For our first foray into Persian Food in Phoenix we stopped at AZ Kabob House. This family-run restaurant is open 7 days a week and serves a variety of Persian/Iranian as well as some Greek & Mediterranean appetizers and sandwiches. We tried a couple of their Persian Kabobs and found them to be excellent! The Koobideh (ground beef) kabobs were tender and juicy, with great flavor. The Boneless Chicken kabob had saffron flavor and was cooked to perfection. The salad was nice and crispy with just enough oil/vinegar dressing. Customer service was excellent, with very attentive staff. Their dining area's ambiance is good, is well lit and is nice and cool. There are plenty of parking space just outside in the shopping center. The food was very good... we will definitely have to come back to try the other items on their menu. Two thumbs up! read more

AZ Kabob's is a surprisingly delightful Mediterranean restaurant. It's small and quaint, but out of all the Mediterranean restaurants we've dined at, it stands out as one of the most authentic. We have friends whose home cooking we love, and this is honestly the closest we've found to that same level of flavor and authenticity. The service is friendly and always delivered with a genuine smile and a sense of excitement that makes you feel truly welcomed. Such a great spot! I decided I wanted a chill Saturday night of reading and good food and this was perfect. I started with hummus and followed up with koobideh kebab entree. Both were great. I did add a bit of lime juice and salt to the hummus for added zest. The kebab and half Shirazi salad were delish! I added a bit of salt for personal preference. Love the sumak! They were unfortunately out of my Doogh but maybe next time. Fun that they have added wings to the menu. Customer service was great, and the place looked clean. I went in for an early dinner around 6:30 pm, and there was only one other couple dining in. Even so, my food took more than 20 minutes to come out, which felt a bit long. I did notice a steady flow of to-go orders and people coming in to pick up, so that might have slowed things down. The price for my meal was good. I ordered the beef kabobs with fries. The portion size was great, but the flavor wasn't what I was expecting it felt like it was missing seasoning or spices. I asked for ranch and hot sauce to add some flavor, but the ranch was bland, and the hot sauce tasted more like something for chicken wings. It helped a little, but it didn't really pair well with the kabobs. The fries were okay, but kind of dry. Not in a "not greasy" way they were clearly cooked in oil but they were stiff and lacked that fresh, soft texture inside. read more

I hadn't tried this restaurant yet so I bought a surprise bag from Too Good To Go one evening. It is located near Harkins theatre and is easy to get to. The place is clean and spacious and has a large mirror, giving it a regal feel. For my food, I had the choice of chicken or gyro, and I went with chicken since that's my favorite (even though I do love gyros). I waited about 5-10 minutes for my order and while I was there, a woman came in to pick up her food. Once my food was done and bagged, the employee gave me a cup so I could get a drink, that was nice of her. I got home and tried my food: chicken shawarma but more like kebabs instead of thinly sliced. It was juicy and cooked well, and the rice was yummy. My food also came with yogurt (delicious) and a refreshing salad with vinaigrette. Everything tasted good when I ate the majority the next day and I was pleased with my meal. I would consider returning and trying some additional menu items! read more

I stopped by AZ Kabob House for dinner on a Wednesday evening. Located in the same shopping center as Harkins and a bunch of other restaurants, bars, and shops, it's a busy parking lot but you'll find a spot. Ambiance (3/5): This Persian restaurant is a small and pretty no frills establishment. More of a takeout spot in my mind, but still a comfortable spot to have some Middle Eastern food. Service (4/5): I placed a takeout order over the phone. Smooth process all-around. Drinks (N/A): No drinks for me on this visit. Food (4/5): If you've never had Persian food before, run, don't walk. It's delicious. I went with the barg which consists of succulent cubes of steak, saffron rice, a large juicy tomato, and pita bread. The meat was cooked just right and melted in your mouth. Add a generous portion of saffron rice and you have a fantastic meal ahead of you. The tomato was a nice touch too and standard with Persian fare. My only complaint. One small slice of pita bread, and a pretty lackluster one. I've had several meals at The Persian House which is close by. The Persian House is much fancier but the food is comparable. So if you're looking to get similar fare at a discount compared to the competition, my vote is for AZ Kabob House. Can't wait to come back to try some of their other offerings! read more

Pretty good menu. One item that I wanted to order had been discontinued. Good prices and fresh overall. Also, they were sold out of ayran...the yogurt drink that I would normally order with kebabs. Its been a while, but decided to give this place another shot. Food: Ground Beef Kabob had an odd taste, not sure if it was the spices or the beef just was not of good quality. Gyros, not good. Small wedges of overly burnt pieces. Speaking of wedges. On a Gyro plate, only got 2 pita wedges, which equal 1/4 of a pita. Really? What does a while pita cost at a wholesale level 30 cents? Just increase the cost of all meals by 50 cents and give me a FULL pita. I have never had this level of nonsense. Service: So the tablet gets flipped around for a tip. For what? Being the nice guy I am, I drop 20%. What do I get for it? No silverware. No one checks on the meal. I get my own drinks and Koobideh does not come with any sauce? The kebob chicken is so juicy and flavorful - pretty outstanding. That said, I wish there was more of it for the dish being $16. The picture did show six pieces and it did come with six pieces, it just wasn't as filling as it could've been! I ordered through DoorDash... order through their restaurant site. DoorDash didn't make it clear the fesenjan didn't come with chicken automatically... so we were surprised to see no chicken. It's $3 extra to add chicken, not bad. DoorDash also didn't have the chicken shwarma as an option which was weird. The fesenjan itself was very tasty, just would've been top notch with chicken - my bad! They definitely gave us extra rice... we have enough for days. The house salad is standard but the dressing was citrus-y and refreshing. We will be coming back and ordering fesenjan with chicken and trying the chicken shawarma. read more

We were definitely misled by the good Yelp reviews for this place & that we absolutely love (normally) everything on their menu, but it just didn't do it for us. We were so disappointed. We frequently seek out this style of cuisine, but this was like an Amerianized fast food version of it. The chicken shawarma was just OK at best & the lamb was tasteless, tough & chewy. The taziki tasted mostly like straight sour cream & nothing more. The baklava was definitely the worst we've had anywhere, also lacking any real flavor. Definitely won't be going back. read more
