An unexpected flight delay led me to an amazing dining experience! My flight back to Los Angeles from Phoenix was delayed, and I had about 45 minutes to spare. I wanted something nourishing and flavorful, not the usual run-of-the-mill fast food. I did a quick Google search, came across Urban Fraîche, saw all the positive reviews, and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did! When I arrived, there was a private Yelp event taking place. The young lady greeting guests outside was very pleasant and directed me to the front entrance. That's where I met one of the owner's sons, who turned out to be an amazing conversationalist. His customer service was top-notch, and what really blew me away was finding out that he was only 13 years old! His confidence, communication skills, attentiveness, and professionalism were above and beyond what I've seen from someone his age in a professional environment. My goodness, what a talent! After I explained my situation and the limited time I had, his brother overheard our conversation and offered to help me figure out a quick meal. I told them I'd leave it up to them to suggest something that would be quick, nourishing, and flavorful. They recommended the chicken kebabs, and that was exactly what I needed. I had the chicken kebabs with broccolini and purple cabbage, and when I tell you that meal was amazing! The flavors, the presentation, the quality of the food, everything was on point. Honestly, it was heavenly! I initially planned to take my food to go, but I decided to sit down and really enjoy the meal. I'm glad I did, because the hospitality just kept getting better. I was also having trouble getting my phone to charge in my rental car, and my young host went above and beyond by offering me a charger while I ate. That kind of thoughtfulness really says a lot about a person. I also saw the owner's wife giving some of the Yelp guests a tour and sharing stories about the family's journey. It was beautiful to see the family working together, interacting with guests, and taking pride in what they've built. I have to say, the entire family was amazing. I came in as a traveler trying to find a decent meal before heading back to the airport, and I received so much more than that. The food was incredible, but the way they took care of me was what really made the experience special. I honestly don't know that I've ever had a restaurant experience quite like that, where the hospitality was so genuine and unexpected, just completely off the cuff. I was blown away! And to see that level of customer service and professionalism from their 13-year-old son was something special in itself. Great atmosphere, food and service! The lobster ravioli was my personal favorite, the sauce is so rich and addictive. It was so good that I used the leftover pita bread to clean my plate. The kebob platter was a great deal, it was a large portion big enough to split among 3. But I could also see myself ordered it as my own entree. The watermelon salad was good, but it didn't particularly stand out to me. I think I would prefer more cheese on it, but it was still refreshing and a good way to start off dinner. Both of my drinks were delicious, and the dessert was the perfect bite to end my meal with! Even though they were busy with a private event, staff were quick and friendly! Urban Fraiche came up in a search when I was looking for a nice restaurant before heading to a concert. It was on the way, farm-to-table concept, looked intriguing, had options for both my husband and me, AND they took reservations... great, sold! From the outside, it is pretty unassuming, but walking in, with the coziness of the place, the staff, and the Mediterranean/Middle Eastern vibe -- we immediately liked it! Our server, Romeo, was so kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating -and honestly, the other servers were as well. We started with the watermelon salad, which on a VERY hot Phoenix summer day just hit the spot! My husband, being a must-have-protein kinda guy, went with the surf and turf, and I couldn't pass up the cauliflower "steak" experience. Both dishes were excellent -- colorful, fresh, and robust in flavor. I had also ordered a falafel earlier, which was excellent. Since both my salad and entrée leaned a little sweeter than I personally prefer -- especially the cauliflower, where I think a hint of smoked salt and a little heat would have balanced it beautifully -- I needed to finish with something savory. So, I asked for two more falafels. To my surprise, they came with the full-on presentation and flavors -- and I am SO happy they did! As a bit of a falafel "snob," that dish was divine, perfectly balanced, and ended up being the highlight of my meal! My reasons for giving 4 stars instead of 5: it is definitely on the pricey side, my dishes leaned a bit sweet for my taste, and the food did take quite a while to come out -- especially considering that for part of our visit we were the only table, and the restaurant never really got busy. We loved it here! Beautiful Egyptian restaurant created by a wonderful Egyptian husband and wife team. We loved the entire building inside and out as well as our drinks and the food. I had Cairo Nights, and a Falafel Sandwich. My boyfriend had a Cardamom Iced Tea with lemon honey, and a Swordfish Kabob plate. We chose couscous and saffron rice as sides. We lastly had Turkish Coffee, and the Syrian Rice Pudding. I can definitely see why this made it on the Michelin Southwest guide. We hope to bring family when they visit or friends. Visited during Restaurant Week, May 2026. The new owners have done a spectacular job of giving this restaurant a new vibe with a Mediterranean ambiance. We had reservations for nine so we were seated upstairs. Our waitress was excellent and her service was perfect. Drinks and food all arrived quickly. The owner/chef came up to check on us twice to make sure that everything was running smoothly, which it was. I had the lobster bisque, the steak kabob and the rice pudding. Each dish was served and plated with care. It's the little things that can make the difference. The flavors were great and the whole experience was a delight. This is one of those places where you go to for the sheer ambiance of the place. It features a vibrant garden and piquant furniture. Even the bathroom has a unique interior design to it. So, of course, we ordered from that menu! I had the beet salad, the kefta, and the baklava and a coconut drink. The beet salad was great except I didn't like eating the stems of the watercress. Came here for restaurant week and bc they're part of the resy/amex benefit. The space is very eclectic with their decor and dining ware, which was super cool. The woman serving us was very nice but also a bit slow- there was a table seated 45 min after us and was served their food at the same time as us and they also ordered from the restaurant week menu. The belly dancer was fun but nothing too spectacular. The lobster bisque only had a few chunks of lobster, but I enjoyed the flavor- croutons or a baguette would've improved the dish. I ordered the Egyptian dish, and I have to agree with another reviewer that it was ok. While the tomato sauce was good, it could've been spicier. My husband ordered the lamb which he enjoyed- the hummus was creamy, but a bit salty. The pita bread was a little burnt, but very fluffy; we'd never had pita bread like that. The baklava was a bit small and while I appreciated it not being too sweet, my husband wanted more sweet. The rice pudding surprised me- it didn't have rice pieces and was more of a yogurt consistency, again also not too sweet; I would've liked more mango pieces. My bf and I were so excited to try this place and saw the high yelp rating. But I was left unhappy and unsatisfied. The vibes, the pictures of food, and the sound of all these healthy, seasonal food are incorporated in the food sounds great. But what we got was not to our liking at all. No complaint for service and we still tip even though we really didn't like it. Lamb chop with saffron rice: I was excited for this dish but something just tastes different or "off" to me. It was slightly gaming but I didn't mind that, but the flavors used just throws me off. It's probably because I wasn't familiar with the new flavor. There was also a blueberry sauce and blueberries to go with the lamb too. As for the rice, I was expecting savory saffron flavor rice. Yet, it was sweet because they added pineapple. So the rice was sweet instead of savory. 12oz ribeye - I think this dish suppose to come with fries but we didn't get fries. The steak had a lot of fat instead of a good quality meat. What an incredible dining experience! From the moment we walked in, we felt genuinely welcomed. The owner is friendly, down-to-earth, hilarious, and makes you feel right at home. The food was absolutely outstanding. We had the Beef Wellington, goat curry, lamb shoulder over pasta, and lamb chops--every dish was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. You can really tell they take pride in the quality of their food. Our server, with a hairstyle that reminded us of Bo Derek in 10, was simply awesome--friendly, attentive, and fun. The bartender was just as personable and helped make the evening even more enjoyable. It's rare to find a restaurant that serves food of this caliber while making you feel like family. Staff is friendly but they forgot to bring a takeout box and check when requested and we waited an additional 10 minutes before leaving. The soups are quite large portions. We had both the carrot and lentil soup which are quite tasty. The carrot soup is slightly sweet. The Octopus appetizer is very well done and delicious. The chef and owner, Din Waziry, has been all over the world as a chef for Marriott and has great stories to tell. He and his wife and partner Hibba decided to settle down in Phoenix and opened this restaurant which serves Mediterranean themed meals and also some classic Egyptian dishes. They also have belly dance performance a few times a week, which creates a wholesome dinning experience. Then the food. As you can see in the photos, a lot of things were going on in one plate. But surprisingly, they all went well together. The octopus had a strong charcoal smell but not overcooked. The watermelon salad was refreshing and nutty. Didn't know what to expect seeing Urban Fraiche on Resy but it blew us away with their food quality and hospitality. Entering the restaurant it feels like you're walking through an open air market on the Nile. The decor is very eccentric with lots of Egyptian theming throughout. You sure don't feel like you're in Phoenix anymore! We got the watermelon salad, grilled octopus, curry goat and ended the meal with baklava and Syrian rice pudding. Everything was delicious and you can tell their use of local produce here as they let the natural flavors shine. My favorites were the grilled octopus charred perfectly with an array of sauces on the plate with pear and mango. It looked crazy but it was one of my favorite renditions of the dish. Curried goat was fork tender and you could tell the quality of ingredients in the cous cous with raisins and nuts. Syrian rice pudding is a must order for dessert as I loved that combo of not to sweet rice pudding balanced with I believe rose, mango and hazelnuts. The owner himself is a whirlwind of energy finishing plates and introducing himself through the dining room. We got to take some photos with him at the end with Cleo's tiara and a King Tut hat. He's a hoot and an absolute joy to be around. It was hilarious hearing his stories and how he found some of his furniture pieces and artifact replicas in his dining room. He even has a life size replica of King Tuts throne if you wanna sit there. Also has a furniture and antique store nearby that sells some of the pieces he's found. This restaurant really feels like an extension of himself and his pride of Egypt. Service was excellent and they even have belly dancing Thursday - Sunday. Unfortunately, that was far from what we experienced. The worst part was the attitude from our server. He asked how we liked our drinks, and I told him my drink was great, but that the portion was too small. His response was, "Maybe you should order a bigger drink next time." Really? It has an Egyptian theme as you walk through the entrance then turns into Mediterranean as you walk into the main dining room and the outside patio was eclectic hippy vibe. Service, ambience, cuisine, all top notch, staff were incredible, knowledgeable, fun and easy going. A bottle of French sparkling was to start, maybe a few others :) It was at lunch, but they had a good crowd, salads to start, we shared a delicious watermelon salad and beet salad, the a mix of entrees from braised baby goat, rack of lamb, lobster omelette and more, all were well presented and yummy.
