Having regularly visited plimoth since it opened and had excellent French style cuisine I took my girlfriend there with a strong recommendation. I was extremely disappointed we didn't even stay for drinks after seeing the menu. It was obviously designed to make the chef feel superior to his uneducated patrons. Every item had at least one and often more ingredient that I had never heard of. Both my friend and I are retired world travelers and love good fine food however this menu had both of us frustrated and insulted almost. It appeared to be written by a fanatical vegan who decided to throw in a couple of meat dishes for the peasants that didn't appreciate the English dictionary presented to them. We were unable to find anything on the menu that appealed to us mainly because we had no idea what the items were and the waitress didn't seem interested in explaining them to us. Maybe she didn't understand it either. We left and went to another far better and understandable menu elsewhere. I visited on Apr. 13, 2017 and my experience was negative. I got there at about 7PM with a party of three and we were seated at the bar so we wouldn't have to wait for a table. The bartender was knowledgeable and very attentive. The dinner we all ordered was quick and tasted delicious. Approximately an hour into our dining experience, the maitre d' asked how much longer we were expecting to stay. At first, I thought she was joking because of the pushy and rude tone of her voice. I must have had a puzzled expression on my face because she repeated herself. I told her that we just ordered some post-meal drinks and some dessert. I am not joking or exaggerating when I tell you, the reader of this review, that she asked if we could finish our drinks "fast" and get our dessert to-go. May I remind you that we were seated at the bar, not at a table! And we were seated there by her, we didn't just wander in and steal a table! I asked her why the rush and she dismissively said we were seated in the owner's favorite spot, and this owner was on the way. I respectfully assured her that we would all finish our desserts quickly and be on our way. She said we could finish it outside on the patio. Well, the patio looked like it was closed and the temperature (according to my history check) was in the mid 40s. I then asked her if we could be reseated to another table. She said they were full and no tables were available. I conceded and asked the bartender if he could cancel the dessert order because we were being asked to leave. To quickly wrap up this review...the manager apologized for the whole fiasco and gave us his business card. He offered to comp part of our bill, but the bill had already arrived and we were already paid up. Despite the horrendous experience, we still left a hefty tip. My individual dinner, drink and tip were $81.00. My Uber receipts show that I was there for only an hour and fifteen minutes. Unfortunately, despite the delicious food and pleasant bar staff, I would not recommend this restaurant based upon the totality of my experience. read more

Have made nose imprints on the window here, anticipating its opening. Some would say it could never have lived up to my eager anticipation! We came for opening night. Our experience was as if we were in a well-established restaurant...no glitches! We made reservations for 8:15, and were seated promptly. LOVED the last century vocal jazz. Has a selective cocktail menu so we tried something new, and it was delicious! The menu is quite specialized, perhaps even limited, but it delivers in presentation, flavor, and OMG-ness. The dessert menu actually includes a cheese plate (extra points). GREAT value. You can't get this kind of food for less anywhere, and I'm a foodie. Our server was Mitch. You'll be lucky to get him. Rude host and wait staff. We came stopped here to eat while here in town for a wedding, and had our son with us. When we arrived, we realized that it wasn't a child friendly restaurant. While many restaurants will do the best to accommodate a family, this place ignored us to seat another couple that arrived after we did. Then after we were seated, we ordered three entrees, the waiter looked at us and asked if we were ordering three entrees for the two of us. I guess they didn't count children as people. After the entrees arrived, the waiter did not check in with us afterwards. The food was, at best, mediocre. We had the chicken, the salmon, and the pork...there are other places I'd spend my babysitting fees on. read more

This is a STELLAR neighborhood eatery! Just as advertised: "collaboration with local farmers and artisan producers".........which creates lovely fresh food presented beautifully! Our favorite starter was the garden zucchini bread with warm farmer's cheese, herb roasted pattypans, and leek powder. HEAVEN! Any other zucchini bread I've ever tasted pales by comparison. Wow, we have been to many Denver restaurants but the meal we had at Plimoth was one of the best. The service was also stellar and they seemed to go above and beyond to make our dining experience special. The food was fresh, unique and delicious. The halibut dish was fantastic and I could almost see the ocean. Tip: if you cannot get a reservation, call ahead and they will hold seats at the bar, if available. Watching the bartender make fresh craft cocktails and trying some homemade ginger beer added to the great experience. Hope you enjoy the Plimoth as much as we did. read more

Unfortunately, we found the Plimoth to be highly overrated. What's more, some of the food bordered on inedible: the chicken was served in a strange black sauce with the consistency of eating coffee grinds. The menu options were willfully bizarre and obscure. Very attentive staff, but our food took forever... So pin that one on the kitchen, I guess? We had the tomato and eggplant caviar appetizer, which was fine, very delicate. It may be gauche, but I would have liked a baguette or some delicious homemade bread to take up some of the oil/tomato juice. It seemed pretty expensive for a few slices of tomato, cheese and eggplant puree. It was interesting, but the taste wasn't mind-blowing. My friend had the veggie dish (Asian-influenced polenta, carrots, fairytale eggplant), which she said was "ok". The vegetarian option did have a delicious sauce but was pretty void of protein, which is a challenge I would have expected a restaurant of this range and cost to take up. My other friend, meanwhile, had the salmon dish which she greatly enjoyed especially the skin on the salmon, which was really flavorful. Likewise, the basil aoli and beets were excellent. She got the recommended rose, which was just "meh". I got the grilled lamb, with cucumbers, tomatoes, and chard. The vegetables were delicious and very fresh... The heirloom tomatoes had an amazing, mild flavor and the cucumbers tasted like they had been gently pickled but were still crunchy. Unfortunately, the lamb itself was a letdown. It wasn't bad, just kind of chewy with a boring flavor. I don't eat much meat so it's kind of a special thing for me, and this was very un-special. So the overall effect of my meal was a really nice salad with a mediocre piece of meat attached. Given the pricetag, it was a disappointing experience. We might have stayed for dessert, but the service had been so slow we just wanted to leave. Oh well, one of us had a good meal. read more

i had the butternut gnoccis, and they were good. portions are VERY small, the slender man sitting at our table had to order several extra plates and still left unsatisfied. the desserts were ok. the atmosphere is that of a cafeteria. there is really nothing special about the plimoth, and with all denver's fab eating establishments, i likely will not return. read more

After reading amazing reviews and receiving a generous gift card, we decided to visit this restaurant for our wedding anniversary. We also happen to live in the neighborhood. The atmosphere was extremely pretentious and unwelcoming. This hostess was the only person to acknowledge our anniversary until we complained about the service. When making the reservation, I specified my dietary needs (I am vegan and allergic to gluten) and also spoke with the receptionist who assured me my needs would be met. The chef seemed put-out by having to accommodate my needs. I felt embarrassed by having to specify with each member of the staff what my dietary needs were. After speaking with the receptionist, I should have never had to repeat my dietary needs. After living in New York City for years, and dining at some of the best fine dining establishments, I know what I was asking was not too much. The chef/owner made it very clear that I was not welcome. In this case, the receptionist should have called to tell me that the menu is rigid and that the chef is not welcoming of all diets and that I should cancel my reservation (typically fine dining establishments have one vegetarian/vegan item off menu). I'm appalled by how we were treated and, unless I receive a formal apology from the chef/owner, I will never return. read more

Food and service were very good. Unfortunately the seated us 20 minutes after our reservation time all the while we were standing staring at 2 open tables for 4. When questioned they said they were holding those tables for a large party coming in (which I don't recall materializing). They stated that there were "a lot of moving parts" and blamed the weather as being partially responsible. We ordered some drinks which would have been a good gesture to comp. Instead were given an order of pate' that a member of our party could not eat. Nice gesture but too little too late. Our server made up for some of the earlier disappointments. read more

The food was amazing. Creative plays on traditional flavors, the cauliflower turnip app is not to be missed. Our server and food runner were polite, attentive, and knowledgeable. The only reason that it doesn't get four stars is that it was very hot inside. We went on a warm evening (60s) in early April and sweat throughout dinner, and we were even seated near the door. I've been coming to the plimoth since I was a teenager, and every time I come in my experiences get better and better. The food is prepared perfectly every time, the staff is knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming, and the music and the ambiance make the plimoth one of a very small number of my Happy Places on the planet. Everything on the menu is excellent, but the tuna tartare, the creamed spinach, and the Rib Eye for two are personal favorites, as is the Smoking Jacket cocktail. read more

They put us up in the front window which we thought would not be the best location but they made it a fantastic evening. I LOVED this place! The food was exceptional and the staff was great. Scott and Steven were so welcoming, accommodating and friendly. I loved the down to earth atmosphere and the location is part of the charm and heart of this restaurant. I had the squash salad and duck with wild rice and cherries. They were both outstanding and plentiful in fresh, well prepared seasonal vegetables. Wine selection was also great. This is the kind of place that can be enjoyed for multiple courses or just a quick stop for a good glass of wine and an appetizer - if you are lucky enough to get a spot. read more

My wife and I flew into Denver for the night. It was our 2 year wedding anniversary. We love to travel for the day to places we've never been or at least to places we've never been in places we love to go. We had dinner before going to see Iron and Wine at the Paramount Theater. Not only was the service impeccable and utterly welcoming in every way, but the menu items and met expectations of the taste variations was unforgettable. I have already recommended to everyone that will listen lol. Hey there and just ask questions. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the tastes and textures of the ever changing menu. The owner came over to speak with us to congratulate us after we had received a glasses of bubbly from the waiter and staff. Amazing. Small, intimate...like being a welcome guest at someone's house. The cauliflower gratinee is destined to be a mainstay and signature starter. The boutique mushrooms on top were a great addition and the presentation in a small iron skillet was unique. The braised beef shanks had a depth of flavor and complexity that words can't describe. My girlfriend had the mussels which were tender and perfectly cooked, swimming in a complex broth bright with flavor. I can't wait to come back for a return visit when their menu changes. Love their approach of doing a handful of starters and mains and doing them really, really well. Oh yeah, their pricing is another standout from other places. The best pork I've ever tasted. Brined in wort, it not only had a smokey, almost cured flavor, but the brining process made for the most tender bites imaginable. The space is reminiscent of the Cherry Tomato, but smaller. And, the staff provided some of the best service I've had in Denver. Good wine suggestions, and I almost forgot to mention the Rob Roys! They knew how to fine-tune the smokiness for each of our preferences! Definitely going back. Sadly, I was too full for dessert. read more

Fine dining behind an unassuming facade, The Plimoth is a treasured find. We were welcomed at the door by Adam, the manager and sommelier, and he didn't stop working--helping the servers, talking to customers, accommodating wherever he could--until he bid us good-bye again as we left. That kind of warmth and friendliness was typical of all the employees we encountered. Service was efficient, our server was knowledgeable, and the food was to die for. Wow! This is our second time to the plimoth and another home run! My wife and I came in for dinner and was already treated like family. We were seated promptly and greeted by Katie who was very friendly and attentive throughout service. My wife ordered the fennel soup and I had the house made banger, WOW!! My dearest littlest sis brought me here for my birthday, upon entering you were transported to a home style dining room where the chefs exchanged pleasantries with the patrons and compliments on choices were passed from table to table. We were given a small bowl of elegant potato chips to tide us as we salivated over the menu, yes, I said 'potato chips'...you have to go to understand. To start we had the country-style Terrine with tongue and mustard which tasted like a summer day, light not heavy and a picnic essence when paired with a apple/cabbage salad. My sister also insisted on the fennel/garlic Banger' with a tomato mostarda sauce that I could eat every day for the rest of my life. The 'Main' choices were too much so we shared the pork loin with a delicious apple/leek mash topped and a fried egg as well as the caraway/rye crusted salmon (perfectly cooked) with some incredible horseradish pierogi. By desert my taste buds were stunned and drunken with glee (a Henninger riesling was helping) but we soldiered on and got the fresh fruit tartlet and the spiced-apple & boozy cherry clafoutis that were both so amazing I think our party was levitating about an inch above our chairs. By far, the best meal I had in 2013. It wasn't just the food but the essence of the Plimoth that made this night/meal special, the restaurant felt like you were eating at home with your neighbors and friends and the location took you away from that plastic feeling you can get in areas like downtown and 17th ave where it is lit up place next to lit up place calling in diners like a circus. The Plimoth sits on it's own, in a neighborhood I grew up in, serving quality food to friends and neighbors without the circus....it sits on it's own. read more
