Fet-Fisk had been on my radar after hearing so much hype, especially after being named to the 2024 NY Times Best 50 Restaurant list and a 2025 James Beard Award finalist for Best New Restaurant. I made a reservation for two about a month in advance for a birthday dinner and chose the lounge over the dining room based on reviews about the different vibes. Since we had an early reservation, they were also able to accommodate our request to sit at the bar. We shared the spaetzle and fries with house-made ketchup. I ordered the grilled branzino and appreciated the instructions on how to tackle a whole fish. The dulse butter was interesting but a little too overpowering for me, and the vegetable side was a bit underwhelming. My husband enjoyed his roast half chicken and gave it good marks. We also loved the house cream soda and would recommend it for anyone looking for a nonalcoholic drink. Overall, a great birthday night out and a fun chance to expand our palates.

Finally made it here after hearing lots of hype about this restaurant. We had a reservation in the lounge, but we asked to sit at the bar to appreciate their skilled bartenders practicing their craft. It's definitely a special place in Pittsburgh and they do take their menu and dishes very seriously. However, the flavor palette that they chose to showcase is not necessarily my preference. The experience is definitely elevated with a very professional and attentive wait staff. The decor in the longe is definitely a positive feature of this restaurant. Nestled throughout the nooks and crannies of the lounge are an interesting array of Nordic themed things to admire. I ordered the chicken for my entree and it was definitely not boring. It had a thick and flavorful glaze all over it and they incorporated lingonberry. Lingonberry is a theme throughout the menu. I also enjoyed a refreshing lingonberry mocktail to add another element of that flavor. Overall, a very nice restaurant in Pittsburgh worthy of a night out.

I've heard so much about this restaurant I think my expectations were too high. The drinks were too eclectic, they put a twist on them, I would have preferred just a regular dirty martini and screwdriver. The oysters were amazing, very briney. The rest of the food was good, just thought it was overhyped and overpriced.

Fet-Fisk has to be in my top 5 restaurants in Pittsburgh. Every time I've come here, I've left craving more!! At first, I was a little worried about the Nordic seafood cuisine and whether there would be enough options for less adventurous people in our party. But it turns out there's a great selection of dishes for everyone. The roasted half chicken with the incredible lingonberry sauce is one of my favorite dishes of all time. I think the waiter mentioned it was brined overnight for a few days, which makes it unbelievably juicy. The starters are phenomenal as well. They showcase so many unique flavors, textures, and combinations. One of our favorites was the steak tartare, and they had a scallop crudo special that was especially refreshing. If you can make a reservation, I highly recommend it. However, if you can't, they usually offer walk ins but in a separate bar dining area (mostly under red lights). One time we lined up a few minutes before opening, and there were at least 10 people ahead of us, but I think everyone still ended up getting seated. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and kind. I love that we have this local gem in our neighborhood!! Not to mention they've been nominated for James Beard awards a few years in a row.

"Silky" cocktail with rum, basil, centerbe, citrus, syrup, lime, buttermilk

Fet Fisk is a Nordic influenced restaurant/bar in Pittsburgh's Bloomfield neighborhood. Everything was exceptional, a warm and inviting atmosphere, attentive and knowledgeable service, and a seasonal menu featuring sustainably sourced seafood and local produce. I started off with a creative cocktail called a "Silky" made with rum, basil, centerbe, citrus syrup, lime, and buttermilk. It was so good that I had to have another. The Orange King Salmon gravlax with cultured butter, and cured egg yolk immediately got my attention, and it was as satisfying as it sounded on the menu. My daughter insisted that I get the roast half chicken with linganberries and soft farmers cheese. It was a flavorful and juicy stand out on the menu. I could not pass up the sourdough spatzle, which was rich and balanced, and made perfectly with crème fraîche, peas, grana pandano and herbs. At the end of my meal, I was served a wonderful natural dessert wine that was well paired with the creamy buttermilk Panna cotta with ginger and black currant. How lucky are we to have this gem of a restaurant in Pittsburgh? I could eat this same meal every day of my life!

I went to @fet_fisk when they first opened and then...simply did not act right by not coming back sooner. That one's on me. The red lighting alone feels like it's romanticizing your life choices-dim, moody, a little unhinged in the best way. It's the kind of place where you sit down and immediately feel cooler than you actually are. The food is thoughtful, seafood-forward, and the kind of good that makes you stop talking mid-sentence. The bar? Dangerous in a one more drink won't hurt kind of way. Everything feels intentional without being pretentious, which is rare. This place doesn't yell for attention-it just knows what it is. Fet-Fisk is moody, vibey, and exactly what you need when you want a night that feels a little elevated but still effortless. Consider this me publicly admitting I should've come back sooner.

Great experience from beginning to end. We made reservations for 6pm in the dining room, and our table was ready when we arrived. The decor inside is like you are visiting someone's home. Relaxed, with trinkets and art everywhere. Dark and moody. The service from our server, Gina, was fantastic. She explained the family-style menu and recommended drinks to us (they have non-alcoholic!). We started with the pickled herring, which was smoky and acidic, paired with the most amazing beet puree. The carrots with the maple glaze and oat topping were incredible. Perfect texture with some bite still, and a super caramelized sauce. We ended up eating our fries with the sauce! We also ordered the rainbow trout entree, which was cooked in a garlic sauce with toasted almonds and capers. This was hands down the best thing we ate! The half chicken with lingonberries and farmers cheese was good, but we found it challenging to eat. The spaetzel was super rich and creamy. I would eat it daily if I could. We really, really enjoyed our meal and experience here. I would love to come back.

I've been here twice now. Friends have raved about Fet-Fisk, including my dinner companions on both visits. You definitely need to like fish and salted foods. 3 of us shared a bunch of appetizers, a salad and two mains. My favorite was the trout pate and the marinated button mushrooms.

We had a reservation for dinner at 6pm on a Sunday. When we got there there was already a lone line of people waiting despite the cold. There is a coat check inside and we were led to our table promptly. There's a bar inside along with a lounge area and a dining room with tables. We family styled a bunch of items and each was so flavorful and delicious. This is one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh for sure!!

Finally scored a dinner reservation at Fet-Fisk! The interior was very cozy and the bar area was especially cool. Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed with our seating--we were placed directly next to a window, and it was noticeably cold. We ordered a variety of dishes after our waitress recommended 4-6 plates for two people. The rye focaccia was excellent--very sourdough-forward and served with a homemade balsamic. The pickled mackerel was unlike anything I've had before; the salty fish paired beautifully with the smoked beet sauce and dill. The duchess potatoes were another standout. While the portion was small, the truffle brown butter sauce was easily the best sauce we tried all night. The grilled branzino was fun to eat, and the seaweed butter and breadcrumbs on top were the perfect finishing touch. Our favorite dish, though, was the roasted half chicken--hands down some of the juiciest, most flavorful chicken I've ever had. Next time, we'll definitely be saving room for dessert!

Food was good, indoor dining area was really cozy. Server was kind and attentive. Bill was around $150 for the food and two rounds of drink. You must get the mussels and dip the foccacia in it.

    Ora king salmon gravalax
    Della S.

4 of us came for dinner on a Monday night, sampling various dishes across their menu. We sat in an area that was lit with red lights, so I apologize for the lack of color in my photos! We started with the oysters ($4/each, $44 for a dozen), which were good. The mignonette was fresh and zesty. Great pick for people who love raw oysters, but they had a pretty standard/typical flavor profile that I felt I could find at many other seafood restaurants. Next, we got the ora king salmon gravalax ($18). The salmon was coated with finely shaved butter and egg yolks. The very rich flavor from the butter and egg yolks intensified the richness of the salmon, while the creaminess from the butter balanced out the saltiness. The scallop crudo ($15) arrived shortly after. I'm usually not a big fan of crudo (it's too fruity? or oily?) but this was the best crudo I've had in a while. I really enjoyed the pickled apple-- it had a lot of tartness to it, with only a very subtle fruity taste, and was super crunchy. One of the biggest highlights for me was their pickled mackerel ($13). I was blown away by the smoked beet spread that came with it, which added so much nuance to the pickled fish! I also liked the added crunch from the cabbage. Our server recommended their Monday special, the buttermilk fried chicken (3/$14, 6/$28) to us. The fried chicken was a little hard to eat, because the caviar would roll off while we tried to bite into the chicken. However, I'd highly recommend getting this! The chicken was tender, nicely brined, and the breading was perfectly seasoned. The herbed creme fraiche was also so tasty that we ate it with a spoon at the end. We got an order of their steamed hollander mussels ($19) that came in a creamy but not too rich sauce. Like everything else we tried, this dish was tasty. However, I would also put it under the category of "I can get something similarly good elsewhere." If I was a regular customer here, I could see myself ordering this dish, but in the spirit of trying flavor profiles unique to Fet-Fisk, I would opt for something else. So many of our dishes came with unique sauces and we couldn't wait for the rye focaccia ($8) so that we could use the bread to soak up the sauces. But once I tasted the tomato balsamic that the bread came with, I completely forgot about the other sauces I wanted to dip the bread in. If you're a fan of tomato and garlic, this dip is the best! The raw garlic taste is definitely pungent but adds so much spice and dimension to the tomatoey, vinegary, savory dip. We ended up getting two orders of the focaccia. The final savory dish we got was the rainbow trout fillet ($30). The smoked almond sauce added a very nutty, almost creamy taste to the fish, as well as a lot of crunchy texture that complemented the flaky, tender fillet. I would still say that I had more fun trying the bright, savory, and tangy flavors that the smaller dishes came with, but the trout did feel a lot more substantial and filling. Finally, we rounded out the meal with their panna cotta ($8). The panna cotta was extremely rich and fatty, and the grape sauce on top reminded me of Welch's grape jam in the best way. If I were to come here alone on a Monday night and wanted to treat myself to a nice meal, I'd get their pickled mackerel, buttermilk fried chicken, and rye focaccia.

Fet-Fisk was an absolute hit. The space is gorgeous--warm, intimate, and designed to make you want to linger. I sat in the main dining room, but the bar's moody red glow was seriously tempting. Service was spot-on, especially when it came to guiding portions and wine pairings. The cocktails and wines were thoughtful, but the food is where the restaurant really shines. The steak tartare was easily the best I've had--tender, bright, perfectly seasoned. And the sweet corn panna cotta? Rich yet delicate, with a deep corn flavor that felt both surprising and nostalgic. A standout dinner from start to finish. Highly recommend Fet-Fisk for any occasion.

What is the noise level on a weekday evening?

There are 2 sides, a bar side and a dining room side. I've only sat in the dining room and the noise level was low. I'm not sure about the other side, but I suggest you do the same if that is your concern

We sat outside, which was first come first serve. It took awhile for anyone to approach us but I was in the restaurant industry for some time so I surely realize it happens for many reasons ! My friend ordered two speciality drinks which we were then told they didn't have the ingredients to make those cocktails...Okay - it happens no problem . We then ordered food from the brunch menu ( also out of the first item we asked for , there are only about 6-7 items on that limited menu). We asked if the regular menu would be available that day and we were told "no not on Sunday's." We proceeded to order and consume the hot honey chicken and waffles( good but not much of a hot honey taste and be aware it's BONE IN chicken), French toast with berries ( delicious ), and the shrimp and grits (made to perfection). I ordered the Texas medicine beverage , which was exquisite! (Tequila cocktail, Pictured). We also had the Petal and Pearl , gin and procecco cocktail ,not pictured but very good as well. After we ate, we moved to the bar to grab one last beverage. Again, it took quite some time for someone to approach us, which was odd because many of the girls were making eye contact but walking by us. Finally a gentleman with curly hair came over to take our orders - thank you. We noticed people at the bar were eating wings and food that was not listed on the brunch menu. When I asked how they ordered that, they said the regular menu starts at 3 on Sundays! We were extremely disappointed our original server did not tell us this nor was enlightened that the menu was released at a later time on Sundays. Concerning. It was nice to sit on a roof top in Pittsburgh on a sunny day. They have the atmosphere done with perfection. The food seemed delectable and the beverages done with beautiful presentations. I really hope to give this place another chance and revise my review !
