Awesome local spot! Our bartender, Jesse, was very friendly and answered any questions we had about the food and beer menu. There is a great selection of beers, both drafts and cans. We ordered a cheesesteak to share. We were able to see the chef working hard to make all of the orders for others and us which was cool. The cheesesteak isn't my favorite I've had, but still pretty tasty and very large. Good size for sharing. Their burgers and wings looked good and I enjoyed their fries as well. Overall, this is a really cool neighborhood spot and I'll definitely return! read more

My partner and I have lived in the city for about a year and a half and hadn't been here yet, so we finally went over to check it out! We had a good experience overall. It's definitely on the divey side, but in a fun, laid-back way. Our server was great and even let us sample a few beers before ordering. I tried a pumpkin ale -- which I actually loved! It surprised me because I don't usually drink beer (hate is a strong word, but I normally don't like it). This one was sweeter and enjoyable. We got the garlic rosemary fries (the aioli was perfect), plus the blackened chicken tenders and honey Old Bay wings. Definitely not a place that'll leave you hungry -- portions are generous! We had a great time and enjoyed all our food. The only reason I left off a star was because the bathroom freaked me out a little ..but I'd still visit again. Casual setting for sure -- we saw lots of friend groups hanging out that seem like regulars. Seems like a great neighborhood spot with a solid community. read more

Mahaffey's is a chill watering hole in Canton that offers great drink specials. I love sitting at the bar with friends and grabbing some beers. It's not too packed or overcrowded so I love not having to fight my way up to the bar to grab a drink! The bartenders are efficient and helpful. read more

I've been going to Mahaffey's since 2010, at least. It's small but cozy in this establishment with a huge bar on one wall, high top tables opposite, and some regular tables and chairs in the back. What stands out to me about Mahaffey's is their solid craft beer options. It's been like this since I've been a patron, which is great. I love the consistency. The food here is good, despite there not being much space for a kitchen and cooking. Staff has always been attentive and friendly. Nothing not to like here (except Mahaffey's is in Canton and I live in Pigtown and thus don't visit as often as I'd like). read more

Just tried this place for the first time and it was pretty good! I got the jerk chicken strips which came with fries and a sauce. The chicken was decently flavorful but a little bit dry and the fries were a bit soggy. The sauce was also a bit spicy which i wasn't expecting but i actually liked it. But my friend got a chicken sandwich and he said he liked it! And overall the service was super nice! read more

This is an awesome neighborhood bar. I stop in occasionally but am no means a regular, but every time I go in they treat me like one. The staff is professional and welcoming and the food is really good. I usually go for the wings and will say they are some of the best in the city. I also want to give a side shout out to our bartender Dennis who ran drinks and made recommendations. We were with our 6 month old so it was a little tough to order from the bar so he stopped out frequently. When we were getting ready to sign out he laid a children's book on our table and told us how his child loved it. Little things like this make me love our local Baltimore neighborhood bars. Smallish but awesome pub for locals and beer appreciators alike. There is always a fresh assortment of craft brews available to try but they also stock some classic faves like Natty Boh should you not be feeling all that adventurous. The bartenders are very friendly and provide guidance in selection should you need it. The tasty food is a bonus (not many foods soak up those ABVs quite like a soft pretzel topped with crab dip). Whether it be for one, quick cold brewsky or a leisurely six, you'll enjoy stopping in to Mahaffey's (the plaques of names that line the walls speak volumes about the joy experienced by those who frequent this pub. My husband is a beer club member who has been dedicated to this place for as long as I've known him, but as someone coming to Baltimore from out of town, it's definitely special and not like every other place. Their BaltoBuffalo and Zesty Garlic wings, along with rosemary fries are better than you may anticipate and their beer list is constantly changing. Came here to get takeout during COVID restaurant closures. We got a couple orders of wings (they're currently offering 50 cent wings with a bottle of beer purchase) with the BaltoBuffalo (old bay and buffalo) and Chili Teriyaki sauces. The baltobuffalo is exactly what you'd expect, salty but damn good. I really liked their chili teriyaki, but I wish it had more of the sauce/glaze they put on it. The wings were a bit dry, but I also did have to transport them so I'll probably chalk that up to them being takeout. We also had some fried pickle chips, and they were pretty good. They came with a dipping sauce that wasn't bad but definitely was a bit out of the ordinary from my experiences. Their burgers are also pretty good, as we got one of those as well. They do have a good beer selection and the owner is a really friendly and welcoming person. I hope to be able to sit in one day once this is all over, but in the meantime I can keep on ordering to go. read more

I went here on Taco Tuesday and it was pretty good. You can't go wrong with $2 tacos (beef or chicken). The only complaint I would have is that the lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos, etc. run out pretty quickly (they have a taco bar) and is slow to refill. Their rosemary garlic fries are great as well, as are their variety of hot wings. Mahaffey's is a great place to chill with friends and enjoy their many happy hour specials. They deserve credit for being the first guy through the wall. It good to see its hard to get a seat some nights now. For the uninitiated Mahaffeys has the old-timey typical Baltimore bar set-up. Narrow bar area with grill fryolater behind bar. There's a seating area in the back and there is a second floor that is family oriented stuff for kids to play with and such. Which is cool cause you should try to teach your kids that you should be able to drink a beer in public and not act like a douche-bag. Service is really good and what you should expect from a bar that has regulars and people who pay their rent via tips. The food is good bar food. No Flaccid skin chicken wings here. The garlic fries are spot on as well. This bar is far enough to from Canton square to minimize the amount of Friday and Saturday night college binge drinker types. Otherwise the crowd is typical of Canton: Frank Sobotka types, the guy from legg mason who got transferred to Baltimore who is unsuccessfully trying to find reasons not to like it, people in "beer clubs", a Labrador Retriever named "jake" wearing a scarf as a collar and me judging everyone. Came here for wing wednesday with a friend and had a great time! As other reviewers have mentioned, the bar does have a very "locals" feel, and the place quickly fills up after 5pm. We each got the 3 for $6 craft beer deal, and it simply can't be beat. There are plenty of great options, both local and not, and at a fantastic price! For food, we got wings and fries. The wings were good, although I've had better elsewhere. Cant lie though, the 50 cent deal made them just a biiiiit tastier! Service is great too. One of my 10oz beers was served to me flat and warm, but our server quickly replaced it once I told him about it and checked on us throughout our meal. Something else we noticed was that nothing on the menu was over $10 --I kid you not! So this seems like the perfect place for when you want good drinks and good pub food without breaking the bank. Mahaffey's Pub is a great little bar. I came here for a surprise birthday party. The owner, Alice, gets to know her customers and really adds a personal touch! The beer selection is awesome; not just offering your standard domestic and imports but crafts too. One of my biggest pet peeves is when bars offer craft beers but then don't include a description as to the style, flavors, and aromas. Luckily, Mahaffey's had descriptions for me so I knew what I wanted to try. I also got an order of their garlic fries and they were DELICIOUS! The upstairs was a great spot to have a private party for 40 or less. And the best part was that there are bathrooms upstairs so you don't have to go up and down the stairs all night! Highly recommend checking this bar out. read more

Go here if you want to try a bunch of different beers for a cheap price. Their 3 for 5$ beers during happy hour with a great selection (probably well over 50+ beers that change every week or so) is awesome. Other than that..it's a decent environment with a couple flat screens, nice and cozy place to chill with friends, pretty standard/decent bar food. The crowd is usually around their late 20s, mid 30s. Happy hour prices for food is but very standard.. cheap 1$/2$ sliders(depending on the meat) slider bun, meat, cheese, pickle. I'd expect at least some chopped lettuce/onions/tomato or something ...but I guess when you're a little buzzed you just need something to soak up that alc But like I said, go here to try a bunch of beers and chill with friends. The area is nice, street parking is good, the people are nice. read more

I came here after a walk out of the way from Max's with a group. I was glad to arrive and order and they had a good special 3 12oz'ers for 5 bucks except certain beers bolded on the menu. The place was crowded in the bar area so I sat in the back out of the way. I ordered food after a couple other people in the group did and the server was friendly about it. The food came quickly ... maybe too quickly. The first bite out of the southwest burger all the juice poured out onto the plate. I ordered mine medium well since you can't be sure the first time in a new place. The outside was cooked crispy and black and it was so hot I burnt my tongue, but inside was pink and seemed way underdone but warm. The beer selection is good and the people are good which is why I gave 3 out of 5, but the food was somewhat dissapointing for the reasons I mentioned above. I would return for a pint or two based on the very decent happy hour special. I really wanted to give them a '4' but couldn't justify it in my mind really. read more

Round 2 - I just came to mahaffeys for the second time. They now have tables outside which are wooden squares that are level with the ground and hold things. This is easier than using my modified harmonica holder with a sandwich in it that I stole from that idiot that thought the piano man by Billy Joel was called the Harmonica man. What an idiot. Anyways if you like food and occasionally listening to inda godda da vida on repeat because someone likes to play silly pranks with juke box, mahaffeys is for you. I've been to a lot bars but this one raised the "bar" to a whole new level. They serve food and get this... booze too! They always play Heroes by David Bowie when you ask them and point towards the juke box, but yea! If you like Easter bunnies but are afraid a man is inside the costume, you're in luck! I'm not sure that you come to Mahaffey's for the food. It is something else entirely. My boyfriend and his friends are regulars, and I have gotten to know Mahaffeys as more an institution for those who enjoy good beers in low-key environments. There is absolutely no pretention in Mahaffeys, and we go there often enough that I recognize neighborhood regulars all the time. It's a beer lover's bar, a place to come for their great happy hours, pint nights (where you can take home a pint glass from chosen brewery if you order a beer from that brewery), and to get closer to having your name on a plaque on the wall (after drinking 100 types of beer). It's a sports haven, a place where the owners recognize customer birthdays on their daily printed beer menus, and a bar where you can go for $2 tacos on Tuesday and $.50 wings on Wednesday. I don't think anything on the menu says "gourmet," but it's bar food and it's tasty. I might not have become a regular at Mahaffeys on my own, but I would say that now that I go with regulars, I understand its allure. There are not many (if any) bars that make the same effort to welcome everyone, and certainly, if you like good craft beer for cheap prices, you really can't beat their ever-evolving selection. Mahaffey's doesn't have the flip cup parties, or the trivia nights, or the meat market vibe that many Canton bars have. That, alone, should probably make you a regular, too. read more

This is a small bar that is similar to other bars/restaurants in Baltimore. I went on a Wednesday for happy hour and ordered beer and food. They have a great happy hour beer special, which consists of three 10 oz beers for $5. They have a pretty good list of craft beers on tap and a lot more in bottles. This is a great place to try new and different beers. They also have a bunch of food specials throughout the week. Wednesday is $5 burger night. They also offer their chicken sandwiches for $6. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was ok. The chicken was cooked well and wasn't too dry. But I was expecting it to be spicier and coated in a good buffalo sauce. Since it wasn't spicy enough, the bleu cheese topping overpowered the flavor of the chicken. Overall however, the $6 sandwich and $5 beer(s) were an awesome combination! This has become one of my new favorite happy hour places in Baltimore. One thing to mention: since it is such a small place, it can get pretty loud when at full capacity. read more

Mahaffey's is an amazing neighborhood Pub. 3 drafts for $5 till 7pm you can't beat that deal. Join the beer club, eat all the food you can try, enjoy the beers on tap, and most of all soak in the Baltimore culture. The Staff is amazing here and I've even witnessed newly weds and party leaving the upstairs bar (The wedding occurred in the bar). So many great memorable stories have develop and occurred in this Pub. The food is scrumptious especially the fried pickles (be sure to split the basket with friends). I haven't had good fried pickles anywhere else in Baltimore. This is a great spot to come for Happy Hour with coworkers or friends. It's a little crowded by the downstairs bar and tables, but there is plenty of room upstairs that most customers overlook and even forget is there. read more

Right in the Canton neighborhood of Baltimore lies this fine bar. It is not big, but just the right size to take a few friends and perhaps make a few new ones. The serve cocktails, shots, but craft beer gets the spotlight, which is fine by me. And they seem to give particular attention to locals like Brewers Art, Clipper City, etc. No-frills pub grub is also served by the amiable staff. Wo do a great job keeping up at busy periods with the customers orders. And it really comes across as a proper neighborhood bar, where it is apparent that quite a few patrons are regulars.
