My friend and I tried this place for the first time the other day. We ordered online and it was ready to pickup within about 10-15 minutes. I got the far out sandwich and it was really good but the portion size for it being $20 is overpriced. My friend's chicken Caesar wrap was about $20 too. The Caesar wrap was good too but it should come with a side of extra Caesar dressing. I wouldn't come often since it's overpriced but I'd be open to trying other sandwiches. read more

What a crazy cute spot! Great post beach sando shop. Parking is tough. I got the vegan legend and it was tasty- lots of sprouts pickles, spinach, onions and a curry-ish sauce. The bread is toasted and a bit crisp but I liked it. The best parts are the laid back vibe and the outdoor seating. In the front there are some spots but the back with there is a coffee vendor, cocktail seating and another little jewelry shop. Would also be great to meet up and chill with friends. Wonderful establishment tucked behind on turquoise street (guys put up a street sign so people can find ur bizz bc howd i live here for 4 years and just now found this place). Greeted with compliments and genuine hellos. Said it felt like we were in someones living room and a staff member said "you are". Lots of sando options, got some recommendations from andrew working the regi. Landed on a tri tip sub and a ceasar wrap (i have a thing with ceasar wraps and had to try theirs but I would say try a sando on first go bc thats likely their forte. Will be back to try all of them. I had the tri tip sandwich and it was quite dry and in need of a sauce of some sort like a side of salsa which is how I've normally had them. The yard had limited shade so was hard to enjoy sitting there on a hot midday afternoon. Will try another sandwich for pickup and see if that changes anything. The only thing I'd skip is the Italian sandwich ("Forget About It"). It was overwhelmingly salty, sooo bread-heavy, and felt like it was mostly salami and prosciutto. For the price, you're almost better off getting a veggie sandwich from Sprouts--it's bigger, costs less than half, and comes packed with more toppings. Honestly you're better going anywhere else. Starvin' Marvin's is a new sandwich shop operating out of a converted residence in the North PB neighborhood. The marker on its Yelp listing is not accurate as the business is about a block south near the corner of La Jolla Blvd and Wrelton Dr. The best bet is to find a curbside spot on the boulevard and walk over. The enclosed front patio had a few high top tables if you wanted to dine al fresco. There was definitely a surfer vibe to the place. Six sandwiches, seven flatbreads, and two salads made up the menu from Chef Colby. The first listed sandwich (Marv's Tubular Tri Tip) was my choice. A crisped French roll was filled with roasted tri-tip, melted pepper jack cheese, and horseradish topped with arugula, onion, and balsamic vinaigrette. The meat was almost completely covered by the arugula. I wouldn't have guessed the cut was tri-tip because it looked and tasted more like braised beef pulled into shreds. The flavor combination was sharp with the peppery nature of arugula and the pungency of the horseradish. The sandwiches ranged in price from $15 to $19 while the flatbreads were similar between $16 and $19. I believe there was a discount offered on Wednesdays for the flatbreads. For the quality and price of my sandwich, I gave a four star rating for my experience at Starvin' Marvin's. read more

We got super lucky where we were fortunate enough to visit them on their last working day before they jet off on their holiday break. The 2 guys working at the shop were super friendly and we got to chatting about how they'll be back in Jan so check in on their socials to confirm when they'll be open again! I tried the tri tip tubular and the first thing I noticed was how MASSIVE the sandwiches were. It's a proper footlong with generous portions of their tri tip. I liked the arugula and Marvs horseradish which helped brighten the sandwich. This is definitely a must try if you like tri tip and big portions. They were already soldout of some sandwiches by mid-afternoon so I recommend if you have something specific you want to try, call ahead or get there earlier. Another thing to note is that they make the sandwiches fresh to order once you're there in-person and not ahead the way it was intended so don't come here if you're looking for something too quick. They definitely put a lot of love into the sandwich making! The shop is inside a house tucked inside a cute shared, outdoor patio space where you can also pair your sandwich with coffee or wine, and shop for clothes and jewelry all in the same space.
