You have to root for Urban Bar-B-Que, even though they have a long way to go. Open x 2 weeks. Bar-B-Que sandwiches, tacos, cornbread and extras. Sandwiches were about 12 dollars and was pork on a bun. Nothing special. Not good, not bad. No cole slaw, no corn, no pickle, no beans, no hush puppies , no bread. Lots of sauces, although no one was sure which sauces belonged where-and newby restaurant workers stressed about the right sauce in the right spot. Out of nachos (yes, I skipped the last nachoholics anonymous mtg, and thought I would slip in and out of this place, get myself nacho'ed up, and back to work). Multiple waitstaff working to bring people in and make them happy. "Can I get in and out in 45 minutes" (flight), no problem I was told. And time wasn't a factor. Fries were good. The 4 bar b que sauces varied from excellent to Carolina water and hot sauce that was clear and hot without flavor. The attitude of the people came through. They wanted to please. They cared. And they worked hard. Oh. And they advertise the biggest bourbon selection at BWI. Nothing you haven't heard of, nothing unique, but lots of bourbon choices. I kept my order simple as I usual do when traveling I chose pulled pork tacos Texas style of course!! it was yummy w coleslaw. Pretty disappointed. I travel a lot and from Baltimore which is home base for me. Order a salad and then most of the lettuce was bad to eat. It was iceberg lettuce. Got the super food salad with chicken. I've informed the bartender and the bartender apologized for it and asked if I wanted anything Else. Only was I picked through and just ate the chicken. Now I've been to the original location in Rockville and Lithiucum however this place is just an airport version. With that said, I was excited when they open inside bwi airport however huge let down. Upon waiting for my now 3 hours delayed flight, I happened to remember Urban BBQ from a previous layover and decided to stop in for a bite. It's a usual set up for the airport sports bar restaurant, but you have two options. If you're on the go, you order up front from the to go section, if you want to sit down for a bit they have a bar area. The only thing that was a bit off was how much staff they had at their bar area. One girl was maintaining the bar and the small restaurant. In total it appeared to be about 15 people. I noticed someone popped up an hour later, so with that, I had to wait around just a little bit to order. No biggie. I ordered the Dragon Honey Bone-in Wings with a side of greens. The flavor profile and the stickiness was there for the wings, though I was expecting a little bit. Where was the heat? Also, I wasn't really hoping the sides to be as big as they were and instead of ordering 6, my big girl eyes gotten 12. Never the less, I didn't finish them. Should'a kept walking.. First, let me say that the food is tasty, this is my second visit, on a previous visit I tried their breakfast platter and it was ok. This time after a 5 hour flight, to call out myself, I was a bit jet lagged, ears still popping but the first thing I noticed was the scowl on the cashier's face, she was having trouble with the register, so much so that the customer she was waiting on just turned and left, the woman in front of me ordered a Diet Coke, she paid for it then she had to ask the cashier to get the drink for her because she was still fussing with the register. So now I come up to order, when I looked at the display it said $23 and I noticed that she charged me for a bowl of soup, I said, I'm sorry, I ordered a cup, she said "we only have one size" ? I said well you clearly are advertising two sizes on your menu ( Right over her head) and you should have told me that you only have one size instead of just charging me for it. After that, it was all down hill, I wanted to dine in, she brought it to me in a to go bag, I asked for a sweet tea, nope! I made eye contact with her to say hey, it'll get better, she didn't even acknowledge me.. no worries, I won't be going back there at all. I thought that I would give this place a try because of the "urban" in the title and the menu. You would expect that a place with Collard Greens and Potato Salad on the menu would be good. However, this was not the case. The potatoes in the potato salad were not fully cooked, it was blend, and watery. I wanted a Stella beer and they were out of that. I heard the waitress say that they were out of a lot of stuff and she was glad that they were closing early. The wings were good and the service was okay. Truthfully they need to perfect their menu and get better recipes, and stock the resturant better. read more

The brisket was very dry, when it eventually came out, and my travel friend and l both felt like we were an inconvenience to the server when asking for condiments. I visited the URBAN BAR-B-QUE COMPANY on 7/7/19, and here is my opinion. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly and the menu was easy to navigate. What struck me as being odd was, there was no smell of barbecue in the air (like great barbecue places I have visited in the past). The prices are a bit on the high side, but it is an airport. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and fries, diet coke. The meat was well cooked, and my coke was cold. The flavors just aren't great. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would judge my sandwich a 5.5. In summary this visit gets a 3 star. The food is Ok, but I wouldn't rush back at these prices. read more

This is a pretty typical airport food experience. The service was fast which is important. Servers were friendly. I think some menu options make more economic sense than others -- that is, why spend $10 on a sandwich with no sides when you can spend $3 more and get two sides and a bread option with your choice of meat (more for ribs of course)? Excellent service. I had the ribs, greens, beans and cornbread. No complaints. The cornbread was moist, the greens well flavored and ribs with sauces.. simply delicious. Sharon was my server l. Airport food, low expectations. Airport service, lower expectations. This place, however, defied the airport odds. The manager, who clearly knows how to work, recommended the brisket tacos, each one with a different sauce, and the power coleslaw. Both were fantastic. She was friendly, attentive and helpful during my 45 minute stay. Of note, between delivering great food and providing exceptional service, she found time to defuse a grumpy, loud and demanding customer. What a welcome airport change! read more

Pulled pork sandwich was super disappointing, had no bbq sauce. Pint size of fries was expensive and barely large enough to be a personal size. Fries were seasoned well although they were pretty much cold after the 5 minute walk to my gate which was disappointing. The Cole slaw could be better but not terrible. The fries were crispy and well seasoned and none of that greasy aftertaste that you often get with restaurants in terminals. The Mac and cheese was smooth and rich.great service! Sat down and it took over 5 minutes to get served even though there were at least 6 employees dancing and just talking. I ordered the pulled chicken and fries. The pulled chicken was decent but fries were cold. Send them back, by the time the fries got back I had already finished so had them take off order. This place is horrible! Service was slow. Food took forever to come out. Kitchen was disorganized and mixing up orders. My salad came with bacon when I asked for no bacon. Croutons were under toasted soggy cornbread. They ran out of ranch dressing. The lemonade tasted like a powder mix. I wasn't expecting much from my quick pre-flight lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised by UBQ. I had a pulled pork plate with beans and superfood slaw. I have been here three times so far and have left satisfied each visit. I can only speak about their rib platter since that's the only bbq item I've had from here. Flavor wise, they are pretty solid; slightly smoky, subtlety seasoned, then covered with their own bbq sauce. Wasn't the biggest fan of their default bbq sauce, but they do have 6 different sauces to choose from at the table which makes up for it. Texture wise, they are very good. They are not tough where you have the gnaw the meat off and nor cooked down to a pile off mush. I'd say they are probably one step before fall off the bone. One thing that I believe they do is flash fly the ribs before serving to you. Now I'm not sure how purists feel about this technique, but I really enjoyed it since it gave the ribs a crispier outer bark and a nice flavor. All in all I would recommend giving the ribs a try. Additionally, their sides are a good size portion that didn't leave me feeling like I needed more. Their coleslaw and their Mac and cheese are par for the course and the corn bread was equally average. Surprisingly their prices are actually not too inflated being that they're in an airport. If you have a hankering for bbq while in BWI, this place should hit the spot read more
