It may seem like a bar first and a BBQ spot second because of the limited seating but let me tell you, the food here is not to be underestimated! Not only is the 2 meat combo a whopping serving (including 2 sides, fantastic cornbread, and pickles) but it's a great deal... and that brisket!! Nice selection of sauces at the table too. I had the Happy Hour house old fashioned as well and loved it. One thing to note is that you order up at the counter, as opposed to ordering with a server. But once that's done, the food comes out pretty quickly. You can also leave your tab open as you add on additional drinks while you dine. Everybody in our group enjoyed their orders. I'd definitely return just for the combo plate (and try different sides next time).

Stopped in for dinner Friday night with my daughter. [[HIGHLIGHT]]For as popular as I read they are and for supposedly having some of the best BBQ in the area they were completely dead[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Walked in and your in the bar area with about only 3 tables. Never being here before and not from the area we didn't know there was seating upstairs. You'd think since I had a kid with me we would have been told this. We split a two meat plate of ribs and brisket, with extra Mac & cheese. The meat comes with no sauce and they have sauce at the tables for you to add which is the best way to go. The ribs were fall off the bone and very good. The brisket on the other hand was a little on the dryer side and I needed a lot of the sauce to eat it. Speaking of the sauce the smoke sauce was delicious. The Mac & cheese is way over peppered, very cheesy and tasted good but too much pepper. The meal also came with pickles which were ok and the driest cornbread I've ever eaten. Definitely needed butter to spread on it. All and all it was just ok for us. We traveled from PA to try this place and it's just not for us.

Would definitely go again! I have ordered delivery before but in-person was better. Started out with HH (until 7p) on a Friday night and enjoyed some spiced mules at the bar. There are some HH food options too. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was date night for me, so we ordered some plates and settled in upstairs which was quieter, chill, rustic and had cool pics of dogs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is delivered to your table. Food was yummy!!! I loved the dry rub ribs and brisket. All the sides were great too, corn bread and pickles were complimentary too. Check em out!!!

Visited this place for a party on Friday night. They had a buffet with many selections of food to choose from but my favorite was the brisket. It was so tender and flavorful. The drinks were good and pretty strong as well. The service was friendly.

Great little spot in Hampden a few blocks from the Avenue and on the way to the light rail if you're planning on going to a game downtown. I'm a pescatarian so I haven't tried their BBQ meats (the friends I've brought have raved about their brisket) but they do have a vegan jackfruit sandwich that's solid and I love their Mac and cheese. I normally go to sit at the bar and enjoy their cocktails and whiskey selection which is one of the best near me. They have a great selection of some of those hard to acquire bourbons and quite a few exclusive barrel picks. The last time I was in, my buddy and I finally tried their Buffalo Trace and Rittenhouse picks on their own (as opposed to my standard Manhattan) and I ended up taking a bottle of their Rittenhouse home.

Was looking for a place near me to host some buds for a bachelor party when I came across Blue Pit in Hampden. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a great spot with plenty of space for us in their upstairs area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Awesome BBQ and whiskey selection. The staff was incredibly accommodating. If you are looking for a party space near you its definitely a place to check out.

We had a party here for approximately 30 people and the experience was positive and enjoyable. The owner was very prompt with her replies to my inquiries and very easy to work with. We were able to enjoy the second floor as the event was on a Thursday afternoon and each one of us would just buy our food individually without any sort of cover charge or extra charge for the use of space. It made for a very stress free and chill time. Food wise, I was able to try only 2 items, the Big Dawg and the brisket and I can say I thought they were good! Photos of the place are included in this review as it was the main reason we chose the place. Parking can be very tricky but it's to be expected as it is near the city. The staff who helped us were all so friendly and helpful! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Check out their newly renovated patio area, too[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This review is strictly for the bar and drinks..... Parking is madness so be sure to allow time to find street parking. Walk or Uber here. Ample seating in the bar area. I ordered two drinks . Those slushy drinks are strong if you like a bang for your buck it was absolutely delicious. Prices are good. Bartenders were attentive and very friendly.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Low quality picture for a high quality restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Got this for the first time because the restaurant was supporting the recent Keswick fires in Hampden in Baltimore. Being able to support this restaurant in their support efforts makes the food even more incredible and definitely a place worth checking out in the future!

I'm a girl who loves her BBQ and Blue Pit always comes through when I'm looking for somewhere great yet chill to eat! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff and environment is always so welcoming, helpful and attentive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I recently discovered their happy hour and I highly recommend it. They have specials on their sliders, beers and some signature cocktails. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Now that the weather is warming up I also enjoy sitting out on their back patio which offers communal style dining.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I love this style dining because it allows you to hopefully meet someone new. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If communal style isn't for you they have great spaces indoors as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Blue Pitt is child and pet friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I love how much they give back to the community with their support of BARCS. I love sharing a platter and some sides. My personal favs are the brisket, chicken, pulled anything lol , beans, and potato salad! I love getting their signature blood orange mule as well! I highly recommend if you are looking for a great weekend lunch spot, place to meet friends or just because!

It's been a while since I've visited Blue Pit but I had a gift card and an empty fridge so the stars aligned for another visit. Since I now eat gluten free, my normal option of the pulled chicken sandwich wasn't going to cut it - they don't have GF rolls. I did appreciate that GF options were clearly marked on the menu though. I got the one meat platter with chicken thighs, potato salad, and Chesapeake pickleback slaw and extra pickles instead of cornbread. It came out to $20, pretty pricey for one person if you ask me. I placed the order by phone and the staff member was really friendly and double checked that all the sauces were gluten free (thank youuuu). The bag was HEAVY when I picked it up, a good sign. Turns out $20 was a reasonable price for the heaping serving size I received. Four large pieces of chicken and fair portions of the sides. The chicken was good but not as flavorful as the pulled chicken I'm used to getting on the sandwiches. I had plenty of sauce to make up for whatever was lacking in flavor though. I also had plenty of leftovers! Now I want to come back for an Old Fashioned. Cheers!

Is their bbq meat gluten free?

Hi Samantha! Most of our meats are gluten free. Our gluten free meats are brisket, pulled pork, chicken, ribs and our jackfruit, which is our vegan barbecue. Our gluten free sides are baked beans, collard greens, potato salad, red chili mayo slaw…

This time we were also notably impressed by the fry's too; nice and crispy and didn't get soggy with a hefty amount of malt vinegar. The servings are big and a regular to a large is usually only a $1 difference... get the large! They were having a special on jerk chicken and my husband got a whole chicken which we took to go and snacked on the rest of the weekend; it was amazing! The lobby and dining space were also nice and clean, fully stocked, and had lots of seating. I love the indoor picnic tables and the condiment choices (I'm a sauce boss!). We then had our flight delayed... by a whole day! And after our general annoyance we realized we would get to squeeze in one more trip to Chaps, blessing in disguise. See you guys again sooner than later, we'll be thinking about you till then!

I travel to Baltimore often for work, and when two completely separate people tell me I need to eat…read moresomewhere, eventually I'm going to listen. In the case of Chaps Pit Beef, I've now listened twice. First, the setting deserves its own star. There's something wonderfully Baltimore about pulling into a place famous across the country for pit beef, sharing the immediate surroundings with a strip club, and knowing you can shop for used tires across the street when you're finished. Add the walls of awards, television appearances, photos and decades of accumulated lore inside and the whole thing feels less like stopping for lunch and more like making a small pilgrimage. And that's part of why I'm struggling with Chaps. I've tried several of the sandwiches across my two visits. I've piled on the raw onions, pickles and sauces. I've ordered too much--which feels both heroic and completely appropriate here--and walked away convinced that Chaps is very good. But I haven't found my five-star Chaps order yet. The pit beef itself is clearly the reason for the pilgrimage, and the condiment station is part of the experience. Beef, raw onion and that horseradish-heavy Tiger Sauce is a combination I could happily keep attacking. But then you look around at the menu and realize you've barely scratched the surface: beef, sausage, corned beef, turkey, enormous combinations of all of the above, gravy fries, homemade sides and sandwiches carrying names and reputations of their own. It's almost overwhelming. That's ultimately why I'm leaving Chaps at four stars--for now. There's a five-star experience hiding here. I can feel it. I'm just not convinced I've ordered it yet. Next visit I'm stripping this thing back before building it up again: pit beef medium-rare, raw onion and Tiger Sauce as the control. Then I'm going in the opposite direction with one of the ridiculous combinations--probably Guy's DDD--and finally giving the gravy fries their proper opportunity. If that unlocks what generations of Baltimoreans and seemingly every food television personality already know, I'll happily come back here and move this to five stars. If after three visits I'm still admiring the institution more than craving the food, maybe it moves the other direction. For now: Chaps is absolutely worth the stop. The food is good, the history is real, and the atmosphere couldn't be manufactured if someone tried. I just haven't cracked the code yet. Four stars, with one more trip pending.

The meat seemed high quality and our server stayed on top of switching out the grill and helping us with menu suggestions. My main reason for four stars and not five is I think they could do better with their gluten free friendly options. One side of the menu was clearly marked for gluten free options while the other side wasn't, making it a hassle to flip back and forth and figure out what I could eat. Despite having quite a few gluten free options, they didn't have any gluten free soy sauce (or tamari). This would've really taken the meal to the next level as the gluten free meats come without any marination and are very very plain on their own. We also ordered large combo for 5-6 people which had a good amount of meats and sides but was supposed to come with six servings of rice. We never received the rice but weren't provided a reason or a discount. I'd return in the future but probably smuggle in my own personal bottle of tamari so I could enjoy the flavors of the meat more. Overall, the price at $215 for six of us (plus drinks) was pretty good, regardless of these small hiccups.
