It does some things well, others less so. Strengths include restaurant ambience and individual elements of their dishes, plus some nice seasonal rotations on pasta. Weaknesses for me include the kitchen's inconsistency and their (unwarranted) steep pricing on pasta. Although the pork I tried was great and the noodles were al dente, my pasta dish had very little flavor and was mostly boring. Also, the side of focaccia was a big letdown - sort of like garlic bread you'd make in the oven by sprinkling olive oil on it; it reminded me of Texas toast more than anything, and again, very bland. If the rest of the meal was like the "focaccia" this would be a 2-star review. My gripe on pricing is this: The Parlor gives you the choice of a small plate at $18 or a larger plate for $30 (give or take depending on the specific dish). The small plate is sort of "leftover portions" and unsatisfying, but $30 for something larger seems ridiculous. It's fine to charge more for exceptional food or generous portions, but they're providing neither while maintaining high prices. I've been coming here for years and I remember the food being much better than what I had tonight (also it was cold when I returned to my house only two streetlights away?) I think it's a consistency thing and a lack of attention to detail in the kitchen. My advice is to check out The Parlor during slower hours. It's still a nice vibe and good for a date or a family outing. Still, there's better Italian food in Phoenix, with several options closer to downtown. read more

The food here is on point, so much so that I had lunch here two days in a row! That's kind of a big deal since I'm not from town. They've perfected the craft of pappardelle bolognese. The charcuterie board was also well balanced and those damn pecans are so addicting!!! Wish I could've taken a pound of those pecans back with me to San Diego. Cute restaurant but loud. You are better off seated on patio. They do have a nice fireplace outside. The pizza is delicious, no matter what kind you get. The pasta dish with pinon nuts is amazing and perfect amount. The lemonade is a bit weak but tasty. Depending on what day or evening you go service does vary. We got better service on a Friday night than a Wednesday afternoon. But just the same you will enjoy it. Parking is a task because the lot is small. My wife and I decided to drop by after our date at the zoo. The staff is very welcoming and the ambiance is modern and classy. We order two dishes: the spicy seafood linguini and salsiccia pizza. Spicy seafood linguini (4/5): sauce is nice and the linguini had great texture. The seafood added nice flavor combined with an extra kick from the red pepper flakes. Good but not amazing for the price ($29). Salsiccia pizza (5/5): amazing, this is a must get. All the toppings and flavors mixed perfectly together. This was definitely our favorite and it was worth it ($19). Food is accurately described on the menu and there are lots of tasty options. I would still say Arizona's best belongs to La Piazza al Forno in Glendale, though, followed by Forno 301. The Parlor is a Phoenix gem. Causal comfortable vibe, great patio that perfect even if it's not blazing hot, bar and main restaurant areas are all good. Outside is a little quieter, so we like that. It's a bit tough for parking and location is a bit difficult to see unless you have gps or really paying attention. Ever since I saw the awards this place got, I knew I had to give it a try. We got a couple pizzas and the basil pesto pasta. The pesto was so fragrant, fresh, and slightly herbaceous. The pizzas here are more akin to the margherita style of pizza with a more tender dough and wetter ingredients. While I am more of a fan of NY style, the pizza was fantastic and so tasty. I made a last minute reservation the same day through open table, as we wanted to eat immediately, so we showed up at our reservation time, at 5:15pm, and were greeted enthusiastically and seated immediately. We took a couple of minutes to order, deciding on the watermelon salad, and three small pizzas each. The salad was light and refreshing, while the pizzas were each cooked perfectly - probably the best of Phoenix's pizza offerings, and good enough to rival New York pizza. Went here last night for dinner with a couple of friends for the first time. Everything was delightful from the service to the atmosphere to the food. Our waiter was helpful and gave great suggestions. We got here just in time to order a drink and appetizers under the Happy Hour Menu(4-6pm). What a great deal on a decent selection! I have just found my new favorite restaurant. I had this place on my list for years. I finally got the chance to stop by and it did not disappoint. First off our waiter Alyssa was so kind and recommended everything we ordered. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend ordering the Spicy Florentine, it is their award winning pizza. It paired amazingly with their Az red blend wine. For the pasta I fell in love with the Pesto chitarra. It was light but still so flavorful. The restaurant itself is so modern and had dim lighting. The funghi is a close runner up - it's loaded with the most flavorful roasted mushrooms. I've also tried the margherita but it's not quite on par with the others (it's just a little plain by comparison). Really amazing salads as well, I usually go for the roasted beet and goat cheese. My preferred order from here is a salad to pair with a couple slices of pizza then have pizza leftover to take home. The pizza tasted amazing, the fig jam and toasted almonds and arugula was a great combination that I would have never imagined to go well on a pizza.
