Honestly, I should have just kept the issue I experienced to myself due to the response I was given. I found a rock in my fry, my tooth is still slightly irritated. I addressed the issue with one of the workers or possible bar back who said that he would send someone out to speak with me. We waited about 15 minutes and no one came. I decided to go in and the general manager Dan came to speak with me. I felt very dismissed, he expressed that the rock probably came from the potato, honestly I was understanding that things like this happen as I also work in service. It was the way he responded to me, as he said "ok and what do you want me to do about it" there was no apologies or I'm sorry this happened. I wasn't asking for him to comp my entire meal, but the least he could have done was apologize and or discount the meal or one beverage. I mainly addressed this issue to make them aware, and I honestly wouldn't have written this review if Dan the general manager was one, polite and two the least bit apologetic. I walked out feeling dismissed and irritated. Better sub your fries for salad unless you would like an unexpected trip to the dentist. read more

In town for only a night on the seemingly coldest day in history we wanted to eat something inexpensive but warming. We hit the jackpot with this tavern. Menu displayed many fabulous choices for a tavern. Waitress was very welcoming and provided recommendations. Being in Maryland I ended up with a Maryland clam chowder soup which was delish. We ordered pretzel sticks appetizers and after eating the appetizer and soup I simply had no more room for my chicken capreze. Ate it the next day while in the road and it was so good! Place was packed and the decor was awesome. Was really eye pleasing . Service was great and super fast considering it was a Friday night. I'm not a beer drinker but had beer. One of my favorite casual food spots in South Baltimore! For a bar, the food is pretty top notch. I love the tuna nachos, their fries are phenomenal and I get their buffalo chicken wrap quite often. Went there with some friends on a whim on one of the first beautiful days of the spring in Maryland, IYKYK. Despite the flow of patrons, the staff was responsive and the food came out quickly. We ended up sitting inside by the windows which was completely fine, despite wanting outdoor seating. Plenty of indoor space and great people watching. I don't even want to preface with "for bar food," because this food need not be categorized. The portions were massive, i was able to take 1/2 of my buffalo cauliflower wrap home. Our go to Sunday dinner spot. Great for sport games, they have TVs all over. The bartenders are super friendly and we always have good conversations with them. And the jams! The have the best playlist every time we are in there. Now for the food- it's slightly elevated bar food but the sandwiches are fabulous. My go to is the grilled ribeye with the pasta salad, but it's hard to go wrong. As you can see in the photo- their salads are huge! Finally- the beer selection is fantastic. I visited Wiley Gunters for dinner. It's a neighborhood bar in Baltimore. TVs lined the wall and there was a chalkboard with a variety of beers offered. I was greeted and told to sit wherever. Service was quick, I ordered my food and it was very little wait time. Different servers checked on us throughout our time which I appreciated. I ordered the chicken Caesar wrap and I was able to sub out the grilled chicken for crispy chicken. It was delicious. The chicken was very well seasoned and the fries...chef's kiss! I have been back here several times since my last review because of the fries. This bar is one of the only commanders bar I know of and the prices are truly affordable. I've been to Wiley's MANY times - not sure why I'm just now getting around to this review. That said, I popped by on 9/22 hoping to get a steak dinner special that was a thing some years ago. Newsflash...that deal no longer exists, lol. My friend and I sat outside on a very nice Sunday evening. We scanned the QR codes on the table to order food and drink. I went with the chimichurri steak and a beer whose name I can't recall but it was delightful (and a recommendation from the bartender). I'll be stopping by again soon to drink it again! For $24 the chimichurri steak is a good deal. It comes with a huge caesar salad and fries. The steak was cooked to my specification and was very well seasoned, plus there was a lot of fat left on, which I like. Payment was easy. I shall return. read more

Wileys is a Commanders, Orioles, and Virginia Tech focused sports bar. They stand out for two keys reasons - the beer list is large and excellent, and the food is really elevated for a sports bar. We came on a Sunday for lunch, and it was pretty busy, but there were two open seats at the bar. Plenty of tables and a small patio out front, too, so there is a lot of space. For drinks, I had a Hardywood Gingerbread Stout, a beer I think of as Christmas in a cup. I don't think I've ever seen it on draft anywhere, and I was especially not expecting to see it on a menu in May, so it was a pleasant treat. So delicious. They had tons of cannee beer in the freezer, too, for even more options. For food, we split two dishes. The chesapeake burger is top notch. It is a thick burger topped with cheese and some tasty crab dip, on a pretzel bun. We were satisfied. It comes with a big side of old bay fries, too, which were so delicious. Our second dish was even better, the hot chicken. It was a perfect thick hunk of fried chicken topped with pickles and caramelized onions, smothered in a hot sauce, and served on a toasted brioche bun. Highly recommended. The two paired perectly. For about $14 apiece, it is good value. We enjoyed everything and didn't even finish it all. Bonus points for the sweet pirate portrait in the corner. read more

Great service! The blond guy with tattoos at the bar was super friendly and helpful. We were happy sitting outside but we noticed some groups had been waiting for a table and the staff would come outside to let them know as soon as a spot opened for them. We got the pretzels for an appetizer and they came out hot. The rest of our food was good. We did notice an extra charge for drinks ordered outside using the QR codes, but you could probably just go inside and order at the bar to avoid it. Street parking was a bit hard to find, but we were able to find some behind the restaurant. We ordered a Nepenthe (Local) Hazy IPA and a Veil Thorn Lager (Va). Both were crisp and tasty. We ordered a couple of starters. Pin Nachos were very good and the Corn Chowder was perfect given the cold/overcast day. Ordered a Smoke Burger to go. Patty had just the right amount of smoke with the Smoked Gouda and mushrooms balancing it out. Asked for medium and got medium-yes! Legit Burger. Service was attentive and friendly. Wasn't too busy when we were there around 4 on a Saturday. Parking can be tricky. Street or at the strip mall around the corner (we parked there). Great beer selection and Burgers! I have been to WG a few times now, but today I had possibly my best experience so far! My wife and I and our two dogs stopped in for lunch. We each got a sandwich, I tried a couple different cans of beer, and my wife had an iced tea. First of all, the drinks list here is great. Tons of great beer on tap, tons of great cans, lots of mix drink option. All prices are super reasonable. Don't get me wrong, you can spend a lot on drink here, they are not cheap, but they are very good value for what you are getting. On the non-alcoholic front, my wife had a iced tea and was happy to find it not too sweet for her linking. Drinks were easily 5/5 as was the food. I got a spicy meatball sub. Very good, very filling, fries were great. My with got the Baja tuna sandwhich. She really enjoyed it but wished there had been a bit more seasoning on it. A bit more salt and maybe a bit more spice would have made it even better, but as it was she ate every last bite. TLDR; we need to come here more often. read more

Our favorite local spot for wings/beer/sports. "Wiley sauce" wings are fire but all of the food is super good and a step above your average bar food. We come here for every commanders/redskins game (they play the fight song after every touchdown and the vibes are always high). Service is kick-ass too! They are always working so hard. read more

Absolutely DELICIOUS FOOD. I was so hungry and devoured the entire wrap and the fries. One of the best meals I had in a long time, but of course a buffalo chicken wrap is one of my favorite foods. My boyfriend and I throughout the next couple days kept mentioning this meal because we liked it so much. The place is cute, we sat outside. Try their juicy burger with their delicious fries (skin on beach style) or their nachos that come with shredded cheese and this melted queso as well = liquid crack. Or I'll have their chicken Caesar wrap where the tortilla is griddled and warm. People also love the ahi tuna nachos and I have had their steak sandwich on chewy crisped bread. Real quality craveable bar food. The customer service is always warm and friendly. And of course, still can't believe this is a Washington DC commanders bar. They still sing "Hail to the R&@$%#^*!!" This is my second chance at this place, as the first go round wasn't that impressive. I am going to skip the usual intro that I give to my reviews and just jump to the meal. 1. Chesapeake Pub Nachos: lump crab homemade queso / fresh tortilla chips / pico sour cream / guacamole upon request chili or blacken chicken. Okay... so THIS is a joke, right? Regretfully I can't tell you the pros of this dish, but I can easily tell you the cons. a) This dish was served ICE COLD. b) there were a bunch of tortilla chips with maybe 3 tablespoons of queso dolloped on top c) the amount of tomatoes and onion sprinkled on top, let me to think that the kitchen must be low on tomatoes and onions d) and the crab meat on top (which is what makes this dish such a recommendation), was just clumps of strands of crab. Not one lump of crab meat anywhere. As this was a dish of pub nachos, I expected the crab meat to be combined in a creamy crab dip with like sauce that would be poured on top. There wasn't enough crab for all the chips. There wasn't enough cheese for all the chips. There wasn't enough tomatoes and onions for the chips. There simply weren't enough toppings to make this dish a good dish. And in case those in the back didn't hear me, the entire dish was ice cold. Who wants ice cold queso?!? NO ONE!!! This may have been the driest serving of nachos I have ever had in my life. It wasn't messy. It wasn't fun. And it certainly wasn't good. They certainly need to be more generous with the toppings. I ended up using all the dried chips left to scoop up the delicious sauce that came with the wings. EPIC FAIL!!! 2. Wings - 10 jumbo wings with celery & blue cheese. Sauces offered: buffalo / extra hot / thai / spicy jerk / mango habanero golden bbq / honey bbq / spicy bbq / sweet chili / old bay /Siriracha / GW's Sauce. We had chose a) Thai and b) Sweet Chili. These wings were absolute rock stars I'm not even a big wing person, but these were absolutely delicious. Once I took my first bite, I couldn't stop devouring them. BOTH the Thai and the Sweet Chili sauces were perfection. I couldn't stop licking my fingers. I wanted to take the container the wings came in, and I wanted to hold it up to my mouth and pour the sauce down my throat. If there was a spoon at the table, I would've spooned up all that sauce. Elated and tickled that we got the wings. In fact, the wings were so good that I forgot to take a picture of them. All I can offer you is a picture of the remains. Sorry. LOL. SCORE!!!! 3. Corn and Crab Chowder - sweet corn blue crab / fresh vegetables / hint of spice. Talk about a MAJOR MISS!!! When one sees 'corn and crab chowder' on the menu in an area where there is a well-known port is known for their seafood (especially crabs), one expects generous amounts of seafood in the seafood dishes offered. This chowder took 20 minutes to get to our table. Once we got our small bowls of chowder (I definitely thought there was going to be a larger serving). It was 'covered' in old bay seasoning all over the top, catapulted the sodium content through the roof. Since it was here, I wanted to taste it. Maybe the flavor was outstanding once I mixed the old bay into the soup. Wrong: a) this bowl was piping hot. It was so hot that I couldn't eat it for several minutes. I tend to think that it was actually microwaved before they brought it out; b) there was ZERO crab to be seen in this chowder. Not a piece of lump or even a strand of crab meat anywhere. If this chowder had crab, it was in the form of crab broth. When I mentioned that I couldn't find any crab in the crab chowder, I was told that they combine it into the chowder. What in the world is that supposed to even mean? Crab can be added it to a chowder and you can still see it. That was a BS excuse; c) there was no flavor to this chowder; d) after stirring in the generous pouring of old bay, this 'chowda' became nothing more than a salt lick. We returned the soups. EPIC FAIL!!! 4. 1911 Jam On It Hard Apple Cider. This was the absolute star of the show! This cider had so much flavor and so much depth that you couldn't help but enjoy it if you enjoy fruity flavors or a cider with strong fruit notes, THIS is what you want to try. Trust me, I was so happy that I was introduced to this today. Hell, I may go back just to have this cider. SCORE!!! I will say, however, the service by every single person that came to the table it was exemplary. Everybody was very professional, and very polite. Our main server was amazing and went out of his way to make sure we got to taste a couple beers before we settled on what we were going to have. He made 'wet naps' for us for the delicious, sticky wings. He was really an excellent server. read more

Wiley Gunther's is always busy and still provides great service. They have a very extensive beer list and the workers are always very knowledgeable. As a Hokie, Wiley Gunther's is a VT bar and that automatically pulls them up the ranks but their food is also very good and reliable. Their buffalo cauliflower is some of my favorite in town. On top of their buffalo cauliflower, their ciabatta steak sandwich is PHENOMENAL. You really can't go wrong with what you order and if you don't know the workers have always been happy to help, even on their busiest days they are able to get food out in a timely manner. read more

Visited Wiley's Gunters last night from a social aspect it definitely could've been better but for that I can't blame the establishment more so the people I was with...so much for "friends." Service was great definitely lightened the tension at the table when the server would kindly stop by. Got a crush to warm up followed by two more mules and personally all three drink tasted amazing, hats off to the mixologist.
