Food was below average, service was in need of serious help and when 3 people delivered the food they did not assists and walked off causing the eggs and potatoes to be cold before the waitress could serve. The entreè salads always hit the spot. My favorite is the crab salad on the patio with a glass of something dry and crisp. Service is always terrific. Pleasant ambiance. Generally quiet and a great place to have a relaxing lunch or dinner. Pretty much have had all the entreès and specials when they offer them and generally satisfied to pleased. I've never had a bad meal or service experience. Some meals are tastier and there has been consistency issues if Chef Sandy is off or if there is a big event taking place. We were invited to go with a friend to Brass Cannon, having not been there before. It was over-all a great experience with a very pleasant atmosphere and very helpful and attentive wait staff. We ordered the Charcuterie appetizer and all enjoyed it. I ordered a chicken dish that was dark meat only with potatoes and Taro, with a few pieces of Asparagus underneath. It wasn't awful, but I would not order that again. My wife ordered a Chicken sandwich which she said could have easily been made at Chick-Fil-A. It was a thin piece of chicken heavily battered and served with chips. Our friend got the Shrimp & Crawfish Etouffee. She said it was very good. read more

We'd been meaning to come here since we moved to the area and never got around to it, but they had an interesting Valentine's menu so we decided to give them a try. Good decision! We normally don't go out for Valentine's Day - too crazy, too rushed, too crowded, too noisy. This was anything but - great ambience, attentive but not fussy service, and great food and wine. We missed the staff on our way out but they rushed outside to bring us a Valentine's Day rose. We will definitely go back - perhaps for brunch. read more

In the neighborhood for date night and found this place with availability. We ordered dinner (Fontina gnocchi and 8oz filet). Pros: lovely view of the golf course and drinks (hibiscus margarita and mailbu baybreeze) were tasty. Gnocchi sauce was good Cons: presentation of drinks was poor. Malibu drink was in a Column drink and margarita was in champagne class. Filet came with mashed potatoes only; no salad. Gnocchi had a lot of sauce so appearance was more a soup. Served its purpose but given the location of the stonewall golf club and near lake manassas, I had higher expectations for the restaurant. read more

I was tired of the same places in Gainesville, but I didn't want to drive all the way to Fairfax for some next-level food. I'm thrilled I tried this restaurant on a whim. You don't need a golf membership, the view as you eat of the green is awesome, but the food alone is enough to come back. They do offer takeout, but they also have outdoor seating. I highly recommend the cheese board. You get so much! I had have the chicken salad sandwich, the BLT, and a fig flatbread since I have started going here. All three were awesome. The chef made their own bacon. What does that even mean?! I don't care it tasted amazing. read more

We went on Sunday at 12:30 for brunch. The bread was stale and dry, the food was all bland, the meat was tough, and the corned beef hash was over salted. There also was not much selection, and the omelet and waffle bar was sporadically manned by a staff member. It was like a bad nursing home cafeteria. We brought our concerns to the manager, Greg, whose reply was that no one else had complained, and that the buffet started at 11, and since it was about 1, that's basically just what you should expect. Ummm, what?! The servers didn't remove plates in a timely manner, so we had to bus our own table by moving our plates to an empty table, of which there were many. (Not surprisingly....) The waiter was attentive at first, until it came time to pay the check (ironically, since that can make or break a tip) at which point he stood at the host's podium and chatted with the manager and a customer right in front of us... while we sat and waited. We used to go frequently but the service and quality has tanked over the last couple of years and we will not be returning. read more

Great place in the Gainesville area. 5 stars because for the type of food, the boring chains found in the area don't compare. They have prime rib night every Thursday and it's quite tasty. The bread served with the meal has a great flavor and is warm and soft. Had Bells IPA on draft, live music and a laid back atmosphere. You can wear casual attire or dress up a bit for a date night. The Brass Cannon Restaurant is inside the club house at Stonewall Golf Club. The ambiance is nice and you can over look the course and what I think is part of Lake Manassas (a lake that no longer has any public access). Unfortunately, the quality of the ingredients is low. We decided to both order hamburgers to try this place out for lunch. The hamburger meat was greasy and of low grade. It was comparable to those boxed patties you get in a big box store in the frozen food section. The cheese was also of inferior quality. We both expected better quality from this restaurant. The waitress did not write our order down so she ended up getting the order wrong. The knocked off 20% of the incorrect order. The onion straws were tasty as a side but the sweet potato wedges were undercooked and not worth eating at all. If we were not both really hungry, we would have returned the hamburgers. We do not plan to return to dine here because if they can't make a decent burger, they probably cannot make anything else very well either. While we were there they also had the Sunday's buffet going on. It looked uninviting with the first table you see set up with what appeared to be mass produced mini donuts and cookies. The only thing I wouldn't mind doing here again would be stopping in for a beer. They have Stella Artois on tap and it was good. read more

We went here on a Sunday night last week to celebrate a birthday for a friend. I had called to make a reservation and was told that they close at 7pm. On a Sunday? So I said fine, and made an "earlybird" reservation for 5:30. I specifically asked if we could sit outside on the patio because the weather was beautiful, and was told that was fine. When we got there, they were having a "celebration of life" in the next room that sounded like a New Years Eve party. It was so loud that we were going to leave, but the birthday boy said that he could stick it out. The food and wine were both very good. Service was fine, although no one checked to see if we needed anything after the food was served. Not another soul showed up to eat dinner that night. We were literally the ONLY people in the restaurant. The party finally died down by 6:30 and we could finally hear ourselves without raising our voices. We went outside to walk out to the patio. Would have been nice to have been out there for dinner. I might give it another try but not anytime soon. This place has potential but they should think about staying open later and marketing specials or something to get business on Sundays. The view is amazing and it seems like a shame to waste it. read more

New chef. New menu. I bet it will end up being the best steak you have ever had. I have been eating here for almost 15 years - it has been a convenient (and good) neighborhood hang with great and friendly staff. This new chef and the menu he created, however, have completely raised the game. This is now a fine dining experience - in a casual setting. The menu features incredible cuts of meat (but I only tried the filet) and a sea scallops dish that has me now craving sea scallops! They still serve burgers and sandwiches and other "bar" food, but from what I saw, none of it looks like the greasy stuff you typically get at a bar. I am definitely excited to try some of these items. And, if you have never been here, the views overlooking the 18th green and pond are amongst the prettiest in the area. read more

One of the worst dining experiences I have had in a long time. My family and I decided to celebrate Father's day early so made 12pm reservations. Arrived about 15 minutes early to the noisiest room possible. The manager when I mentioned it, said yes the acoustics are bad. My family arrived and we waited 20 minutes just for water. A server did not appear for another 10 minutes to take our drink order. When I mentioned this to the manager, she said well we were 15 minutes early. What does that mean. Our server was a young man, who through no fault of his own, besides wondering what I meant by ordering toast, as if this were a food from another planet. After ordering it took another 30 minutes for our strange meal to arrive. Biscuits with sausage gravy has substance on it that was indecipherable. Shrimp and grits had large pieces of red peppers and various other vegetables. The manager this enter time was only concerned with a group of obviously regulars. Please take it from me, DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. AWFUL read more

We remember when Brass Cannon was in an industrial park/warehouse strip in Toano... and loved it then. We love it more now, seeing (and tasting) the growth and success of the company. These guys LOVE craft brewing and experimentation - which shows in their creative small batch brews. Now that they've got cans (in addition to the typical growler fills) we are super happy! Of course, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention tge awesome bartender/server Emily, who is always very helpful and ready to assist and answer questions. Now, if we could just convince the owners to make a large batch of Coco Brown so we can bottle it, we'd be ecstatic. read more

I was expecting more a formal golf club dining room, what you get is the equivalent of the casual grill room, with a limited menu and cafeteria like setting. Great food! Service has always been top notch! The lobster and crab cake is fantastic. We get the sandwich for a more affordable option. Nice, quiet place for an intimate happy hour with a friend or for two couples. Great for weekend lunch, too! Love the view! It's a golf club restaurant, so be prepared for a limited (albeit tasty) menu. The appetizers are all tasty (the spring rolls are really tasty and very small, go great for sharing a little nibble with others) and the desserts are great too!! Dress isn't dressy, but golf course appropriate (collared shirts for men). I've worn nice jeans (as in, no holes) and it was fine for dinner, but I just don't suggest weekend project outfits or super casual t-shirts. read more

I was impressed with this place, because it is casual, has great views of the lake/golf course, wait staff was super nice, and the food was reasonably priced but more importantly was great! Came here for a casual birthday- made reservations for 8. I had the reuben which was delicious! We also ordered the mozarella sticks and wings; sticks were good, wings were OK. Full bar so we all ordered beers and mixed drinks too, which were good. Overall, impressed and would definintely return for casual dining and/or events! Didn't even know this place was here for the 6 years I've lived in the area, so I was glad to find it and add it to the restaurant rotation. One of the best restaurants in town (which actually is not saying much). Their food is always good, nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about either. I've taken most visitors who come stay with me here. My 91 year old grandmother loved it and she is very hard to please. Again, I've never had a bad meal. We have been here for lunch and liked it very much, good quality food at a reasonable price. We have also done their Easter and Mother's Day brunch and enjoyed it...not the best selection of food but the setting is very nice. My biggest complaint recently is that I've called them to make reservations...they don't answer the phone! You are asked to leave a number and they will call you back.
