I came with a friend here for lunch. I think, by the name of the place, we were both expecting a Mediterranean eatery but it's a small Korean breakfast/lunch spot. You order at a kiosk, take a number, and go sit at a table (indoors or out) where your food will be delivered. We initially attempted to order at the counter but were ignored so we did the kiosk routine. I went with a prosciutto panini and a hot vanilla latte. The latte was average but good. The same could be said of the panini which, aside from the prosciutto, included arugula, garlic aioli, tomato, and mozzarella (it usually comes with roasted bell pepper but I asked to leave that ingredient off). The sandwich came with a pedestrian house salad; some greens with four grape tomatoes and a balsamic dressing. There is a huge free parking structure across the street which makes coming here easy. Ordered a breakfast burrito without bacon, option available for omitting any ingredients but nothing about replacing or adding. The side avocado came on a plate on a thin cut bed of lettuce before my first AND second burrito came out. Sitting there.. just sad, oxidizing as my stomach drools. The first burrito came out with tons of 'bacon' to which my friend Tim tried some before the lady saw me picking them out and realized a mistake had been made and a new burrito was being made. Tim said the bacon were bland and amazingly saltless, cut thick like how I grew up knowing them to be. Not thin, wavy and crispy like Americano-burgeriano like. Second burrito was good, piping hot and filled with eggs. Burrito blanket was the large 12-14" kind but it's filled without further grilling. Side potatoes were fine. Drip coffee was also fine. I have visited Olive Seed Cafe a handful of times! They have a wide variety within their menu. There's Asian inspired items with some American in-between. This particular day I tried their breakfast burrito that comes with a side of potato's and salsa. I was very pleased. Updated my review- the whole place got a makeover and so did it's menu. Some of my favorites like the carbonara or some other Korean items I wanted to try (eg ramen) are no longer on the menu. The classic breakfast also used to come with an option of a crossaint waffle and now they no longer have that - so its either a pancake or sourdough bread. So that's a bummer considering we love the waffles there but not enough to order a whole separate plate of it. The menu is also confusing to look at because the descriptions don't even match the dish names. There are options to order at the counter or the kiosk. After that, you're handed a number to find seating. We found seating at the table in the corner near the bathroom (there were no other tables available) and it smelled really bad so we had to switch tables. Although that was not so great-When the food arrived, it was good and I will say that my tiramisu latte was enjoyable and I really liked it!! The Tteokbokki was amazing. It had a rich broth, perfect seasoning, not too spicy. It's yum! Next time I'd love to add noodles. The Panini was just perfect and the einspanner wasn't too sweet, which actually paired surprisingly well with the Tteokbokki. Both Bingsu desserts were refreshing, not too sweet, and packed with fresh fruit--such a perfect way to end the meal. Whenever I pop into Orange County for a visit I always make it a point to stop here. Creative delicious dishes that rarely disappoint. Their chicken wings are fried to perfection! (I'd recommend the garlic soy wings). My go to here is either the carbonara (the Kim chi one is fabulous) or the salmon Benedict. A couple times the Benedict has come out where the English muffin isn't toasted which is a tad odd though. They also switched their fries to the crinkle cut fries from the thin fries which was kind of a bummer. Coffee drinks are always spot on, I tend to always get their match latte. The Frutti di mare spaghetti had a great amount of garlic, but very tomato focused. It's something that reminded me of store-bought Ragu or Prego sauce, without any added spices. The ribeye kimchi fried rice was filled with savory kimchi juice or gochujang sauce, I brought it back home to add a bit of white rice to dilute the sogginess of the rice and flavor. The croissant waffle with Nutella was surprisingly brought out first as a dessert, but it was delicious fresh and fluffy. Best dish of the meal. I also ordered the mint mojito latte which was very good. I would say it has a better mint flavor than Phil's coffee! There's a lot of food options to choose here, from breakfast to Asian fusion Korean dishes, to dessert. Bring our old Olive Seed back!! Our family has been loyal customers for years, coming almost every week. But after yesterday's visit, we found they changed owner and we honestly don't know if we'll return. They removed spaghetti and pasta -- the only reason my kids begged to come here. Taking off your most popular items without any explanation is baffling. The chicken and waffle dish was a joke. The waffle was soggy with a weird aftertaste. Only the chicken was barely acceptable. The fried kimchi rice? The portion is shockingly small now -- less than half of what it used to be. It used to serve two; now it's barely enough for one. This kind of downsizing feels insulting. They even removed the kitchen cover, so the entire restaurant is filled with a heavy, unpleasant food smell. It's hard to enjoy any meal like that. Worst of all, the warm, welcoming family atmosphere is completely gone. No greeting, no smile, no recognition. The young man at the front looked cold and uninterested. Meanwhile, a lady was busy taking pictures of dishes for social media -- maybe that's where their effort is going now, instead of into the food or customers. If management thinks cutting portions, removing favorites, lowering quality, and ignoring loyal customers is a good strategy, then good luck. They'll need every bit of social media hype they can get -- because this is how you drive away the customers who supported you for years. read more

It's too bad since there was a management response on that review claiming a guarantee to do better but clearly nothing had changed in the past few months, from my perspective at least (maybe just an off day?). Can't really comment on the service since they have two big self service kiosks at the front to place an order which means there was basically no interaction with staff. No problem there if that's what you're looking for. The food was pretty lackluster though. I ordered the American Breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, and tater tots. Couldn't help but be disappointed when it came out since it looked nothing like the picture when ordering. Honestly looked like something you slap together at a cheap hotel buffet (even came with a syrup packet). The eggs seemed pre-made, pancakes slightly rubbery, sausage was thin and bland. Felt really bad for paying $16 for something I could have made a lot better at home without even trying. If it were $5 I would still have to be pretty desperate to order it. This review is only for the American Breakfast as I did not try anything else. It's possible they have some good dishes. I definitely don't recommend the American Breakfast though. Walked right up to the counter after glossing over the lengthy menu and ordered their signature bulgogi burrito. The burrito was served with a small side salad and my oh my, was the burrito one of the best I've had.
