CATERING SERVICES In the past 3 years, for my office holiday luncheons, collectively, we have figured out that the entire menu can be bid out to an outside-caterer so that all we have to do is decide on a menu and a specific price-point. Our 1st year, we had Barbeque and sides. Last year, it was Soup & Sandwich. This year, it was a toss-up between "Traditional Thanksgiving" and "Southern Comfort Food." However, there was never a question to whom I would hire to be our Caterer. The Spot Cafe, while mostly thought of as a formidable place for a hearty big, Southern breakfast/lunch, I just recently learned of their Catering Services. They cover the whole gamut--from simple to upscale/elegant special events, such as weddings or what I had attended recently, a 30th High School Reunion, for St. Augustine High School, which they gave Top Notch Service and the food spread was heavy hors d oeuvres accompanied by a (Meat) Carving Station and a delicious Dessert Spread of dessert miniatures cannolis. For our Thanksgiving Luncheon, we had turkey, dressing, turkey gravy, mashed potato, butter-honey garlic carrots, bread, butter, deviled-eggs topped with bacon, and Southern Banana-Pudding with a Meringue topping and mini-cannolis. Our order was to feed 20 people, but the portions we got were huge!!! We ate on leftovers today, and still had plenty for my co-workers to take home to their family! I'm so disappointed. This used to be my go-to on the weekends. Great staff, good food, awesome local good folk. It is apparent that this place has changed hands and with it, the service has tanked. I was shown to a table where I sat, without any contact, for over 20 minutes while the servers scurried mindlessly about. No real management was seen. The hostess was polite and showed me immediate attention when I walked in, but that was where everything stopped. We just moved back to Jax and a new friend suggested this place for breakfast. We went on Sunday morning and arrived to a small group of people waiting to be seated. We put our names on the list and hung out. After 15 minutes or so of waiting, one of the groups ahead of us became restless and inquired why we weren't being seated when they clearly had empty tables to accommodate all of us. They're answer, we're giving the kitchen a chance to catch up. Understood but frustrating as a customer. We finally got seated and ordered coffee. That was the first test and the coffee passed. The spot cafe was pretty good, staff was very kind and friendly, the place was full but considering they were only at 50% capacity because of the Coronavirus. We could observe they were making sure to comply with all the precautions like cleaning and disinfecting, wearing their masks, etc. We sat at a separate area in the back of the restaurant. After a while two more families arrived and this part was full because a loner was occupying another table. The food was scrumptious you good. We had only breakfast here choosing the Four cheese Omelet and the Southerners Breakfast, but because we had some coffee and have tried some items from the "COVID-19 Takeaway Breakfast" included in our hotel fare and seeing the plates were big and included grits or potatoes and bread, my daughter and I decided to share a plate. My daughter who's 16 and a fan of this dish, loved it and me too, really, she loved also the house potatoes. We ended up paying $2.50 to share and weren't informed. So you charge customers for bringing an extra plate? I don't know how is it in St. Augustine but in Miami we don't have to pay anywhere to share a plate. read more

I think it's about time for me to write my review. I only have eaten here about a dozen times now. So it's no surprise that I love this place for breakfast. I usually eat here on a weekend at least two times per month and have only been here twice for lunch. If you come here on the weekend, especially Sunday, be prepared to wait for seating. If it's just one or two of you, try to get a seat at the bar to skip the wait. The staff here are very friendly. Now for the food. My go to is the country fried steak and eggs but every meal I've had here was good. If you order the eggs over easy, they can have a lot of runny whites so if that's not your thing but like the runny yolk, order the over medium. The country fried steak is a perfect portion. Not too large or small. If you are in St. Augustine and want a good breakfast and not worry about the tourist, eat where the locals eat. It will hit the spot. read more

My family and I went there today and have to admit we were pretty disappointed. The service was really lacking. We ended up sitting at our table for over an hour while others who sat after us got seated and received their food. When I asked the waitress about it she said the system didn't log in our food and she was working on getting it reordered. As a server in the past I would know that my tables food hadn't come out and would have checked on it a few times. My girlfriend and I got there at exactly 9:15 and left at 10:11 am. We literally waited for our food which was just a burrito and home fries and their home fries with cheese bacon sausage and ham and we left that place an hour later with nothing but sweet tea and water on our stomachs. Not to mention, there were two tables that sat down after we did and got their food before us, one table being just a single gentleman, and the other table being three gentlemen. It did not help that it was just us, the only two African Americans in the building that were seated. From the breakfast menu I got the Nutella and crème stuffed French toast with strawberries; if you have a sweet tooth, this is perfect for you. I couldn't finish it by myself, so definitely share if you can or you'll have enough to take home! Each bite had Nutella in it and the strawberries were fresh fruit, not the syrup kind. I opted to not have whipped cream, but they do offer it. I almost felt guilty eating this because it was so decadent, it was as if you were eating dessert for breakfast. Regardless, this dish was delish. They have their own parking lot, staff was friendly and refilled coffee almost immediately they were so attentive. We discovered The Spot a year or so ago and have been going as much as we can when we come down here. It has now become our favorite go-to restaurant for breakfast. The menu selection has a wide variety, the service has always been prompt with caring staff, and the coffee and food always hot. There's delicious selections on the menu for anyone in your group from French toast to omelets to skillets to oatmeal to breakfast burritos! My go to is the Protein Lovers which consist of four eggs and a choice of two meats. Also, daily they have unique specials written on the board to try if you'd like.
