Nothing fancy, just good, hearty food to fill your belly and satisfy your hanger. We always opt for their fried rice and chicken bbq. I am not a big bbq sauce person but I could drink their's, lol. They give hefty portions and whenever we are in the area during lunch time, we make sure we pay them a visit. Parking is crazy during lunch hours due to the heavy crowds so plan accordingly. For "double chicken," I only got a few small pieces--something an 8-year-old could finish. Also, the guy preparing the food really needs to speak louder. However, the food quality is to be improved. The meat (I got pork sisig and chicken bbq) does not seem like it's the freshest, plus I believe the meat is re-used to make different dishes. Like using leftover bbq to make sisig... The lumpia is crispy but the taste is just mediocre. We sat outside in the food court area as there is limited seating inside, making it more of a takeout spot. First time trying this place with my husband. We arrived right before noon so there was no line in front of us. I've been wanting Filipino food but not feeling well enough to make it at home. I read reviews that Nanay's is known for their bbq chicken/pork so we got bbq pork and beef kaldereta. I also wanted some soup so I got one. The food is def yummy. Compared to R&B's the pancit is way less salty with the right amount of flavor. And I love that they mix canton and bihon noodles in their pancit (my favorite blend!!) so that's a plus. I take off points for the small batch of soup with literally one piece of meat and 3 tiny pieces of cabbage. I understand it's a soup but come on!! It's $1.50. At least give me more cabbage or another small piece of meat. Otherwise, the soup was nicely flavored with the right amount of sourness for my liking. Reminds me of my dad's version. The staff was nice and the place was clean upon entry. My suggestion is to label the items for new people want to try Filipino food so they can put a name to the dishes. First time here, on a Thursday during lunchtime and it had a steady line up out the door. The lines moves quickly since you just pick and choose 1 or 2 item combos both under $10. I got the 2 item combo which also comes with rice and a side of steamed vegetables which was a bonus since I decided to go with the chicken and spicy lechon. I didn't know until I read the other Yelp comments that lechon is only during Thursdays. There was the plain one and another one that is slightly spicy with a bit of sauce and mixed vegetables. Both were delicious and they pile it on! It's definitely enough for two people to share. There's an outside patio in the plaza with some umbrellas you can enjoy the food and free parking but hard to find during the lunch rush. I always go for the Sisig because I love the spicy lemony flavor of the pork. It's made a little different than I'm used to. Their version has larger cuts of pork and onion. I don't eat Filipino food very often because of lack of options in most areas, but now that I've discovered Nanay's I think I'll be needing to come back on a regular basis! You get such an amazing value here - I was surprised by how much food I got for what I paid! I was able to get 2 meals out of about $13. Come earlier in the day if you want more options, as my friend stopped by to pick up for us about an hour before closing, but they ran out of pancit, fried rice, and some of their meats. We managed to snag the last bits of their pancit and fried rice. I've never been a huge fried rice person but theirs was amazing! Pretty sure they fried it in leftover fat from the meat because it was super rich and flavorful. Apparently they're most known for their BBQ meats and I can see why! This might be the most value meal in all of San Diego. You think the deals at McDonald's are good, you got to come here instead. Even after the pandemic and inflation raising prices everywhere, a two-item combo at Nanay's will still fill you up for 2 (maybe 3) amazing meals for around $10. This is a standard lunchtime stop for me and my coworkers. It seems that its standard for everyone else in the area too, as the line is always super long at lunchtime! They are only open for lunchtime, so that should show you how good this place is. They only need to be open for weekday lunch and can still thrive as a Filipino institution. Be prepared to have difficulty finding parking around lunchtime! All the food is laid out cafeteria style as you wait in a long hallway. You can get either a 1 or 2 item combination plate. I typically get a 2 item plate with fried rice (no extra charge!), BBQ chicken, and pork sisig. You can also get white rice, pancit, or a combination instead of fried rice. There are a number of options like chicken adobo or BBQ pork. Nanay's is most known for their BBQ and rightfully so! A number of people will come in just for the BBQ meats. Their sisig is good, but its not crispy like what you would find at other Filipino spots around Mira Mesa. It is still good, as it has a deeper, spicier flavor. After making your way through the hallway, you pay for your food with the cashier where there are a number of drinks and Filipino snacks you can get too!
