This might be my new favorite place, all the food we got during Denver restaurant week was AMAZING. I've been here one other time for happy hour, and that was great as well. We sat at the bar and the bartender was great, the drinks were good and he was attentive. The Mediterranean spritz is a good option for drinks! For food, everything blew us away. I need to go back for those ribs. The Shishito peppers and brussels sprouts were some great appetizers. We love Brussel sprouts and these were super unique with pear and burrata. The croquetas were impeccable, and you have to get the bacon wrapped dates. Honestly, I can't speak highly enough about the food, I don't know if you can go wrong with anything on that menu. My first time to Ultreia came the closest to reminding me of my visit to Madrid, Spain. The vermouth on tap really did it! And of course, they have the exposed jamon. I enjoy coming here most in the summer/spring, when the weather is nice, and I can sit outside on the large patio that's adjacent to Denver Union Station. And of course, for the Happy Hour specials. They have both drinks and food on HH. The HH food is extra small sizing, but it's also fun to just get light snacks and try a few things that are different, and you maybe haven't had before. They used to have, not sure if they still do, specials during the week that is a bottle of wine & paella for two at a set price, but I never made it to try that particular combo. They also had a large paella pan cooking outside one day when I wasn't expecting it, but I'm not sure when they do this! Was invited here for a fancy dinner to catch up with some friends. It's located in the Denver Union Station, which already is fancier and not as disgusting as the one in Los Angeles. My friends were able to find parking and with a reservation things went swimmingly well. There's bar area seating here and also upstairs seating. The aesthetic is pretty sophisticated and fancy feeling. Great if you wanna swoon a potential SO, I'm sure. Giant mural, European artwork on the walls, low lights, you get the drift. Service was attentive and made sure all of our questions were answered and needs were met, including constant water refills since we visited in the summer. For our dinner we got the: 1) Trio de Jamón: -This comes with 3 different types of Spanish cured hams: Fermin Jamón Serrano, aged 2 years, Jamón Paleta, aged 3 years, and Cinco Jotas Jamón Ibérico de Bellota, acorn fed, aged 4 years. -When I see Iberico, I can only think of Ton Toko Ton lol. -Each different piece of ham has a different texture, softness, melt in your mouth goodness as well as different salty and savory flavors. -The aged 4 years one definitely has a "higher quality" texture and flavor, but a lot of us at our table really liked the aged 3 years one. Whatever that jamon was fed, cured, seasoned with, etc. made the flavor very "whole" and rich. But all were pretty good to be honest. -If you're a charcuterie enjoyer and just like the meats, this is a must. 2) Shishito Peppers: -I've had this as an appetizer at other restaurants before and it's always a solid pick. -It's blistered shishito peppers with some crunchy feta spice balls? Looks like the forbidden boba you get when you open new packaged items, but it adds a nice pop of texture to the dish 3) Gambas al ajillo: -An appetizer of head on shrimps drenched in Calabrian chili garlic butter and lime parsley. -Can't go wrong with shrimp, especially with the richness of garlic butter and the kick from the lime parsley. Shrimp was a bit dry, but the sauce made up for it overall. 4) Moorish Spiced Ribs: -Comes with Basque chilies and olive oil. -I've only ever really eaten ribs aside from American BBQ or in some form of Asian soup, so this was nice. Very seasoned. Not exactly fall off the bone, but overall pretty good. 5) Trucha Navarra: -Pan seared trout with jamon serrano, artichokes, tomato, and spinach tonnato. -Don't think I've ever had ham on fish before this night, but it's a nice mix of textures and flavor with the saltiness of the thin ham and the moist fluffiness of the fish. Veggies are seasoned well and cooked to perfection. 6) Bistec: -This is a hanger steak ala plancha, olive butter sauce and piquillo peppers. -Friend got this medium rare and it was quite tender and juicy. Lots of sauce to add a little kick to the ocean of umami flavor. Decent steak. My friends got some alcoholic drinks and enjoyed it. As a non alchies, I just sipped on water throughout the night. It seems that the menu offerings rotate and change up as well for some of the main course dishes, so keep that in mind. Definitely over ordered as we had leftovers after (this was for 5 adults). We've traveled to Spain and enjoyed the imberico ham and they had it as an option for our meat board. The drinks were good and so were the churros, which we'd recommend with the ice cream. Beautiful restaurant that we have read about in the New York Times & a James Beard winner. The restaurant is actually inside Denver Union Station with some tables outdoors. Ultreia is a modern-classic restaurant with a high-ceilinged room that resembles an art gallery, with wallpaper in the style of a landscape painting that depicts cows and pastures . The name means encouragement, to keep going reaching beyond and heading onward. Our waiter explained that the food is from a beautiful San Sebastián in Northern Spain. Came in on a Wednesday night about an hour before close and got seated right away! The waitress was super helpful because we were so indecisive and she told us her favorites and we went with those. Can't remember the exact name but basically got the meat tray and added cheese! Everything was delicious. The inside is super cute and dim lit. Perfect for a date night! The fifth and final stop of our Downtown Denver Food Tour brought us to Denver Union Station. Our guide pointed to where the restaurant is located, but we didn't even go in. We all sat in the seating area of the Station and the dessert Pastel De Nata was brought out to us on a tray. The dessert itself was okay, nothing special. By the way they looked I thought they would be really flaky. Not too sweet though with good texture. Interesting that the name of this pastel is "de nada" as in "from nothing". Nuns made these from nothing when monks kept the egg yolk for themselves and gave them the egg whites. So these nuns were able to make delicious pastries "from nothing". The watermelon gazpacho was interesting, refreshing with fresh melons, cantaloupe and cucumber. The halibut seafood soup was hearty and tasty yet served at room temperature. The duck confit with fresh mushrooms was also tasty, and served warm. All would have been better if served a little warmer. Dessert was a nice mascarpone tarte. Service was okay. Wine selection focuses on Spanish and Portuguese selections and is quite reasonably priced by the glass or bottle. Located in Union Station, Ultreia is a relatively small restaurant, so reservations are recommended. Bar looks phenomenal with some interesting hand-crafted cocktails on that menu. read more

Decided to head here for a quick happy hour since I was going to depart from Union Station. The vibe of the station is beautiful, and this restaurant fits right in. Ribs: These were so tender, they fell off the bone! I am a huge fan of cartilage, and that was my favorite part of this. It was quite fatty, so I did not eat some of the fat. However, I think it was a great deal. It came with two pieces for the happy hour portion. Gildas: I was intrigued by this. I love, salty things, particularly fish and olives. It was my first time trying this. I loved! The acidity of the pepper gave it a bright pop. I wish it came with more than two pieces. I want to go home and try making them on my own. Sangria: This was not too thick nor sweet. I enjoyed it! it washed down the other items. Charcuterie board: This came with nuts, olives, chorizo, cheese, and pan con tomate. I ended up just eating the pan con tomate and taking it to go to eat at the airport because I was short on time. I wish there was a bit more tomato spread for the bread. Ultreia was my reintroduction to Denver dining, and it wasn't a disappointment. It was also a nonstarter. We checked open table before going to see if there was availability. Since it was a Saturday night, that seemed prudent. They had all kinds of openings. However, Ehen we walked in, the hostess initially refused to seat us, saying they were " booked up". I told my friend to make the open table reservation and about 15 minutes later, we were at a table. I don't assume to understand the mysteries of table scheduling, but it ticked me off enough to mention it. The experience from there was excellent. Great service and really great food, including a couple of things I hadn't had before. Apart from the bacon wrapped dates (my favorite tapa), I really enjoyed the corn toast (blistered corn, whipped romesco, paprika oil, country bread) and the queso al Horno (warm feta, jalapeño-basil oil, piri piri nuts, cilantro, baguette). The cheese was delicious and went especially well with the olives and almonds. I kind of wish the corn toast had a spicy element, but the brow bread was perfect, so with a thick, chewy crust. They had a good tined fish selection, and my friend's sherry was excellent. Unfortunately, the predinner ice cream didn't leave room for cheese or dessert. Maybe next time. Recommend. read more

A group of us had dinner here and our server recommended the "feast" which featured an assortment of dishes, meant to be shared and served two, but honestly probably could have served three...we ordered four of these for a group of 9 and had a ton of food leftover. Everything was really good, but we probably should have just ordered three. The highlight for me was the trout. It was nicely cooked and flavorful. The ribs were good as well and the salad was fresh and tasty.The potatoes were good and came in a huge serving. Again unless you have a huge appetite, this could feed 3 easily. The custard tarts for dessert were delicious and not too sweet. The sangria was fine, but I'd probably just go with wine next time; it didn't have any fruit in it and so seemed more like a semisweet wine over ice. Service was good, but the one unusual thing was that they only provided one plate for all courses...so the same plate you eat your salad on is what you use for the hot dishes and dessert. It would have been nicer to swap out plates between courses to better enjoy each dish without say, salad dressing on the plate for the next dish. Let's be honest, food prices skyrocketed now and everywhere you go, restaurants are trying to cut costs, portions are smaller and quality went downhill. I can't blame them. Not their fault. Restaurants are struggling. And I try my best to support small businesses to keep them running. Having said all that, I gave Ultreia a five star rating but it's not for their food. Their food looked and tasted like they were taken out of frozen packaged hors d'oeuvres, microwaved, drizzled with some sour mushy sauce then divided into tiny plates and served. Low quality cheap food coupled with dirty wine glasses. BUT I gave this place a five star rating because of Domenic. He was polite, courteous, respectful, considerate and a true gentleman doing everything he could to give his customers a wonderful dining experience even though they were short staffed and he was running around being a one man show under so much pressure. Bravo to him! He genuinely cared for people walking into the restaurant regardless whether they were tourists and he will never see them again or locals. Five stars goes to him!! A cute Portuguese restaurant in Union Station. My bf said it is suppose to be one of the most happening places to visit. I don't really like portuguese food but my bf does. My fav was the Fruto de la terra- it's the vegetarian version of the fruit del mar, comes with an orange spicy cream, buttery, nice flavors. The salad comes with huge white beans. My friend and I had a girls night here and it was above what I anticipated!! I recommend a reservation forsure. It's a cute cozy smaller space, they have like 6 tables downstairs and then an upstairs as well as man outside patio. We had a table inside on the bottom level. The vibe was great, felt very European. I wish I got our servers name, he was so great!! We ended up staying 3 hours and there was never the sense of him trying to get us to go. He let us do our things and was very attentive refilling wine glasses and our water as needed.
