This is a spot located in Liberty Station and it's a great spot for home cooked Filipino meals. We got the chicken adobo and the longanisa for breakfast. Both items were actually pretty salty... I've had these before and I don't remember it being this salty and heavily vinegar based. Either way. The food was pretty good. I think we got there a bit too early as they still needed time to open up shop before they were ready to take orders. Nonetheless they were respectful and were transparent that they'd need time to open up and also to cook the dishes. Since this is in liberty station, it can get pretty loud in here. The seating is also all shared among the other restaurants so finding a table can be tough. It's also near the air strip so if you eat outside expect it to be loud from the planes flying by. Overall, pretty good for a "taste of home" Filipino dish, but my only gripes are the pricing (it's on the pricier side), the saltiness (shout out to the vinegar) and the timing (Filipino time that we all know and love lol). read more

It's conveniently located in front of tables to enjoy your food, and the stall decorations highlight and introduce Filipino food and culture. Cons: inconsistency. Online, the location says they're open at 10AM on weekends, but i've noticed on 3 different weekends they've opened at 11am instead. A lot of people order online for pickup, and we waited over 40 minutes for an in-person order of two bowls, due of the influx of online orders. Love seeing Filipino food vendors! We were waiting for them to open up so once they did I stood there at the register. There was a guy and a girl working and neither of them even looked at me. They were definitely open already based on the time but didn't even bother to say anything at all. I waited an awkward amount of time and finally asked "are you open?" And he responded yes as if I was the one bothering them. So strange and really off-putting, kinda didn't even want to buy anything from them at that point but I knew my kids would really like the pandesal. I was hoping for sisig but didn't see any on the menu so just ended up getting the pandesal and lumpia shanghai for the kids. It kinda took a crazy amount of time just for those 2 things considering I was the first customer. I didn't even hear them call out my number or name and just happened to see it sitting on the counter. But they both came out fresh at least. The bread was really fluffy with a toasted exterior and I liked the whipped ube butter with it. The lumpia was nice and crispy but nothing super unique about the flavor or presentation. Visited the Liberty Public Market location and the service was friendly and fairly quick. We ordered the Lumpia Gulay and they didn't have enough, so they were kind enough to give us some Lumpia Shanghai free of charge. The Uber Pandesal was nice and I really liked the Ube butter spread on top. For my main I got the Lechon Kawaii which is pork belly over a bed of rice. The dipping sauce it came with added some flavor but I enjoyed the dish more without it. With the exception of one piece, most of the pork belly pieces were nicely crispy and moist. My husband and I have always enjoyed white rice. Unfortunately we had a not so great experience this past Sunday. We always get the chopped pork belly and chicken bowls. This time my husbands bowl was missing an egg and the bowl was just messy. The ube is nonexistent so it seems like just food coloring. At it was soft and airy pillow bread. They also did not mention that they ran out of the ube cream that comes with the bread so this was absolutely trash without the cream. I had to go another one of their other locations to get the cream for the bread. I do not recommend getting the bread unless they have the ube cream in stock. 10/10 Ube Cream - consistency between whip cream and butter. It was sweet but with the bread is just perfect. I've been here and the other locations multiple times. At the beginning, it was amazing, especially seeing a new Filipino place. However, over time the consistency has gone downhill. As a Filipino, it is disappointing to see them change the traditional names like "Sisig" to "chopped pork bowl." It is like we are being colonized through our food. Today I ordered an item I've never seen, the Kare Kare. It is not traditional or anything that I expected it to be. The peanut taste was nonexistent and it lacked that sweet and salty sauce expected in Kare Kare. It was good, but not what I wanted by any means. It was more of just beef and eggplant in an unknown sauce. When I asked the employee for bagaoong, they looked at me like I was crazy. Sad to see it like this. My wife got the Tocino Manok bowl from White Rice which was loaded with grilled chicken, pickled shallots, a sunny side egg and garlic rice. The chicken was seasoned so well and had a really tasty garlic, tangy flavor. The pickled shallots and runny egg paired well with the perfectly cooked rice. I probably ate about half of her bowl! While the bowl was excellent, the Ube Pandesal is a MUST try. It is a Filipino roll made with ube and there is a paired ube butter to enjoy with it. White Rice is not your standard Filipino restaurant. It has a more elevated style to it. I say that for reasons such as the food presentation is better than any Filipino market-styled restaurant (like Erlinda's or Pinoy Food Market), it is priced higher than said market-style restaurants, and it is located at a hip place like Liberty Public Market. The food is always consistent when I go. I will say, you must order the lechon kawali and longanisa. The lechon kawali has that crispy skin and juicy, tender meat, which is what you want from such a dish. The sauce it comes with is savory and sweet, at the same time, and completes the dish (along with the egg). As for the longanisa, it is a staple breakfast item at any Filipino household -- add the cilantro, carrots, egg and garlic rice that White Rice has to offer and you have another winning meal. White Rice is one of the food places in Liberty Public Market. I was in LPM to do a Yelp Elite perk at Kebab Craft. I also checked out Bao Bar. The pricing lately are off the charts for all places but I wanted some pork sisig for lunch along with my pita sandwich. On the counter I saw some ube cookies that I love and got those too. This spot is popular with lots of Filipino dishes in the right amount for newbies. They also have one of my favorite desserts - Taho in two flavors (skimmed tofu). Overall I have visited both sites now, one in Liberty Public Market in Pt Loma and the one in North park. The LPM location seems busier ( lunch time) but if you're patient, you can order and walk around and return to pick up your order. Food was great and always reliably good. read more

During my visit, I observed that the same employees who were preparing food were also handling transactions at the cash register--without changing their gloves in between tasks. At no point during my wait did I see staff change gloves after touching the touchscreen register, which is frequently used by multiple customers. This lack of glove changing raises serious concerns about cross-contamination and food safety. Touching potentially germ-laden surfaces and then immediately handling food poses a clear sanitary risk. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and implements proper food-handling protocols. Everything was cooked to order, so though there was a little bit of a wait for the food, everything was hot and fresh. My order consisted of the Sisilog and Lumpia Shanghai. The sisig was crispy and oozing with flavor. The garlic rice complemented the sisig and accompanying fixings so well. Again, the flavor was undeniably amazing. The lumpia was fried to perfection with just the right amount of filling. I ended up circling back to give praises to the chef/cook. Upon stopping by, the guy making the food wasn't there but the cashier and helper were present. When approaching the cashier to let her know I thought the food was great, I was surprised by her lack of a emotion or gratitude at the praise. I thought maybe she didn't hear me or the compliment wasn't clear, but after rephrasing my message, she still had no sign of happiness or appreciation. Whomp! Such a sour interaction and not even one word of thanks for the positive words. I ended the conversation by politely asking to pass my praises to the cook and the only reply I received was, "umm, okay. " Though the service experience ended on a bad note, the food was good. It's so nice to have quality Filipino food available at one of SD's most iconic spots. I love this spot and my absolute favorite item is their ube pandesal with the ube butter that comes with it (chef's kiss!!), but I also really enjoy their sisilog + calamansi iced tea. My partner is new to trying different kinds of Filipino dishes and loved their sisilog as well, rating it a 10/10 and calling it the perfect mix of crispy/spicy/sour. Raised in San Diego, I know there's lots of great Filipino businesses in town and that's why it's so exciting to see a newer Filipino restaurant on the scene offering refreshing concepts without compromising any of the quality I love to have when I'm back home.
