I wanted to give this place a try, but unfortunately service seemed a bit too slow and there was no table service. It's probably OK if you're sitting at the bar and just interested in beers. I was jetlagged after a long flight and wanted food. Unfortunately after we found a table and checked the menu and were ready to order there were several others trying to order at the bar and only one bartender currently there. The prices also seemed a tad expensive and there was also a notice at the door that they charge an extra fee for credit cards. Another couple came in, ordered drinks, and upon learned the price of the drink she ordered the woman refused to pay and started berating Ally - who took everything in stride more than I (a 15 year veteran bartender) could've handled. A friend suggested we come to Max's for Sourfest 2026 and we had a blast! I'd never been to Max's before, so was unsure what to expect. The inside is more spacious than imagined. At the door, they checked IDs and explained the whole way to sample the many beers with some notecards for writing down the corresponding number and the size for each beer, and a little space to take some notes on what we thought of each. It seems like they regularly have a lot of beers on tap anyway, but they do have several beer fests throughout the year (Hopfest is in August!) with over 60 offerings of a particular style of brew. And even if you want to come in and want a different style, they still have plenty of those to try as well. We got some food to go with all that beer - the Tater platter was solid bar food with tots, cheese, and bacon. Would get again. Likewise, they run a hot dog special when the Orioles are playing and you can get a hot dog for cheap. Ample seating at the bar and surrounding tables. Bathroom was clean. The bartenders took food and drink orders and different carriers bring food to you. They move quick and are friendly. Prices are fair. read more

This is one of our go to spots and is a can't miss if you're visiting Baltimore. With 100+ beer taps there's something amazing for everyone. (They do also have cocktails, cans, and regular drinks, but I will judge you .) The bartenders here are top notch and know their beers. On Friday night we went here late and I did not have any idea what I wanted, but Jaime served me two amazing beers with just a few suggestions of styles from me. He's 10/10 every time we see him The only thing slightly lacking is their bar food. We don't generally eat here but they do have a nice menu with everything from nachos to pulled pork. I do love their tater bowl! Finally, the space is very large, they have several bars and an upstairs. Plenty of TVs to watch sports, lots of tables and plenty of bar space. Nice folks bit working and customers, very frindly atmosphere. Great beer choices (how could it not be with over 100 taps) Best thing ever if you are a Belgian beer fan, the beer fest in Jan/Feb. They drain out a lot of the taps and add a ton of Belgian beers, some I have only seen in Belgium and so rate in the states I think they must fly over there and sneak them on the plan on the way back lol. If you go though be ready for lines, the fest draws people from all over and better be ready to drink, if you just hang around you will get dirty looks and be asked ot move along so others can partake! read more

Visiting Baltimore and I chose this place for the many recommendations it has on its "pit sandwich". Aside from blue crab, Maryland/Baltimore is also known for this sandwich consisting of roast beef. Max's takes this a step further with an option it also add smoked turkey. Sunday afternoon the Ravens are playing and even with that I was able to get a seat at the bar where I was promptly asked what I'd like to drink. After a quick look I got a local Maryland beer and ordered the pit sandwich with both roast beef and smoked turkey. The beer was fantastic and the sandwich ok, nothing spectacular about it considering it was $16. I do feel like it needs a sauce of some type to really bring it together and for $1 you can add an aoilo and onions to it. It took 30 minutes for me to get the sandwich which I had to ask the bartender to check on it for me. When my food was brought out I touched it to check the temperature, the exposed meat was cold and the meat between the bun was slightly warm as we're the tots, so I feel like it sat for a long time. Love a good pub service! Makes ordering easy. All staff was great, friendly and attentive. Great vibes from the staff to decor which created a comfortable atmosphere but still unique. Beer selection is awesome- a good mix of local and international. We tried The Pit Sandwich- turkey - chef's spicy special - it's a MUST order! The turkey on its own was flavorful and cooked well - the combination with the other flavors of the sandwich were exquisite. However, I hadn't eaten all day and wanted a late lunch. Their menu was minimal. Clearly they're not known for their food. If you're looking for a hang out spot to grab a few drinks and some bar food (fairly small portions and not cheap) then this is a solid choice. It's a solid 3-star tap house for its drink options. Very casual pub. Feels exactly how you'd expect. Ordering could be tricky when it is full, because they do it publicly style & you order from the bartenders. Thankfully it wasn't too too busy when I was there. The pit beef sandwich is insane.. It's seriously so good! Get it with the horseradish aioli and fried onions. Chips are perfectly crisp and on the thick side. Everything is seasoned well. I don't drink, but didn't feel out of place here.. If you like beer this is the place for you. We went in today, I ordered a beer and never again did the staff return to take our order. We eventually flagged the staff so that we could pay for the beer I ordered. They never bothered to return and ask my wife if she wanted something, never gave us a menu, just completely ignored us as if we weren't there. If your looking for a true beer experience in Baltimore, Max's Taphouse is your place. The tap and bottle list are extensive and they are one of the few places post-pandemic that has hardcore beer events/tap takeovers. Parking wasn't the easiest to find, but I ended up in a nearby parking garage. The inside is a little dark, but roomy with lots of seating options. There were plenty of TV's spread out and the O's were playing an afternoon game. I didn't have too much trouble sorting through their tap list since most of the list had sour ale's from a recent event. The Black Flag Flagship IPA from nearby Columbia, MD was a nice simple IPA, but the winner was the New Trail - Barrel Aged Moonlit (aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels). I could go on and on with my description and score, but that was one hell of a beer! My wife stuck to Delirium Tremens since they had it on tap. You don't see on tap very often and it's such a delicious Belgian Ale. Their bottle list is long, organized and also extensive. It includes quite a few rarities and aged beers. Food wise I had the Beer Chili which was decent. Just simple chili, nothing special. The Wings were Max's BBQ flavored and decent. They were meaty and lightly fried, the menu says they are slow-smoked, but I didn't detect much. My son had the Pit turkey and really liked it. I had some and definitely found the smoke flavor I was looking for. My wife ordered the Classic Burger and had no complaints. I noticed a tour going down and around the building and asked the manager if we were allowed to take a look around. He was more than happy to say yes and took us himself. The tap system in the basement is organized, and quite a set up. I've been in some of the most well known beer bars in Philly and I can say for certain this would rank right up there with the best. I've read about Max's as one of the better beer bars in the world and it did not disappoint. 108 beers on draft, 4 hand pumps and over 1000 bottles and cans = must visit. A great amount of beer on hand for sure from the draft selection to the bottles and cans offered, the food was also excellent although limited. I had the Backyard burger and it was very tasty and my buddy had the fish sandwich which he is also thought was done well. Be aware though, there is no table service at least it wasn't when we were there earlier today. So, you have to order at the bar which didn't turn out too bad as we were able to get some seats there which got rid of us having to do any back and forth. Service was good for the most part, although at times slower than preferred as they seemed to not really have the bar staffed as best as they could have. And finally, the location has a nice setup about it although it does get loud, but that kind of should be expected. Parking can be a little difficult at times so make sure you leave ample time to find a spot. read more

A staple in the heart of Fells Point and the most decent spots bar in the area. I don't go as much as I used to since I'm not 20 and really don't drink that much craft beer anymore. But they have an amazing selection of beers and the largest Belgian beers I've seen in Maryland. With the lack of sports bars in Fells Point, Max's is a decent place to watch college football. It is good for large groups and the food options aren't terrible. It's a two story situation with a backroom and bar that opens to serve outside. The bar tenders are fast and friendly. Definitely bro-vibes but good for events especially during fells fest. They also host trivia and random comedy nights upstairs. read more

Usually when you go to a beer place there is either no wine, barely drinkable swill, or so-so wine that is super overpriced, but they offered me a can of sparkling rose that was pretty damn good! It was $12 and was the equivalent to two glasses of wine. We went to Max's twice on our short trip to Baltimore; the first time just for a drink on the day we arrived, and for lunch the next day after our visit to the Baltimore Museum of Industry. For lunch, my husband had beer (of course), I had more canned wine (OF COURSE), and we shared nachos, with chicken. The cheese on the nachos was a melted queso kind of cheese, but they were tasty, and there were plenty of toppings. Situated in the trendy neighborhood of Fells Point, Max's serves up some of the best bar food and craft beer in the Mid Atlantic region. Atmosphere is spot on cool with games, high tables and plenty of bar counter seating as well. We ordered a few burgers at the bar. No table service, so if you want more catsup or mayo, your out of luck. A few mins later, the chef from the back brings out two excellent burgers and fries. Steaming hot on a soft potato bun. No tables set up outside, had to ask for them to set one up as we had dogs with us. We came her because it was supposed to be so dogs friendly but they didn't even have a dog water dish. No table service; order inside and they bring it out. They told us to use the QR code on the table and there wasn't one. Very limited food menu. Ordered their smoked beef and turkey sandwiches, expecting carved, smoked meat. It was tasted like it had liquid smoke sprayed on it. Hamburger s was good, but expensive.
