I was expecting a custom made bookshelf to be delivered & had the day scheduled with my six hour window! Doorbell rings & I'm so excited to see this bookshelf that I've been waiting eight weeks for so I follow the man to the back of the truck, then I look SMH.... Not again! This is a different shipping company yet I'm having to go through the same scenario, my bookshelf is attached to a pallet still.....are you kidding me! Do these companies not have yards that they can break down these pallets in, I've never heard of such a thing! I asked the man why is he not removing the pallet, he said it gets delivered with the product! OMG, at this point I've already lost an activity table from a previous shipping company & I refused to lose this bookshelf because these companies are too cheap that they think it's the customers responsibilities to break down the pallets! I was just going to curse this man & the company under my breath to get my beautiful blue bookshelf out of his truck! I am just beyond myself, how is it that a company like FedEx, UPS or DHL wouldn't dare deliver you a package that's attached to a pallet yet with these companies the CEO's think that this is how they should be doing business! No company was close. Overall the service and quality was great. I would rethink so of the stuff I moved if I had to do it again. Ok changed my mind they get 5 stars. U-pack was a great value. We opted to do the service center to service center option. Our move was from Phoenix,AZ to Chicago,IL. I liked the flexibility of opting out of the pod being dropped in front of the property. Not every moving location will make it easy to have pod. I also like the cost savings of just renting a truck to grab your items from the service center. Our project cost just under $1700. This was money well spent. It was nice not driving across country in a moving truck. Booking U-pack was super easy. I ended up talking ton a representative because I need a weekend packing. They made this happen on Sunday for us. Closer to our pack date, I spoke to someone. Our card wasn't charged in advance. When our items arrived, we got a call from the freight yard. They were flexible in giving us 1 extra day since our pod arrived slightly earlier than anticipated. Everyone was thorough and friendly. The pod itself seemed small when we arrived. However we stuffed it to the top. Definitely review their best practices on their website. Most items arrived just as packed. So far we only see had one broken item but it was our own fault (left microwave plate inside microwave). We used a combination of boxes and totes. Some boxes were crushed but they only had clothes in there. Totes held up better than I thought but a few lids did crush. Bikes, safes and desk arrived unharmed. Grateful for this service and would use again if I have to relocate. Tip: plan how you want to pack and unload prior to arriving. Phoenix location had a dumpster and that was nice. Des Plaines had no dumpster. However Des Plaines provided safety vest. read more

Okay, so on whole this was a really good experience and I feel lucky to have found it. I would tell you that the U-Pack agents were very willing to go to work FOR you and it was kind of a no-bullsh#t experience. I don't think I ever got put on hold at the top of a call for the entire experience. The drivers were fantastic. VERY helpful getting the truck into place etc. The local dispatchers were very flexible and totally willing to work with us on delivery, pick up dates and times. So as I say, could not have asked for much more on that end hence the 5 star rating. Here are the iffy parts -- 1) The bulkheads in these trucks are beat to death and VERY unwieldy to try and manage and get put into place on your own once your pack is complete. I don't suggest it. Have the driver put it in place. 2) Their ramps absolutely suck. They are heavy and very awkward to move and set up. I'm sure they are great for dollying up boxes of french fries into Shake Shack, but horrible for rolling anything with small wheels etc. On the day of loading I had to go get plywood cut to fit the ramp just to get the heavier stuff that moved on small wheel dollies up the ramp. it was nearly a deal breaker for me. Steep too as the trucks are pretty high. 3) Lastly, this was just plain annoying; every time I called to arrange a truck pick up or dropoff, EVERY time -- they had our address wrong. I asked them to change it, and every time I called the address they had was still wrong. It un-nerved me at first, then it just got so ridiculous it became funny. So, in summary -- GREAT service overall. It requires that YOU be really good at packing trucks safely and securely. Get ready to buy an amount of E-Track rings and ratchet straps to secure your loads. It's not air ride trucks, so your stuff can take a whipping getting to your destination. We had only a very few mishaps though and frankly, they were my fault during packing. Pricing wise given that we had 4 full trucks worth of stuff, this worked out to be a good value. Something like PODs would have been a disaster for us financially. Good luck! read more

I've moved a lot and have typically used full service movers. This time we did a long distance move cross country and the pricing was very high, so decided to use a few relo cubes instead. My favorite part was the communication and ease to reach people. All the drivers were personable and great. The cubes arrived ahead of schedule which was a bonus. Overall I'd definitely recommend them. The initial set up for planning my move with U-Pack was super easy and fast! I also had to postpone my move date the day before the empty container was supposed to be dropped off but U-Pack moved all the dates out for me just after one phone call! The only times you have to be present at your home is for drop off of the container empty and when delivered to your new destination. They made everything super easy and was very communicative! The only thing I wished was that there would be some blankets and/or tie down rope provided in the container since some of my furniture did get a little scuffed and marked up from the inside floor and walls of the container, which is why I'm giving 4 stars but nothing was damaged and everything I tied down did not shift at all! If I could rate a 4.5 on here I would! Highly recommend U-pack!! Anyone out there curious to know the spacial dimensions and what can fit, I was able to fit a queen bed/mattress, full size dresser, nightstand, large bookcase, love seat, and about 10-15 boxes/containers in a 7' x 8', with space still open! I don't remember the name of the Gentleman spoke to to schedule my U-Pack. Let me say it was PERFECT for what I need. I loaded my mothers one bedroom apartment in one U-Pack. They delivered the U-Pack as scheduled. The driver put the U-Pack in a single parking space and took the time to ensure that I did not have any questions. Not a lot to go over but he open the unit up to show me it was clean and provided some advice on how to pack it. He was spot on with his advice also. The pick up went like clock work as well. Again the driver that came to pick up the unit explained on it would be shipped. My unite was delivered as scheduled and we got it unloaded with no problem. NOTHING was damaged. Everything was exactly as I Packed it. What a comforting feeling. The PRICE was half of the lowest estimate I got to hire a moving company. If you don't mind packing your belongings and have the time I would HIGHLY recommend using U-Pack. read more

Where to begin.... well we had thousands of dollars worth of damage that they decided was "normal for a move" but alas I will tell you what happened. We packed our stuff in excited to move to a new state and we made sure all our stuff was secure in the container. We get our stuff in Arizona and it's a different container than we packed and all of our stuff is damaged/written on. Who writes on someone's furniture!!!!!!???? We understand that some scratches happen while moving but this extent is ridiculous. If I could rate this company one star I would. Not to mention when bringing us our container they threw it around like trash and we complained to the desk person about it. So we filed a claim and waited quietly because we thought they would be any normal humans and realize they messed up and fixed it. But no they told us it was our fault and they aren't going to do anything for us. So here I am no longer being the nice guy and I'm voicing my opinion. The driver who dropped off Justin went above and beyond to make sure the trailer was in a safe place and even went into the storage facilities office and got a lock to keep the trailer locked until i arrived. I honestly can't thank him enough for making sure and keeping me updated that everything was secure and good to go. I couldn't have asked for better service from the beginning phone call to the cubes being picked up at my destination. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, the lady on the phone explained all the fees that would be due, the man who delivered my cubes was so nice, while he was there a closer parking spot became available so he moved one of the cubes to that spot, the man who picked up the cubes was very nice as well. Basically these are very nice people. A few of my items were broken when unpacked but I can't say that is U-Pack's fault. I hired movers to load and onload the cubes. -*Needless to say I highly recommend U-Pack.* I recommend when you pack your items use more than enough packing paper to cushion and protect your items. We locked them with our own lock and they came and picked them up and brought them to our new State. They put our 3 pods in storage for us and when we arrived at our new state nine months later we asked them to please bring them to our new house which they did. we unlock our own locks and we unloaded them, and then they came and picked them up the following day. All others that we received a quote from was very pricey. After contacting U-Pack and getting on the phone with someone who was able to accurately help us get the exact estimated quote for the amount of boxes/furniture as well as helping secure movers to help get the stuff into the truck. The thing I loved about U-Pack was how flexible they are with their quotes. You only pay for what you use in the truck provided. Our quote was for 12 feet and we ended up at 6 feet! We selected this company for our move from Orange County, CA to Phoenix, AZ. Moving companies are so pricey to begin with and some are out there to rip you off by asking how much your stuff weighs, or size of your rooms, garage, etc. This place does not do this - they literally help you select a size of trailer and or container and drop it off.... you have a couple days to load it and then they come pick it up and haul it away... a few days later it arrives at your place and you have a couple days to unload it. SIMPLE. COST EFFECTIVE. EASY. FAST. Seriously, it was such an easy process when moving in itself is already crazy and stressful. I lived in an apartment complex so I wanted to see if they pod would fit under my covered parking spot, it didn't.. so he moved it again. Pick up was super super quick. If I under or over calculated, I could more or less space without a penalty. This is a big selling point over other moving options. The truck arrived and dropped off the box trailer. Friends helped me pack as high as we could. Then I partitioned off my belongings. The pickup driver had to help and was very patient. My stuff made its way across the US transporting commercial goods in the remaining space. It all stays with the same company. My belongings arrives on time and I paid a company to help me unload. I was very impressed with the service amd business model. If you are looking for the most affordable yet flexible option, I highly recommend using u-pack.
