Having been here before and had a great time, this trip was so lacklustre and disappointing in comparison! We were a table of four around 4:30-5pm (early dinner after a long travel day). The restaurant was quite empty, maybe two other tables that already ordered and were finishing up their meals. Three of the servers were simply chatting at the bar area and it was so hard to catch their attention to place our order. We waited for them to come over 15-20 minutes and when we did catch their eyes, there was no acknowledgement. Are you going to come to our table? And the answer was not because they went to our adjacent table instead to bring them the machine to pay. The kitchen staff saw us trying to flag the servers and didn't do much either. They were just watching us. Another staff was at the table counters packing takeout orders, kinda saw us trying to get someone's attention and then just went back to using their phone. We were looking for dinner on a Sunday evening near the Downtown Miami/Midtown area and saw Ichimi come up in my search results and food and reviews looked really good and we wanted to check it out! Ichimi is located in the Shops at Midtown Miami (near the Homegoods). I would recommend parking in the Shops at Midtown Garage (near Target), take the elevator down and you're about a block or two from Ichimi. When you enter Ichimi you are greeted by a server and shown to your table, we didn't have to wait for a table but we also arrived around 7 PM and it started getting a little busier the longer we were there. We ordered a bottle of wine to start for $32. The bottles of wine weren't any more than $45. They also had non-alcoholic drink options along with beer and sake. For appetizers, we ordered edamame ($8.50) and Gyoza ($9.95). All appetizers came up really quick and were fresh and flavorful, and plenty for two people to share. For entrees, we ordered the Ichimi Ramen with Pork ($16.50) and the ramen was very flavorful and fresh and a really great quality! I went to Ichimi two days ago, and as always, the place didn't disappoint. The food was great, the service was excellent--just like every other visit. What really surprised me this time was their new dessert: wicked ice cream--fried chicken ice cream. When I first heard the name, I immediately said no. I was already full from ramen and sake, and honestly, "fried chicken ice cream" didn't sound appealing at all. But the waiter explained that it's ice cream, not real fried chicken, so I decided to take a risk and try it. OMG. It actually looks like fried chicken--complete with a "bone" (stick), crispy "skin" made from cereal-like coating, and everything. It's wild. You really have to try it yourself to believe it. The menu is pretty straightforward but there's a lot of options to customize your ramen if you want to make changes. I chose to start with the wakame which was fresh and delicious. The spicy miso ramen was excellent. It was more of the spice flavor than actually spice but good nonetheless. I probably would try a different protein than the wontons next time but they were still good. I thought that the broth overall had less of a salty flavor than other ramen places without losing a rich flavor. The portion size was perfect. I feel like the meat could've been more tender to retain some of that natural moisture, but I was so hungry I ate and enjoyed. The service is good - patient, knowledgeable staff. Unfortunately, 3 stars because we saw a mouse as we were eating and decided it was time to leave. Mind you, they are doing some construction in the space so perhaps it came through the door when it was propped open, but no one wants to see that while they're eating. Ichimi ramen = boiled milk with ramen packet seasoning. I live in California and have high expectations for ramen since we do have great ramen on the West Coast. When visiting family in Miami, I knew I'd need to adjust those expectations, but this still caught me off guard. From the very first bite, I could clearly taste dairy, and the smell was noticeably pungent. I asked the server about it and was told that the ramen broth is made with half and half. I will say there was way too much oil in the black garlic Ramen. It was like getting spoonfuls of the garlic, even if we mixed it so I went ahead And grabbed paper and dipped it into absorb the oil cause it was just way too much my tonkotsu was just perfect. I like that. Their noodles are thin and they give a lot of noodles. Everything was fresh and delicious.
