The place was packed. Should have known not to come on a Sunday. I literally had 2 items that I wanted to get, but to stand in a line of 20+ people, wasn't worth it to me. I'll come another day. I did come here in a mission though, and that was for a new luggage bag. I didn't want hard case, and I didn't want expandable. I just recently flown to California and to Maine, and on both trips, I saw people having to rearrange their bags to zip up the expandable part of their luggage, and that the hard cases don't fit in their luggage sizing at the gate. So I want something thin that has some wiggle room to flatten out. I saw only 2 that I liked and fit the sizing I liked, but they were still $80. I think I'll keep looking. I still have time before my next vacation. Since I was there I wanted to walk around and look at their holiday decor. They do have some cute things for wall, and for Halloween. But for me. I'm done decorating for the seasons and holidays. But still like to look at them. read more

Worst customer service experience in years. I entered the store with a defective suitcase. There was a huge line. So before wasting my time, I asked an associate if I could return a carry on suitcase that had not worked (defective rollers) on the one trip this month it had been used on. She said yes. I waited in line 25 min only to have an unfriendly manager tell me I couldn't return it or even exchange it because it had been used and was scuffed from its one airline trip. I travel once a month. My last carry-on with roller lasted 13 years! No scuffs, btw. This one was junk, even if a Samsonite. This experience is exactly why I shop Amazon. Easy return system. I'll never shop at a TJ Maxx again. Certainly not the one in Great Hills! Terrible service. The manager wasn't even polite, just rude about it. Been going here for years. The selection is pretty good and the store is teaming with stuff and it could feel claustrophobic to some. Even in the middle of the afternoon the lines here are long. Still I find the housewares here to be better than most discount stores. Plus this is right in the arboretum so it's easy to get to. As for clothes they are decent but if you want name brands head over to Nordstrom Rack. read more

The tjmax store and "manager C" on Great Hills Dr. in Austin TX are a poor example of how a successful attractive store should be run. The store looks like a trashed garage sale and the manager has zero customer service skills resorting to threatening the customers who present her with product or return complaints and questions. Maxx store at 9828 Great Hills Trail in Austin, TX.This woman was unnecessarily rude about accepting an item that arrived damaged. No need to be so combative to customers. Note: T. J. I usually love TJ. My friend and I go there all the time before hitting a movie. I spend time going through racks and racks, trying on clothes and then low and behold someone takes them from my cart. My friend thought I was crazy until she witnessed it last night. This has happened on numerous occasions. At the Lakeline location, I literally chased the girl down after I watched her take something from my cart. She told me she didn't speak English and handed it back to me. Has this happened to anyone else? Also the woman who runs the dressing room is very rude. She acts like she's doing you a favor. And the bathrooms are always gross. TJ Maxx just gets me. The cool thing about it is that they have items for people trying to keep in any price range - from the Michael Kors to the non-name brand stuff. It's such a GREAT place to shop. The people that work there aren't overbearing and everything is pretty organized every time I go. This store doesn't have a good selection of clothing. They don't have any formal dresses for this time of year or skirts. The clothes they do have are so jammed packed on the rack it's hard to select items to look at. The store could use some tidying up. Nafi in the fitting room provided zero customer service. She didn't even acknowledge me as I handed her my four items. When I returned the items to her she didn't part her lips. The lady on the floor was so busy putting clothes back on the floor she didn't hear/see me trying to get her attention for assistance. Not sure if I will return to this store. read more

Love the selection of clothes and shoes. Most are reasonably priced. I dislike that they always understaff (probably on purpose) the checkout. It can take 20+ minutes just to buy 1-2 items. Bought a pair of $450 leather Stuart Weitzman booties on clearance for $50. They were asking $199 before several clearance markdowns. This might be one of the worst TJ Maxx/Marshall's store in Austin. It left a bad taste in my mouth after witnessing a store associate casually mocking another associate who clearly doesn't speak English fluently. The elder associate thought she was being funny by asking me (a customer) if I understood the associate who doesn't speak English very well. This store also has a terrible selection of stuff. Stopped by here for my first visit after hitting up Nordstrom rack. Loved the shoe selection and actually found some nice shoes. I liked some of the clothes but didn't feel they had much of a discount for some of the clothes that were sold there. For 3 items bought, I spent almost $90. Where as when I went to Nordstrom I got 7 things for $100. I guess you just have to look carefully and you'll find bargains if you're close enough. I think Nordstrom Rack is cleaner and the layout is more beautiful but TJ Maxx still has a good selection but most of it I'm pretty picky over. I'll definitely price compare since I'm around this, NR, and Ross so I can afford to choose to shop for cheap! :) Oh! Also, while I was shopping I kept hearing a voice broadcast some number for the check out cashiers which scared me. After I got in line, I figured out that this was to let you know which cashier you could go to next to check out. Most disgusting TJ Maxx store I've ever been into. I'm 9 months pregnant, so right when I came in I had to use the restroom. Right outside the women's bathroom an employee was on his cell phone texting. Barely moved out the way for me to go into the bathroom. When I enter the bathroom there are 2 toilets - one that was filled to the top with poop / toilet paper and the other one was clogged with all toilet paper. It was NASTY. Now for the gross part. As I'm slowly making my way out of the store, I hear a woman coughing. Bad coughing. I then the aisle and notice it's an employee coughing. Everyone in the aisle was looking and you could tell she was embarrassed, but she just kept coughing. All while loading items onto the shelves. It was gross! read more

Today while browsing, I came across a bin of purses on the sales floor and took a look inside. I was interrupted by a woman who said rudely,"Yeah, you're not supposed to look through these," and proceeded to wheel the cart a few feet away. I apologized, thinking it might have been items on hold (?), and told her it was just sitting in the middle of the sales floor. She said with a scoff, "I know." I watched as the lady proceeded to take bags from the cart and hang them up, while stepping away several times to help people from behind the jewelry counter and even processing a return at the register. As she was away, she left the cart of purses in the middle of the bag aisle and there was clearly no sign or anything indicating that looking through the bin was off-limits. The heck? I understand now if the bin is a holding place for purses yet to be put on shelves, but it appalls me that I was reprimanded for looking through an unmarked bin in the middle of the sales floor that was periodically abandoned because she had to juggle other roles. It's not like I was taking dozens of bags and hoarding them all for myself, and it would have been different if the bin were off to the side and clearly marked as off-limits. The attitude present was NOT warranted and it was disappointing and felt discriminating to be talked down to in such a tone and with my mother, who was visiting town. I watched this lady interact with other customers more kindly, and it was sad to have my mom notice that she might have been discriminating. What an unfortunate situation to have someone who is terrible at customer service in this role and I'd hate for others to be treated poorly by this lady. Extremely unfortunate for this store and based on other reviews here, I hope that this is addressed with her because I'd prefer to avoid stores that tolerate that kind of employee service. read more

The dressing rooms are closed for months due to Covid, you would think at some point during this time they would clean the filthy floors but no. It looks like they haven't swept or mopped in years. You can't even remove your shoes it's so dirty. This store needs some serious attention. read more

Save you IRAs and 401ks, I'm putting all my money in shoes. That's right: shoes, and belts, and handbags. And this TJ Maxx helps me do all that and still actually save for retirement. I went to this location today to see if they had a pair of shoes in my size that I saw at the south location. No dice, but they did have several other options that were not at the south location and I ended up getting three new pairs of shoes. Shoe-score! In addition to a great shoe selection, this location has lots of belts, hats, and handbags. I can usually get a designer leather belt here for about 12 bones, which my grandmother, who taught me accessories can change a whole outfit, would totally approve of. And I love the selection of other accessories (tights, socks, scarves) and beauty items (hair stuff, makeup, face stuff). They also have a good selection of housewares and men's items. I have a hard time digging through the clothing racks but for everything else, this TJ is tops. read more

I stumbled onto this T.J. Maxx while shopping in the Arboretum area this weekend. It's not a huge store, but it was packed with deals! If you want some "7 for all Mankind" or "True Religion" jeans, you can get them here for about 1/2 of what you pay at regular stores. I found some work clothes from The Limited for $10-20, which is less than they ever go on sale for at that store. Granted, they aren't the most current season's style, but they aren't bad either. This store also had a particularly good selection of personal care items from The Gap, like body wash, lotion, and perfume. Typically, at a discount store, the packages are dinged up and the products look old, but these looked really good, and they were $1-4! Many TiGi hair products were also available. Small sized dresses and swimsuits were in short supply, but it was a weekend, and they probably have a better selection when the shipments first come in. I'm not a fan of purses, but this store did have a wide selection. Many of the bags were sort of expensive, but they were Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Dooney and Burke, and other respected names, so hopefully they are pretty durable and stylish. I'll definitely go back to this T.J. Maxx, but next time I'll try on a weekday in hopes that the stock will be a little better and the crowds a little smaller. read more

Nothing hurts my soul more than paying full price for clothes. I am spoiled to the absolute core by TJ Maxx. Why would I buy a dress "on sale" at a boutiqe for $120 when I could get a comparable dress that is flippin fantastic for life (FFFL) for $40? Example: TJM had a silk black Juicy dress (not a favored brand, fyi) for $50, originally priced something preposterous. The selection is awesome, and they even have a *clearance* section, where I once got a FFFL Free People shirt for $20. Now, the worst, least-flattering lighting you will ever see is proudly featured in their dressing rooms, but you know deep down if the dress is working or not. You know if it's not the lighting. You might bring in some tweezers though, because you can see every unwanted brow hair pretty clearly in here. More often than not, I will have to part with a few items after we've made flirty eyes at each other. I have to put my foot down and commit to what I am going home with. As I turn to look over my shoulder at the clothes I left on the rack, I think of what might have been. Then I remember: I'll be back next weekend, and console myself with all the future love connections there are to make. read more

I'll admit it--I do sometimes go to this place. And it is for one reason only, which is this: scarves. I love scarves and wear them all of the time. I have a largish collection that is continually in rotation because I actually wear scarves out--to hole-and-tatter status. I don't know anyone else who achieves this, though I know a lot of people who have scarves and don't wear them. I can do the scarf thing and the shawl thing. That whole tie it one of several different ways or drape it dramatically thing. I must have French karma because it has been this way ever since I can remember and no one ever taught me how to do it. The scarf is essential and I am nervous without it. It is just the way my world works. I have the mad scarf luck at this one shop. It is the only place in Austin a woman might find cool scarves other than the very occasional hit at Urban Outfitters. I am partial to the silk gauze and the Lurex varieties made in Italy and India. I have found both here. For whatever reason the $9 scarf and the $12 polyester crinkle shirt from TJ Maxx rock on me while the (insert three digits here) carefully orchestrated New York-ish outfit, handbag in crook of arm, from Austin Boutique XYZ looks like a terrible, criminal act of idiocy perpetuated by a fatuous satirist. 'My world is of fire, blood, and slim-fits'. Once I was a poor college student. A 'B-student' warrior, searching for a righteous deal. As the plentiful men's selections fell, we all became broken in some ways. There were only young boy outfits for school and older gentlemen outfits for home. Nothing in between but lonely and exhausted husbands forsaken to the bench. Maybe I'm going crazy, its hard to tell if its me or just this location. Being Father's Day Weekend, 'I am the one that runs both from the [last minute shoppers] and uninspiring restocks'. 'What else can they take from me'? Scavengers everywhere today...Be careful. I love this place! My work/career wardrobe needed a slight revamp and I almost went to a boutique to find what I needed. Then my wallet made me come to my senses and I decided to go to TJ Maxx instead. Don't expect your time here to be short, unless you have something specific in mind. In that case, good luck to ya... Going to this place is almost like thrift shopping, except that the stuff is nicer (and new) and is (for the most part anyways) sorted by style/article/size. I went in with no specifics in mind except for "work clothes." I grabbed a cart, cruised the isles, and threw about 30-40 items in. Because you can only try on 10 things at a time, I began with a strategy in mind. Step 1: I would first try everything on and take out anything that didn't fit right. Step 2: Sort my selections by color and then try them on as outfits. My plan worked perfectly. I walked out 2 1/2 hours later, having spent $180 on 2 pairs of pants, a skirt, 5 tops and 2 knit cardigans- 8 outfits total. What a steal!! read more

Like ridiculously slow, where everyone in line is looking at each other groaning. Either work on your efficiency or get more people to check out during busy hours [hello, people are going to come right after work!!]. The check out lady was completely unaware of the line she was creating. The sent us to start a line somewhere else, which really had no point. Then as the lady in front of me was almost finished, the check out lady started talking about how she couldn't see because she wasn't wearing her glasses....5 mins goes by... Finally when I get ready to go, I explain my situation- which didn't matter because she didn't understand, ten proceeded to work on untangling a cord instead of helping me and the other 5 people in line!! There just is not better place in Austin to shop for designer clothes, bags, jewelry. I never walk out of this place without a full cart and I love high quality fashion. Look at the tags...Sometimes their tag will say something like "Compare at $60, Our price $30" and you find the original store tag on it and it's $300. I love that. They guesstimate with the original MSRP was. So I always bring my smartphone to see what the items really sell for. I just bought $600 leather boots for $25. I love me some TJ Maxx. You just won't find a better deal anywhere. And, as a chef, I can relay that you should not leave without visiting the cooking section. Major steals there as well and you can load up on gift items that will blow people away, at next to nothing prices. read more

The clothing was well-organized but not much variety in choices. The workers are really attentive and greet you multiple times while you are walking through the store. The location is pretty easy to spot and also has a good entrance and exit for such a small parking lot.
