I love this place. Sunday afternoon, about 1p. Not crowded. Wish they had a brunch menu, but I believe its the same menu all the time, lunch and dinner. We started with the goat cheese with roasted garlic appetizer. Served with sliced wood grilled baguette. The goat cheese had an excellent flavor and was a nice pairing with the roasted garlic. Could've used more of the garlic. But the wood grilled bread was perfect. We had the Rustic burger and the Turkey sandwich which had ham and smoked gouda on it. Ended up splitting both. The burger was cooked just right and served with home made potato chips. The description says the burger is topped with chopped house brisket, white cheddar, green chili and grilled white onion. It's not as much as it sounds like, but the burger was very tasty and I liked it better than the turkey and ham sandwich, which was a bit on the dry side. I'm not a beer drinker, but my husband liked the one he drank. I had the mimosa rita, which was a frozen concoction with a margarita popsicle in it. $12! It was about two drinks worth though, so the price wasn't that bad. The waiter gave us a dessert and we split the banana pudding. It was delicious. Loved how the stage wall went up so the people on the inside could see the band. We headed to the bar to enjoy a drink and see what the band was like, but we were too full from the meal to be comfortable. I can't wait to go back and hear some music. The atmosphere is fantastic. I absolutely love it. Do NOT get a mixed drink. I purchased 2 drinks (both $9) that tasted exactly like water and came in the smallest glasses ever. The bartender asked me if I enjoyed it, to which I replied that it had no flavor whatsoever. He started talking about all the different types of alcohol in it, and how I'd feel it later. Yeah, never felt it. This was such a huge letdown and waste of money. When we went, there was a band playing called Dovetail. The band was great, but the music sounded pretty poor by the time you got about halfway across the patio. On the back wall, you couldn't hear much other than drums. I came here the other night, and everything was actually pretty fantastic! The environment is right up my alley, albeit a little "manufactured" or seems like it could be easily mass produced. The food was phenomenal, and the drinks were strong. We both had a basic burger because neither of us were feeling adventurous to try anything "new." They were cooked and seasoned perfectly, and were a good size for what we were looking for. We also had drinks. Both were custom cocktails and were great! Actually, mine was a little too strong, but wasn't so strong that it was bad. So... not bad! The $9 drink showed up in a 5oz glass full of ice Food: overpriced and so-so, the burger was the cheapest thing on the menu at $12 and it doesn't come with any sides Service: they brought me the wrong burger and onion rings rather than fries, I very politely let them know it was the wrong food but told them not to worry about making different food because I knew they were busy, and then they tried to charge me the higher price of the food they brought me in error It was nice siting outside, but it was so loud I couldn't hear a thing anyone was saying. I've been here twice. The first time was to meet up with some friends. I realize this place is new but the bartenders don't seem to know what they're doing. Took 30 minutes just to get one drink. The second time, I took some out of town coworkers for dinner. Once we got there, got on the waiting list (there were empty tables everywhere) and was told it was going to be a 45 minute wait. So we went outside for a few beers to pass the time. One hour later asked when our table was going to be ready and they said it was going to be another 30 minutes (still, open tables). After that 30 minutes (we had been waiting a total of an hour and a half) had passed asked again if our table was ready and again said another 30 minutes and again there were still open tables. So we left. I don't mind waiting, but be realistic in the wait time. Also, if there are numerous open tables, you might want to seat people at them. No one seems to have their act together at this place. The hostess wasn't rude or anything. They just don't know how to manage reservations. Even our waitress outside seemed shocked that we hadn't been seated yet. The place is awesome physically, very well thought through. Seems like it could be a really great atmosphere, but when the service is almost non-existent, the "prettiness" of it all is meaningless and disappears. I doubt I'll go back again and won't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Went to a business gathering with my VP and Directors yesterday and the A/C was not working which made the dining experience absolutely unbearable. Ordered the Texas Cheesesteak and it was awful. Seriously loving this place! As a lover of outdoor seating, country music, and beer, The Rustic fits the bill. The vibe is fun and inviting, and the place always seems to be bustling with people. The interior and exterior are both well done and look great, and there's a nice stage outside which is great for live music. The fire pits come in handy as well during cold nights. As for food, I've really had only a few things, and it was alright. Wouldn't really come here for the food unless you're just looking for some munchies to eat along with your drinks. Among the worst service I have ever had. We were sat at the bar, on a slow night, yet the bartenders could not be bothered from hitting on a duo of girls or just generally ignoring us. Been once. Food was great all around. The physical location is fun. It has a great patio, good food, good music, and a pretty neat environment. Minor miracle that occurred: try told us it would be 1.5-2 hours to wait and we got an indoor seat within 20 minutes (for seven of us)! The food? I'd give it a Good+. Everything I had was tasty: Rustic burger with brisket, white cheddar, and green chiles. Yum! Texas Goat Cheese was stellar, and we really enjoyed the chorizo empanadas. The bad all lies in the atmosphere. It's not my crowd. It's a bunch of uptown people wanting to be country. Celebrated my birthday on Saturday, first time going. Got here around 7:15 pm and got a bench outside within 5 mins. Stayed until 11:30 pm. We had dinner and drinks. The brisket quesadilla is amazing, but note that the pico de gallo is inside the quesadilla not on the side like the black bean and corn salsa or whatever the menu calls it. I don't eat tomatoes so I picked it all out. The double queso dip was heavenly, we all fought over it. My brother in law had the quail and he said it was really good. My fiancé had the burger and really enjoyed it. This place has the total package. The Paula's lemonade is awesome and is a great mix of alcohol and lemonade! I have never had a bad experience at The Rustic. The food and service are always on point and you can't beat the atmosphere. What I love about The Rustic is how it captures the true western feel of Texas but in a modern way. The decor lets you know you're in Texas but the design confirms you're in Dallas, not Fort Worth. Every time we have a visitor from out of town, we have to bring them here. And that is exactly what brought us here this past Sunday for brunch. Sunday Jam is what they call their brunch and O.M.Gee!! For $16.95/pp you get every item off the brunch menu (fried chicken, grits and biscuits, fresh fruit and cheese, mini donuts, french toast, and so much more!). Every single item is delicious so wear your stretchy pants because you're bound to overeat! They've also got a great outdoor area and stage, sometimes with some pretty big name performers for a local joint. The Rustic is a great spot to visit day or night, winter, spring, summer or fall. They've got it going on! The only down side is you can't share the outdoor space with your furry friends. This place is just plain cool!!! Their outdoor space takes the cake here! It's covered, the furniture is comfortable and there are warmers everywhere. There's even a grassy area for your kids to run around in and there's a fence going around the entire place so you don't have to worry your kids will wander off. The food here was excellent! What I probably like the most about The Rustic is that their food AND most alcohol is local! Yay!! We tried the quail and several of the appetizers. The quail was excellent! And the appetizers were all very, very good! The service was impeccable! The manager even brought us a free slice of pie at the end.....no idea why! Oh, and there is live music 5 nights a week! I heard that this place was a new bar. It's walking distance from some of the apartment complexes in Uptown. I was pretty disappointed by this place. First of all, I can almost guarantee the fact that I was the only Asian girl in this whole entire bar. Not that it's a problem for me, but you can get a general idea of this place. It was country-themed, cow skulls, wooden interiors, live performances... I think the only thing that's missing was a bull-ride and a few cowboy hats. This place was fairly crowded when I was here, it was hard to find a place to sit. The services weren't that great and it was fairly slow. I ended up getting seated at a table so we could snack on some chips and dip. Which by the way, the cheese dip was pretty good--even though it tasted as if they ordered powdered packages of seasonings and just added cream cheese and mixed it in. I was disappointed by their drink selections. I drink dark beer and it didn't seem like they had a very good selection of dark beer but they did have quite a few selections for hoppy beers and IPA's... The service at the rustic was so horrible that I am leaving my first Yelp review. This was my first (and last) time going there so maybe it was just an off day but judging by other reviews, probably not. My boyfriend and I went to the Rustic so he could meet up with a friend whom he hasn't seen in years. We are told the wait is around 45 minutes to an hour - that's understandable, it seemed really busy. We finally get seated and it takes 10 minutes to be acknowledged by a wait staff. Another 10 minutes to get our drink orders. Another 15 minutes to get the water. And then over an hour to get our food. People who came after us got their food before we did. We walked in the door at noon and left at 2:50. Now, the food. We weren't aware that there was only one option, and that was for family style brunch (around $17 per person). We ordered for four people and if I had not been so hungover from the night before, my bf and I could have probably finished the whole thing. The venue itself was okay. Nothing too special. The bar was too crowded with a bunch of day drinkers who feel more apt to spill beer on you or the floor then into their mouths. Once we did get seated we did not have a server come to our table for 25 minutes, and this was only after we hunted one down . The only reason I didn't give Rustic one star is because the food was pretty damn good. Recommend the goat cheese appetizer! Ordered a round of drinks that didn't come until we were about ready to pay and leave. The manager ended up comping the drinks but c'mon!! My first time here I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and the chicken breast was clearly a low-grade bird that had been pumped full of so many hormones it died from obesity. My second time I had the roast beef sandwich. It was basically cheap deli meat on a massive bun, a piece of Velveeta cheese, and drenched in store-bought horseradish. Don't waste your time. So I'll admit. Our relationship didn't start out so well. As I was pushed and jostled at the bar, from behind me, I hear: "So yeah man...I go to Tech. Down here for the game." "Yeah, dude? How do you like it?" "I mean, it's cool, dude...but there's just a lot of OLD people in here, you know?" "I hear ya...I been livin' here for a while now, since I got out of school last year, but it's aight. There's people in their mid-thirties trying to act young 'n all, but it's aight. You can find fun people." It took every ounce of my 31 year old being not to whip around and point out that maybe...just maybe...people in their 30's hang out in uptown because they can AFFORD IT. But all that aside, the half a dozen times or so that I've been back to the Rustic are usually lovely. I've had hilarious waiters who kept us rolling as we watched our team suffer devastating losses (roll tide), we've had late night drinks on the grassy lawn, and rowdy fireplace chats. A few tips: -Stick to beer. The bar is usually too crowded to trust with a fancy cocktail. This is not a craft cocktail kind of place. -Don't give up. If your outside server waits on the table right next to you, but ignores you for HOURS on end, don't hesitate to grab random servers and ask them for help. Sooner or later, someone's going to get pissed off at the guy who's supposed to help you out. (This is what happens when you go the latest "cool" spot in town.) -Get there early or bring a blanket for the grass. read more

Bartenders were really friendly and made the drinks well. My fave was the Wild West. There was live music since we were here kinda early at 10ish. On Saturday, it was a different story! Even though we got there after 11 when the band was done, it was still super crowded. We were still able to find a table, but it was just super crowded. I am just realizing that I have turned into an old lady that would rather have a quieter evening out. Lol. I just thought it was funny it was louder than when there was a band. We brought family from out of town to Rustic for dinner at 10pm, thinking this is a good place (after reading all the reviews). We ordered Pork chops, brisket and chicken with tacos and sides of avocado salad and jalapeno corn. The food is great and the ambience is good too. Love the rustic wood look and it just feels like home. It started out very good. Then, came the service.... (yup..) The place was not as busy at 10pm + on a Wednesday night but the service is beyond extremely horrifying- worst nightmare-kill me please. There was no words to explain how mad and angry when we all left the restaurant. It is probably the most worst experience we ever had. Firstly, it took the waitress a very long time to get back to our table to take our orders. We tried to wait and get her attention but she was busy chatting away with another customer (who already had their dinner, take outs boxed and desserts and coffee). After chatting, she was going to walk away and we had to shout to get her attention. Maybe next time, we should bring glow sticks and maybe a loud speaker to get her attention. Secondly, after ordering and food was served, the pork that was served does not come with any sides and sauce (as described in the menu). It was just pork. We had to get the attention of the waitress again and it was another 10 mins till she came over. Told her what the menu shows and she brought the side over. Then, told her about the special sauce that came with the fries (that is in the menu, again) and she said she will get it....tick tock... probably 15 mins later, she came back with the sauce. Third, we have repeatedly asked for more water and drinks but they never came. Asked for more ice tea and she came back (20 mins later) and said they have already poured out the tea and do not have any left. We said water is also ok and she said she will be back.......tick tock.... never came back with WATER. Water was served only after we have spoken to the manager. The manager tried to handle the situation. It was ok but our conversations got a little heated towards the end. All in all, nice concept and food but the service was beyond horrible. We have been to many restaurants in the world and this is probably the worst service we ever had. We paid to enjoy the food and relax at this place and we did not expect us to leave so angrily. read more

The Rustic is one of those places in Dallas like Katy Trail Ice House.... Love it or hate it, you have to at least try it once. Lucky for me, I happen to love this establishment! One thing uptown doesn't have a lot of is country-themed bars, and this place fills the void with flying colors (although nothing is TRULY country in uptown). I haven't tried the food here, but the drinks are tasty and the atmosphere is bustling. The Rustic is usually pretty packed, so be prepared to valet or search extensively for parking. You can come here dressed down or dressed up, and it is a great spot for happy hour or game day. This will be the first springtime in Big D for the Rustic, and I can see myself frequently coming here with friends on many sunny Saturday afternoons. Stay tuned! read more

Watched the Alamo Bowl here with a few friends. Heard a lot about the place so was excited to check it out. Not really much of a sports bar, as most of the larger TVs are outside on the expansive patio where I believe they have live Texas Country music nightly. Plenty of heaters and fire pits to keep us warm with the low creeping toward the 20s which was nice. However, it seemed their large beer selection was mostly out and I was struggling to find something on the menu that was available. I wasn't sure if they were hoarding all the good beer for NYE the next day or something because the place wasn't totally slammed, nor did I see many people ordering goblets of beer. The waitress kept bringing me beer samples asking me if I wanted that as a replacement for what I originally ordered as a substitute. Regardless, it was pretty annoying how literally nothing was available but I dealt with it. Tried the Chorizo Empanadas and they were decent but in agreement with other reviewers, there just wasn't enough food to satisfy the price point. I'm not sure how a group of people would agree with that portion as an appetizer and I bet many are leaving this place hungry and their wallets drained. Atmosphere was slightly awkward. They seem to be trying to fuse the classic Texas country experience with the usually pretentious Uptown vibe, and compared to the other bars that are successful up and down McKinney, The Rustic just feels weird and out of place. I can understand why many Austinites are loving the spot with its relaxed setting, but I just don't find Uptown laid back enough for a place like this. I liked the patio a lot and it could get a lot of fun in the warmer months, but considering I don't like country music much and also the beer problem (coupled with finding out there wasn't a daily happy hour for anything that was on the menu), I would need some convincing to head back. read more

We had a great "private" event out in the backyard of The Rustic last weekend. We had three tables for about 25 people and had time for mingling and cocktails as well as family style apps, dinner and dessert. It was perfect for our group - fun crowd, easy to talk to friends, and really delicious food. Most importantly, every single staff member was amazing and made sure we really enjoyed the night. They just made everything seem easy - predicting needs, checking in, always smiling. They seemed happy to be working there and made our night great. Also - fun band!! read more

I freaking love Pat Green and since he's part owner, I kinda had high hopes for The Rustic. I've tried to go before but could never get in because the parking/valet was so out of control that we just left and went somewhere else. This time it was for a surprise birthday party and we had 'reservations' even though the Facebook page says they don't reserve tables. We had the same issue with the valet line at 7pm on a Saturday night. It was crazy busy and no one knew who was coming or going. Bananas! When we told the hostess we were there for a party she pointed to the backyard where our 3 tables were (we couldn't see through all the people) and just left us to find our own way. Seriously? We had to find it ourselves!? I was a bit disappointed at this. Some service. We found our party and sat down. The service was so slow because it was so busy that we had to go to the bar for our drinks. I ordered the avocado salad and a whiskey sour with the server and my total was $20.46. The avocado salad was $7.95....you can do the math and figure out how much that tiny whiskey sour was!!!! Overpriced as hell! We had a good time because we were with awesome people. The backyard is nice and chill. But there are people standing and lurking just waiting for you to get up from your picnic table so they can take your seat. We had reserved signs so we didn't have to worry too much. But other people did. Also, on a busy night the ladies restroom line is hella long and guess what is taking up prime real estate in an empty stall? A freaking saddle!!! Yup ladies, a saddle is sitting where a toilet could be! Dude, put the saddle in the corner and install a toilet. Pretty sure it's a fire hazard to have 20 women standing in line blocking the men's room and out into the bar/hostess area. Just sayin'! Takeaway: Drinks: Way overpriced. If you want to pay, then go for it. Food: Pricey, small portions, but okay. Service: Awful, slow (especially on busy nights) Ambiance: Good, busy, party environment. The place is HUGE and there is plenty of parking, which is a major plus for the area. The place itself reminds me a lot of Katy Trail Ice House except the inside is nicer and the outside is more spacious, but I still left smelling like a campfire! Once we sat down at a picnic table outside we had a waitress quickly come over to our table. They have an impressive list of draft beers and a few specialty cocktails. I asked her about drink specials and she informed me that they do not have a happy hour in place yet. If they want to keep this place in business during the week they need a happy hour ASAP!! I ordered the Tequila Mockingbird and my friend ordered a draft beer. The drafts come in huge glasses and my drink was delicious! We didn't order any food but we looked over the menu. The menu is a little fancier than what I was expecting for a bar owned by Pat Green. On the appetizer menu they had deviled eggs and cactus frites. Where is normal bar food?!
