My significant other found this little gem on the way to see the capybara's next door after reading all the crazy good reviews for Buena Onda Café. Seeing a 4.9 rating honestly made me pretty skeptical becuase usually places that hyped never live up to it. But wow... this one actually did. I'm pretty sure my 5 stars are gonna help push this place to a full 5.0 The design itself is cute but not exactly perfection, and the checkout line process could definetly be smoother during busy times. BUT the food... thats where this place absolutley shines. The Arepas Special with the corn pancakes filled with eggs, avocado and tomatoes was an absolute BEAST. Fresh, flavorful and super satisfying. Then the Avocado Toast with the sweet pumkin pieces just blew the rest of our taste buds out the window. Such a weird combo on paper but somehow worked sooo good. And finishing it all with a Cafe con Leche and a blueberry scone just put the final dot on this breakfast experiance. It honestly didnt feel like "just breakfast" it felt like an experiance you remember later. Big shoutout to Huhny for a human she is! The staff were super helpful since it was our first time, explaining the menu, options and provided recommendations. I just realized I ordered the same thing from 2 years ago today it was EXCELLENT!! I also ordered a chai collagen latte with coconut milk that was so creamy and spiced to perfection it was so good best chai in town! Inside is pleasant, calm, and chill. Service was AWESOMEEEEE the girls were sweet and very kid friendly. That's always a win for me. My little felt it too she picked some flowers and one of the girls placed them in a cup with water and she had directions to give them to the girl with the blue dress. It was sweet. 1st time here and it was AMAZING! We got the mushroom melt and with vegan cheddar and the banh mi sandwich with tempeh. Both were soo delicious! The spicy romesco sauce could have some more kick, or maybe a second hotter sauce could be added to the sides. They used to have a nice faux-sausage mixed in but this is the new recipe. Only non-vegetarians actually care about meat-tasting substitutes. So it really just depends on who they're catering to. Same price as 4 years ago, so, with that trade off, I don't really miss the fake-meat crumbles. The rest of the menu is very nice and creative, as it's a veg/vegan cafe. But the burrito or the taco plate is where it's at. Cappuccino is fairly good, but maybe I'd be more impressed with one of their bespoke recipes. Nice service. A couple of ladies working the bar and a chef in the back. Clean place. Cozy and comfortable. But they should double check the table layout and the seats. The 2-top I picked out was right on a crack between cushions on the bench. So the only way to get comfortable was to slide the table a foot to the right or a foot to the left, crowding out the neighboring tables. A terrific little café in the West King ST area, small but charming with a great menu and daily specials. I thought I would just have a cafe con leche & a scone, but then I read the menu and watched some beautiful plated meals being served and I found a seat at the bar and ordered the Nut Toast. It was so delicious -- almond butter, fresh fruit, coconut flakes & agave syrup like a thick french toast. Next I had the soup of the day which was squash & garbanzo beans & the perfect spice. Absolutely excellent vegan breakfast options, which we stumbled on when waiting and giving up on the Blue Hen across the street. We were so happy with the outcome! I love that the vegan options had a good protein focus to it! So many times we have had vegan food that while flavorful, isn't filling or nutritious. The ban mi was deliciously fresh and flavorful, the pickle in it was a nice touch. It came with a tomato soup which was tart and warming. The avocado toast was excellent too - great bread, flavorful tofu, and a bite from the potatoes. Both portions were very filling, the drinks were ordered were generously sized as well. It's a quick service cafe, food came in 15 minutes. We ate in at one of the tables, which we got pretty quickly even though they were pretty full when we first walked in. Buena Onda Café is a great spot for lunch, I went with my aunt and cousin and we all loved it! The decor is cute and items for sell. The food is absolutely delicious, with plenty of vegan/plant-based options, including desserts. It does get crowded, so be prepared to wait in line (it moves fairly quickly), and grab your water at the start to put down on a table to hold. There's outdoor seating in the front and back and it's dog-friendly, which is a big plus. Parking is available in the rear. Overall, a tasty and welcoming place worth the visit! read more

Do yourself a favor and check out West King! You don't need to go downtown for great food. It's right here on West King sandwiched between a local brewery and a cool shop. I've been visiting Buena Onda 6 or so years ago when our son was a student at Flagler. This cosy cafe continues to be one of our favorite breakfast and lunch spots. Today I ordered the Present Moment Bowl topped with grilled Tempeh. The bowl was filled with fresh kale, properly massaged to give it a bit softer texture, Lentils, quinoa, roasted butternut squash with a creamy avocado dressing. My husband had the Breakfast Burrito. Two beautiful fried eggs, refried beans, avocado, mash, fresh, roasted, sweet potatoes, cheddar cheese, wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. It served with a side of spicy romesco and cilantro dip. Both dishes were delicious, healthy, and filling. Glad we walked here because now I can walk off what I just ate! read more

When you see 45 solid 5 star reviews, you gotta go! Yelpers tell you like it is! We were doing the touristy thing in St Augustine and had to run away from all the congestion in town @ lunchtime. We got in our car and opened up Yelp for some peace and quiet and incredible vegan food and so glad we found Buena Onda. It was so good! I needed to drop my husband off at an appointment and had a few hours to kill (or at least I thought), so I pulled out my handy dandy Yelp app, and checked out what was near the appointment. Several places came up, but Buena Onda Cafe peaked my interest. So off I went to Buena Onda. It's a bit off the beaten path (not super far from downtown St. Augustine), but also away from the hustle and bustle. I pulled up (it's located on King Street), and was happy to see they had a parking lot in the rear of the building. I parked, and walked to the front of the cafe. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the beautiful stained glass windows that adorn the cafe (beautiful greens and blues). I also noticed the rad mural they had in the rear of the restaurant. I checked out their menu and had a hankering for the potato frittata sandwich. Unfortunately the staff member said that they ran out of this (it sounded so dreamy...potatoes, egg, reminded me of a bocadillo of tortilla espanola I used to get in Spain frequently). The staff member mentioned their breakfast arepa, which was today's special, it sounded super good, so I opted for that. I also got a chia pudding (because when made right, it's so good), and an iced cafe con leche (you can get many of their hot beverages iced). If you're looking for a vegan restaurant, this is your place. Lots of options, and they don't skimp on flavor. Also, if you're looking for a coffee drink, they offer a variety of milk options, from oat to almond, they've got you covered. I also so a variety of pastries, cookies, and desserts. Had I not ordered such a big meal, I would have totally gotten a dessert. There's lots of seating inside, they also have a few outdoor tables in the front of the restaurant, and a table outside (behind the restaurant outside). My meal came out quickly and the arepa looks chock full of deliciousness (beans, avocado, eggs, cheese, pickled onions), the chia pudding looked fresh and delicious (the strawberries that adorned the top were a vibrant red), and the iced cafe con leche looked refreshing. When I was about to bite into my arepa, I received a text from my husband that he needed to be picked up. So I got everything boxed up. I picked him up and decided to switch over to the passenger seat (so he could drive and I could enjoy my meal), I bit into the arepa, and to say this was full was an understatement. Seriously full. So full that I had to use a fork and knife. Each bite was better then the next. The eggs were fluffy, the avocado was deliciously ripe, the cheese was a bit sharp, and the beans knocked my socks off (in a good way, so well seasoned). The chia pudding was so creamy, not gritty. The strawberries, pieces of granola, and coconut added a nice tropical flavor to the pudding. It also had some raisins and blueberries inside. The cafe con leche was so refreshing, creamy, and perfectly delicious. If you're looking for a sweet little cafe, equipped with something off the beaten path, delicious, thoughtfully handcrafted food, head over to Buena Onda.
