The Promiscuous Fork is a hole-in-the-wall shop that offers incredible service, delicious food, and plenty of ammenities (self-serve water, plenty of sauces to choose from, napkins readily available). Some notes: - Wonderful service, was helped immediately and was offered guidence as to what to order. Servers were friendly and informative. - Prices are high for a college student, but standard for La Jolla. Maybe even on the cheap side in comparison. - Best mac & cheese I've had in a long time. They do it right! - Outdoor seating is secluded enough to the point where you don't even recognize you're sitting in the middle of a parking lot. Free one hour parking, or parking on the street if you need longer. - Open kitchen is a nice touch! I would come back to try other menu items, or just for the mac & cheese. Truly a "fun foodie joint". I try to give out 5 stars sparingly, but this deserves it!
Hands down during our visit our best meal was served by The Promiscuous Fork in La Jolla. The ambiance and service is extremely laid back making this a place for everyone to come, converse, and experience well crafted food. I can't even explain how delicious and layered my Veggie bowl was; the rice had a green sauce that gave the rice a velvety texture and the veggies were crispy, not overly charred, or stemmed. I wish The Promiscuous Fork would do me the greatest favor and just add location in Seattle that would be forever happy. Until then I will keep finding reasons to plan trips to La Jolla so I can have dinner at The Promiscuous Fork; I highly recommend!
We ate outside with the pooch and enjoyed wonderful service with a smile. Blood Orange beer is refreshing with the tacos. The inside ambience is beach taco shop as it should be and it delivers mouth popping flavors
Food was good! Prices are fair, especially for La Jolla. We felt a little awkward with the service, I think it was because we were the only two inside but it kinda felt like we were a bother to the staff. I really enjoyed my burger and took half to go. I wanted seafood since we were by the water but some of the menu combinations were a bit odd for my taste. Seems like they had regulars that were coming and going so that's a good sign of a promising spot!
We came hungry and we left utterly satisfied. This is my kinda food. If I lived in La Jolla, I'd be here weekly and I'd try everything on the menu. Can't go wrong. Nutrient dense options, distinct flavors, well executed and beautifully plated. Tried the following: Salmon bowl Beetnick salad w/ delicious lemon basil dressing Crispy Brussels sprouts La Jolla Plate Recommend it all! Service was great, too. I wanted a traditional NA kombucha. They don't serve that, but she suggested I could go next door to the convenience store that sold what I was looking for and she approved me bringing that to the table. Kind customer service. We ate outdoors and enjoyed the small parklet and fresh air. I'll be dreaming of my next visit. What a gem of an eatery.
My wife and I came here to try the food based on some of the pictures and reviews that we had seen. I tried the poke bowl and she had the yuck mouth burger. Neither blew us away. The rice was hot with the poke bowl, which caused the poke to be warmer than you would normally want. They had a pretty good taste, but wasn't one of the better Poké bowls I've ever had. The burger had a pretty good flavor, but was a little lackluster. We liked that they fry their fries in beef, tallow, and pretty decent.
After a long day of travel, we picked up dinner here to bring back to our hotel room. The space is small but so cozy and uplifting. The owner answered all my questions and helped me decide on menu items and they did not disappoint. Their poke bowl was refreshing and comforting at the same time. One of the best things I had on my trip. My kids inhaled the Mac and cheese and loved it. Would definitely come back again to try more menu items.
Found this place when we were checking out a nearby coffee shop.. Good juicy burger and fries fried in beef tallow.. Great friendly service Unassuming spot with casual indoor and outdoor dining
Ambiance in the inside of this place was amazing! The decor was like a little snip in Hawaii with beautiful paintings. The woman who took our order was well-versed in the menu and what would fulfill our cravings. She was super sweet as well! It was a little pricey though. The fries were nothing out of the ordinary. We also got: The Notorious P.I.G.: Super savory and the pork belly was juicy and tender! Would definitely get again! Best Fork'n Chicken Sandwich: Super good and I loved the pesto sauce that it came with!
Excellent example of little hole-in-wall with helpful, friendly service and fantastic food. Nice little tap selection. Of every place we've eaten in La Jolla, this was The One we'd return to! When local patrons sing praises to you upon entering, it's great.
I ordered the shortrib mac and cheese and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! The meat was moist and seasoned well and the cheese wasn't so gooey that it wasn't enjoyable. It was delicious and although I felt it could've been priced lower for a place that you order at a counter, it was a good experience. There is plenty of free parking and only blocks away from a quiet beach.
We were in the area and stumbled on this place. Parking was easy but very tight or there's street parking. I ordered the yuck mouth; it was delicious with the bun on the sweet side. It's called yuck mouth for a reason, keep that in mind if you are going out after or you are on a date. It's a small place but they do have outdoor seating which is nice and service was great.

We are a group of 5 trying out their happy hour. At Promiscuous Fork there wasn't anyone in our group who couldn't find something they really liked. Great place for Happy Hour and beyond! This place has been here for 14 years. And everyone feels like family. Kind and welcoming with a great variety of choices carefully curated. Clearly one of the unexpected best in La Jolla (Bird Rock entry area). Jan, her granddaughter and son are all hooked on the Lamb Lollipops, not on happy hour. She says: "They're really charred, really good and I love the Balsamic Glaze. I could eat these once a week". Judy's favorites are Smashburger and the Grilled Caesar Salad. Robyn loves the Caesar too! I'm pleased that they do a quick grill with the romaine lettuce. Nice touch! Great dressing! All the things you usually have to ask for like napkins and water are readily available. It's an 'order and we will bring it to you' kind of place. Seats around 20 inside and another 28 outside. I'm just guessing here. If you go for an early happy hour like we did, you will miss the later time rush. MORE ABOUT THE FOOD Kelly loves the pork belly tacos. And she also likes the shrimp tacos. Robyn likes them so much that she orders another round of three. Jan says: "This is a funky place with great food". I think "It's more beachy and artsy, than funky". But what do I know! lol Personally, I just love that a former staff member is all the artwork on the walls. The food is created with love and so is the ambiance. The owner Craig is warm and welcoming. I guess that's where the staff gets it from. Craig recommends a reserve bottle that holds up nicely to the food that is full flavored and sometimes spicy. It's pleasantly unexpected that they have a full list of reserve bottles to try. This has the most variety of any happy hour we've gone to. Came here for lunch. You order at the counter and then if eating in, they bring your food out to you. All the seating options are high-tops, so that can make things difficult if you can't sit in a high seat. There are some tables outside to sit at that are sectioned off in the parking lot. The staff are very friendly and helpful with busing tables. Unfortunately, we didn't see that the poke bowl came with a sesame eel sauce, so it was overly sweet for our liking. Additionally, the coconut rice was too sweet and very mushy. Kind of disappointed in the flavor as everything was too sweet and too mushy. The only thing that we really enjoyed was the blood orange IPA, which is not too hoppy and a great beer! People seemed to enjoy the sandwiches and burgers around us, so I would recommend trying those if you check this place out. read more
Stumbled across this place while trying to find good eats while visiting San Diego. Had some pretty decent reviews, so we decided to give it a try. It's a small place, but service was good. We were greeted immediately upon entry and were told to let them know if we had any questions. Menu has a decent selection, but not too overwhelming. I ordered the poke bowl, hubby ordered the lamb chops and we got a grilled cheese for our son. Food was definitely yummy and good portions. We left full and satisfied! I have no idea how this place got 4.7 stars. It must be fake reviews. I ordered a salmon bowl and my husband got a chicken sandwich. My salmon was burnt, 5 thin pieces on top of a mountain of rice. I had to scrape off the burnt part, which was already so thin and left the ones that was not edible. For the sandwich's price, it should be a chicken breast but it's not. Pepsi and hot sauce was fine. Yes I do understand it was blackened salmon but I know the difference between burnt food and seasoned food. Also, the chicken we ordered was also burnt. Great way of responding to a customer you have so much class. read more

This is definitely a hole in the wall putting out an amazing array of food. You order at the counter and the food is brought to you. The seating is heavy wood tables and stools, there is also outside seating. This is an older hippie looking place for all age locals. It was a referral from the hotel and we are glad we went there. I had a Kailus Pork Quesadillas with slow smoked pork, caramelized onions & smoked gouda, topped with cilantro, sour cream & hoisin. This was a filling meal. Could of had a little more pork but I am not going to complain because it was so good. My wife had The Notorious P.I.G, slow smoked pork, smoked pork belly, smoked gouda, baconnaise & BBQ slaw on a brioche bun. With all these flavors can you think of anything but delicious. read more
Recently found the Promiscuous Fork but honestly I'm not sure why it took me so long to find this place! The Promiscuous Fork is a gem in La Jolla that serves up some great food and good vibes! The beach is decently walkable if you wanna grab some food and stroll down to the beach for a view! :) Food we got: Kalua Pork Quesadilla: (4/5) Very crispy and the drizzle of hoisin sauce was great! However, I felt like my quesadilla wasn't very filled with pork. Most cheese bites and I felt like it was missing a bit of flavor. Mac n Cheese: (4/5) So cheesy!! Great choice of pasta shape and that cheese sauce was so smooth and cheesy. Surf and Turf Grilled Cheese: (5:5) This is a MUST TRY! This grilled cheese is perfectly loaded and the subtle wasabi flavor was a surprisingly tasty addition. Delish! Overall, the Promiscuous Fork is an awesome place for food and the staff are very friendly as well. I'll be back to try their other menu items! read more

Loved the wide selection of items on the menu here! I've driven by a million times and am glad I finally got to stop in. I loved the twist on the Cesar with the green chili Cesar dressing and added salmon for a delicious meal. We also tried the Brussels and pork fried rice and the fried rice was by far my favorite item on the menu! Packed with flavor, some spice, and delicious sauces on top. Fast and easy service, I'll definitely be back! read more
Tiny place In a strip mall. Limited parking. They seem to do a huge take out biz! The inside seats are limited to 12 people on backless wooden stools that don't face each other, and thick wooden tables or, outside, a few high tops under a tent in the parking lot with the same stools. And a water bowl for passing dogs. You walk up to the counter and order off a huge menu on the wall. We didn't order alcohol, but there are some wine and beer options. We had the roasted balsamic Brussels sprouts.. which were not bitter, crunchy, sweet, and just delicious. Then had the Kalhua pork quesadillas-- Smokey tender meat, creamy Gouda, sweet caramelized onions, and tart cilantro lime cream. Would have been perfect if they'd been a bit hotter. Will def be back. Portions are great for the price. read more

Made it here for my burger journey and it fell flat. I'm strictly sticking to the Bourdain burger evaluation process. The meat was not seasoned and it was grey instead of medium rare. The cheese was sweaty instead of melted. The bun was a little above average and held up well. The tomatoes were really delicious. The fries were not crispy, but still really good. They seemed fresh. The reason they get a third star is the salmon bowl my daughter got. The salmon was blackened and flaky. The jalapeño coconut rice was really good (according to her). Would I go back? Nope. Would she? Yep, for a salad or a bowl. read more

My sister in law had this spot on her "want to try" list so we visited for dinner and after we left she moved it to her "favorites" list! We're visiting and called ahead. The seats are limited but it's worth it! This is a walk up and order type of restaurant, so check out the menu before you come. I saw a ton of great reviews for the blackened salmon tacos so I knew what I wanted already! Our table ended up ordering a ton of food - 2 salmon tacos, 1 pork belly taco, chicken sandwich with garlic fries, beet salad, Buffalo wings, Brussels sprouts, and the blueberry lemon cheesecake. OMG. Everything was so good. I love rice and the rice that came with the tacos was delicious. It's coconut jasmine rice and was sweet and savory. Sooo good. The Buffalo chicken wings were also meaty and great. The dressing on the beet salad was a fresh pesto which was remarkable. Parking is a bit tight so be prepared to squeak in, and there aren't many seats, but this spot is so worth it. The staff was the nicest and made us promise to come back two more times before we head back home. We just loved it! read more

Well.... I just tried it and all I can say is now i am not a Fan. I almost feel as if I was taken advantage of. Come on, I do realize we are going through tough times but I got a caesar salad to go and paid $22, I was expecting a very fancy plate and all I got was a bunch of cut lettuce and a bit of dressing on a tiny container, yes sure it had Salmon, but just a taste. Please see the picture and you will be as disappointed as I was. I literally has to stop at Vons to buy more lettuce, so needless to say, I won't fall for it again. This is a great stop if you're a foodie. Small, hole in the wall, unassuming but has some of the best food we have tasted. Was recommended by my friend, his family has been going there for years when they vacation in La Jolla. Such a wide variety to choose from, it's hard to find something you won't like. Seating is small and cozy, but if you find a spot outside on a nice sunny day, it's perfect! read more
