Salmon with Basmati Herb Rice
Jay D.

My first time on a Wednesday evening, I got the salmon bowl with herbed rice to go - very delicious & nice portion size! I liked the lemony tabouli piled high on top of the rice. Very friendly service, and didn't have to wait too long, they were busy with both dine-in & take-out orders, which is always a good sign. I even went back for some baklava! I love the different options for mains on the menu - salads, bowls, entrees, wraps...thank you for a delicious dinner!

5 Stars for Marketplace Grille!!! All the skewers are so good. Highly, highly recommend the Filet Mignon Skewer.

First time trying their food and their salmon bowl was absolutely flavorful. My friend recommended it and I'm glad I went with it. The hummus and pita was delicious but I can see myself ordering this salmon bowl again if ever I'm around the area. Service was great, Jackie assisted me with my order. The weather was pleasant so sitting outside was just perfect since I also had my dog with me and Jackie was very kind enough to give a bowl of water to my dog too.

I came to Marketplace Grille today for the first time since 2019 and was so happy that it was still the amazing food I remembered. I told my co-worker that outside of my Mom's home cooked food, this is easily top 3 Mediterranean restaurants in San Diego. I highly recommend the chicken plate or bowl. They cook the chicken kabob on coals, and it's phenomenal. I would get the herb rice, and always get the side of hummus with the pita bread. It is amazing hummus. Owners and servers are nice, they've owned it forever. Great location, very quiet, lots of outdoor tables. This has quickly become my favorite lunch spot in La Jolla.

Chicken & Salmon combo plate with herb rice is amazing! The sides are delicious too. 10/10 recommend going here when you're in the area

Soup of the day

So disappointed. As you walk up, the aroma from outside immediately have your mouth watering. Inside, basic counter service, and a very basic menu that really doesn't describe everything, but you could see a gentleman cooking the fantastic, smelling meat over hot coals-off to a great start! We ordered the soup of the day, a chicken vegetable, an order of baba ganoush, a small Greek salad, and a lamb wrap. The soup was decent and tasted homemade. The baba ganoush tasted over lemony and not very smoky. Greek salad was dressed well, but missing a couple key ingredients (to me, in a greek salad, like cucumbers). The lamb wrap was blah. Not very much meat, didn't taste like lamb (or even a lamb/beef mix), nor did it have any wood fired taste. Service was friendly and its open patio seating so there were LOTS of dogs. Not against dogs, i just dont like eating w animals, and that being the only option for seating.

Had the wahoo bowl. Herb rice and tabbouleh were good. Exciting that they grill over charcoal. Sadly the fish was really dry.

Love love their salads and bowls, it's always so fresh and full of flavors!!! The chicken is so tender and juicy. I could eat this food everyday!

It was my first time with my family to try this place and it was outstanding experience. We ordered couple items and we shared everything. We . Hummus is taste and the beef grill is a must. Tabule was good and all other appetizers. They have nice outdoor seating, and food seemed especially flavorful in those surround. Thank you Tony for the great service. Not too many parkings.

Everything was pretty good! I ordered both the filet and the sirloin skewers. Then I got the grilled potatoes, the herb rice and the veggies. The way they cook is super healthy and good! There are only some casual outdoor tables and no service so I decided to get my food to go and eat it home. Even by the time I went home it all tasted wonderful. Wish they had a better outdoor ambiance to enjoy the meals.

Chicken wrap-nothing to rave about. Picked out the chicken and pickles and threw the rest out =[

Lackluster lunch with not very friendly service. Got the chicken wrap, which I actually thought the chicken was pretty moist and flavorful but lots of iceberg lettuce and bland sauce I didn't care for. I was glad I ordered a small order of shirazi salad which came with pita because I essentially deconstructed the wrap and redid it with the shirazi salad and accompanying pita. Would've liked a garlic sauce or something to break up how bland the wrap overall tasted. The pickled veggies inside the wrap were pretty good but overall just didn't do it for me. The server was friendly but the guy at the register seemed unfriendly and dismissive when I asked for to-go containers. Wouldn't make a trip out to this place again or really stop by since there are other better places in the area to have a quick lunch.

Vegetable Barley Soup

Outstanding service and food!!! A must try when you are in La Jolla! The owner greeted us when we walked in and explained all the dishes. I had looked up the menu before our visit and chose a variety of items to try: artichoke, soups of the day, white rice with 3 skewers (chicken, shrimp and salmon). The owner gave us complimentary soups to try so we could taste both. We ordered the vegetable barley soup. The patio area is relaxing and casual. The owner kept checking on us and it made the whole experience perfect. My top 3 recommendations: salmon skewer, chicken curry soup, and artichoke. The flavors of the artichoke and dip are savory. Marketplace Grille creates phenomenal food and you will absolutely not be disappointed!!!

We called to add a couple extra people, and then those people didn't show; they rolled with the punches. The table was set when we got there. Service throughout was friendly, prompt, over and above. Ambiance was great, in a very important way: There was nice music, but you could hear yourself think! Nobody had to repeat themselves a million times. Perfect sound level for a group our size. But the food was the absolute star of the show. Literally everything was perfect. For shareable appetizers, we got both the trio and the mezze plate. It was basically hummus flights, with pita triangles and multicolored carrots. All the hummus types were delicious. But a special shout-out to the truffle hummus--it was divine. It was very truffle-y, but it was also very light and creamy. Somehow that's not a combo I expected. Next, I'm already a falafel fan, but good *Lord* their falafel was unreal. Some kind of perfect crispiness on the outside and soft flakiness inside that I've never experienced before in falafel. I asked the server what he'd recommend, and he said beef kebab. I got the beef kebab. He was not wrong. The meat itself was sumptuous. And I just moved from Texas, where every other backyard BBQ has someone smoking their brisket for 18 hours. This was the kind of cook where even the marbling melts in your mouth. Even the carrots were good, I don't know what to tell ya. 10/10.

It felt very fancy and was one of the most exotic things I have eaten in a long time. We also got the dolmas (grapes leaves) and the Bolani (turnover stuffed with leek and potatoes) as an appetizer. Lastly, for drinks we got a Cherry Blossom Tea (Sheer Chai). Again, it tasted like nothing I have ever ordered before, which is hard to do because we are adventurous eaters. It tasted like cream straight from the cow mixed with a cherry blossom-y and strawberry-ish Chai flavor+ black tea flavor. One of the best drinks that I have experienced in 2025 by far. For the La Jolla neighborhood and how fancy the inside feels, the prices were similar to any regular sit down restaurant. Decent food but we had issues ordering DoorDash delivery for a work lunch. The DoorDash driver only brought 1 bag of food with more than half of our food missing so a team member had to go in person to figure out the problem. Turns out another driver took our second bag so Micheline's remade the lost orders. They must've been so busy since they should've verified with the first DoorDash driver which orders were whose and some of our orders had missing or different ingredients. There were a couple little hiccups with the drinks during the evening, but honestly nothing major enough to take away from the experience. My only real criticism was with the hors d'oeuvres service. They kept bringing the appetizers to the same table instead of circulating to the different spots where our group was seated, which created a bit of a bottleneck at times. I think it would have flowed much more smoothly if the servers had distributed the food more evenly around each corner of the event space. That said, between the atmosphere, the views, and the overall vibe, it was still a really memorable evening in a gorgeous location.
