Chez Maggy is fancy French restaurant using local Colorado ingredients inside the Thompson hotel. The dimly lit interior has high ceilings with understated upscale decor. The escargot were very large and served in their shells for a beautiful presentation and come with their own mini baguette to soak up the butter sauce. If you like snails, then I would recommend ordering them here. I also enjoyed the mussels in white wine sauce with its light clean flavor. The French onion soup was very cheesy and deeply flavored as you would expect from this classic. The fried calamari were lightly battered and not too greasy but not particularly special compared to the other appetizers I had. I ordered the filet aux Poivre and swapped the fries for potato pave. I think my med-rare fillet was mixed up with someone else's because it was overdone. To their credit, they did comp it and bring me a perfectly cooked one later but I felt like it was lacking salt. I would've liked to order the lamb chops, but they were not available the night. I was there. Service was impeccable! The server did a great job keeping our table of 14 happy. The rye whiskey sour I had was well made. And the crispy toast dessert was sooo good! 4.5-stars!
Beautiful space that's shared with a hotel. The restaurant was booked for a reservation so the bar seating was available. During the day, they have happy hour and I tried the beef tartare and escargot as I was doing a food tour and wanted something light. The escargot came with a whole baguette and the tartare had two bread slices. It was so heavy and not a "light" dish. I ended up being so full. The bathroom is located downstairs and has an event space with picturesque seating, the bathroom has toiletries to freshen up and the meal came with a postcard at the end. Very nice restaurant and hope to dine here another time with a full menu.
Great French cuisine, great service, and romantic/upscale ambiance. French onion soup was very solid, traditional. Steak frites very good. Steak was very tender, perfectly cooked. Sauce is peppery but delicious. Garlic aioli tasted like real garlic added in. Everything had a great enhanced natural flavor. Exactly why French food is my favorite. Well done and a must stop!
I'm always on the search for the best French Onion soup. This place has been recommended on numerous social media outlets, so I decided to give it a try. As part of the Thompson Hotel, I had high hopes for delicious soup, but unfortunately it was pretty mid. The broth didn't have much depth and was lacking bold flavors. The portion size was fine and filling. I also ordered a Boston lettuce salad, which was returned b/c 50% of the lettuce was wilted and turned. Not sure how it even left the kitchen looking the way it did, but I guess most of the wilted lettuce was hidden under the top layer of lettuce. We also ordered the crab toast. I didn't love it b/c it was very bready and very much not crabby, but my counterpart really enjoyed it. Service was very personable and friendly, but it's definitely not on my list to return to if craving French Onion Soup.
If you're seeing a show at the DCPA complex, Chez Maggy is a decent place to get a bite to eat. Food is easily 4 stars, but service could be improved. I ordered the Cordon Bleu, but for some reason the waitress put in the order for some fish dish. This is usually not a big deal, but the wrong order meant that it took a while for our food to arrive and we had to frantically scarf down our food in hopes that we weren't going to be late for the show. The manager did come over to apologize for the mix-up and assured us our food was on its way, but the damage was done. For the record, the Cordon Bleu was a decadent treat and I wish I had more time to enjoy it. My husband thought the Maggy burger was delicious, though he's never met a burger he didn't like. Prior to our entrees, we ordered the Belgian endive salad and the beef tartare. I highly recommend both to share with your dinner companion. Everything we ate was on the rich side; we probably could have split an entree instead of overeating. All in all, I'm glad we finally had the chance to try this place!
Update: food is still bomb! Came with a different group of friends, we ordered the calamari, hamachi crudo, beet salad, filet, and lemon bucatini. Yummmmmmmm. It was all so delicious. The calamari was crispy (I wish there were bigger chunks of squid), the hamachi crudo came with a lovely slaw, and the beet salad was perfection. I loved the pistachio and cheese in the beet salad. The flavors were spot on. The filet was perfectly cooked (medium rare, DUH) and the lemon bucatini was very flavorful. The server also brought us a yummy aioli for the fries that I very much enjoyed. The service was great, shout out to Jeff for a great dining experience! Definitely recommend dining at Chez Maggy, you will eat a very satisfying meal!
At at Chez Maggy for dinner and breakfast over the same weekend while doing a staycation. The food was good, nothing to write home about, the service was great and the restaurant is super cute, but I will say I was disappointed to see that some menu items have changed. For instance, the steak frites was not available to order for dinner but available for lunch and the weekend brunch. Also, they took the pancakes off the brunch menu which to me is criminal -- but they have it available for weekday breakfasts. I don't know, to me these seemed like unnecessary changes, and as somebody who booked this hotel specifically to enjoy these menu items at this restaurant, I just felt disappointed. Highlights for me where the hamachi and the beef tartare at dinner; the avocado toast has a very weird taste profile with the pickled carrots so I would stay away from that if you like classic avocado toast.
We came here for Easter brunch - so it wasn't a typical meal. We ordered the steak aux poivre which was delicious and it came with crunchy fries. The only downside is that this restaurant charges a 20% service fee which they tell you doesn't include tip. So once you add a 20% tip - you've spent a 40% up charge which isn't advertised on their website at all. I post this just so anyone who considered this restaurant for a future visit will know that they have to pay 40%. That's high.
Never a disappointment here. Stopped in at the bar for happy hour and stayed for dinner after a couple of cocktails. We had the burger, fries and French onion soup! Wow, everything was perfect. Flavor. Texture. Smell. Temperature. Timing. Service was fast. They were attend five but not annoying and never rushed us for anything. Food came lightning fast and everything came at once. Still a top fave in Denver for me.
The food is very good for a hotel restaurant, but it's also heavier than the Metallica concert I went to that night! I had the burger which was really awesome - and the fries were the best fries I've had in a while. Steak frites were pretty good - can't complain but can't write home about it. Creme Brule was also just okay. Breakfast was pretty good also. It's a bit on the pricey side (not terrible, some things are like oh yeah, that's reasonable, others seem to be not a good value). Service was pretty friendly. Overall, it's a 4 (3.5) star joint but I deduct a star due to the 20% auto grat added and then getting the sales pitch afterwards about why they should get additional tip. If you're going to auto grat me 20% and point it out to me, that's cool - if you're going to use it to ask more. Not so much. I don't need an HBS case study into the business model of the restaurant... As i said, some of the food is pretty good so I would eat it again. I'd be hesitant to return if i wasn't staying at the hotel with a credit.
Chez Maggy was an absolute standout. I loved the interior and decor, especially how they incorporated natural elements into the design, it feels elegant but warm and inviting. I had the steak frites and a Caesar salad and both were phenomenal. The steak was incredibly tender and not chewy at all, and the fries were perfect, pillowy on the inside with a great crunch on the outside. The salad was fresh and crisp, and the dressing was rich and flavorful without being overpowering. Everything from the atmosphere to the food made for an excellent experience, and I can't wait to come back.
5 stars. Classy joint with a Very straightforward food menu including some French classics. Came in for brunch and was sat immediately and had a great intro and experience with the server. The cutlery, plating, and menu all had a boujee vibe but it wasn't too expensive. The chilaquiles are fantastic. They use a large perfectly crispy hash brown instead of chips and it works so well. Spicy and cheesy - great for a morning after revival meal. The Benedict was excellent, top 2 in Denver. Loaded with mushrooms and spinach and the Parisian ham slaps. The hollandaise contains whole mustard seed and was amazing.
Chez Maggie was fantastic! As a Hyatt Globalist, my meal was complimentary, so no complaints there, but even if I'd paid full price, it would've been worth it. The French toast was incredible, and the chilaquiles were equally outstanding. Flavorful, fresh, and perfectly executed. I'd definitely come back just for those dishes alone. Highly recommend!

Before we left our stay at the Thompson hotel we went to breakfast the next morning. I want to start off by saying the service was absolutely exceptional! I wish I could remember our server's name, but he was truly truly the best (perhaps Alex?). When we weren't pleased with the latte, and asked for a single espresso shot to add to the latte, he just went ahead and got us a brand new one. The steak frites were delicious, and the Chilaquiles were also surprisingly different than what I expected, but a huge hit! Keep in mind, they definitely have a kick to them! It is served on a bed of a hashbrown square rather than a bed of tortilla chips. I loved the twist. The restaurant was decently busy on a Saturday morning, including the inside and the patio. It was lively, yet peaceful, and just a great place to have brunch. read more
While staying at the Thompson Denver, we found ourselves deciding it was more convenient to have our breakfast here during our entire stay. Our overall experience was exemplary! Although our final day had a bit of wait time for seating (on a Monday), the food and service was amazing. We had all eaten here during our last stay a few years ago but there was a lot under construction outside. I observed the outdoor seating is available. Inside, everything meshed well with the overall hotel. The food itself - the family pretty much ate almost every breakfast item during our stay. Specific to my experiences with the food: Croque Madame - 4.5/5 - all the ingredients were fresh and complimented each other. Chez Maggy Benedict - 5/5 - Absolutely loved it! Simple Breakfast - 4/5 - Typical breakfast but with fresh ingredients. I generally love how they use a type of lettuce that isn't normally served in restaurants. Thank you for the great food and experience. I'm sure we'll be back when visiting Denver again! read more

We were welcome immediately with smiles and brought right to our table. No waiting. That's always nice. We sat inside because a storm was coming and it was really beautiful in there. I always wanted to eat here because I love the hotel and the other bar that's upstairs. It's a really cute French restaurant. The quality of the food was really perfect I was so impressed. Juicy steak cooked to perfection for us and same with the chicken. Those crispy flavorful edges on both. The fries (I know it's just fries) but you guys they were so delicious we got another plate of them. The crème brûlée was a true delight. I got an NA drink it was a ginger beer flavored blood orange. It was light and refreshing perfect over ice. The ceasar salad was very crisp and fresh and not over dressed which happened with a salad sometimes this one was perfect to me. Ryan and I both devoured it all and were both quite pleased the entire meal. Although the portions may seem a little small this filled up Ryan and I well and the quality like this always makes up for quantity of food for price. I'll take that any day over a large amount of mediocre food. I can't wait to come back again soon! And of course can't go wrong with the convenient location for Ryan and I just right in down town Denver 1616 market street! And I do like to mention bathrooms when I feel it's mentionionable... it's part of the hotel and they are a pretty little bathroom with all the little amenities in them one might need and I just love a good clean bathroom in general. It's a beautiful a lot in general. We will be back again soon :) read more
I love visiting his restaurants in Los Angeles, and I've been waiting to try this spot for a while. Walked here on my layover from my hotel and it was worth it. Absolutely delicious, escargot and amazing steak tartar. Service was superb and dishes came out quickly and Chef Ludo never disappoints. It looked like it was mostly business lunch crowd when I stopped by. I recommend the spot to everyone who lives here and to anyone who visits. A tiny slice of France in the middle of Denver. read more

Birthday dinner for my wife, and they treated us so well! It was our first time eating there, so we had a lot of questions. I think my favorite parts were all the bases on which our food sat. The crème fraîche and pistachios with the beet salad. The ratatouille with the lamb. Everything complimented the main focus of the dish. They also treated us to some olive oil cake and champagne. read more
Had a very nice brunch out on their deck/patio seating. Service was friendly and quick, both with drinks and food. Weekday late morning luck I am thinking. We did not realize they were part of a hotel (The Thompson). Drinks were good, perfect on strength and the house mix was nicely done. Weekday late morning both enjoyed our breakfast sandwiches. They do add gratuity to the check so watch for that! read more

Inside the Thompson Hotel, Chez Maggy is so cute! Great decor, intimate and wonderful servers! They also have a great bar. The French onion soup is by far the BEST I've ever had, made with a veal broth, it's rich, delicious and just made to perfection. I loved the bolognese, chef's mother in laws recipe. It's a perfect portion. Sauce, pasta, meat all done so well. I finished dinner with the creme brluee and it just topped off the experience. If you're staying at the hotel or nearby, I highly recommend Chez Maggy read more

Service was great. Our server for lunch was tentative and knew the menu. The place is beautiful. I really enjoyed the wall paper, floors, decor all around. Tall ceilings give it a very elegant feel! Tried so much food! Interesting options but it fit for the city. French cuisine is interesting and I understand why the menu was the way that it was! Escargot, bread, Caesar salad, French onion soup and the form and knife burger were all amazing! read more

Visited for brunch. The ambiance was upscale modern. Service was bare minimum. I had to ask for a refill on my hot coffee and ketchup for my fries. The table next to us all ordered the burger and it looked very appetizing so I ordered it as well, but it was so salty. My husband and friends enjoyed their meals. I most likely wouldn't return unless my top choice brunch spots were already booked. The ambiance was the best part about this place. read more

Chez Maggy is the best restaurant in Denver. French cuisine at its finest, by Ludo Lefebre. Ludo is not only nice and fun, he's creative, while sticking to French tradition as his foundation. The flavors he infuses are rich, but sometimes unexpected in the best way. Consistently excellent! The service is impeccable. Ask for Birch - best waiter this side of the Mississippi! The decorations are beautiful and the bar area is classy, yet relaxed, If you haven't been, you haven't had your best meal yet! read more

Breakfast here has been a two for two, the chilaquiles are the no brainer must order item here. They are a nice blend of acidic and spicy (not sure how they make the sauce but boy is it tasty. Bread and jam as simple as it sounds was scrumptious. This spot is winning me back with its Parisian vibes maybe I will give dinner a second shot. Service is reasonably friendly and just fyi there's auto gratuity which they are very transparent about. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant located inside the Thompson Denver hotel. As such, do note that they add a 20% charge on top of your check. 17% goes to the staff and 3% goes to the hotel. Everything we had for dinner and breakfast was well-executed and flavorful, and I was surprised by how generous the portions were. Service was friendly and attentive, and I loved the atmosphere here. This was an amazing breakfast. Simple, elegant, satisfying...it was delicious. I had the Denver omelette, coffee and sourdough toast. The meal was beautiful and so tasty. The staff were attentive and helpful. Food came quickly and they were nearby for anything we might have needed. The space is also so beautiful. The wallpaper, fixtures and textiles are interesting and elegant. I caught myself thinking "I didn't know the those two things would go together, but they do and it's perfect." I've dined at a lot of hotel restaurants, but Chez Maggy is stellar. For lunch I ordered the Ahi Salad, but the standouts were the Onion Soup and French Fries. What made the soup so unique was using veal bone broth and pepper. It was incredible, including the massive layer of cheese. The French fries were cooked in clarified butter. Super tasty and crunchy. For breakfast, I had to order the Denver Omelette when in Denver. What stood out was the amazing creaminess of the eggs. A must-order. My wife had the French Toast which was thick brioche covered in cinnamon. Yum! Like the rest of the hotel, super friendly and engaging servers. I only wished we had done dinner here.
