Stopped by here looking for the best chicken sandwich...and I found it! Got some takeout: the chicken sandwich, brussel sprouts, the La Jolla Bowl...and dang, everything was delicious! Took the food to a beach nearby and had a little picnic. All in all, the chicken sandwich with the pesto was delightful. The La Jolla Bowl was also so good. Grilled chicken + rice + mac salad = it's like a Rochester garbage plate, but a tad healthier. I've been coming to the Promiscuous Fork for over 10 years, but haven't been here for a while now. We always come here for the lamb chops appetizer which is out of this world. This time we decided to change it up and we got the Buffalo wings which were huge and full of flavor. It wasn't like a usual Buffalo sauce. You could tell that they use different spices to amplify the flavors. We then split the chicken sandwich and burger which for take out was really tasty. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at The Promiscuous Fork. I got the salmon tacos and husband got the salmon bowl. Both items were great; all ingredients were fresh, the salmon was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Staff were very friendly, service was pretty quick. Ambience was fun. We got dinner there a little late on a Tuesday night and was glad it was open, there is limited seating inside but it also has a lovely patio. Very casual style restaurant. Good selection of beers and it seems like they have a pretty good happy hour. Walk up service and pick up at the counter. We ordered the surf and turf sandwich, beef sliders, and the chicken sandwich. Not very adventurous. Everything was decent but nothing really stood out in taste. First of all. Anyone who has the gumption to name their eatery the promiscuous fork deserves five stars from me. Noticed this place during a little getaway and it just so happened to end up being in walking distance from our hotel. Decided to walk over for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by all of the menu options. I usually only eat fish so it's always a win to find that a menu will easily accommodate my dietary needs. My sole gripe was that due to the many options sounding delicious, it was difficult to choose. Finally I did make a choice in the salmon bowl and every single aspect was cooked to perfection. The seasoning on the salmon was literally perfect. Like literally. I'm not exaggerating. And it didn't hurt to find that the staff were fun and chatty. They had a lot of reviews and won an award for best grilled cheese. Curious to try the grilled cheese we decided to order one. Comes with fries but we opted for the garlic Parmesan fries. The famous surf and turf grilled cheese is what we got. It was filled with short rib shredded beef, shrimp and cheese. I can see why it was voted best grilled cheese. We live down the street and really wanted to love this place. The food has been hit or miss and often takes a long while to come out, even when it's nearly empty. Never once has anything been good enough to justify how rude the staff are. We actually thought it was a joke the first time, but we have witnessed the older lady at the cash register berating or talking down to various customers almost every time we've been in. I've seen quite a few other reviews that mention the same thing, and the owner's response is consistently to berate the person who left the review...so I guess the attitude tracks! This place is super cool and good! It has a walk up order style and seems like a locals place. They have beer, wine and food! The fries are particularly good. I think if you come around 5-6pm it can be packed. Walk up to the counter and order your food. There are menu's as well as a large menu to view. The worker is a hustler. She was bussing tables, taking orders and delivering the food. Talk about a one man show minus the cooking. Food: Pork Belly Taco with Kimchee Aioli, Hoisin Ginger Slaw and cilantro served with coconut jalapeno rice. I also had a slice of "Kailua Pork Quesadilla." Hmm at first I thought it was Kalua Pork but the menu clearly says Kailua. Unfortunately the food was just ok. I will mention that the parmesan fries were delicious. Don't go here at lunch time- it's super busy! Try coming when they first open or after the lunch rush. We waited maybe 50 minutes for our food... way too long to wait during lunch. My coworker got the pot sticker burger and I got the Cubana. Maybe it's cuz we didn't eat it right there right then but brought it back to the office since the wait took most of our lunch hour. It was extremely dry. The burger bun was way too big but the meat was actually pretty good. My cubana was okay, it was pretty plain. Fries were soggy. Came to The Promiscuous Fork with some family members after spending the day helping my niece move into her dorm during UCSD's moving weekend. We were trying to find places closer to both the campus and the beach. But after calling several places, many of them had long wait times. One of my cousins was reluctant to find The Promiscuous Fork and immediately called the restaurant to reserve a table. We got to the restaurant within 15 minutes and were seated immediately. Nice, quaint small restaurant with a beachy shack theme. Also family owned. Kinda feels like you're in Hawaii for a sec, except you're in San Diego/La Jolla haha. And the setting also reminds me of the restaurant/bar off of "Magnum P.I." (the newer version) lol. There was limited seating on the inside which felt pretty cramped. However, there's an outdoor dining area with plenty of tables to sit at. Kinda wish there was more space on the interior but nonetheless, the food was bomb-o!!!! You can actually see each entree being made from the kitchen from inside or outside the restaurant, which I thought was pretty cool. While everyone seemed to enjoy their burger dishes (Yuck-mouth, June gloom, Ring o' fire, mini beef sliders) along with some Kailua pork quesadillas, a poke bowl, fries and a bowl of brussel sprouts, I settled for the La Jolla Plate. Really like how creamy the rice is and the jalapenos and coconuts in the rice gives off a nice flavor to compliment the grilled chicken. The macaroni salad had a similar concoction to it, but overall it was good! I also had a sample of my cousin's Kailua pork quesadilla and was pretty amazed with the flavors infused all together. Somewhat disappointed that I didn't order burgers or quesadillas with everyone else, but I want to come back and try those and other things on the menu!!!! Service was a breeze for sure. HUGE KUDOS to the kind spirited blonde gal who held down the fort all by herself - serving, cashier, cleaning tables, placing to-go orders, etc. Customer service can be brutal sometimes but oh my gosh man! It wasn't brutal. I mean, I don't know how she manages to do all of these things in one setting (regardless if it's a full house) TBVH, but we're bearing with her alright!!!! Great food, great service, I will definitely be coming back. At first glance this is just your average hole-in-the-wall place, but the food here is amazing! With a huge selection of foods to choose from (Hawaiian and American BBQ inspired) we went with the crispy brussels and the short rib tacos. The brussels were so tasty and crispy while the short rib tacos were tender with just the right amount of sauce. This is gonna be my first stop next time i'm in La Jolla again. read more
