We have not been to Harry's in a long time, but we decided to go again last night. We had an hour wait, so we went to the bar; wife had a martini and I had a soft drink. She said, "Since it's going to be an hour wait, let's order an app." We decided on the onion rings. Holy smokes, wicked good!!! As soon as we were done, our table was ready!! This is great! We had perused the menu and we both decided on The Butcher Steak with fingerling potatoes and asparagus. I don't really care for asparagus, and the waitress said I could substitute a few different things including... wait for it... onion rings!!! I was like, "That's it!!"We got our food and, my gosh, everything was spot on! On top of that, the onion rings were cooked a little more than the app, and OMG!! They may have been the best onion rings outside of Harraseeket Lunch & Lobster in Freeport, Maine. They were absolutely scrumptious. The steak was tender and beautiful, the potatoes were perfection, and my wife said the asparagus was delightful. I almost forgot. Came here as a family of four for brunch on a Sunday. Made reservations, though they weren't very busy when we got there at 11:30AM. But by the time we left, the outdoor seating was almost packed, so be safe and make reservations, if you can. The menu is amazing, so many options that all looked appetizing. I can say that everything we got was nicely made and tasted great! Their burger is definitely really good, you can taste the freshness of the locally raised beef. The bun and everything about it was really nicely done. Right now, they have a seasonal starter of pumpkin beignets which we got... they didn't resemble the form, nor texture of any beignets we've ever gotten, but they sure did taste really good! (We did have to wait quite a while for plates from our server so we could share them though) Their onion rings and fries are both amazing. The dip that comes with the onion rings is so very tasty! The restaurant is located at Airlie Center, a beautiful wooded property in Fauquier county. The menu is basically comfort food very well executed. The staff is friendly and helpful, the ambiance peaceful. We enjoyed our brunch. They would do well to have bread or something on the table for you to nibble on if service is going to take that long. The burgers were very good, and a good size, and were all cooked properly. Three burgers, one Caesar salad, one $2 upcharge for onion rings and two $4 upcharges for bacon. No appetizers, no desserts, no beverages other than tap water. $81 and change. So, when it was all said and done with gratuity, it was $100 for three burger meals and one side salad. Yeah, prices have gone up, but that's very high for Fauquier County VA. Parking is a little strange. There are only five or six spaces right at the restaurant. It's a bit of a walk, and on a hill, if you don't get one of those spaces. If you don't have mobility issues, the walk is not a problem. However, if you have someone in your party with mobility issues, you're probably going to want to drop them off at the restaurant if none of the close-by spaces are available. As a side note, they do have two car chargers in the larger, further parking lot, but they are pay car chargers. They are not free destination chargers. 1 star for the long wait, 2 stars for the high prices, 4 stars for the very friendly waitress, 5 stars for the food. Averages out at 3 stars. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants. We arrived with my family of seven without a reservation. The place was packed inside, since outside dining was not available due to the colder weather. We were lucky to score three hightops, which they moved for us so we could occupy in the front of the restaurant. I started with and enjoyed my two caramel apple martinis with sour apple schnapps, butterscotch schnapps, vodka and caramel for $12 each. We shared their fried cheese curd for $12 and cauliflower bites for $10 although I am not a fan of cauliflower. The cheese curd, which we had for the first time, was very tasty. I enjoyed my medium rare local steak frites with a 12 ounce Berkshire ribeye, house frites, asparagus and bone marrow butter for $34. It was properly cooked and tasted good. We walked in on a Saturday night and there was only one other couple in the place. And the hostess asked us if we had a reservation. Sure looked like a lot of empty tables to me. We ordered an appetizer because BF was hangery. It was queso dip and a handful of chips. For $14. It was decent but not worth $14. I had the rockfish BLT. Just ok. I'm not sure how/why my review for "The Whistling Swan Pub" got merged into the business listing for "Harry's." Both were/are venues at Airlie - but The Whistling Swan Pub was up the hill in a different building from Harry's - and both are VERY different businesses. In any case - Harry's is a much warmer and more welcoming venue than The Whistling Swan Pub ever was. There is a full bar staff, wait staff, managers - and such - ready to go at Harry's. At the Whistling Swan Pub - you usually had one bartender - and no one else. And very limited food options - that had to be delivered from the main kitchen at Airlie down the hill. Harry's has a nice bar, lots of craft beer and cocktail options. They also have a number of HD flat panel TV's around the room - with a recently installed speaker system - so that you can actually hear the game of the day (at least during football season). The food is good - the wings are tasty, as are the Buffalo Cauliflower bites. We recently requested they offer hand-stuffed Blue Cheese olives for dirty vodka martinis. And they did it! Love ordering Dirty vodka martinis with Blue Cheese stuffed olives! There is also an outside patio area - which is nice during warmer weather, overlooking the pond. On Friday nights - during nicer weather - they were showing a Friday Night movie via projector - outside. Harry's is located in the basement level of the main Airlie building. You can enter directly into Harry's from the outside by the pond - or enter through the main entrance into the main Airlie building - and descent the stairway down to Harry's. Another reviewer has mistaken comments - probably from the Whistling Swan Pub review that got merged in - that the kitchen is elsewhere. Biscuits, something trivial to make right, was a tiny, bland bulk buy frozen biscuit. Sausage was prepackaged hotel breakfast grade sausage. Fries were limp and from frozen. $9-10 grilled cheese was just toasted bread with some barely soft colbyjack or other mixed cheese in-between. Hamburger looked like it was packed with steamed meatloaf. Honestly, the food was an embarrassment and the prices just outrageous for such poor fare. The best thing about this restaurant is the setting: very beautiful and bucolic. My husband made a reservation for Mother's Day Brunch for 12 well over a month ago. We would be visiting from SC and my youngest daughter and hubby from NJ. I will also add here that my husband called several times during that timespan to confirm the reservation (including 2 days prior) just to ensure there were no last minute mixups. Our reservation was made for an inside table right from the beginning . We had an infant as well as 2 other little ones in our party. Mother's Day turned out to be quite chilly in Va. and when we arrived at the restaurant they were putting us outside! We ultimately spoke to the manager who grudgingly wound up putting 2 tables together and putting us inside near the door. The price per person was stated to be $39 for adults (less for children ) . The menu looked amazing and the price sounded too good to be true. You know how the rest of that goes - that most likely it IS too good to be true. This is false advertising at its finest (or worst). Here was what WAS NOT at their Buffet "stations": Fresh Oyster Bar; Salmon with Asparagus en croute; seared Rockfish with roasted tomatoes; Fresh greens; Tomato and mozzarella display; Grilled chicken with mushrooms; sautéed asparagus with baby carrots and other veggies. The food that was offered was mediocre at best - picked over and it took a long time for dishes to be replenished. Back to the price. They changed it to be $40. Not a big deal, I realize that but considering everything else it just more than justifies this lousy review. To add insult to injury the Mothers in our group (3) were never provided a long stem rose as were other Moms upon their arrival. My husband had to request them at the bar for us! Our server was nice and somewhat attentive but in general this place is just pitiful! Maybe it would have been better if we had the opportunity to order off of the regular menu. I liked Harrys. Small pub downstairs from a huge, beautiful catering hall. Quaint and friendly. I had the soup of the day, a mushroom spinach type bisque. Very good but very filling. My daughter had the crab bisque that she loved. Burgers were hearty and cooked properly, and the scallops with pesto were delicious, although the pesto was somewhat oily but tasted good. Harry's has a great atmosphere, and our waitress was really nice... but they were severely understaffed on a Friday night, and only had two people behind the bar managing drinks from the tables and people sitting at the bar. We had to wait a long time for simple things like bottled beer and a glass of wine. At one point, a glass of wine was poured, but sat at the station for 20 minutes before we asked a food runner if it was the one for our table (it was). Our poor, very stressed waitress just kept apologizing. Also, we made a reservation well in advance, but when we got there, we were told seating is first come first serve, so we had to literally run and grab the only empty table as people were walking over to it. We will definitely give them another chance... this was our first visit. We are hoping this was an anomaly because we've heard great things about Harry's! read more

Late Sunday afternoon and my wife and I were on the prowl for a cocktail and a light dinner. I suggested Harry's, which recently opened in the beautiful Airlie Conference Center compound in Warrenton, Virginia. We drove through the elegant gate and into the compound, finally locating Harry's near the rear of the grounds. Walking up, we admired the festive Christmas lights on the building and saw the very appealing patio area that though without patrons, was in keeping with the beautiful aesthetics of Airlie. We the entered the restaurant, expecting to be greeted by a host or hostess to escort us to our table for an intimate dining experience. Aliens immediately transported us to a miniature version of a cheesy sports bar with lights bright enough to perform brain surgery. Two TVs precariously hung on the wall displayed the evening's fare of tired NFL football games, We jammed ourselves into an uncomfortable booth and perused the menu provided by our otherwise delightful server, Michael. Appetizers were acceptable: soup, salads and other standard fare. The main courses were not inexpensive- 35 bucks for a main course. We opted for salads. Me, a Caesar with grilled chicken; my wife, the Cobb salad, both accompanied by 12 dollar drinks. The dinners came out quickly and were delicious. Obviously, someone in the kitchen mastered the art of preparation and presentation. 60 bucks later, our culinary needs were satisfied. As for the ambiance, Harry's needs to gut this place and start over. It has the potential to be a go to destination in Fauquier County. Everything was good but the crab and corn fritters were amazing. So amazing I ended up ordering more because I actually could've just had those and nothing else for dinner. The ribeye was delicious, and sourced locally. My spouse enjoyed the burger. The kids of course crushed the chicken tenders. Harry's is a remote location associated with a larger resort and conference center. This was not clear from the business listing in Yelp. We were drawn in by all of the great yelp reviews but left disappointed. At the end of a long drive, and after we finally found the place in the dark, we were disappointed to discover that menu had changed since the one posted in previous yelp reviews. I was totally psyched up for the scallop appetizer and an oatmeal stout only to learn that the menu no longer featured these items and was much smaller in scope :-{. We were the only people in the place at 830pm on a Saturday night. To their credit, the service was good (friendly and fast) but the food was ho hum and pricy. My wife ordered the rockfish BLT which was a 2 out of 5 and sweet potato fries which were a 4 out of 5. I ordered the crab cake sandwich which was a 3 out of 5 with regular fries which were as good as the sweet potato fries. Unfortunately the crab cake did not live up to previous reviewer expectations. A small thing but also was disappointed not to have paper towels in the bathroom (only the blower thing). I can understand why a truck stop or the airport would do this to save money and reduce clutter but if you want to have the blower, a nice restaurant should at least have paper towels as an option. read more

To management: I'm a local, who went with a friend on a Thurs. evening to grab a bite and a drink, only to discover there's NO warm food in winter. 5 or 6 "cold choices" only ~ like a summer camp menu. Worst decision ever. No soups, chili, pasta, stews, or even a burger and fries. NO comfort food, and yet a lovely outdoor view, with a big vibrantly Xmas tree and patio lights glowing. Harry's has the potential to be a true winter draw ~ with a little thought and minimal investment, it could have true "ski lodge" appeal and real ambience. Instead it has a Holiday Inn institutional feel. Buy some wool carpets, put in an electric fireplace, hang some local art (for sale by artist), put battery operated candles (that work) on each table, play REAL music (try jazz, blues, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, or even crossover musicians/intergenerational). Offer a basic 5 or 6 choice hearty winter pub menu, and maybe even have music on Fri. nights. What a MISSED OPPORTUNITY. There are mostly chain restaurants in Warrenton. Go for it year round or close. Patrons need constancy, season to season. By the way, the bartender (Josh) and wait staff were great! The service was better this time around, but the acoustics inside are atrocious. We were yelling at each other just so we could hear each other, then we just gave up and watched the televisions. The outside is adorable near the lake and we played cornhole and connect four while we waited for our meal. They had frozen mocktails listed on their menu, but when we asked for one of each the waiter said they no longer have a blender! We got an appetizer and 2 entrees - the chicken tostadas, the pan fried chicken and the steak frites. The tostadas were fine, the chicken was underseasoned and the steak was fatty. The broccolini was crunchy, the mac and cheese waffle was a great idea but was bland, and the bacon Gouda sauce was delicious - just wanted more of it. The Frites should've been warm and needed salt. It was the bottom of a batch since they were crunchy and full of small pieces. It's a shame because we had a good experience here in November 2021, but they changed the menu up. Our meal was so overpriced - $95 before our 20% tip. I was hungry afterwards and was just so turned off by the ambiance. Harry's lacks consistency - sometimes the service is terrible, then the next time it's great but the food is lacking, then the next time the food is scrumptious, but I can't keep giving so many chances. Airlie has such a special place in our heart since we got married there recently, but our latest stay at visit to Harry's was a disappointment. read more
