I stopped in on a rainy night to grab some dinner. I decided to sit in the dining room as the bar was pretty full and quite noisy. The man who waited on me was super friendly and checked in often to see how I was doing. Based on his recommendation, I decided to try one of their cheesesteaks, with sautéed mushrooms and onions, accompanied by sweet potato fries. The sandwich was piping hot when it was served. I'm not sure if I burned my tastebuds on the first few bites, but I found the sandwich to have very little taste. The nice man came back and pointed out the all of hot sauces, so I opted for a chipotle flavored one, which helped boost the flavor of the sandwich. The sweet potato fries were really tasty, but some were a little soggy. This place is definitely a local favorite in the Canton area and I can see why, with such friendly and attentive service. read more

It was my first time coming here and I already know I'll be a regular! It's a classic cool dive bar with amazing food and incredibly friendly staff. Everything we had last night was so amazing. I highly recommend the fried green tomatoes, they are a huge portion and the most unique twist on crab + fried green tomatoes I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. I've heard Silk's has some legendary cheesesteaks, and after last night, I know why! The classic Silk's cheesesteak was stuffed, piping hot, with plenty of cheese, pepper, and onion. I split with my fiancée and I'm coming back just so I can have a cheesesteak all to myself. We also shared the mushroom Swiss burger, which was a classic burger that was really tasty, but nothing to write home about. The fries, however, are seriously some of the best fries I've had in Baltimore. 4 of us met up on a Saturday around 5pm for dinner and WOW. The bartender doubles as the waiter, so that service was a tad slow, but he did a good job checking in on us. He was happy to help us watch the football game we wanted. The menu is straight forward and accessed via QR code. In total at the table, we ordered the Memphis Mac n Cheese, Shrimp and Grits, and 2 burgers. Everyone devoured their entire meals - talk about delicious. I had the mac n cheese and it was the perfect amount of creamy. There was a good amount of the BBQ pork which was nice. The shrimp and grits were delish too with the sausage mixed in. I don't normally like grits but the sauce and cheese made it delectable. They have a good amount of beers on tap and a full bar. I would happily come here again. Note that this is in a typical corner store type place for the city, so parking is a premium, but we had no issues parking nearly in front of the restaurant at the hour. read more

I arrived 45 minutes after I ordered based on the time estimate. My bf went in to pickup our order and no one was at the bar/counter. He waited for a few minutes and came to the car to call. I called and " the guy in the kitchen" was rude. I gave him my name and told him that I was there to pickup my order. He responded, well can you come in. I said, my bf is already in their waiting. He said, well I'm In the kitchen trying to prepare food. He came out and dropped our bag on the counter and walked away! Silks staffing issues isn't the customers problem. Ijs.... I am disappointed to report that after multiple visits over the last year, silks seems to be going a bit downhill. The bartender is often so hungover that it negatively affects the service, or the place is too crowded with only one bartender, or the food is gross. The fries are not good anymore. No seasoning and weren't fresh. I got a Cesar salad so drenched in dressing that I couldn't eat it. It's just an alright corner bar now. Went to Silks on a busy NCAA tourney weekend and had a great experience. Very casual sports pub - was greeted by the very friendly bartender who showed us to the dining area and changed the TV stations to show the basketball games while taking care of our drink orders - nice draft selection and beer came in a plastic cup which fit the fun/casual theme. Picked a Cajun type pasta dish and got the Mac and cheese on the side since it seemed to be a featured item. The server warned me that I was getting an impressively large amount of food and he was correct as the pasta could have served two easily. It was well prepared, with just enough sauce and lots of tender scallops and well seasoned blackened chicken pieces. The Mac and cheese was worth the extra calories- very cheesy with solid cheese flavor, as opposed to the sometimes watery/flavorless versions elsewhere. My son ordered the cheesesteak and fries and he was very happy with both. The fries were noteworthy as they were cut in a large peeled fashion, resulting in a substantial and crispy bite each time. I recommend Silks for a fun meal with lots of sports on TV! read more

We saw someone else at the bar with the buffalo chicken tenders and had to o those too, so big and delicious! Silks is the only bar I know that has sidewinder fries and they are a Game Changer. Sweet potato fries are really good too, thicker than most other places. The pork mac & cheese should not be missed and the cheesesteak with wiz is so bomb! I'd say that this is more like 3.5 stars. Came here for an early dinner because I landed on Silks through Spotluck (the new app that helps you find restaurants in the area). I'm glad that we ended up coming here! We were able to snag a seat at the bar. They serve the full menu at the bar. My boyfriend and i split an order of chicken fajitas and the paella. They didn't lie when they said that the fajitas came with a generous portion of bell peppers and onions. For my boyfriend, who is a dietician, this is great. The chicken could have used a bit more seasoning and smokiness, but overall, the portion was generous and it was decent. The only down side was that it came with a side of rice, and we really weren't a fan of the rice...It was kind of bland. It would have been nice if they let us choose a side. We would not have opted for the rice. The paella didn't really taste like a traditional/real paella, but whatever it was, it was actually pretty good! They were very generous with the seafood (especially considering the price!) -- there were a few mussels, a decent amount of shrimp, and small pieces of scallops. It was a bit heavy on the tomato sauce for a paella, but that doesn't matter when it's fully of buttery goodness! You could taste the butter with each spoonful. We were early enough for happy hour, so we got each got Pumpking (extra $2 off craft drafts). Love that beer on draft! After that, we each ordered an Old Fashioned. Wow, they make strong drinks here! It's a nice spot for a low-key night! Our bartender, Tim, was affable and efficient with his service. He was quick to ask us if we needed another drink. read more

I was in Baltimore for a quick weekend trip and stopped by Silks for a Clemson watch party. I walked in with my friend and we were confused since there are only a few bar seats when you walk in. We found ourselves upstairs for the watch party, which was a nice hidden spot. The wait staff were all fantastic and prompt with all of the food/drink orders. We shared some BBQ tator tots and they were topped with a giant serving of slow smoked BBQ and crispy bacon. The beer was fairly inexpensive (5 Bud Light bucket for $13). If I lived in Baltimore, I would definitely be a regular at Silks. My friend, who was from Baltimore was thrown off by the Steelers flags in the upstairs area, which I am learning is not very well received in the Charm City. read more

I've been a semi-regular at Silks for quite some time. I really like a few of their Bartenders and they have solid beers and a nice looking interior. I hadn't really tried their food prior to today, and I really couldn't have been more disappointed. I came in and ordered the Crab mac and cheese with a friend, a dish that costs $11.99. What came out of the kitchen was a heaping pile of Kraft with the occasional hint of crab meat. If this was my bar, I would sincerely be embarrassed. I was pretty hungry and ate less than half and my friend maybe took 3 bites. The bartender stopped by asked if we wanted to go boxes and we told him no. At that point, you would think an alarm bell would go off and register "oh did you not like you're food because you've hardly touched it," but no such luck. It is close enough to the Square that you can walk over and the beer list includes a lot of great pours that you cannot find elsewhere near or around the Square. However, the food was very disappointing. I ordered a California Burger that tasted as if it was previously frozen, was overlooked (I wanted medium-rare and it was more like well-done), and it was lacking in items like avavado. The only reason why I stayed was because I used the Spotluck app to get 20% off with a spin of the wheel. And my own personal favorite from time to time, prosecco on tap. Yes, you read that right, bubbly on tap. But the food is just serviceable. It's not bad. But it's nothing to write home about either. Although Silks looks small from the window, they have a back room and an upstairs with its own bar so there's plenty of room for everybody. A nicer place you can't ask for. Went here last night and am very happy that we did. The restaurant/bar has been completely renovated and they did a great job with it. The actual bar itself is over 100 years old and runs the entire length of the restaurant and is the most beautiful feature of the space. Anyway, we both ordered hamburgers. I had the juicy Lucy which has cheese inside the burger. The hamburger was hot and juicy and absolutely delicious. The French fries that accompanied it were in itself very creative. Potatoes cut with some type of spiral slice. They almost look like thick potato chips, but are very seasoned and very delicious. The orange crushes were excellent. And the wine was poured with a very generous hand. We've been everywhere in Bmore and will definitely return to Silk's. Anxious to come back for the brunch. Try it!! You won't be sorry!! read more

Went to Silks tonight for my fiance's birthday. We were hoping to have a fun night of trivia, drinks and food with a group of 6 of us. We were unfortunately greeted very rudely by the bartender who said we wouldn't be able to find seating upstairs and when I politely asked if I could check, he told me I was calling him a liar and continued to be arrogant. We talked to the trivia host explaining it was a birthday and we were running late due to a diabetic incident and we were offered a table with another team who generously made room with us. We even bought them a round of drinks to show our appreciation. Anything's the bartender from downstairs sees us and comes up in a manner like he was trying to show dominance over the situation or trying to instigate an argument/fight. Basically, insinuating that we stole the table from the "nice regulars" and we should have just turned. He said other things making us all feel uncomfortable, unwelcomed. It even got to the point where we asked if he'd like us to leave, and he just responded, "doesn't matter now". He was really slow with our service the rest of the night, didn't make eye contact and wouldn't ask if we needed anything else unless we flagged him down. This isn't our first bad experience with the bartender either, just the first time he's spoken so aggressively towards us. Normally, he just is really slow because he's off in the corner talking to his friends. I will say that the food is really good and that's why we kept coming back despite his behavior, but tonight might have been the last straw. All I wanted to do was give my fiance a great night out with his family for his birthday. read more

I was reluctant to review Silks at all, let alone accurately, for purely selfish reasons. If you live in the neighborhood and are over the age of 27, you know that a quiet spot with delicious food, strong drinks and good service is a bit of a unicorn. Silks has an affordable and tasty menu, daily cocktail specials, friendly staff- and most importantly- there is normally plenty of space for you and your posse even on a Friday or Saturday evening. I recommend their burgers and I have heard rave reviews of their cheese steaks. Added bonus - dog friendly outdoor seating. But seriously, you shouldn't go there.
