Wow. Just wow. When I saw the average 5 start review of this restaurant, I knew that it would be good. But I never imagined this level of eating from this newly famous Miami sushi hotspot. Let me start by thanking our server Jay, who helped us navigate our food experience at Uchi. The menu is somewhat overwhelming, and as previous reviewers have suggested, it is SO important to trust your server on this one. Seriously. They know what they're doing. Drinks: Round one was the Rubigawa, a take on a paloma as well as the Subarashi, a tangy citrus mezcal drink. Both great. Can you tell that we've tequila? Round two was a Last Word and a Naked and Famous. Both off the menu, but these are two drinks only true cocktail lovers would know. The naked and famous is similar twist on the last word, but with aperol (I always order with mezcal). I am often hesitant to order these except at true cocktail bars. Let me tell you- I am so glad that I did. Thanks to our server, Jay, who clearly knows his cocktails. Food: ....I hope you're ready for this. We started with the Hama chili, a house favorite. The yellowtail was an ample serving compared to many of the smaller portioned items, topped with fish eggs and a ponzu sauce that was so good I almost licked the bowl clean. We also got hirame Isuzukuri which is a flounder, though not my typical first choice fish order I was thoroughly impressed by the freshness and candied quinoa on top was absolutely delicious. Next were the oysters, which were sweet and smaller in size (quality over quantity, right?) topped with a surprising raspberry fruity topping that is hard to explain but just made sense. We ordered after the Akami crudo which was bigeye tuna with an aji Amarillo sauce to satisfy my tuna craving, and the masu Pom, a trout dish that was creamy and delectable, that would be perfect for a salmon lover. We also got the waygu ringo, a melt in your mouth short rib dish. Now, let me get to my favorites. The halibut. OMG. I completely looked over this as I was scrolling the menu, but Jay recommended this one and I'm so happy I tried. The flavors were insane. Despite looking like a melted ice cream sandwich, this dish was truly unlike anything I'd had before. I wish I could explain the flavors better but it's just so mind blowing. The halibut fish is a white flaky fish with a crispy outer topping with shit take mushrooms and veggies- but seriously- my description doesn't even do it justice. TRY IT. Another favorite was the tanin bune, which is perfectly paired urchin with salmon roe that comes cutely alongside a cracked quail egg that you take as a shot. I am a huge fish roe lover, so this was an absolute treat. Can't forget - the foie gras nigiri. It's incredible, see all the other reviews. It melts in your mouth and tastes like sex. The tapa style happy hour is decidant and delightful. The Foie Gras was the best, it just melts in your mouth. The sushi is so fresh it did not need any dipping sauce. Sooo tasty. Every bite of the dishes we ordered was like going to heaven and back. I was recently pregnant and couldn't have any raw fish so to go here and have their fresh fish made me the happiest person in the world. By far, one of the best new places in Miami. We were greeted and escorted to our table outside which had a very moderate noise level being in almost in the courtyard of the residential building. Throughout dining experience a few people passed including a homeless man, oh well, Midtown is still Midtown. Let's talk about the food! Everything we picked from a very extensive menu was exceptional. My main suggestion is to always ask your server for their recommendations because I promise you they have tasted the majority is not all of the menu which is super important. We were very lucky with the server and this Four Seasons-trained amazing Dorothy gave us the best guidance throughout the dinner experience. This is one of those rare times I'd give a place more than five if I could. I waited weeks for my reservation and the wait was well worth it. First of all, know that this is a moderately priced restaurant, but it is possible to dine here without spending a fortune. We ordered a few things from the menu that we very much wanted to try, and the rest came from the happy hour menu, which is available from 5-6:30 even outside. I really enjoyed the chance to try my way through the menu. I ordered a beer, my boyfriend ordered sake, and we didn't stop ordering from there. I enjoyed the entire experience. Every dish I asked about was explained to me, and when a dish was brought out, every element of the dish was explained too. Absolute perfection! I have been eyeing Uchi since they opened and all their prime time weekend reservations were booked for weeks. When a happy hour time slot finally opened for Saturday, I immediately snatched it. I'm so grateful I did! Their happy hour menu is amazing and super affordable! We pretty much ordered every single item to try and everything was amazing. We started with two drinks, the old fashioned and Uchi G&T. Both were very good and pretty strong. Then we cleaned our palettes with their oysters, super refreshing lime and coconut foam on top. The wagyu makimono with crispy bonito flakes on top was one of our favorites. So flavorful and unique. Next we had sake nigiri which came pre-marinated with soy sauce so its ready to go. Our server let us know to eat it upside down so the fish touched your tongue first which is the correct way to eat sushi pieces. Our other favorite was the foie gras nigiri. It was so decadent and rich. The candied quinoa on top adds a bit of sweetness and crunch to the texture. The Walu Walu has a piece of cooked fish with a tangy sauce and citrus pieces to enhance the fish taste. The smoked salmon makimono with dill and creme fraise was so interesting, different but good. The hamachi nigiri has a nice kick with chili. The king trumpet mushrooms was surprisingly good! Sliced super thin in a ponzu sauce, it was very refreshing and tender. The salmon pear blueberries kale tasting was also very refreshing, light and fresh. The pork belly crispy rice is rich and savory. The chicken yakitori wasn't bad but I wouldn't order it again. The meat as a little dry and the sauce tasted like it was from a frozen dinner. The wagyu yakitori has fish sauce and we loved it but it may be an acquired taste for some people. Checked out the Happy Hour (HH) on a crazy Saturday spring break, which scared me away from future trips to Wynwood until April (it was just as crowded and unsafe covid-wise as SoBe! So many idiot tourists with no masks, and crowded-as-hell patios). Service from Luis was great, and here's what he brought us: SAPPORO (beer) at $4 a bottle in Wynwood - pretty great, and I'd come again just to be able to buy a bunch of food to go with several of these very cold lagers. OYSTERS - $2.50 each, good presentation with the coconut and lime foam, these were good enough to get twice, so we did. WALU WALU - $7 this was the only hot fish item we had, and with the candied yuzu, it was quite good. I'd get this again instead of the wagyu skewers (below) on a future visit. FOIE GRAS GUNKAN - tasty bites, but given the size and price ($10), I'd think hard about ordering this one again - it's more of a novelty I think. WAGYU SKEWER - at $8, this is not a bad one to try if you want to diversify from fish, but I didn't find it very typical of Wagyu at all, as the meat was a little tough (like sirloin). This was the one item I wouldn't order again. SAKE NIGIRI - $5 like the scallops, these were oh-so-small but delicious. If you order, get 4, because a single order of 2 is just a tease. HAMA CHILI - for $9, a decent amount of fish, and I'd get it again. WAGU MAKIMONO - $10, this was a must-get again for me: inventive and unique item, the best way to get some meat into the lineup. KINOKU USUZU - $6, these trumpet mushrooms were very good, and though I was on the fence when we chose it, I'd def get again. NAMA HOTATE - $8, I hadn't seen on prior menu posts on Yelp, so I had to ask what it was. Answer: Scallops! Love 'em, and no exception here: super fresh and delicious, but oh so small. At $4/pc, I'd have to think about re-ordering, but my wife would probably insist. SMOKED SAKE SALMON MAKIMONO - $6 for a nice big roll, where some kind of 'bagel-like' substance is substituted for the nori (seaweed), was a great deal, making it a must-try, even though it won't be for everyone. All of the above, with tax and 3 drinks each came to just over $120, about $150 with tip, which is a decent deal for a (very early) night out - HH is from 5-6:30pm. read more

So this is a tricky one, because Uchi is easily my wife and mine's favorite destination for a dinner night out, and have been probably 5-6 times over the last 12-15 months. Each time, the food is amazing, super high quality, amazing flavor and portioned and seasoned to perfection - really a culinary experience. In conjunction with the food, the service is usually impeccable to match - always very attentive, make great recommendations, are cognizant of and verbally acknowledge any allergies. Last night, however, we had a server that we have never had, who apparently has been working there since open -- which was in 2021. He was personable and friendly enough, but the charm was definitely overshadowed by the lack of attention to detail. He didn't write down any of our orders, and sure enough, 1 of the 6 dishes didn't make it out, with a second only making it out after we explicitly requested it be checked on (20 mins later). When we asked about the dish, he gave us a snarky answer along the lines of "but you have all this other great fish on the table already", or something along those lines. What really stood out, is how attentive the other servers were on our table to pick up the slack where he was lacking - cleaning empty plates/glasses, etc., and literally identifying him just not doing his job and subsequently doing it FOR HIM - which speaks to the high quality and caliber of the staff (excluding our waiter last night) All in all, Food: 10/10 - amazing Ambience: 9.5/10 - amazing Wait service: 4/10 - pretty poor read more

All we ordered were our drinks. He handled the food like a G! Dish after dish more delicious than the last. Here's where it gets interesting, I have the most picky fiancé EVER. So hard to get this man to try new things meanwhile here I am - with a thirst for adventure when it comes to visiting a new restaurant. I always go with the employee's recommendation because who better than them that spend most of their days at this location and have probably tried every single dish there is to try - to tell me what I might or might not like?! I always seek out their recommendations or suggestions and I hope that they won't steer me wrong. Shane managed to blow my fiancé's mind away with every single pick. I KID YOU NOT. He turned this man into a believer! For some dishes, we couldn't even pronounce the ingredients so we resorted to Google to basically explain WTF each thing was lol but Shane being as awesome as he is, saw that our struggle was very much REAL and came through to save the day. I've been back several times since my initial review but managed to go twice in a matter of 10 days over the holidays and the last experience was rather interesting. This used to be one of my favorite places in Wynwood as it's usually consistent with food and service. Also thought their happy hour menu was so good but they've changed their HH menu and for the sushi rolls, it's only hand rolls now. We ordered quite a few items from the regular menu along with the hand rolls from the HH menu, the yellowtail hand roll was so good, we ordered more when we went on Weds and enjoyed the HH sake but kept it kind of light since we were going to a meditation sound bath after. However I booked on the following Friday which was right before New Year's Eve Eve to take a friend for her milestone birthday and were told no happy hour, which was disappointing. Guess that's on me as I should have rechecked when booking especially during the holidays. We ordered the Konteki Pearls sake bottle, spicy crunch tuna roll, Paloma crudo (mezcal infused), 1/2 karaage (nice to know they offered that option to order half of a portion), zero sen and the star of our evening had to be kinoko nabe (wild mushroom stone pot). It was so flavorful that when the table next to us ordered it, we asked what was that as it smelled divine and it was! However our waitress brought us a dish that we did not order even though when they brought out the stone pot just before, she said it was our last dish. For the dish they brought out after, she reluctantly took it back as we reminded her since it had passion fruit, we did not order when she was trying to recommend it but then when the bill came, it was still in the bill, perhaps a mistake which she fixed but must say out of all the times I've been to Uchi, the service warrants the gratuity however in this case, it was questionable. Perhaps the holidays, perhaps an honest oversight, but we both felt she was borderline rude as she never even refilled our sake. This used to be a spot that was dependent for food and service, but that last experience should merit 3 stars but since the experience earlier in the prior week was pretty good, it averaged out. read more

We went for our anniversary dinner and they welcomed us super nice, staff were very nice and service was great. We asked the server to build a tasting menu for us and he send us amazing dishes. Everything was absolutely delicious and well executed. A little on the pricey side but definitely don't mind paying good money when quality is great. Definitely will come back. Added to my list of favorites restaurants in Miami. read more
