We went for wing night and the food and service was really bad. I was disappointed because we love this place, but we won't spend our money here anymore. The service was terrible and our wings were burned. The wings seemed like the kitchen staff dropped them in the oil, went on a break, and came back to them burning, and just plated them dry, with little to no sauce. The bartender is unprofessional and the wait staff seem to only be working to hang out with each other and their friends that frequent the restaurant. I only want to support local restaurants and this place just smells bad and the bathrooms are dirty and I just cant spend my money where the staff act like the customers don't matter. read more

This place used to have good wings. We have been there twice and the service has been bad. The waitress has a boyfriend in the restaurant, she takes orders and then go and talk to her boyfriend. The other staff are always taking very loud about things that have nothing to do with the restaurant or food. The food took forever and then when we finally got it, the boneless wings were overcooked and very dry!!!! We were not the only ones with this awful experience, the other couple that was there, they also received awful service and never got their fries!!! Overall, a bad experience and never going back ! I came in for a quick lunch. Ordered the Fish & Chips. The waitress was overbearing and checking on me every few minutes. Is it worse than being ignored? Not many people in the place. Nice lighting and comfortable seating. When the fish came it was so hot I could not pick it up. When I did pick it up, it dripped grease. Lots of breading on a bland fish with tons of oil. Side of fries (a lot) and a very small coleslaw. The fries were good and well-seasoned but A little greasy. The slaw...I almost spit it out. I love coleslaw and at one time I bet theirs was good. This was slimy! I told the server it was slimy and she said "Coleslaw is always slimy". Not a response you say to a customer!!! I paid and left. I doubt I will be back. read more

My husband and I stopped here during restaurant week and ordered two Philly cheesesteaks with fries. We were impressed with the portion of food and how quickly the food arrived. The restaurant atmosphere was cozy and played a fun homage to all things Philadelphia. Our only complaint was that the waitress brought a beer menu, took our menu to show another table, and then never came back and asked for our beer order. The timing of it made us not bother ordering a beer and we finished our meal without. We would stop here again, but would be quicker with ordering beer the next time around! read more

I ordered from Philadelphia Tavern for the first time, thanks to positive reviews on Google and Yelp. I was in the mood for a meal of fried fish on the day that I ordered. It's hard to find a place that does good fish in Manassas. I got the 'Fish & Chips' with a side of onion rings. When I got my food, I was happy with how it was packaged - the onion rings were in one box and the fish and fries were in another, all within 1 plastic bag. The fish & chips was $15, and the side of onion rings was $5. Not a bad price. The fish had a great look to it! Very beautiful. The breading for the fish had great flavor and crunch. The fries were a bit soggy, but that's okay. The fries tasted great, as well. The onion rings were perfect, and I loved them. The only negative thing I have to say about the food was that the pieces of fish were so huge that some bites had almost no breading to them, leaving a bland taste in my mouth of nothing-ness. The fish by itself with no breading has no real seasoning to speak of, and is just plain boring. If they could take the pieces of fish and cut them into smaller pieces, and coat all those pieces in breading, I think it would be for the better -- Each bite would have an amazing flavor. Try this place, if you're on the fence about it, or you never have had it. This is the only thing I've gotten from there, to date (2/14), and the food was so good that I will be going back again. About a 3-3.5: The Philadelphia Tavern is a bar for Eagles fan or for anyone from the Philly area who gets a little homesick. They offer a Philly-centered menu, burger nights, wing nights, and kid options, too. We ordered: the Texas Tommy Fries (topped with cheeze wiz and bacon, served with a side of ranch dressing), a cup of Clam Chowder (a house recipe with bacon and celery), and, a Classic Cheesesteak with onions and provolone (and, yes, they do ship-in and use the Amoroso roll!). The Texas Tommy Fries was very enjoyable, as it had an ample amount of the cheeze wiz and tons of bacon on top - the fries were crispy and tasty! We weren't fans of the clam chowder, as it had an off taste to it and not as thick and creamy as we thought; we found it very watered down. The cheesesteak was tasty - greasy and stuffed to the max with the meat, there were plenty of onions and a generous amount of mayo. Service was welcoming and attentive, and the atmosphere is very laid-back and comfortable. There were several mounted TVs that were playing Eagles games. I'd like to come back and try out the rest of the menu, particularly their appetizers and their wings! So it's great when you eat in. A little crazy, but if there are any errors in your food, of course they can fix that. So last weekend. I ordered to go food and when I finally got home and my friends hungry and ready to eat, the wings were completely dry there was no sauce on them whatsoever (therefore bland, and just tasting of oil ) and the potatoes had no gravy. It wasn't worth bringing it back with the distance and parking on a busy Saturday afternoon , but I was most disappointed as their wings are fabulous cold the next morning once the sauce has really soaked in and who can eat mashed potatoes without their amazing brown gravy so my dogs got mashed potatoes for dinner that night and I literallyhad nothing because the wings were terrible with zero seasoning/sauce. We had great meal here. Visiting from NC we relied on Yelp to help us find a good Steak House. Our reservation was at 8:00 on a Thursday night, there were people waiting outside and the restaurant was full so plan accordingly. We were seated right at 8:00. A waitress came to take our drink order immediately. Another waitress came to take our food order. We ordered the Whiskey Rib Eye to share, a loaded baked potato and an extra salad. The salad bar was well stocked and fresh. Our steak was perfection! Cooked medium rare delicious flavor and thickness. The wait staff checked on us multiple times and in today's world where there doesn't seem to be enough help at most places, this was not the case here. What's more the staff seemed to work as a team and were pleasant to each other as well as the customers. We will be back if we come to Omaha again. read more

As someone raised in the Philly area stuck near DC, I've often complained that there aren't any Philly-style regular bars around here. When my friend, also from the Philly area, told me that he'd heard of a "Philly Tavern" in Manassas, we quickly made plans to visit. If you're from Philly and miss your old neighborhood bar, you'll feel at home at the Philadelphia Tavern. It looks like a Philly neighborhood bar inside... Not like a designer was trying to make a stylized play inspired by a Philly bar, but just the wood bar, wood tables, and eclectic stuff on the walls that you'd actually find in a Philly bar. The service also displays the best of the Philly ethos. Direct, no BS, but willing to go above and beyond to help you out. Among several points of unbelievably good service, we discovered that a game we wanted to watch wasn't on TV and a server offered to let us watch on his phone! The cheesesteak is legit. It would be pretty respectable if it were in Philly... which is not something I would have expected to say about a cheesesteak in Manassas. When I was there, they also had a Philly Italian pork sandwich on the specials menu (my friend and I ordered both sandwiches and split them). That was great. If it's not regularly available, I'd encourage them to make it so if that's doable. We also got appetizers. All good. Don't expect anything fancy or any spectacle. The Philadelphia Tavern is located downtown and there's plenty of parking. Be careful crossing the railroad tracks. We were immediately greeted and waited on. Service was good and the food was great. My wife had fish and chips and I had a Philly Cheesesteak. We both enjoyed our meals and quite honestly was almost too much. Only issue was the sodas were rather flat. My colleague and I enjoyed our lunch visit here. The location was Interesting as it was in the small, quaint downtown area of Manassas. The storefront was nice enough and the interior was pleasantly vintage in feel. We walked in on a Tuesday afternoon and found a light crowd there. As such we were seated right away. Our server attended to us relatively quickly and did a good job taking care of us. I opted for a Hot Pastrami on Rye which was very tasty. It was accompanied by homemade chips, which provided a nice touch. Our cost was fairly reasonable as we were able to get away for $18 per person including food, drinks, tax and tip. I was very happy with the value this represented. If I am in the area again, I will definitely consider trying this place again. read more

This establishment is located in Old Town Manassas. We parked across the street in the parking lot. My husband and I came here on Sunday evening for a bite and some drinks. We went inside and were greeted right away by the bartender. My husband and I shared a calamari and a 4 alarm cheesesteak. The cheese steak was amazing, better than most places I've been to. Tasted closest to a real cheesesteak from Philly. The calamari was tender and crispy. We enjoyed both sauces that came with it. The bartender checked on us frequently and made sure we had everything we needed. He was so on top of everything. Since we were sharing he even asked the kitchen staff to split our 4 alarm cheese steak onto two plates. Super considerate of him. We drank some beers from the tap and my husband also had some whiskey. The ambiance is fairly causal. It seemed like a lot of regulars come in, the bartender knew most of the customers by name. We were able to find Philadelphia tavern as we were looking for Central Brewing. They are next door to each other. The seating at Central was crowded so we decided to find a table at Philadelphia tavern. They had seating there in front of the tavern and also there were standing tables set up on the street that was closed. The staff was friendly and all were wearing masks. There was signage clearly posted on the door that required you to wear a mask if you were to come inside. Staff was seen cleaning tables as people got up. We had our two dogs who were loved on by the entire staff, they brought out a dog bowl for them to enjoy. The cheesesteaks were recommended to us. The 4 alarm sounded great, but being almost 8pm, I thought I would take it easy on my digestive system. I ordered a regular cheesesteak and made it a hogie for a dollar more. The food came out quick. We noticed that we needed a knife and fork, just a quick. Bread is an underrated part of the cheesesteak. Unfortunately this bread didn't stack up. 3.5 Stars Before I begin this review, I need to make two things very clear. 1) Like their sports, Philly people take their cheese steaks seriously. 2) I'm quite OFFENDED by the reviewer that called the cheese steak a "steak 'n cheese sub" I shudder at the sheer combination of those words. I first found out about this place I believe from Washingtonian magazine. It had mentioned how the owners are from Philly and wanted to bring authentic Philly "cuisine" to Northern Virginia. As a Philly native myself, I was very excited to come and try it. And what better to test their Philadelphia cooking but to try a cheese steak! Now anyone from Philadelphia knows that what MAKES a cheese steak is the ROLL. The menu had mentioned the rolls come from Amoroso Bakery - GOOD START!!! As I waited for my cheese steak to arrive, I heard the familiar sounds of the chef in the back dicing up the steak on a flat grill. Don't bother springing an extra dollar for the fries. The chips here are excellent. They are homemade and sort of thick cut (as the best way to describe them) and seasoned well. As for the cheese steak, the roll was perfect. The steak and cheese were the part that were slightly disappointing. The cheese steak felt "weak" to me. As in, there wasn't that much meat inside. Or cheese. It needed more. The cheese steak is a "fat" sandwich. It just needed more. On a side note, I did try the chili which is supposedly made with Yuengling (Can't get much more Philly than that) The cup is HUGE. It's really a good deal on the chili and tastes good. In all, this is pretty darn close to the real deal. I've never been here for an Eagles game but I'd be inclined to come back over the summer or especially the fall when the Phillies make the playoffs again. :) read more

I've been coming here since they opened though I'm not what you'd call a regular since I live about 30 miles away. But anytime I was in Manassas, I would stop in, sometimes just for a drink and appetizer, but just as often for a meal. The cheesesteaks here were definitely the best in NoVA and actually rivaled the best that Philadelphia has to offer. My recent visit left me less than impressed though, and I really hate to leave a negative review for a place that I've always loved. The place seems to have lost a lot of its personality and charm. Bar service was extremely lackadaisical and inattentive, and it just seemed dingy and not nearly as clean as it used to be. It felt more like a dive than the nice tavern it used to be. I had the Buffalo chicken dip with tortilla chips, which I've ordered before but this time it was not good at all. About half the chips were just broken little fragments and they seemed less than fresh. The dip was extremely greasy and very disappointing. Really this should be a 2 star review but it would be unfair to not factor in the many 4 and 5 star visits I've experienced in the past so I'm hoping this was just an off day? I want to continue to support Philadelphia Tavern and would give them another shot based on previous experiences. I've actually recommended them to countless people who asked me where to get a good cheesesteak or a good place to have a drink and bite when they're in Manassas. read more

After a great family weekend watching the Panthers dismantle the Redskins, our group of five decided on a cheese steak dinner. James was scheduled to take the 730p train to the CLT so we were able to dine well and be close to the train station...though Amtrak was a half hour late.
