Definitely different flavors the tamale was different from the mexican tamales that I am used to. This is an adorable cafe in a very unremarkable shopping center. I had never really noticed it before but a friend suggested we meet here. The restaurant has tables but also some comfy chairs in the center. It is sparkling clean. I did not see the restroom. The owner greeted us promptly and gave us great service. The food was delicious. I ordered the salad and sandwich combo. The turkey and brie sandwich was on such fresh crusty bread. The combination of flavors with the fig spread and cheese plus the other ingredients had a terrific flavor profile. I also had a half salad with the dates and goat cheese. Bonus is all dressing comes on the side. You don't have to ask. My friend had the caprese sandwich. The portions are large. What you see on the plates is what we took home. Came here for a quick coffee pick up. The mocha and cafe con leche was solid. Also picked up a chicken empanadas and that was yummy ( adding the cilantro sauce elevated my empanadas). I didn't love my food. The beef empanada and soup came out a bit too hot. I was too hungry to wait long, and burned my mouth a bit. My butiffara sandwich was tasty, but I prefer soft bread to this crusty (though tasty) stuff. My companion thought the bread was excellent. I wasn't a big fan of my lentil soup: I don't think carrots are a complementary flavor, and it tasted a bit thin. The corn chips with my companion's sandwich were a bit addictive. La Taza is only open for lunch five days, and they were virtually out of desserts by this Friday. I'd been hoping for the dulce de leche cheesecake I'd read about, but had to settle for a little cookie. It was two pieces of shortbread with dulce de leche in the middle. It was a bit addictive too, and I liked it enough that I might get it again. I liked the setting here: relaxed and a bit upscale. The toilet paper was cheap, however. There was only one person in the front of the house, so things were a bit slow, but he provided good service. I assume it was the owner. I'd try this place again, at least to check out the desserts earlier in the week. read more

This place is exceptional. I have family in St. Augustine and make a point to visit every time I'm in town. My husband and I are pretty snobby when it comes to food (being from Denver makes it hard not to!) and this place always delivers. It's very clean and a great atmosphere with lovely plants decorating the place. The owner is always warm and hospitable, with expedient service. This past visit we enjoyed the baked yuca, a beef empanada and the turkey & Brie sandwich. Delicious as always - thank you La Taza for always providing a top notch experience! read more

We have gotten takeout from La Taza and they never disappoint! I usually get the Triple Peruano because I love egg salad but this time I tried the De Jamon sandwich which has ham ,Swiss cheese and a yummy Ami pepper aioli on their delicious French bread. My daughter got the Pavo y Queso Brie - Turkey, Brie, and Granny Smith apples which she very much enjoyed! I stopped in for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised to find this jewel. I had a cortadito and a beef empanada. The coffee was divine, perfectly rich and creamy. The empanada was full of veggies and meat with great flavor. The crust was really tasty too. I will definitely be back to try the sandwiches which looked amazing. An absolute favorite of ours. We have worked our way through the sandwich menu and love them all so much, we sometimes have a hard time choosing what to get. I don't eat pork and am very happy with all of the turkey options. Their pastries are also delicious and made in-house. My favorite is the long one with sweet cheese inside. Always awesome service. We've grown quite fond of this place and the owner, Alberto. Super clean, simple decor, warmed up with some greenery. Beautiful south-American (Peruvian predominantly I belief) cafe with homemade sandwiches which are full of fresh flavor and wine lists for a nice brunch evening. My sandwich had roast turkey, brie, honey and apples and was so fresh and delicious. I also got a mango based smoothie that wasnt too sweet and really refreshing. This is a super great place! The owner that I met is from Peru. I split a handspun chocolate milk shake and my daughter had expresso with her boyfriend. Best malt ever! I didn't go there for a malt but it looked so good as does all their items. Impeccably clean, nicely done space with a fun conversation with the owner. Prices are reasonable for how delish they are. This spot is a gem! I used to travel to Miami a lot, and some of the things I miss from my visits are the coffee and South American foods. La Taza brought the quality and authenticity to St. Augustine. The coffee was spot on - they had the best Cortodito I have had outside of Miami. The empanadas, tamal, and pastelito were all delicious as well - and made fresh from scratch! If you get the empanadas- ask for the Peruvian sauce along with the cilantro sauce- it tastes great on the chicken and meat Empanadas. If they have the vegetarian empanada- be sure to try it. It's super flavorful! I also appreciated the amazing service from Alberto. He not only provided an amazing experience, but he shared information about visiting Peru. Best coffee in St Augustine. My husband and I went here many times. The owner Alberto is so amazing, super friendly and prepares the best cafe Cubano in North Florida. The turkey brie sandwich is absolutely delicious and the empanadas are so fresh and homemade and the salads are fresh and yummy. About dessert....its so hard to chose the best one because they are all so good. Important to know that the chef prepares the dishes with so much care and passion as you can see her cooking your order. The place is spot clean with a very soothing decor and beautiful music. It is one of my favorite places in St. Augustine. I love this place and I respect both the owner and the chef for their hard work and a great menu. read more

I have been going to this cafe since the beginning. I use to come in every week, sometimes 2-3x week. This was the go to spot for lunch with my girlfriends. I have even introduced MANY friends and strangers to this spot. We loved the food and Alberto was always nice, but in the past few months we've noticed how Alberto started treating us: talking down to us as if we were children, if we didn't tell him we had a group of more than 4 coming in- he gave us attitude, and then one Saturday he rushed us out of the restaurant an hour before closing time saying they usually leave early (even though they close @3pm). It is heartbreaking to see an establishment that you had been loyal and supporting to treat you as if you are not important anymore just because they have now become busy. And because of that, our group of friends choose to eat elsewhere 2-3x a week. read more

My daughter brought us here for lunch as we had been terribly disappointed in our search of a wonderful Sangria. Who would have thought we would find it in a coffee shop. The chicken salad on foccacia was fabulous. You can do 1/2's with sandwiches. soups, and salads. Be sure and start with an empanada..the lime cilantro sauce is scrumptious! Took a couple friends back next day and we all got different coffee or coffee drinks and some cookies desserts on counter-OMG, those were good too! I was so pleased with everything about this place. The food was so different but everything we all got was exceptional. The Tapas menu was so fun. Sandwich was huge. I ordered two different Tapas items and couldn't finish them! Bigger than i expected. Desserts galore. And every one I have tried is ambrosia in your mouth. Service was excellent. My wife and I tried La Taza for the first time today. As soon as you walk in you can't help but notice how beautifully and tastefully decorated this cafe is. We started off by sharing a beef empanada as an appetizer. They make these in house and after taking one bite I knew I was in heaven. The dough was nice and flaky and the meat inside was perfectly seasoned. There was also a creamy cilantro sauce to dip the empanada in that was absolutely amazing. For lunch we ordered a chicken salad sandwich and a turkey Brie sandwich and decided to each have half of both. The chicken salad sandwich was full of freshly cooked chunks of chicken breast with pieces of apples, walnuts, raisins, basil and mayo on French bread. The turkey sandwich included Brie cheese, apple slices, mustard and fig jam. The sandwiches were nice sized and included tortilla chips on the side. Both sandwiches were A+ in taste and appearance but the two of us agreed that we liked the chicken salad one better. Before leaving my wife had a cortadito coffee and we split a cream cheese Cuban pastry for dessert. Again these were top notch, with the pastry made in house. Lastly I want to commend the owner, Alberto, for his service and friendliness. From the minute we arrived until the minute that we left he made us feel very welcome and comfortable. We look forward to returning many times again in the future. read more
