Terrible customer service. I've shopped at Madewell forever and never have received such rude treatment. Won't be back to this location.

Terrible customer service. EVERY time I've ever been in the shop, I'm completely ignored by staff. They have multiple people waking around attending to straightening merchandise though. Again today, I was in the store for 15 minutes, tried on items abd found my own open dressing room. No one acknowledged my presence. The merch isn't flattering either. I see no need to return to any of their stores ever again. read more

So, granted I have kind of forgotten how to shop in person because of the ol' pandemic. But, I had the weirdest experience here and it def turned me off to shopping at this location again. It was a fairly busy Saturday afternoon but there were a handful of Madewell peeps in the store. I looked around for probably 10 minutes or so and no one acknowledged me or asked if I needed help finding anything, etc. I don't really care about that, but it felt a little dismissive. Like when I'd make eye contact with employees they'd just keep talking amongst themselves. I tried to get a dressing room but I didn't realize there was a line. This was so my bad AND ALSO it was very unclear that there was a system. One of the attendants shouted at me "MA'AM THERE'S A LINE." And then just stopped talking to me. Ok cool, so some follow-up, "Where is the line?" "How come there are 4 or 5 empty dressing rooms?" "Why did you yell that at me?" Also, please don't call me ma'am? So, I went to find the "line" which was one person who was sort of lackadaisically standing there. Eventually, someone came over and asked me my name and took the clothes I wanted to try on. Her tone was so annoyed and standoffish, I felt like an embarrassed little kid. I apologized for not seeing the line and she bruskly responded with something like, "It's fine." Then she turned to another employee and her how to spell my name, "How do you even spell..." I was literally standing right next to her. I have a four-letter name that is an actual, easy-to-spell noun outside of being a name. I was so mortified I just said I was going to leave and the two employees chided something after me like, "Oh ok you're not interested?" In this mocking false tone. I get working retail sucks, especially during the holiday season. I've been there. I always try to be super kind and patient with anyone who is helping me so I struggle to see what I did that caused the coldness. I'm sure the clientele in the Domain is tough and maybe I was one of those tough people and didn't realize it. But I was embarrassed about those interactions for days. It felt like they just decided I was going to be an annoying customer and treated me like that without cause. And this is kinda dumb, but this was one of the first times in my life I could afford to walk into a store like that and buy whatever I wanted and I was excited to do so. I never really felt like I fit in because I would look for the bargain shirt or denim on clearance. I'm bummed because I still felt like I didn't belong there because of how mean-girl-y those two were. Two stars because...I mean the clothes are hella cute. read more

Probably the most rude and unhelpful staff at the domain. There was no one in the store and I was literally doing the workers job for them. Then the store was around 80 degrees as well and me and my friend were drenched in sweat! I would've shopped longer if we weren't miserably hot! Will stick to the Madewell at Nordstrom. read more

I had my very first experience with Madewell products at this location. The store was small but had a very welcoming atmosphere. It was very tidy and well organized making the small space easy to navigate. The staff are super friendly and willing to help you obtain products and sizes that may not be in the store. I normally love Madewell, but one of their employees was particularly rude to me. She had a tight low bun and pink, ventilated mask. She was very snarky towards me when I showed her a photo of an item. She, very rudely, said the didn't have that in store immediately after I asked her without even looking. When I got home I looked online it said they had 2 in my size in stock at this specific location. Normally I would have asked for her to check anyways, but she was so rude it didn't feel worth it. 5 stars for the style, 3 for the service. Madewell's preppy spin on refined basics has made it a fashion darling on sites like Pinterest. We're lucky to have a store at the Domain in Austin, and it's quickly become one of my favorite boutiques in the past year or so. Though the prices are a bit rich for my blood, I'll stop at Madewell whilst searching for something I'll wear for a very long time: a new denim jacket, a beautiful blouse or a cognac-hued crossbody saddle bag. The prevailing theme focuses on classic, well-cut pieces, so you can rest assured that even if you do spend a little more than you'd care to on a dress or jacket, it will still be relevant years later. This particular location is on the small side - the dressing rooms are tight and even the area surrounding the cash registers (which are really more of a counter) is a bit claustrophobic. Still, you'll find most of the fab stuff you pinned online, including accessories like sunglasses and shoes. On a Friday night approaching closing time, I found the sales associates a bit snippy for someone holding an armful of moderately expensive clothing, but I did snag a coveted denim jacket and a beautiful summer dress. Spendy stuff, but it all fits me so well! read more

Yay! Madewell is STILL open! I was walking through the Domain last month and stood outside what I *thought* was Madewell. The space inside was empty and a tear rolled down my cheek. It was a halllucination of sorts. I don't get out much...or go to the Domain...or I must have been standing outside a different business...or I had too much chocolate at Viva Chocolato...I have no real excuse for my previous review stating they were closed...which I deleted. It is a bummer that I am giving this particular Madewell location such a low amount of stars and the reason why I am is because they have terrible customer service. I adore Madewell's clothing and products and I have gone to this location three times now and every single time without fail I am never greeted when I walk into the store and the staff is usually talking amongst themselves, laughing and giving each other their home-baked cookies while organizing the sale section (not lying this happened yesterday), had a handful of clothes and no one offered me a dressing room. I used to work in retail and I know good customer service and honestly it can make or break my shopping experience at a store. I live right across the street from the Domain but if I have to visit the South Congress location for better customer service then that's what I will do. read more

I love this store. If I was a richer woman, I would stock my entire closet with only Madewell clothes. The style in here is focused on embellished basics. The items aren't super trendy, but instead could be staples of your closet to mix and match with Today, I bought some new jeans and a couple of tops. While I was there, I worked with a super cute, tall, blonde salesgirl (ugh! should have got your name so I could have yelp praised you!). She was awesome. She gave me just the right amount of attention, and gave me lots of ideas and helped boost my fashion confidence. And best of all, she was so genuine that I actually trusted her. I am normally not one to show off my outfits to a salesperson. But at Madewell, I truly wanted to show her how well her suggestions worked. After trying on jeans (which is normally a horrible, scary event), I would peak my head out and look for her. Jean shopping was fun! In short, she was awesome. Madewell is a J.Crew sister store--J.Crew's younger, trendier, and edgier sister that is. Like the other reviewers, I love Madewell, and I make sure to go every chance I get when I'm in Austin (there are currently only two in Texas--Domain and North Park in Dallas). Retail price is very similar to J.Crew and Anthropologie. But you can often find lots of great things on sale. Their jeans, sweaters and COTTON TEES are my favorites. They also have great partnerships--from Hunter boots to BenSimon sneaks. One more thing!--be sure to check out the employee favorites rack--I love seeing what the people who work there are loving at the moment. At a certain part of a woman's life she must walk away from Forever21 and move on. As I sadly trudged away from F21 after a very sad crop top incident I walked into Madewell. Madewell is beautiful. Totally my style with clean lines and wonderfully crafted. I always have the MOST amazing customer service here. Seriously. I stood looking at jeans that were not 3, 7, or 9s and wondered what the hell size I was. And from across the store floated a very stylish gal and helped me out. I cleaned out all my old gross jeans and brought them to Madewell where they gave me $20 off my next pair of jeans. The quality is amazing and the people are even more amazing. read more

I've been a big fan of Madewell for years and love the quality of everything. This was my first time in the Madewell store at the domain and the sales staff offered awful customer service. My toddler son had to use the restroom and they refused to let him. I worked at a famous high end boutique in Los Angeles years ago and NEVER treated anyone so rudely. I love this store. Their clothes are so, so cute. The girls who work there are super friendly and helpful which is an added plus. There is nothing worse than wandering around with handfuls of clothes in your hands as shopgirls stare at you blankly as they chat to themselves. Not here! The staff in here are definitely an A+++!! I had a staff member help me through a tiring process of finding an xs chambray shirt I was looking for. She went high and low looking for one but was unable to find one. Instead she suggested another shirt that I did not have in mind and I fell in love with the new shirt! These stars go to the staff! Such a lovely location, and a wonderful staff too. I come in here a few times a month and I am consistently blown away by the superb customer service. The ladies (and gentlemen!) running this store truly care about your experience and leaving with something that you love, which I suppose could be both a blessing and a curse. They even worked with me for almost a whole three hours when I experienced a credit card fraud nightmare and was on the phone with my bank to walk me through my purchase step by step before I had to deactivate the card and be sent a new one. I could've just blown it off and went home upset... but the boots were just too cute. If you want stylish, fun clothing and a great shopping experience, I definitely recommend Madewell at the Domain. read more

I had a fantastic experience at Madewell yesterday. My wardrobe could best be described as sad, and I'm probably the least trendy person I know. I decided to spend my Christmas bonus on some new clothes, and this was a great place to come. The gal who helped me was so knowledgeable and didn't laugh when I told her I was a fashion idiot. She made me try on skinny jeans and when I came out with them on, feeling like I looked like a giant, walking butt, she said, "Girl, men like meat. Dogs like bones." I may get that tattooed on my ass. I bought the jeans and several tops, a tank and a really versatile jacket for less than $350, which I think is a great deal. After I left, I walked into several other high-end stores in the Domain and I didn't get a single greeting or offer of assistance. After my experience at Madewell I realized how important that is for someone like me, and I will definitely be coming back and giving them my business. I suggest you do the same. read more

I visited Madewell today for a new outfit, because, yes, when I want to buy a new outfit, Madewell is the first place I think of (especially on payday). Their clothes are part Alexa Chung, part Parisian pixie, and I love everything about the shop's aesthetic. It also helps that their stuff is really, really high quality and the sale section carries lots of goodies that are well-priced for a college student's budget -- the 20% off with your student ID or class schedule isn't half bad, either. There is literally only one gripe that I have with Madewell, and it actually only reflects this location. No other Madewell I've been to -- not in NYC or in Houston -- has as little size selection as this location does. I'd understand if it was only the sale section that would be stocked with 00s and 0s, but the entire store only really carries XXS, XS and S sizes, with mediums and larges very, very few and far between. However, the staff is always super accommodating and has always been willing to call other locations for me (shout out to Joanie, who is always really sweet and helpful when I can't find my size), but it's just frustrating that every visit to Madewell turns into a long, drawn-out hunt for anything over a size 4. If it weren't for the size issues, I'd give this Madewell location a 5/5! read more

I love Madewell and I love the staff! I've been a Madewell customer since I discovered its existence at the Domain and I am so glad I stumbled in randomly without any idea what the store was. I am always greeted and the girls are always friendly and willing to help me out ( I am one of those indecisive shoppers who spends way too much time trying choose between 1 of 2 things and they never never lose their patience). A younger girl with short hair is always cheery and helped me when I needed to make an online order through their store (which I am sure is usually time consuming). I always buy my gifts here because the price is right (especially when they have sale on top of their sale) and so is the quality. The service at this store and well-made products keep me coming back! read more

This might be one of my new favorite stores, both for quality of product and for the excellence of the sales associates. I went in to this store for the first time the other day, even though I've been shopping at The Domain since it opened in 2007. The window displays drew me in, and the products & service kept me there. Plus, it was really nice to have sales associates acknowledge me and take things off my hands without being too overbearing. I also just love that not only do they have a student discount, but they also prompt you to show your student ID rather than just leave it up to you to remember to tell them you qualify. All in all, great store experience - I've already made a return trip and am already planning to return again. read more

I absolutely positively love this place! It's the only store in a mall setting that I come back to again and again because it's worth shopping at. Most of the things are great quailty, or lasts lots of washes. Martin + Osa doesn't compare, and generally has synthetic fabrics, and cotton/jersey pieces that don't last much. My absolute number one staple would be the hi-line V neck pocket tees. The cotton is super good quality. The only thing that wouldn't are heathered gray tees. But it's like that with any place. Whenever you catch a sale, take advantage of it! Their cardigans are awesome, and always come in a great range of colors. A sister store to J. Crew (which I personally don't like, and I don't think J. Crew's quality is worth their price), it's got a similar philosophy of carrying things that can work with anyone's wardrobe. They have amazing leather boots, and amazing leather jackets. I have one black motorcycle style one, and it's just divine, bubbly, leather! Also some of the cutest little belts! Sure, it's still a bit pricey, but I personally overlook that since I get to use the 20% student discount. I would still rather pay full price here than at J. Crew, and once I graduate, being discount-less won't stop me since I still have stuff from them that I got not too long after they first opened up in Austin. That was at least two years ago I think? Oh wait, I need to add, that I know nothing about their denim, except that each pair is hand-sewn. Even though they do offer free hemming in-store, and I am very short, I haven't taken advantage of that since I personally prefer jeans with quite a high rise. Oh, and I love Kerrie! Carrie? I can't remember how to spell her name. I would choose this place over Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, Express, Martin + Osa, or Banana Republic any day! read more

received wonderful customer service from aracely. i was trying to place an order online, but a coupon code wasn't working, so i figured i would just stop in on my lunch break. she was able to order everything i needed and answered all my questions about how jeans would fit, and even called corporate to find out an answer to one of my questions. i've been a fan of their clothing for so long, and the customer service today just seals the deal for me. read more

I went to the store because I had meant to shop there for a long time but just hadn't done it, on-line or in the store. Then Madewell sent me a coupon in their catalog to invite me to get started. I asked a friend to join me. We browsed and later I came back to buy with that coupon. When I was there, I felt slightly uncomfortable, and wanted to leave quickly. They were nice, but still there was an intense selling mode and they didn't seem to have enough time to give you the time you need when you don't know the store well enough. When I was checking out, a sales associate came by and asked if I had been in the store earlier and how my mother was. This was such a shock that I truly thought she had mistaken me for someone else. but when it was clear she had not, I explained that, no, we were friends and not that different in age. Now why would anyone say something like that, when it has no apparent basis? We never struck up a conversation or got to know each other. She was not even the person who had helped either one of us. I don't know but she explained that my friend was so tall and I was not........ made me wonder if its because we are a different color. Any way, I then understood even better why I had felt uncomfortable there. To be fair, there were a couple of sales people who were quite nice. However, overall, my first experience with Madewell ended in a fiasco, and I don't think I'll ever feel comfortable in that store again. read more
