I'm in town once a year but I've had Luna's bookmarked. It's likely because I wanted lumpia and it had been mentioned when I was searching around. I got the Lumpia nachos, ube canolis, lumpia and one of their specials that I believe is something of a deep fried shumai. The lumpia nachos leaned sweet. The sauce that you can optionally dip your lumpia in was already pre-added. The chips are wonton chips. It has a good crunch. Getting normal lumpia is probably the better move here. For that I ended up getting two meats because they were out of one of them. I can't remember which but I'm fairly sure that whatever is the more popular one, is the better one. There was a stark difference between the two. I enjoyed the ube canolis and the special. I don't think I have to get either again but that's fine because they have so many other items along with an almost overwhelming number of specials. read more

The lunpias here are the best lumpias! They're so good and flavorful. My favorite of all time. We tried the chili mansi fried chicken plate. I really enjoyed this. The fry on the chicken was perfect and the flavor was complex and delicious. I enjoyed the side of pickled cucumbers that went well with the rest of the dish. We also got the cali pino burrito with chicken tocino. This burrito was jam packed with a lot. Too much rice in my opinion. I think it would have been better with a salsa or some type of sauce. It was too one note for me but my husband thought it was good. Spot is kind of deep in poway. There is a parking lot and we had no issues finding a spot on a Saturday. I would say they need to fix their fountain soda machine. Thankful the cashier told us to check what was available before we ordered. Great welcoming service the minute I walked in. W ordered take out. The place is kind of small but they did their best to accommodate their guests even seeing them seat a party of 12. The owner helped us understand their catering menu and explained it is made per order based on the request so she couldn't specify the pricing. Ordered the pork adobo which had 4 large pieces of pork belly, great sauce and yummy Mac. Wish there were more protein to the rice ratio, but it was good overall. I am from San Jose and I am always looking around on Yelp or tik tok for Filipino breakfast spots as they are my FAVORITE. I am so glad I found Luna's Lunpias. When we walked in, the staff were so friendly and went over the specials and also let us know what they didn't have for that morning. We're not in the Poway area often, but decided to stop by Luna's Lunpias one day while heading north. They are located in a large plaza with plenty of parking. LUMPIAS: Tried both the pork and beef lumpias and while both were good, we all liked the pork ones more since they just had more of a kick to them. Perfectly fried and crispy! BREAKFAST MUSUBI: We wanted to try this and see how well the hashbrown went with the musubi. It was decent but don't think it's something I would get again. It was a bit hard to eat as the whole thing fell apart quickly so we ended up picking at it like a salad. SISIG COMBO PLATE: I was able to get half half garlic fried rice and pancit for my carbs. Nice, crispy pork belly cut into the perfect bite sized pieces. Loved the mango serrano salsa! UBE CHEESECAKE: I wanted the minis but they were out at the time, so I ended up getting the full sized one. It's still not too big so perfect for 1-2 people. Good flavor and not overly sweet! Overall, great Filipino food although pricey for what it is; I got a bit of sticker shock when my total showed up. Apparently Luna's Lunpias was voted for Best Filipino Food in San Diego and we had to stop by and try it. We arrived pretty early for dinner so we were the only ones inside. The lot is pretty big with tons of parking spots but I'm not sure how filled up it gets during peak hours. We were greeted by the cashier as we walked in. She passed out the menus and explained the specials and items that weren't in stock at the moment. She also gave some great recommendations and highlighted several of the top hits. Beef/Pork Lunpias: We ordered the 8 piece and got to do half pork and half beef! The lunpias are very crispy but the pork stood out the most. It's way more flavorful and I think something about the oils in the pork make the wrapper look different when fried. These pork lunpias are the best I've had in San Diego! Breakfast Musubi: Spam musubi with egg and a hashbrown in the middle. The hashbrown was super crispy but overall, the musubi tasted pretty average. It also fell apart really easily so we ended up using a fork to finish it. The cashier even recommended the Panko Spam over the Breakfast but we mainly wanted to try it for the hashbrown. Won't be making that mistake next time! Sisig Bowl: Chunks of crispy pork belly mixed with a mango serrano salsa. I also upgraded to garlic fried rice and added an over easy egg. Not the best sisig I've had in San Diego but it was still pretty good. The pork belly could be crispier but I liked the sauce. I ordered the tapsilog and chicken combo plate. It was so flavorful. The rice and ulam complimented each other so well. It came with mac salad and pickled cucumber. We came on a Sunday at 430 and all the beef was sold out along with other popular items. You order first then sit down and the will call out your items to be picked up. I really wanted to like this place and I hate giving bad reviews for small businesses. but I believe this is the last time I'm ever coming here. Let's first start off with the good: -The lumpia was on point. The flavors were great and they were nice and crisp. I got the veggie and pork both were really good. -The sisig bowl with garlic rice and over easy egg. Although it was a little on the cold side, everything tasted good. The texture was crisp, some of it was a little to hard to chew as the meat part was really dry and it seems to have been sitting a little big. -The bibingka muffin was my favorite thing out of the entire order. -The customer service was good Now onto the bad: -They were out of the 2 things I wanted to really try the loco moco smash and the lechon kawali -The ube cheese cake was just not good, it was runny and I don't know how to explain it. I just didn't like it. Plus it was tiny for the price. -The pancit was just way to garlicky. It was like adding noodles to a dish of garlic and it had a huge wedge of cabbage at the bottom. It was 50% cabbage 50% noodles -The prices were outrageous. Let me give you an example, a small square of rice krispy treat for 4.95. On top of that it wasn't fresh and the texture was like it had way too much butter to the ingredients. All together with a nominal tip was $122 for 2 combo plates, 1 bowl, 2 pc veggie lumpia, 8pc Shanghai lumpia, bibingka muffin, ube cheesecake and Rice Krispie. The restaurant itself was dark and small. Probably more better as a pick up and go but not big enough for big parties. Enjoyed the food and service so much, I went twice in one month! It's a medium sized shop and I've always had the warmest welcome. Their food is Filipino fusion, and I was grateful at how well they described the different foods they had to offer and recommend based off the preferences of the customer. The remainder of this review is what I thought of individual items, so bottom line is if you're looking good for innovative and yummy food, I would definitely consider this a must try, hidden gem. Pork lumpia - 4/5, simple and the usual Filipino pork lumpia and still delicious! Panko Span Musubi - 10/5, I don't usually like musubis because I don't really eat seaweed, BUT the sauce and panko crust is to die for!! Stopped by while waiting to get my oil changed on my car. It's quicker to walk here than to other food establishments and the food is really good! It was my first visit so I was overwhelmed by all the delicious sounding food choices but the friendly man at the register and his wife sitting nearby helped me navigate to the selection I was craving. I started with a calamansi refresher which was much needed on this hot day. The sweet chili calamansi chicken wings were so delicious. They had just the right amount of crunch but did get a little messy. It was worth the mess. ;) Then I had the Turontella which is basically ripe plantain wrapped in spring roll paper then fried and topped with Nutella. What a treat! Easy 10/10. Everything we tried was fresh, delicious, and you can tell a lot of care goes into each dish. The staff was also super friendly, and everything was made fresh to order. The sisig combo plate was one of my favorites. The sisig was packed with flavor with the perfect mix of spices. Same goes for the sisig tacos. The cheese on tortilla was a great touch! Everything came together exactly how a good loco moco should. The salmon bowl honestly surprised me. I was not expecting the salmon to be that good. It was fatty, juicy, and cooked perfectly. The seasoning was great, but the texture and cook on the salmon is what really stood out. The lumpia nachos were BOMB. We actually ended up ordering a second round because of how good they were. The lumpia filling itself was delicious, the sauces paired perfectly, and I loved their choice of chips. It also wasn't too heavy, which made it way too easy to keep eating. It's more east and in the quiet part of Poway and in a plaza. Ample parking and the restaurant wasn't that busy during lunch hour. PORK LUNPIA (4pc/$6.75) - aka lumpia. I picked vinegar as my dipping sauce for the lumpia. the lumpia's are small - Shanghai style. Overall taste was just ok. They came out crispy but the filling inside fell flat in seasoning - the meat was blander than typical lumpia. CHICKEN TOCINO SILOG BOWL ($12.95) - I had it served with over medium egg. Perhaps I should have went for the pork tocino or tapa because chicken tocino wasn't the one for me. It was mediocre - didn't have that full savory taste of Tocino. Couple things I felt was missing from a typical silog bowl: slice of tomato and some vinegar dipping sauce. I used my vinegar dipping sauce from my lumpia and it help step up the chicken tocino. I wasn't expecting this but there was also a small serving of mac salad sprinkled with furtikake - I'm not much of a furikake fan and wish I knew this would be added in I would have excluded it out and have the mac salad plain as is. Luna is amazing! She is incredibly hospitable and accommodating, AND cooks delicious food. We were in San Diego for a bachelorette party and wanted to have a Kamayan-style dinner. My husband chatted with Luna many times in the weeks leading up to our event - she provided guidance and recommendations on specific dishes, sizing, and accommodated us when we decided to have the Kamayan at the restaurant (instead of taking it to-go and setting it up at our Airbnb). My boo and I were craving Filipino food and this was the closest restaurant to us. My first choice was the Lechon Kawali only to find out that they ran out for the evening . So I went with the pork belly sisig instead. My other half had the garlic smashed potato loco moco. We also had lumpia for our appetizer. My pork belly entree wasn't bad. A small shop front tucked away in a quiet corner of Poway, the place packs a PUNCH of flavor and food items anyone could want! We grew up in San Diego, so having co-workers ask where the good Lumpia spots are was always a tricky question. When we heard Luna opened up her own place, I had to give it a try. I brought in my co-workers last weekend and ordered the Beef LUNpia's, the Cali-Pino Fries, the Tapsilog bowl, some musubis and for dessert the Ube Tres Leches and Bibingka. What a treat, the Cali-Pino fries I rate up there with SD Carne Asada Fries, if more people knew about them they would definitely be a San Diego favorite. The Ube Tres leches was fire. My colleague recommended this place. I know there are a lot of Filipino spots in San Diego but it certainly must mean something to win best Filipino food in SD. Here was my experience. AMBIANCE: Parking: Plaza parking. Plenty of parking spots so I didn't have much of an issue on a weekend. Seating: Inside seating but pretty limited, there is room for maybe 5 people with room for maybe 5 groups. Vibes: Welcome to Poway! It may not have all the flashy things as promoted in San Diego (Balboa Park or the beach) but its on the way to it. It's more of a suburban area that's pretty clean. The spot itself is a pretty pleasant place to be in - restaurant feelings with some Filipino-cultural home touches to it - mural, Filipino art, and holiday decor if it's that time of the season. There's a tv usually playing island music. Great for family or friends to hang out or a nice food adventure. FOOD: Lunpia Nachos (Recommend) Oooi! Wanted the signature lumpia but something with a little extra/different and here it is - deconstructed lumpia. I felt like the chips were in-house with as it had a nice crisp to it. The staples of lumpia was very noticable - grounded meat and pickled vegetables. Add some sweet and sour sauce, cheese, sour cream, and green onions and viola! You are in for a treat! Huli Chicken - Pancit/Garlic Rice mix (Recommend) Wonderful! Familiar and new flavors. The pickled vegetables while including grapes was good and the mac salad was standard. The mix of pancit and garlic rice allowed me to satisfy my tastebuds. Finally I was nostalgic of that smokey, juicy, and sweet/tangy huli huli chicken, what made this standout was them keeping the pineapple. I'm certainly coming back for this! Vietnamese Ube Coffee (Recommend) Wonderful! Vietnamese doesn't fail if you're looking for a wake me up. The ube flavor provided a pleasant sweet taste to it. Plus their signature home made whip cream coconut made it extra delightful. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Chef Luna and Rex are dope! Props to their good energy even during a rush! TL; DR OVERALL: 5 Stars. Creative menu, deeeelicious food, reasonable prices, and a pleasant experience. There's a reason why this place was recognized as top Filipino restaurant of San Diego (that says a lot too with all the Filipino shops). This isn't a win for Poway but for San Diego. Pork lunpia was really delicious, dangerously delicious like I could eat 20 of these. Also the Calamansi refresher was great too. The cali pino fries were alright, great portions and value but would probably try something else next time. The ube cheesecake was yummy! In our family, when someone celebrates a birthday, the birthday recipient gets to choose the restaurant for their birthday lunch, birthday dinner, or every restaurant if that family member is celebrating a birthday weekend. Today, I celebrated another trip around the sun and for my birthday dinner, I wanted to eat one of my favorite cuisines, which is Filipino food. Luna's Lunpias has been on my Yelp bookmark list ever since I heard they opened up in the North County. This was me and my family's inaugural visit to Luna's and everything we ate was so yummy that I know we'll be visiting again to try out their other menu items. A strong 4.5 stars because their Filipino food was MASARAP!!! Luna's is located in Poway, CA. at the east end of Poway Road just a short walk from the Poway Car Wash. It can be reached utilizing Poway Road heading east or Rancho Bernardo Road heading south and then heading west on Poway Road. The restaurant is located in a small outdoor strip mall and is in the same location where Halo Halo, which was another Filipino food eatery, used to reside. It is neighbors to Franco's Flapjack Family Restaurant, a locksmith, Ohun's Florist, and a spa. For a small strip mall, there is plenty of parking. Luna's isn't that big of a restaurant with 6 tables/chair settings, so it's not conducive for large parties, but they might want to consider expansion because more diners need to experience their delectable food. As soon as you walk inside, you'll be greeted by a colorful mural of a Jeepney Monster Truck on one wall. On the other wall, there is a brick facade and a neon sign displaying lumpias. The tables resemble planks of wood, the flooring is distressed tile, there are ceiling fans, and one television. I loved the little touches and decor making no doubt that Luna's is a Filipino food restaurant. This is a family business and I enjoyed the framed family pics. The owner and his staff provided quality and noteworthy customer service answering our questions and explaining their seasonal food. I took a half star off because two of their soda machine choices were out and the food took a little while to come out, but their food is made to order. I'm a Filipino food aficionado and when I see on a restaurant's menu that they serve sisig, I'm definitely ordering it because it's one of my last meal requests. The owner explained to us when we first entered his restaurant that their food is Filipino fusion and is not the typical traditional Filipino food. That might be the case, but what I ate still reminded me of the Filipino food I enjoy. For our appetizers, we ordered the Cali-Pino Fries and the Lunpia Nachos. The Cali-Pino Fries come with crispy fries, cotija and shredded cheese, lava sauce, Asian salsa verde, Mexican cream, mango serrano fresca, topped with scallions and crunchy garlic. For our protein on the fries, we chose beef tapa. Despite everything on those fries, the fries remained crispy, there was a good amount of beef tapa, it had a citrus taste, and every single component ate really well. The Lunpia Nachos are deconstructed lumpias with fried tortilla chips topped with beef lumpia filling, cheese, crema, sweet chili sauce, scallions, crispy fried onions, and garlic. The tortilla chips were freshly cooked and that dish truly reminded us of a lumpia, but not in the rolled lumpia form. So Delish!! For my entree, I ordered their Pork Belly Sisig Combo Plate, which is savory, spicy (not really), and crunchy pork belly. This dish is braised and twice-fried with mango serrano salsa, bell peppers, and onions. All of their combo plates (except chila-kilis) are served with white rice, furikake mac salad, and cucumber tomato salad. The sisig combo plate was satisfying, fried delightfully, and I ate every single morsel of that delectable entree. Despite my family and I being full blooded Filipinos, my wife and kids aren't fans of Filipino food unless it's cooked by my Mother-In-Law. To celebrate my birthday, my wife, son, and my son's girlfriend joined me for dinner. Everyone in my party loved the Filipino fusion food from Luna's Lunpias. I think we might have found our go to Filipino food restaurant in our neck of the woods. MASARAP!!! read more

While visiting my boyfriend in the area, I found myself craving Filipino food. We came across this spot & we're so glad we decided to stop by. The food was incredibly delicious & had a fresh, creative take on classic Filipino dishes. Filipino food can sometimes feel repetitive if you're used to it, but they added their own twist that made it unique. Everything tasted fresh, savory, & thoughtfully prepared. I also loved the variety of side dishes that came with our meal. One of the owners even took the time to make us our own personal "sawsawan." I personally love making my own dipping sauce, so I was impressed by how perfectly it was made. It complemented the dishes well & elevated everything we ate. The restaurant is owned by a lovely couple, & you can truly feel their love for what they do. They were welcoming, & genuinely passionate about their food & hospitality.
