Came here for buzzy hour after finding out about this place on social media. Parking was a challenge since it's deep in La Jolla but the place itself has a fantastic view of the beach. We were seated immediately and service was excellent throughout the whole experience. The real reason that got our attention was the $1 oysters as part of their buzzy (happy) hour. We originally thought it was a joke but we were so glad to be proven wrong. The oysters were excellent. We also tried the mini crab cakes and truffle fries. The crab cakes were delicious but the size did not justify the price but I would get again. The truffle fries were excellent. Crispy and a generous portion which I love. We paired the food with some buzzy hour drinks as well, the spritz and sensory overload. Both are a must in my opinion. Overall, great experience and and excellent happy hour. Really disappointing experience, especially because I was looking forward to trying this place. We ordered the 10 oysters ($10), meatballs ($9), slider ($7), truffle fries ($6), mini crab cakes ($9) The biggest issue was the portion sizes and value. The $7 slider is tiny. At that price and given the size, you would hope to get two. The mini crab cakes were honestly the most insulting portion I have ever seen at a restaurant. For $9, the portion was almost comical. At a minimum, you should be getting 4 or 5 pieces. The meatballs were actually decent sized and tasted good, but for $9 you should get a third. The fries were okay, but came out lukewarm. Then they charge another $2 for a very small amount of garlic aioli. I understand this is La Jolla, but the value just isn't there. Either increase the portion sizes or cut the prices in half so they actually match what you're getting. I really wanted to like this place, but I left feeling dirty and ripped off. Stopped by here for happy hour to try out their food, but the food was very mid. We normally try out happy hour before trying out a restaurant's main courses and it didn't leave me wanting to come back for more. My favorite plate on their menu was their mini crab cakes, but they were truly mini. All the portions were the smallest I've had from a HH menu. The oysters were $1, but I've had much better quality, the cocktail sauce tasted store bought with no house made spicy sauce. The octopus ceviche was a spoonful amount and had 2 pieces of octopus and the rest was pineapple and cucumber, the meatballs were okay. I would have expected this restaurant to have much higher quality food, but there are many more places with much better food in San Diego. Came here for happy hour and then pleasantly surprised that it was also restaurant week. We had happy hour cocktails (fruity), chicken skewers, octopus ceviche, fries, and crab cakes. And then for restaurant week I had the pita/trio of dips, pesto linguine, and lemon custard tart. My friend had the beet salad, roasted chicken, and churros. We had a great experience....server was attentive and could tell he took pride in his work. Food quality was great. Pita/dips is excellent portion/quality. They are served up deliciously with mignonette and horseradish! We also ordered the octopus ceviche that reminded me of a dish I had in Lisbon. I would like to leave this message for the management team. The service at this restaurant was honestly unacceptable. I visited around 4.20 PM on Tuesday when the restaurant was not busy. I constantly had to look for my server, whenever I needed something. No one seemed interested in checking on guests or providing basic service. What frustrated me the most was the attitude. When my server finally came to my table, her attitude and choice of words were rude and completely inappropriate for someone working in hospitality. After this experience, I'm not surprised to see so many reviews mentioning poor service. On July 9th my husband, a few friends of mine & I had reservations at Beeside Balcony for a Table of 4. Right off top, the server/hostess who checked for our reservations said the reservation wasn't booked. We were bummed out & headed to eat elsewhere, but we ended up getting an alert on our phone that we had placed. We thought score! $1 oysters here we come! After we sat down our server Lucy "F" had taken our cocktails & HH menu order. Immediately, Lucy began rubbing us wrong with her attitude and side eye. BUT as servers ourselves, we thought she could be having a bad day.. we let that slide. Mind you, the restaurant WAS NOT busy!! We began to try to enjoy our cocktails & oysters that we were initially there for. Being servers, we didn't want to order just from the HH menu, we wanted to spend a good amount, so we can tip 20-30% . We get it, we understand, we are in the industry. Unfortunately, the service was horrible!! The oysters were below sub par (haha! Getting what we paid for) We had to call for Lucy a few times, since she was not attentive. She did not refill our waters, our food took longer than the other tables that got there later than us. Finally, we drew the line.. we called her over to ask her what the looks were for & if she had a problem with us (because we were the only Asians there) She expressed that we had called her too many times & began raising her voice. The other customers began to stare at the unnecessary commotion. As we were still in the middle of our meals, we loss our appetite & wanted our check. We felt belittled, disrespected, mostly embarrassed. If she had taken care of our table, honestly we would've spent at least $400+ given her 20%-30%. We wanted to order more food & drinks. We will not be returning to that restaurant with mediocre oysters. She ended up with $0 tip, they added an automatic surcharge. Lucy, her initial sums it all up.. Went here for happy hour on Sunday. They have daily happy hour, including $1 oysters, which is a huge deal for my boyfriend who's from New England! As you can see in the photo, we ordered a ton for the four of us. Our waiter was very accommodating and friendly, and would always check up on us providing great service. They also have $4 beers and little happy hour meals that you can order for a great deal. The location is also great and has ocean views from the outside deck. We had a group dinner here our first night in town and the outdoor setting was lovely on a cool, spring evening. We started with charcuterie and spread boards which were good; the artichoke spread was a winner for me! The wine list had great options by the glass and I broke rules pairing a pinot noir with fish, but did not get any judgmental looks about that. If you're planning to visit, make sure you specifically request the Honeypot area. It's located inside Beeside Balcony, but you won't automatically be seated there--you have to ask for it. The Honeypot is definitely the highlight, with a really cute, cozy, and unique ambiance that makes the experience feel more special. As for the restaurant itself, it is not the same as their honeypot menu & the food they had instead - I didn't love it. The prices felt pretty high for the quality of the food, and it just didn't quite meet my expectations based off how good the food was in their other area. Nothing was terrible, but it wasn't anything I'd go out of my way to come back for, especially considering the cost. Overall, I'd recommend checking it out for the Honeypot experience and ambiance, but I personally wouldn't go for the food alone. read more

I went here for a business lunch and the staff were friendly and attentive, appropriately fast. I got the beeyoutiful bowl and it was a disappointment, especially for the price. It was less of a bowl and more of a salad with a small dash of toppings. I associate bowls as heavier than salads with more emphasis on the combinations (quinoa, beans, etc). I expected this to be like a bowl you'd get at Luna Grill, but elevated. This bowl was almost all arugula--there were 5 cherry tomatoes, a small sprinkle of quinoa that you could barely find, and a dozen garbanzo beans and edamame. For $20, it was not filling even when I finished the rest I took to go right after at the beach. Again, kudos to the staff, but the food was extremely underwhelming this time around. Review is for the speakeasy: Disappointed on What Should've Been a Magical Evening! I don't take writing bad reviews lightly especially when it comes to San Diego establishments. But when you're dining in La Jolla, where locals and tourists alike come expecting quality, there's a certain standard you just can't overlook. If you're going to rely on visitors from Del Mar, Coronado, or out of town to carry your business, you still need to win over the locals especially those who come ready to celebrate and spend money. This missed the mark entirely. My wife and I made a reservation at BeeSide Balcony for a 5:45 PM seating during my birthday weekend. We arrived about 10 minutes early, excited to enjoy what looked like a magical little floral hideaway. The ambiance was stunning--no denying that. We were seated with a sense of awe, ready for a special evening. But then... nothing. For the next 30 minutes, we waited. No greeting from a server, no menus just a single glass of water left by the hostess. We explored the space, took photos, admired the setting... but no one ever checked in. Eventually, I approached the hostess (the only person who remembered seating us) just to be acknowledged. That alone was frustrating, especially for such a well-presented La Jolla location. When the food finally arrived, it unfortunately echoed the service uninspired and underwhelming. The fries, sliders, and chicken lollipops were lukewarm at best. And those "lollipops"? More like oddly-cut chicken skewers on sticks--definitely not what the menu described. The drinks were also a letdown. I ordered the Cucumber Collins and my wife had the Honey Apricot both looked great but tasted unfinished, like something was just... missing. I also judge restaurants by their bathrooms, and I couldn't help but notice how cheap and poorly maintained yours is compared to the cost of the food. For the prices being charged, you could at least invest in upgrades and ensure it smells clean. Other locations in the area do a much better job maintaining a consistent level of cleanliness and elegance throughout the entire restaurant. What made it worse was the silence. The assigned server never once apologized for the delay, never acknowledged the wait, and offered no explanation. It was a level of unprofessionalism that left us embarrassed for even recommending the place to begin with. Thankfully, we salvaged the night by going elsewhere but what was supposed to be a joyful, pre-celebration cocktail hour turned into a disappointing start to my birthday. Maybe we came too early. Maybe it was just an off day. But professionalism should never clock in late and at this price point, neither should quality. Not recommending BeeSide Balcony Speakeasy at this time. The setting is gorgeous, no doubt but the service and execution need to match the promise. I may return someday, but it won't be for a special occasion. And next time, my expectations will be much lower. read more

It's a Friday at lunch and we were a little early for the lunch crowd. The hostess seated us promptly and the server was very nice and accommodating. Started with a refreshing lavender honey lemonade. I could taste the honey and the lemonade was a bit faint. The drink didn't quite look as lovely as the Yelp photo of it. I also ordered the Spanish Octopus because it looked exotic and appetizing also on Yelp. However, the server noticing I was looking at the photo said that the Spanish Octopus was no longer served whole. That it would be chopped up but still tasty. I was disappointed, but I went ahead and ordered it. It was very delicious, but I would've liked it to be a whole piece. I wonder why it was no longer served whole. Not great. Took the family here after a school event nearby. Was looking for a nice dinner in La Jolla with some good afternoon/early evening ambiance. Was a bit disappointed. First, we were unable to be seated on the front balcony although plenty of open tables (was informed that a private event was going to take place later so they were not seating parties on the front balcony. Okay, understood). Next our server wasn't very welcoming or friendly, just sort of brief and cold. An incorrect drink was brought out to the table, which was fine, however the server didn't have a friendly response when we told them it was the incorrect drink. Just grabbed it off the table and went to replace it with a new one, seemingly annoyed. The table and menus smelled like dirty rag water. Definitely not pleasant and not what I expected from a restaurant of this caliber (or any restaurant really). You could imagine the response from the server(s) if this was brought up. Because I didn't want to make the already not so great experience, worse, I let that be. Another dissapointment was with how the servers/staff respond to you. Addressing customers/clients with "yo what up boss, I can get that" is not very professional in any business or setting. Especially to older families or adults. I'm not their college buddy. One of the biggest issues that I took was that we arrived 10 minutes before the end of happy hour and were seated before the end of happy hour, yet, when we asked about the happy hour specials we were told that they couldnt do happy hour anymore and that they do a last order/call, 15 minutes before the end of happy hour? I've never come across a place, ending happy hour 15 minutes before the stated time. Why not say that happy hour is from X hour to 5:45pm instead of to 6pm then? Just not great service. Enjoyed a girls day out to the Birch Aquarium and had lunch afterwards. Beeside Balcony was a great choice. Wasn't busy when we arrived at 11:30am but did start to get busy as it became lunchtime. We had the burger with fries, rockfish sandwich with fries and the Spanish octopus plate. We all enjoyed our dishes! I'm not usually into octopus but it was pretty tasty. The views of La Jolla from the restaurant were awesome. It was a bit gloomy in San Diego on that day but still nice out. I'd recommend trying this place if you haven't already. Great location and the food was good but service had many issues. The place was full but not packed when we arrived. There were plenty of people working there and walking around but everything took forever. I think for over 2.5 hours, maybe even longer. We came during restaurant week but didn't get offered the special menu and had to ask. I got my drink promptly but my friend was a few minutes after me there and we didn't see the server to order food or her drink for probably 20mins. We had the 3 course menu from restaurant week.We asked to deliver things to the table as they become available as we will be sharing appetizers and deserts. I had pita with dips. And it took at least 30mins to get it. We were starving. The second dish came while we were still having the appetizer which was great. But we didn't get the desert until we asked which also took forever. By that time there were barely any people left in the restaurant so it made no sense it will take that long. read more

BeeSide Balcony has become one of our absolute favorite restaurants in La Jolla. I hosted my birthday party here last year, and it could not have been a better choice. They even have a hidden speakeasy in the back that's perfect for private parties or special gatherings. It's unique, stylish, and such a fun surprise for guests. The food is always outstanding. Their rotating seasonal menu keeps things fresh, and everything I've tried has been excellent. The seafood and Mediterranean dishes stand out, and their fish and chips are among the best in the area. The salmon was exquisite, the appetizers are always delicious, and their baklava cake is simply unforgettable. Honestly, every dessert we've tried has been phenomenal, but the baklava cake is my personal favorite. On top of the food, their wine list and bar menu are excellent and reasonably priced, which makes the whole experience even better. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff and management are consistently fantastic. They're friendly, attentive, and genuinely make you feel at home. BeeSide Balcony is also wonderfully dog friendly, which means our pup gets to enjoy the experience right alongside us. Every staycation we do in La Jolla includes at least two visits here because we love it that much. Thank you to the entire team at BeeSide Balcony for creating such a special place. The area of this restaurant is pretty nice they have nice lighting with good music and kind staff, however, I did have my reservation at 8:30PM and did not start eating until and hour and a half later since they were behind, and when my steak got here it was barely warm. The steak was way too greasy along with the fries and it was completely bloody. Luckily the shrimp linguini was actually hot and tasted amazing: the sauce was very herbal and the shrimp was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Maybe it was just a bad day for them since it was valentine's day and they were busy but still i should have at least gotten some hot food after waiting and hour and a half for the reservation i made two weeks ago. read more

We had came here for an anniversary and this spot accommodated us in regards to all of the above. The food was amazing. I really would recommend the mussels Maisson, the poutine, and the Spanish octopus. Everything was solid and was cooked to perfection. Also in regard to the ambiance, I highly enjoyed the balcony. It was perfect for our anniversary as we had the best seat in the whole restaurant. In addition this spot has bottomless mimosas for brunch. Definitely would recommend.
