    Mango margarita

My husband and I finally are kicking ourselves for not dining at Verdes El Ranchero sooner! We were walking by and had a hankering for a margarita, so we decided to have lunch here. We were seated right away with chips and salsa brought up fairly quickly. It took us a little time to decide on what to eat, but we ordered our margaritas right away. We were surprised that essentially two glasses were brought out for each of us as the other glass was the "leftover". I ordered the enchiladas suizas and they were really good. I had leftovers. My husband got the chicken tortilla soup and a taco and he could not stop raving about the soup the next day. Our server was very friendly and patient with us as we decided on our food, though we could tell that she was very busy. We did have to request water and that took a little while to get as they got busier. They have a few tables outside in front on the sidewalk. Pricing is very reasonable. We walked here, so parking wasn't an issue for us, but only street parking is available. We'll definitely be back for the soup!

Found this place thanks to a client who lives nearby and I'm so glad it was recommended. I've only done takeout so far, but each time the service over the phone has been friendly and quick. I've ordered about 2-3 times now, and it's become my go-to when I'm in the area and craving asada fries but don't feel like driving far. The fries here hit the spot! Crispy, not soggy, and loaded up just right. I appreciated the generous amount of guac and sour cream (they don't skimp), and they didn't hold back on the cheese or asada. Everything stayed nice and warm until I got home too, which is always a win. I've also tried the quesadilla--definitely recommend! Cheesy, flavorful, and not greasy. Prices here feel about what you'd expect to pay in La Jolla- pretty reasonable for the quality and portion size. While I haven't dined in yet, I did notice they have outdoor seating and seem to get a decent amount of traffic, which says a lot. Overall, a dependable, low-key spot for classic Mexican takeout cravings.

Went here to watch the World Cup! It was packed. It is definitely a local spot. It is very cozy and homey. We ordered off happy hour. The margaritas were tangy and strong. I ordered the one pollo, one carne asada, and one fish taco. They were phenomenal. We also started with the queso. The Queso was a little watery. Overall the food and experience was great!

Yummy, authentic Mexican food!! I much prefer this to other Mexican spots in La Jolla. The ambience is festive and warm and the food is delicious.

We used to LOVE this local spot. We have seen them raise prices every time we go. This $32 beef dish was twice as big and now it's twice the price. I just don't know how you can raise prices like that and then lessen the portions significantly. They only have 1 or 2 servers during rush so hourly wage is not the problem. SUPER SAD :(

Great authentic hidden gem Mexican food in La Jolla. Met my grandpa, uncle and second cousin for lunch while visiting California over the 4th . . Nice 10-13 min walk from La Valencia hotel where i was staying . Great customer service . Great weather . Extremely reasonable prices in La Jolla . Highly recommend.

Service is great! Food comes out fast! Our waitress checked on us a few times during dinner. Food is decent and good. Not quite authentic Mexican food. Huge portions. Ambience is fun! This place looks like where a lot of young locals like to hangout. Chips and salsa came out quick! Before the menus even arrived. Hot & fresh! We ordered: Pineapple Margarita- I was hoping they were using fresh pineapple but it's basically just pineapple juice with margarita mix and heavy on the tequila. Crispy Carnitas Tacos - loaded tacos! I love that they use green leaf lettuce. The carnitas was good. Two tacos plate - hubby said their beans were good!! Chile verde plate - must be good because my son ate everything! Enchilada and Taco plate - my daughter said the enchilada was really good.

Mostly diced tomato, very little shrimp and avocado as depicted on website photos. Cost saving techniques to increase profits is my guess.

Service great & friendly staff. Food came out fast. Server was nice -did not get name, girl with tatoos :). The shrimp ceviche was not as pictured on their website. NOT whole shrimp and chunks of avocado. It is mostly diced tomato. Shrimp diced up, very small avocado slivers. See photo of remains after that. The other dish we got was way too salty. Restaurants need to cut way back on salt. It's absurd how much is put in food. Not good for us. Please consider patrons' health.

There are actually 3 or more locations (possibly bigger) throughout San Diego, but we went to the same one in La Jolla due to its proximity. Anyway, we started with their amazing Flautas just as last time. I got the same Short Rib Quesabirria, and I just can't remember what my husband ordered. I also added the Rice and Beans as sides, and we also got their Guacamole. For drinks, I think I got the Watermelon Margarita (but not sure?)...and my husband ordered some beer (??). Just as last time, we both were blown away by how good everything was. My husband is a HUGE fan of Mexican food, and I think this is still his favorite Mexican spot in San Diego...with good reason! Though nicely decorated (with new patio area as well!), I did find this place a bit too small and claustrophobic. But the foods made up for it and more. Maybe next time we'll check out its bigger sister location?

We had the sweetest and nicest young male server that was so attentive and apologetic even though it was busy we were timely served and well taken care of. The food was yummy and fresh as always. I had the short rib, filet taco, and the mushroom. The mushroom is my favorite but the filet is delicious too. My kids enjoyed the chicken and filet. The kids meal comes with a generous serving of rice and beans. Pina Agua Fresca was refreshing and yummmy too!

This place gets 4 stars- 5 if Jessica is working. We come to La Jolla from L.A. once every two months or so and this restaurant is part of the reason. I usually get the snapper sandwich with the Cajun / blackened spices and Its probably my most favorite fish sandwich I've ever eaten. The staff all look like they were born in the ocean and could surf before they could walk. One thing I did not appreciate- and this is not to get anyone in trouble but it needs to be addressed - as someone who was previously in the food industry for 10 years, the manager should really bring his employees to the side or talk quieter if he has an issue with them, not call them out on the floor within earshot of the entire patio. I'd be pissed if that was me. People can't afford to lose their job and can't say anything, so I'll say it here. Lets remember who actually makes the restaurant what it is. 10/10 WILL be back every time I'm in La Jolla.

Our favorites were the duck pasta and tomato and burrata appetizer, but everything was delicious. Highly recommend sharing everything family style - you'll want to try as much as possible! In addition to the great food, everyone here was amazing. For one, our server accidentally put in an appetizer that we didn't order, and instead of taking it away, they gave it to us as a complimentary treat. They also explained everything well, packed things up for us as we went so that we had room for new dishes, and gave a full sized cheesecake slice as the complimentary birthday dessert. The hostess was a short young woman with straight dark hair. She gave us a cold, unfriendly, almost hostile look and quietly mumbled, "Please wait." There was no smile, no warmth, no "Hi" or "Welcome" -- just a very dismissive attitude. We waited for a bit and then watched her chatting casually and comfortably with other guests. It was hard not to notice the difference in how we were treated, and honestly, it just felt uncomfortable and unnecessary. This is La Jolla, and for a restaurant at this level, we expected a basic level of hospitality and professionalism. Instead, the whole vibe was off from the moment we walked in. So we decided not to stay and simply left. First impressions matter, and unfortunately ours was a very bad one. Hopefully management takes a look at the front-of-house experience, because people absolutely notice these things. Wishing Catania the best.
