Food: We ordered the Spaghetti Pesto Alfredo & Rigatoni Tomato Cream. The ingredients listed on the menu is what you get. Very simple, no extra effort given beyond the output of a classic italian dish. Each plate proportionately could have fed two people so it felt like we were eating for four. We both left full, but underwhelmed with the flavor profiles rendered. Service: Overall our waitress was pretty absent, having asked us how we were doing only twice, leaving little room for any comments or feedback to be offered. She recognized her absence and offered us a surprise tiramisu (complimentary) to make up for the lack of attentiveness to our table. Seating: A large bar stretches the restaurant accompanied by wooden chairs, tables and a few booths tucked against the parallel wall. The seating is not tight, meaning you have space between yourself and other parties but the wooden chairs/tables were uncomfortable. In 2026, we just expected a little more from a restaurant charging $20+ for pasta plates. Affordability: If you're going out for drinks and an appetizer, you might be able to sneak your bill in for under $50, but otherwise forget it. Each plate is $20+ with options on the wine list reaching as high as $200+ ... We wouldn't describe this atmosphere as fancy, but the prices are trying to be. We went this past weekend for my husband's birthday and had the bread with garlic sizzle butter, brussel sprouts, rigatoni with meatballs and rigatoni with tomato cream sauce with a crispy chicken cutlet added to it. All of the food was fantastic. The brussels were especially good and a huge portion! The downsides are the service and the ambiance. The service started good but we waited a very long time for our entrees and after we finished, the server was pretty slow to get us our check. The ambiance isn't great. It's a bit odd as far as decor goes, the floor could be upgraded, and the tables are pretty basic. This was my first time here and I'm not huge on Italian food but I heard good things and wanted to try. We ordered beans and greens and arancini as appetizers when I tell you those beans and greens CHANGED MY LIFE! So much flavor, the arancini was also great but both came out a little cold although the waitress did offer to heat it up but it didn't even matter it was still delish. I ordered the gnocchietti or something like that with a cream sauce and grilled chicken my friend had the rigatoni with eggplant they wer both tasty but after the apps and a few drinks we couldn't fit anymore food in us so we got it wrapped up and ordered a cannoli to go. We had a 5:00 reservation and were out of there in a little over an hour but the place filled up pretty quickly and I'm not surprised it's definitely a good date night or celebration spot. The outside was super crunchy, and there was just the right amount of cheese on top. The pasta was also dusted with some cheese, which tied it all together nicely. We had a lovely dinner here on a Saturday night. The service was exceptional. Despite being very busy, our server accommodated our request to switch tables due to being directly under a vent that was blowing cold air on us. It took a little while to do this and she comped our drinks (totally unnecessary, but very appreciated). We started with the fried mozzarella and the bread and sizzling garlic. If you like butter and garlic, get the sizzling garlic. So good! We had the pesto spaghetti and chicken Parmesan as our main entrees. The entrees are pretty big portions and were delicious. Tonight was my wife's and my first visit to this East Liberty restaurant. We were looking for outstanding Italian food and believe we have found it at Garbarino's. The portions are amazing, the food is excellent, and the service was friendly. We enjoyed the white bean / escarole / Italian sausage appetizer, and I had the chicken parmesan. My wife had a Caesar salad special with grilled chicken. We would absolutely recommend all three dishes. I won't even try to detail all the things that made each of these dishes so wonderful. Garbarino's has some of the best traditional Italian food in Pittsburgh. The sangria is strong and delicious, and it's a very reasonable price as well. The brussel sprouts are great as well. Their bolognese and rigatoni tomato cream are my favorite. They are so good that I never get tired of going back and ordering them again. This spot is such a gem! My boyfriend and I met my family friends here for dinner. Such a cute spot with friendly staff! I had an Aperol Spritz which was made perfectly. We split the crispy Brussels sprouts which were so insanely good, I need to recreate the recipe. If you get any app, get the Brussels sprouts (also balance with the carbs, right?!). All of the pastas and sauces are made from scratch! The portions are HUGE. I got the Rigatoni & meatballs and I was blown away! The meatballs are the Garbarino family recipe and they were the best meatballs I've ever had. I don't usually go for rigatoni but it was perfect. Also the best marinara sauce I've ever had (I usually only have store-bought marinara lol). I got a cannoli for dessert and it was perfect; one side had chocolate chips and one side had pistachio crumbles. My boyfriend's Gnochetti dish was incredible! He said it's now his favorite gnocchi dish in Pittsburgh. He also got a slice of cheesecake for dessert and loved it, but he was upset that there was no graham cracker crust. I came here with a big group for restaurant week and we had a great time! Some of us went with the restaurant week special (which was an amazing deal!) and others ordered off the regular menu. I had the crispy Brussels which were phenomenal, the rigatoni and meatballs (not usually a fan of meatballs but the vibes told me they'd be amazing, and they were!), and cheesecake with cherry sauce for dessert. I am attributing this to the fact that it was restaurant week and they were perhaps understaffed. I still plan on returning here despite that. There was SO much food and we got so many compliments saying this was the best food they've had at a bridal shower. First time here, not impressed. The food was nothing amazing. Red sauce was a decent quick sauce, with meatballs that had too much breading in them. The portions were a good size so definitely come hungry. The fresh focaccia bread with hot garlic and butter was my favorite part of the meal. I had the chicken piccata, but it needed salt. The sauce was too buttery and the potatoes were soggy. The grilled zucchini was the star of the dish. The decor, needs cleaned and updated. The owner and chef Drew is awesome and definitely knows what he's doing! My most recent visit was in February for my mom's birthday. It is her favorite Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh. Our food was amazing and they have good Italian wines too. The brussel sprouts are a staple, but I was most impressed by the caprese app this time! It came with the most amazing fresh mozzarella/burrata ever! I wonder if they make it in house. It was so good. We each got different pasta dishes, and I went with a creamy pesto. 5 stars. I tried a cannoli for the first time and can say it's one of the best in Pittsburgh also. We made reservations here for our family to celebrate our daughter's white coat ceremony at Pittsburgh Medical School. The inside was nice although a little dark. Our waitress brought water and menus. We ordered drinks and they were brought pretty quickly. Everyone thought the drinks were very good. The entree prices on the menu were pretty steep and I was surprised that nothing came with them. So we ordered bread at $6 a basket and salads at $12 each. Then I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan and asked what pasta came with that. The waitress told me pasta wasn't included. I then asked if pasta was included with any entree and was told only the Rigatoni & Meatballs. So I ordered that. What a mistake. At $26, this was the worst meatball & pasta dish I've ever had and I've eaten in hundreds of Italian restaurants. The meatballs were crumbly, not solid. Probably too much filler and the sauce tasted like it was canned Ragu'. Never coming back here. I highly recommend you find another Italian restaurant; hopefully one that's authentic. read more

We had a mixed experience at Garbarinos. First, though the waitress was kind and friendly, the service was SLOW. The bar menu said they were limited in staff and the bar was limited to certain cocktails, wine, and beer, but the bar was stocked with some great liquor so it was a bit confusing. Secondly, the food was expensive, but the portion sizes were big. Unfortunately we were hit and miss with our dishes. The pasta was good, but both of our proteins (meatballs and salmon) didn't meet our expectations. The salmon was dry, and though the meatballs were soft, they lacked flavor. We did like the crispy Brussels and the pesto Alfredo. Third, the restaurant is very nice and has a lovely intimate space, but also some small things took away from the feel. The menus were beat up and dirty, and there was a bunch of dirty dishes just hanging out at the end of the bar. We don't feel it was worth the cost for us. I am of Italian ancestry and originally from the New York City area so believe that I know Italian food pretty well. My wife and I had dinner at Garbarinos last night with another couple. The food drinks and ambience were all terrific ! Andrew the owner of the restaurant is a fourth generation chef. His great grandparents immigrated from Italy in the early 1900s to New York and have owned restaurants there for three generations. Andrew decided to open his restaurant in Pittsburgh . My wife had chicken. My friend's wife tried the beef Ragu and pasta and my friend and I both ordered pasta with hot sausage and peppers . All dishes were fantastic along with the appetizers of meatballs, brussels sprouts and a order of Caprese .
