After our lovely museum tour we were in need of a refreshment. My friend ordered a latte and I got an Aqua Panna. It was quite busy for early Thursday afternoon. Lots of healthy offerings and snack Heaven. We got our drinks and enjoyed them on the patio as we people watched. Space was clean and service was good. Cute cafe, will try food next time.

A pleasant restaurant for lunch, food and fine ambiance. The hamburger was slightly over cooked and the Artichoke and Chicken Salad is a misnomer. It was very good, but you needed a microscope to find the itsy bitsy artichoke pieces. It should be called Chicken salad lightly tossed with a few artichoke pieces.

Is this a hidden gem??? Friday morning I really wanted to have a nice dinner somewhere in La Jolla. But my problem was that any good place in La Jolla will either have a long wait for walk-ins or have no reservations available on the day of. But then I discovered The Kitchen MCASD, and they had dinner reservations available for the same day!! We arrived around 6:30pm for our dinner reservation, and it was the perfect time of the day to see an amazing view of the ocean. We sat outside, and they offered blankets in addition to heat lamps! We were very comfy. Panisse -- 8/10 We ordered the panisse because I've never heard of this dish before. From my internet search, panisse is a dish from Italy/France that is mash chickpeas that are fried. Imagine if you shaped mashed potatoes into a square and then deep fried it so that the outside is nice and crispy, and the inside is soft and mushy. So the chickpeas in the panisse were enjoyable because they remind me of mash potatoes, while the outside was nice and crispy. I loved it!! Definitely a fun and enjoyable dish. Chicken schnitzel - 8/10 A good portion of chicken with a refreshing salad Salmon - 7/10 - a standard salmon dish Overall, this place is great for that seaside ambiance. Any other location that has this kind of view of the ocean would be BOOKED or very expensive. I don't know why this place isn't more crowded!

Selection of salads at a party they catered, from grilled eggplant to nectarine and burrata

Came to a party at the museum which was catered on the patio by the kitchen. I can't speak to the price value proposition for catering or for the menu prices in the restaurant, but I loved the selection of vegetarian and pescatarian salads. Really delicious grilled eggplant, quinoa salad, nectarine and burrata, and salmon in lettuce cups. The only note would be that the nectarines needed to be a little riper. But everything was delicious and beautifully presented. They also had four mini desserts, of which the best was the chocolate cookie. Definitely a great venue for a party with a great in-house caterer.

I really enjoyed a nice dinner here at the Kitchen. the view is just stunning, and the service was very kind. the burger was pretty good in my opinion, and massive!! There was a 3% service fee on the burger which I thought was interesting. overall a nice place to eat if you are going for a nicer dinner.

I hesitate to write this review because I don't want this place to get any more crowded than it is currently, but I also want to recognize this restaurant as being one of my favorites in San Diego. This restaurant is perfect for a La Jolla art museum. The architecture and layout blends nature with industry, and with the retracting window doors and almost universal natural lighting, begs the question, "Where does the beach end and the restaurant begin?" Just kidding, but it does work really well in this area. We first came here for brunch earlier this year, as it's become my partner's and my mission to try all the brunch spots in La Jolla. For brunch, this spot is my #1 in San Diego. We ordered their salmon Benedict and churro French toast, and tried a latte and a cocktail. If I had to describe everything we've tried here in one word, it would be fresh. The hot food is piping, the fruits and vegetables are bright and crisp, the dressings and sauces are light and complement the dishes well, and even the cocktails feel...somehow healthy? I especially want to highlight their churro French toast, which is one of the best dishes I had in 2024. Cinnamon sugar bread topped with mandarin oranges and mint is a combination I never knew I needed. Sweet, tart, and herbal, both crunchy and juicy, it satisfied most of my brunch cravings. So we've been back a couple times, once for brunch with friends and another time more recently for their happy hour menu, where we ordered one of everything. Although I was impressed with their happy hour items and found them all to be delicious and satisfying, I do still prefer this place for brunch (though the sunset views were choice). I love that their menu changes frequently, and that they periodically have special menu nights where they highlight an ingredient to be used in every dish. Recently they had a squash night, and a few months ago they had a tomato night. I can't wait to go to one!

    We also met Gary!

The flavors of my chicken baby kale salad were amazing. The service was super friendly and warm and the views were beautiful.

This spot has a beautiful patio outlooking la jolla shores. It was a bit gloomy when we arrived but on a sunny day this would be killer. The staff is friendly but not very attentive. I ordered the artichoke chicken salad with side salad. I requested sourdough as a substitution but was sadly given the multigrain which didnt settle with my stomach. Otherwise, this sandwich was good but bread was far too thick for my liking. My friend had the breakfast sandwich which had good flavors (in her words). Overall , i would come back and probably try other items. Took off a star because it wasnt amazing (the food) but other items looked a lot better.

A hidden gem that most people won't find without looking hard.... I only discovered this place thanks to our CM Hannah! I plan on taking my parents here one day for breakfast/sunset. The views and ambiance are very "San Diego" for those looking to experience the city if you really enjoy La Jolla. (do expect La Jolla pricing !) Service was prompt and our waitress was courteous and timely in checking in. The recently starting serving breakfast though I haven't been here for that yet and am looking forward to what they do with the place!

    Panissa - so delish!!
    Nikita P.

Dinner here did not disappoint! I had a hard time selecting a starter, but decided to order the Panissa after the waiter's recommendation. It was so delicious! I'm already wondering when I can go back to have it again =P. For my entree I had the lamb burger. It was good, but a little less amazing - probably because I messed with it by removing the olive relish (I don't like olives). It probably needed the olive relish to add a bit of zing in each bite. I still enjoyed it though and would recommend the burger. Service was wonderful. I sat outside at sunset and was worried it would be too cold, but they seated me next to a heat lamp and also gave me a small blanket for my lap. It was perfect.

An incredible restaurant. The food was so good as was the atmosphere depending on where you sat you had a beautiful view of the ocean. The people that work there are splendid. I got the avocado bowl and I couldn't have been happier. Well maybe if I've gotten some of those potatoes that my friend had in her the basic, luckily she shared. I highly recommend going. My latte was pretty good also.

If you are expecting to come here on a weekend, I recommend making a reservation beforehand. We had to wait ~20min because tables were booked up. The food here is pretty and fresh. We got the chicken kebab and a breakfast sandwich. The chicken kebab was with cous cous and tasted really healthy. I kinda of wished I got something else since I like my Mediterranean food with more sauces. The dish was a bit dry for me. The breakfast sandwich was yummy! This is an outdoor restaurant or the inside portion is still open air. There is a nice view of the beach but you can probably only see it sitting down if you are by the overlooking wall.

So many different online forums recommended this restaurant as one with good food and a great ocean view. We were luckily to get a table. It was packed for lunch on a weekday. My soup and salad were both so full of flavor and delicious. I'm so glad we stopped in. This place did not disappoint.

I ordered a few drinks for my friends and me to try since it was our first time here, and we were heading to the beach after. They hand-whisk their matcha for each drink, which I really appreciate because most matcha spots in San Diego pre-make theirs. I got the regular matcha latte. I assumed it would already be sweetened, but it wasn't, which wasn't a big deal for me since I prefer little to no sweetness. It was still really good: perfect consistency, and you can definitely taste the matcha. My cousin got the matcha cream top (similar to a matcha einspänner), and I loved their vanilla bean syrup(?) that was included in the drink. It had the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess. My friends also tried the orange latte, and they were pleasantly surprised by the cream on top. The orange flavor was noticeable but still subtle, and the coffee itself was strong. The syrups balanced everything out nicely. Definitely would come back again!

The strawberry matcha was good -- I'd rate it around a 7/10 (and I say that as a matcha lover). It had a nice flavor, but I've definitely had stronger matcha elsewhere. The black sesame latte was my favorite. You can really taste the sesame, which gave it a rich, nutty flavor that stood out compared to other lattes I've tried. Overall, I'm really happy I found this spot and would come back. Next time, I'd love to try more of their drinks -- especially to compare their sesame latte with others.

I love that they have tons of seating, a full menu, and parking available. ATMOSPHERE: 5/5 There's lots of seating both indoors and outdoors, and despite packing in a good amount of tables, the space never feels cramped. It's a great option for a coffee date, working while snacking, or just hanging out for a while. The layout makes it easy to settle in without feeling rushed. SERVICE: 4/5 Service is reasonably friendly and polite. My only complaint is that a couple of times I've gone they've seemed short-staffed - not at all the fault of the employees, just something to be aware of if you walk in and don't immediately see or get greeted by anyone. COFFEE: 3.5/5 They have a lot of coffee options on the menu, which is a big plus. So far I've tried the Macadamia Nut Latte (iced, oat milk): 3.5/5 and the Vanilla Latte (iced, oat milk): 4/5. The macadamia nut latte wasn't terribly flavorful, so I probably wouldn't order it again, but if you prefer a latte that isn't sweet, this could actually be perfect for you. The vanilla latte was pretty standard; nothing to write home about, but no real complaints either. I'd happily order it again, especially if I was also grabbing food or planning to sit and work for a bit. FOOD: 4/5 They have a very extensive food menu, which is a big plus. Lots of options across bagels, pastries, toasts, and sandwiches - both savory and sweet. I ordered the Turkey Sandwich, which was tasty and fresh, but I was a bit underwhelmed by the amount of meat. If you're expecting a classic, stacked deli sandwich, you might be disappointed. That said, the flavor and overall quality were still very good. I also love that this spot opens fairly early. If I'm meeting someone for coffee and conversation in this part of Bird Rock, this is usually my first choice.

Aloha Yelpers,…read more Reviews can be subjective and often just reflect how we felt in the moment--sometimes good, sometimes bad. As a business owner and someone who frequents a lot of establishments around the world, I'm always paying extra attention to how different brands and teams operate. After being a regular at Parakeet for the last 6 years, I felt inclined to finally write a review, based purely on appreciation for the all-star team at this location (Kayla, Janelle, Neda, Hailey, Regina, Michelle, Calvin, and all the cooks crushing it in the kitchen daily) and everything they bring to the community. BIG VIBES & Customer Experience Biggest one on the checklist. The energy is always on point from the second I walk in to the second I leave. The entire staff is friendly, welcoming, authentic, and genuinely cares about making the experience top-tier. Also worth noting, they're up at 5 AM to open at 7 AM... which is already heroic. On top of that, this location gets its fair share of entitled, unfriendly, and straight-up rude customers (I've seen it firsthand on the daily). Even then, the ladies and Calvin handle it with patience, professionalism, and still keep the good energy going. That shit is not easy. Attention to Detail Regina and Hailey run a tight operation day to day. Their attention to detail and consistency is honestly unmatched. I've been to plenty of spots around the neighborhood, and no one has it as dialed in as they do. They are also better dressed than other managers in the biz. BIG STYLE POINTS Problem Solving I've watched this team navigate everything--broken equipment, unhappy customers, clogged toilets (lol), bad weather, and difficult delivery drivers yelling at them through Google Translate. And they handle it all without missing a beat and staying composed. Meanwhile, I've seen other places completely implode in similar situations--blaming each other or arguing instead of solving the problem. Not the case here. Always solution-oriented. Extra props to Janelle for unclogging the toilet and Kayla for chasing a grasshopper out the door when it jumped on a table. Yessahhh Consistency Food and drinks are always consistent--fresh, well-seasoned, proper temp, and clean presentation. The cooks are back there working hard but still somehow having a good time while pushing out orders for both dine-in and delivery. The girls and Calvin on bar are always crushing it. Espresso is never burnt, matcha is smooth (no clumpy, low-tier stuff), and the latte art is always on point. Shoutout to Neda, Hailey, Regina, and Calvin for keeping things fast and high quality. Cleanliness Everything is always clean, smells good, and actually put away where it belongs. No shakshuka stains on tables, no scone crumbs everywhere, no sticky coffee floors, no overflowing trash cans--things that, somehow, have become the norm at other nearby spots. All in all, I never leave reviews, so the fact that I'm writing this says something lol. Hopefully whoever reads this--regulars, upper management, or owners--recognizes that this all-star team is what makes this Parakeet location special, and a big reason it continues to bring GREAT VIBES to LJ LET'S GET THEM A PAY RAISE!! From the moment you walk in, you can feel the care and intention behind it all, a genuine commitment to clean, high-quality ingredients that's so rare to find. My wife, my kids, my closest friends, and I have been loyal customers since Jonathan and Carol first opened their original location, and what incredible people they are. Their warmth, vision, and passion shine through in everything Parakeet has become. Since they opened the La Jolla location, it's been our go-to. I bring my family here all the time, along with friends and clients, and every single visit feels just as wonderful as the last. Beyond the food, everything about the experience feels intentional, from the beautiful presentation to the consistently great service and welcoming atmosphere. Whether it's a coffee, a matcha, or one of their thoughtfully prepared dishes, everything tastes fresh, balanced, and made with love. I also want to give a heartfelt shoutout to the incredible team: Janelle, Kayla, Neda (who honestly makes the best flat white I've ever had), Hailey, and especially Regina (and I'm sure I'm missing someone...sorry if I did!). As the manager, Regina sets the tone for the entire space. You can feel her leadership in how smoothly everything runs, she's attentive, genuinely welcoming, and always making sure guests feel taken care of. She truly elevates the entire experience. The whole staff contributes to such a warm, positive energy. Everyone is kind, helpful, and consistently makes you feel welcomed and appreciated as a guest. It's the kind of place that feels like family. Parakeet Cafe is one of those rare spots you leave feeling better than when you walked in. Great food, Great energy, and incredible people. Huge thanks to Jonathan, Carol, Regina, and the entire team for creating something so special, we'll absolutely keep coming back.
