Weeks earlier we had vacationed in Sweden, Denmark, and Finland, and years earlier we had vacationed in Norway and Iceland, so I felt excited to see how Fet-Fisk's foods compared to the cuisines of those countries. The seating hostess and the waitress promptly and politely served us. The menu listed shared plates such as oysters, mussels, rainbow trout filet, and New York strip steak. My husband is not the most adventurous eater, so I ordered everything! Here are my reviews for what we ate: Pickled Mackerel - 4 stars - The mackerel had a pickled flavor and was accompanied by smokey beets and sour cabbage. Roast Beet and Apple Salad - 4 stars - This salad did NOT have greens. Chunks of beets and apples were mixed with fermented walnuts, spicy horseradish, and apple butter creme. Roast Half Chicken - 5 stars - This chicken was the one thing that my husband liked and described as "pretty good." I ate the thigh, and he ate the breast. The meat was juicy, the skin was nicely crispy. On the side were honeycrisp apples, celery leaf, and farmer's cheese. Rye Focaccia - 5 stars - In Nordic countries, the rye that I ate was very darkly colored, but this focaccia was lightly colored. I did enjoy the bread as well as its olive oil and tomato balsamic. Dark Chocolate Torte - 5 stars - The chocolate was very rich. It was covered in sour lingonberries. On the side was sweet farmer's cheese. The flavored balance each other nicely. Overall, I thought that the flavors were not entirely Nordic, but I could see influences. (I asked my Finnish friend to give her opinion of the menu, and she replied that many of the ingredients, such as the fish and rye, were Scandinavian but that the dishes seemed to be more Central European, like a modern interpretation of Nordic cuisine that might be found in Sweden and Denmark.) The total price for the five menu items, a 3% kitchen service fee, and tax was $95. We also added a tip.
