I've had some great experiences at Uchi. Located in wynnwood, this Japanese restaurant is located in a very walkable neighborhood known for street art. Parking can be a pain, so I'd recommend a ride share if possible. Inside has an elevated, intimate design. Out server was exceptionally friendly and professional. Explained the menu well and worked with us on allergies. The food quality is outstanding. They always have a rotating menu of seasonal fish and if you can make their happy hour, it's a can't miss. Personally I find the HH omakase for two a great deal, with the amount and quality of food you receive. I personally loved the hand roll and sushi the most. The oysters were also flavored extremely well. I wasn't such a fan of the cooked fish that was kind of bony when it came out. Otherwise I enjoyed everything else. I'd happily return again. Prices can add up fast, but if you can make happy hour, I think it's a great deal.
Their lunch special is no joke. $25 for an app, main, and dessert of this caliber is such an amazing value!! My lunch buddy and I each ordered the prix fixe which we both split, and all the bites were incredible. They had really great drink prices too, with $5 glasses of sake. The apps we got were the hama chili and sake toro crudo. Both delicious with quality fish, but we both agreed the hama chili was the winner! Mains, we chose the walu walu and the burger. Two very different dishes making it hard to compare, but both excellent. Burger meat was cooked perfectly and paired well with the accompaniments on it. Fries delightfully crispy! The coconut Sorbet we ended with was refreshing yet not too coconutty. Service was friendly and efficient and the space was very sleek and quite busy for a weekday.
Came to try the Happy Hour Omakase - the nine-course tasting for two. Here's what we got: *Mango blueberry juice - palette opener *Tomato sunomono heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, tofu puree *Banh mi hand roll - atlantic salmon, nuoc mam, vietnamese herbs *Crab cake curry - fermented coconut crab curry, blue lump crab cake, green cabbage *Kanpachi nigiri- amberjack *Hiramasa nigiri - greater amberjack *Hamachi - yellowtail with orange slices in a delicious sauce (maybe ponzu) * Pork belly with japanese pumpkin, shallots, sweet pepper gastrique *Sorbet sundae - paprika charred pineapple, pineapple sorbet, coconut cream, passion fruit caramel We added a Wagyu ringo (Australian coulotte with smoked apple), which was so tough that it was difficult to tear with my teeth. It definitely wasn't tender. Our server, Melissa, surprised us by removing it from our bill. Don't get it. It looks good but it's tough. My husband had a "Raba" to drink, which he loved! It's non-alcoholic and had passion fruit, ginger and soda. He said it was delicious! Overall, I was glad that I got to try the omakase but I was glad that we didn't pay full price.
Gorgeous inside, happy hour from 5-6:30. Great service, yummy food, but small portions and pretty pricey. Came here for HH and it was close to $100 per person with two drinks, some bites, and tip. That said, the inside beautiful, it's a good spot to catch up, and the quality of fish was there. It does fill up (even at the bar), so definitely have a reservation. Drinks were stellar! Didn't take pictures of our entire meal, but we got around 6 different food options cold and hot, and were a comfortable full when we left.
I've been here multiple times and it never misses. The space is modern, calm, and dimly lit, perfect for date night, but also an excellent option for business dinners or bringing clients, especially since they offer private dining. There's plenty of seating, though I recommend you make a reservation due to how popular it is. Everything I've tried has been incredible, but my absolute favorite is the kinoko: melt-in-your-mouth, rich, and buttery king trumpet mushroom in the best way. Other standouts include the hot rock wagyu beef, Hama chili, sake toro crudo, madai crudo, Walu Walu, and honestly all of the rolls. It's one of those menus where ordering broadly is rewarded, there isn't a weak dish. Consistently excellent food and a spot I'll keep coming back to.

Stopped into Uchi for dinner because a friend recommended and I loved the interior. Here's a bit more about my experience. P.S, my rating would be 3.5 stars if Yelp offered half points. Reservations-- it's a pretty small restaurant so if you're going with a large group be sure to book a spot online as soon as you can. We booked at 1 pm for a 8 pm reservation for 3 with ease. Service- our table was available as soon as we arrived. Our server was knowledgeable and took us through the menu. The only thing that I wish they did was either mention what kind of sauce came with the sushi on the menu or at least when they bring you the dish. I was so curious every time I got a roll and it was a mystery. Al's side note, they only do soy sauce by request. Aesthetics-- they definitely have it going on when it comes to the design inside of Uchi. The decor was beautiful and very moody --perfect for a date. The menus were beautiful and appear to change periodically because it had a date on it. They played some of my favorite songs at the end of the night including Odeal and Doechii Food--- overall I would give the food a 3/5. I'm not a sushi snob but I've definitely had rolls that have blown me away. Uchi was not that for me unfortunately. My favorite dish was the yellowtail roll and their medium fatty bluefin tuna. After that I would say the spicy tuna roll, Hama chili and then their salmon nigiri. All pretty standard but plated really nicely. I was not a fan of the edamame. They char it and add lemon to it that in my opinion over powers the flavor. I would recommend going if it's date night but I'm sure there's better sushi spots in Miami
Another magical night at Uchi. This time we tried the omakase on the happy hour menu. It was an amazing experience from start to finish. Each dish was better than the next. The last main dish we were served was a roasted yellowtail to share. Truly, the best meal I've had in a long time. It was lovely in its simplicity and tenderness. And as always the service bar side was top tier.
Stopped by Uchi with some coworkers before a dinner reservation and was pleasantly surprised. Their happy hour has some really nice bite and drink options.. perfect for a pre dinner hangout. We sat at the bar and tried the Wagyu croquettes, which were delicious ..crispy, rich, and packed with flavor. The service was excellent. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. I had both the Guava Rita and the Saketini, and both were really well-balanced and refreshing. Overall, it's a great spot for a classy happy hour with solid drinks and their tasting and dinner menu looks even better , can't wait to come back
Went to he lunar festival in downtown this weekend and got to try some amazing asian food, at the uni tent I had the pleasure of trying there chicken yakatori skewers and their lettuce beef cups and it's making me want to go to their brick and mortar to try out all the other fantastic dishes they have to offer. You can tell they try and find the highest quality ingredients and they put great detail into each dish.
This place does not stop surprising me (in a good way). From their quality of their food, the excellent service, to their elegant curated space. Diego was attentive, knowledgeable, and just plain fun. Thank you for the rosé recommendation, I was impressed. We continue to return because the quality of the food, the thoughtfulness behind the menu, the service, and the amazing wine/sake selection are unparalleled. I understand the popularity of the hand rolls, but yesterday I decided to give the mushroom crispy rice a try, and wow. The mushrooms were fresh and delicious, the rice perfectly seasoned and crispy (as expected), an explosion of flavor. I also want to give a shoutout to whomever is in charge of the wine selection. I have a soft spot for their brute rosé, but I noticed they added a new Spanish rosé to the menu, which was recommended by Diego, and I was so glad he did. There are truly no bad wines here, on the contrary, excellence and flavor. I also want to give a shoutout to whomever is training/managing staff/servers, you are doing it right! There is a uniform professionalism across the floor that is hard to find in Miami. A good combination of relaxed/homie, but also professional and knowledgeable . Needless to say we will continue to go back, keep up the good work, team.
Wow. From the over the top service. With a laid back attitude. Great tasting dishes with the only ask I'd have is for less salt. In everything. It was the meal to kick off my birthday week/month/year celebration. The size of the dishes were perfect for two people that don't eat a lot. If ur a big eater. Plan on ordering 3-4 plates per person. I had to order a few pieces of sushi. Very fresh and light. Delicious. The best shishito peepers I have had. Pumpkin tempura is also very airy for a fried food. The mackerel was cooked perfectly with a great sauce on it. Just to salty. Like I mentioned. Entrustin everything was. We took home the ice cream dessert. Spectacular at 2am.
Uchi is an experience to say the least. It is absolutely a must try. Our server greeted us and explained the concept and gave us great food and drink recommendations. While waiting for our first round of dishes, we were given a complimentary uchi salad which was fantastic! It was little handheld lettuce wraps in this nutty sauce that was absolutely divine and something I never would've ordered myself but I'm so glad we got to try it. Everything we had was fantastic. Probably the best happy hour in Miami but you have to get her early. There's a line before they even open at 5pm. As soon as we walked, the modern clean design really impressed us. We got seated in a booth at first but another friend joined us later on and the host didn't even hesitate to sit us at a bigger table. That's service. We basically ordered everything from the happy hour menu..lol. We got everything from the Makimono, Nigiri, and the Tastings menu. My favs were the hamachi chili, sake, yokai berry, wagyu yakitori, and the walu walu. They used to have these oysters with coconut foam on top but they're not on the menu anymore. Ther were so freaking good. Please bring them back! Just keep in mind, the portions are small here but of high quality. Also, as I mentioned before, the service is outstanding. No wonder they're always booked. I can wait to go back for an actual dinner experience or the omakase. read more
I hate to say this but Uchi was simply underwhelming. There was no wow factor from the service, food, bar, drinks or even the interior design of the restaurant. Truly average at best and for the cost it's disappointing. The most remarkable dishes were probably the foie gras and hot pot with short rib. The Hama chili and Akami crudo are apparently fan favorites, had all kinds of flavor yet still lackluster. The half dozen oysters had a sweetener with Thai basil that was overpowering. Soft shell crab roll was highly recommended and truly just a bad roll overall accompanied with a sauce that didn't compliment the dish. The walu walu was decent. Very similar to Chilean sea bass. Even the famous gyutoro (72 hr short rib) was underwhelming. The staff didn't do as much as I anticipated when it came to educating us on the menu or adding to the experience. It was very transactional and generic, stopping by every 5-10 min saying "hi how is everything" as if you're at a diner. I was looking forward to this experience and after over a dozen dishes I can't say I'm a fan. read more

Uchi is one of my favorite sushi restaurants of all time. Uchi is a family style shared plate type restaurant making it easy to try a lot of different items and get a taste for everything. From the atmosphere to the menu to the chefs I would give it 6 stars if I could. We have always had amazing wait staff here as well who are very knowledgeable about the menu and different fish if you are unsure of what to order. My personal favorite is the Gyutoro it literally melts in your mouth!! I usually get a few orders of this just for me! read more

I was looking for a new Happy Hour and this popped up and I REGRET NOTHING !! I made a reservation for 5pm, which is when they open. Highly recommend that you make a reservation. When I arrived there were people already waiting for them to open. Also, you entire party needs to be there to be seated. The decor is beautiful, clean and well decorated. It's a pretty large space but gets packed quick. Our server was so nice and knowledgeable and recommended a lot of items for us to try. Now the food.. 10/10. I only have 1 thing that was just okay and that was the chicken skewers. Other than that, everything was delicious. I love that they have sauces for a lot of the dishes. If you're willing to spend this money on food, this place is for you. We came for happy hour which is a good time to try bite size items for a reasonable price. Everything was excellent. Chicken yakitori the least as it was fatty chicken and the bartender pulled the plate before we were finished. Mushroom sashimi was yum. Best was the salmon berry and the 2 desserts on the menu. More cocktails on the happy hour would be great too and I'd like alcohol in them because they did not have any or maybe 2 drops. I guess happy hour price means they remove the alcohol in it too. Highlighs : * High End creative Sushi and Japanese inspired fusion gems * Clean, modern unpretentious bar, sushi counter and regular seating * Impeccable service with well trained staff * Expensive but great bargain for huge happy hour menu * Award winning Chef founder owner Tyson Cole worked his way from dishwasher to head Sushi Chef in Austin, tutoring under Sushi Master Takehiko Fuse and later working at Bond Street in New York before returning to Austin. He accumulated recognition from James Beard and Food & Wine Magazine and even competed with Iron Chef Morimoto on Food Network. Although I'm not sure how often he's in the Miami location he's built a staff that is first rate. Paul Qui was a student of Tyson's and Paul of course has Pao at Faena, which is a top Miami Beach establishment. Uchi is right across the street from KYU. For our first visit we sat at the sushi counter and created a 14 course tasting from the reasonably priced HH menu, along with some things from the regular menu. As a Krug fan we could not pass up the HH special, $99 for a half bottle of Krug with 6 oysters, about half the regular price and close to retail. The oysters are served with a delicious green tomato and basil topping. We had to have another dozen after that. I think they were Sweet Petites from PEI that evening. I won't bore you with all of the 14 or so dishes we had, they were all outstanding, hamachi, akami, tuna loin, salmon, wagyu, escalar. Some of the to die for dishes were the foie gras gunkan, wagyu yakitori and the halibut from the regular dinner menu. The halibut is served with romanesco, shiitake, toasted hazelnuts and coconut beurre blanc. The crispy rice with pork belly is not like a typical crispy rice you see everywhere, it's served more like a thin pancake, or the socarrat of paella, nice dish. For a light dessert I would recommend the Jasmine Cream: cilantro granita, pineapple and honey truffle. In addition to a la carte there is a Chef's Tasting, Omakase and vegetarian tasting options. The beverage list includes 10 signature cocktails, 10 beers, 26 sakes, 12 Champagnes and sparkling wines, 23 white wines including Kistler, Peter Michael, Latour Chassagne Montrachet, 24 Red wines including Beaux Freres, Kosta Browne, Gaja and Bond, several roses, dessert wines and a large spirits list. Easily one of my favorite places to eat at in Miami. The ambiance and decor is absolutely beautiful and complimented with dim lighting and wonderful accents. The food is really worth every penny. They do an incredible job at pairing something fruity with something savory. Their oysters change often with their toppings and i've had the opportunity of trying them three different times, each different and WOW every single time! Their hama chili is one of my favorites and i get it each and every time. I usually get the hot rock due to its unbelievable tenderness and overall just fun experience. Their halibut is also exceptional. The karaage chicken is always a good go to and never disappoints. I've tried for sashimi the yellowtail, salmon belly and scallop and all were consistently fresh. They have this one dessert that is truly something else. Called "fried milk" and it's just that. It's served with vanilla custard and a salted fudge and the way the warm essence of the fried milk melts in with the cold custard and fudge is truly something else. The parking is all street parking since i'm wynwood but the block has a ton of it unless you go on a weekend. The service is equally as incredible as everything in both the bar and table services. Everyone is such a good guide along with being passionate about what their serving. Fantastic place and truly can't wait to indulge in it again! read more

We came here for happy hour. The price was great for food and cocktails. The cocktails were fun! Even the mocktail for children taste good. The food is Japanese fusion style and we can feel how dedicated the chef put in his effort to create these dishes. Some dishes came with rich seasoning and flavors that brought our taste buds a new experience. My fiancé and I had been wanting to try Uchi for a very long time, we finally decided to try it to celebrate a birthday and the only reservation available was 10:45 pm so it does definitely fill up quickly, make your reservations in advance. When we arrived our wait Chad was very accommodating and welcoming as the menu can be a bit confusing. We were contemplating on doing the omakase but our waiter also gave us the options to bring on the most popular dishes (which was very helpful and we were able to try so many things including hot/cold dishes). Overall, the food was incredible, the flavors were jumping off your tongue. The atmosphere was great and the service was thoughtful. The hama chili which is a popular dish lived up to its hype just as their infamous fried milk desert. Will be coming back soon with friends & family. My favorite restaurant in Miami! So far it's my favorite sushi restaurant EVER. The quality of the food, the art of flavors and textures! I feel at home every single time I step into uchi! The staff is absolutely amazing & inviting. My first time at uchi was extraordinary, it was just a few months after their opening and jay truly gave us an experience. We gave him a budget & he introduced us to dishes we fell in love with! We did not regret trusting him with our dinner not one bit! From the best cocktail suggestion being subarashi (which is my fav cocktail thus far) to creating a sick addiction for their gyutoro, let's not forget their Hama chili. This place is amazing. I loved everything about it. The location is in Wynwood, it has street parking. I tried to make a reservation but I was not able to. However, I showed up right at 5 and stood at the door right when they opened. There was a crowd of people waiting. I was aiming for a seat at the bar but good news I was able to get a table. The restaurant is super clean and the service was awesome. Our waitress was super nice and she gave us great suggestions. I didn't even know that it was happy hour but it was awesome that it was. They have a separate happy hour menu. We ordered one of everything on the menu but everything was incredible. I think that the only thing that I probably would not order again would be the crispy rice. The oysters were to die for I loved the little kick of spice in them and the carpaccio and the ceviche were also a favorite. The drinks were also amazing. I got the spicy tequila drink and It was delicious. Overall, fantastic place for a happy hour. read more

I heard about this Japanese restaurant while ago & wanted to try for a while. I showed up without reservation & I thought I will not get in. When I got in welcomed me & accommodated me for table. They were all friendly & have will to assist even you are not assigned to particular table. I wanted to start with oysters & waiter was knowledgeable to explain what they had. Also ordered couple other items to start with. Oysters never arrived & asked them & they finally brought to me. It was fresh & succulent! Had some of sashimi it was nice but bit dry. Could be more fresher. I kept order some of the light items & they were great. I was impressed with service & food, presentation. It was busy place so noise were there but not too loud. Love Uchi! Sat at the bar with a gf catching up on life. Ordered a few items off of HH. $8 vinho verde - Amazing! Light & refreshing! I even took a picture of the bottle it was so yummy! $12 akami makimono - (tuna cut roll) so delicious we ordered a second one. $11 Chicken Yaki - (2 skewers) must order especially if you're not too big into raw fish. & a few other item that were also good but not my fave.. Then we we're lucky enough to have a few dishes sent to us gratis! $22.5 Madai Crudo - This was the STAR of the meal! Mind blown. Period. That's my review. Visited Uchi Austin in 2018, which left such a memorable impression on me that I was so giddy when I heard this location opened. FINALLY was able to get a reservation and boy did it not disappoint. 1. Such a pleasant experience from arrival to departure. Thank God there's ONE restaurant in Miami where the hostess doesn't need to have an attitude or some undeserved God complex wielding the mighty power of control. Honestly over that. So elated we were helped by Dorothy. She couldn't have been nicer, more helpful nor more adorable. Made our night and was so thoughtful in some choices for us. 2. Great vibe/ambience. 3. Still don't understand why it has been so difficult to get a resy. Half of the restaurant was empty, which was surprising even on a Sunday night. 4. No words for the food. Everything is delicious, fresh and amazing. Favorites: *uchi g&t - I'm a gin girl so this was delish. I opted for soda on the 2nd round instead of tonic. I like the touch of yuzu. *edamame - grilled to perfection. Completely spoiled me and I can never eat them steamed, again *hama chili - perfect balance of spice and sweet/tart with yellowtail *kinoko nabe - don't sleep on this rice/mushroom amazing dish *cauliflower - out of this world. Sauce is epic *all of the sushi (nigiri) was fresh and delicious. Happy they had all versions of toro. *do NOT miss Gyutoro. Looks weird that it's on the sushi side but 72-hr short rib is a MUST HAVE *DESSERT - couldn't decide so we had the banana cake & the fried milk. I'm not a huge dessert person but I'd come back just for those. Eat the little fried donuts first with the fried milk - pop of flavor. The caramel with the banana cake should be bottled up! The Miami location is just as delicious as the Houston location, which I have frequented many times. This restaurant takes the same level of care matching each dish with a unique sauce depending on what the chef feels will complement the dish best. Expect more surprising mixtures of flavors in your rolls , and less cream cheese and california rolls . The servers are all very attentive and do a great job of explaining the dishes to you. They have a happy hour, which is great! But the restaurant is packed at all hours, so be sure to make a reservation, whether it is rain or shine. read more

Wow, just wow! Uchi is the food experience I have been waiting for in Miami. The ambiance/decor (classy and yet casual), the service (out of this world attentive & informative), and the food (creative, whimsical, freshest of the fresh) all are top notch. If you feel like splurging on a baller meal where you feel like the money was well worth the food & experience, I highly recommend the chef's tasting menu. 10 courses selected to take you on an amazing culinary journey. had a lil pre-bday dinner at uchi last week. such an amazing omakase experience-- we opted to sit at the bar because we initially expected to grab a few bites but were convinced the omakase would be the perfect bday experience. there were 10 courses included in the omakase but we somehow left with about 15 courses. the team behind the counter was so gracious and made our evening unforgettable. i've only been to uchi one time before this and i know i'll be back soon (especially for happy hour) -- also i wish i could say what was my favorite dish but tbh every dish that came out was a hit. read more

Long time Uchi fan! Happy to see one of my favorite sushi restos open a Miami location. Uchi in Wynwood provided exceptional service and truly was a remarkable culinary experience. The sashimi was fresh and beautifully presented, showcasing the chef's attention to detail. Honestly, I don't even know where to begin. I've had this review pending for some time because I don't think I even have the proper words to describe the exceptional dining experience UCHI has provided me time and time again! At this point, I've been to UCHI 5 times and I have no plans of slowing down. Each time I do my best to try something new from their perfectly curated menu. For starters, the restaurant is beautiful, and dimly lit, with a lingering aroma of the food spilling out from the open kitchen and lovely playlists which help tie the entire space together. The first time has to be the most memorable because it's the first time I was left absolutely speechless after a dining experience. I sat with a group of 5 people that haven't eaten raw food before and were ready to expand their horizons. Little did we know the immense flavors we were about to indulge in. Luckily our menu was curated by an extraordinary server by the name of Ziggy. She ordered an array of cold and hot items for us to enjoy. After each bite, our jaws practically hit the table. She described each dish with the utmost professionalism, enthusiasm, and attention to every detail. She gave us suggestions on how to eat the items, and what they paired well with. She recommended we try the subarashi cocktail and they were so good we kept those coming for the rest of the evening. Finally, the time for dessert arrived which Ziggy picked for us and explained the flavor palate. We had the fried milk ... *moment of silence* NOW THAT'S A DESSERT RIGHT THERE! My goodness, it was nothing short of an explosion of deliciousness! Hands down the best dessert I've had in ages. WE LOVED IT! If my body had allowed me I would have eaten every single thing again and again. Everyone at UCHI was so nice and super attentive. I checked out Uchi 2 months ago and am so happy they are up and running fully now! With their eclectic cuisine and chill vibe, this new Wynwood hot spot is perfect for any date night. Although the food was fire, the standout was the exceptional service. Our waiter knew the menu really well and was able to give proper suggestions, which is rare for a new restaurant. My favorite part of the meal was the waygu beef and banana cake. The tenderness and flavor of the waygu is something that I dream about. For the banana cake, this was a waiter suggestion. Just to let everyone know: I HATE bananas. But this cake was the exception. Warm, flavorful, moist and complemented perfectly with the white chocolate ice cream.
