I stumbled on this place as I was exploring the area after checking in to my bnb. It was a great find! You can buy bottles from the front area and have tastings or buy by the glass by the bar. It's byo food if you want to nosh while you sip. Such friendly and welcoming owners. I don't usually drink Italian wines so Robin introduced me to some new ones and a Chianti I can sip on. I tried the Vignaricco and the Tazzelenghe. Thr latter reminds you of whiskey, my kind of wine. I enjoyed both but I could sit with the Tazzelenghe again. I asked to taste a dry white and Robin suggested the Chardonnay and Friulano. I don't usually drink Chardonnay on its own, always with food, but this was a didifferent Chardonnay. BUT THE STAR! THE STAR WAS THE FRIULANO! I have never heard of this. I could not catch an aroma. It is so clean. This was a wonderful discovery. Thank you, Robin! Spill wine bar is the BEST hidden gem in Broomfield!!!! I walk past here all the time and finally had a chance to go, and I truly had the best time! The owners Jim and his wife are the sweetest people. The business model of Spill is to allow costumers to try as many wines as they please before deciding on a glass of wine- they WANT you to love your selection before purchasing it! We stopped in after dinner in Bloomfield to check out this place. We were super excited to try some direct sourced Italian wines after spending two weeks traveling in Italy earlier this year. What we didn't expect was the lovely woman who worked there sitting down at our table to explain their wines and find the perfect one for us to try. I can guarantee you will have some fun here, and perhaps learn a couple things about Italian wine. The proprietor is enthusiastic and welcoming. You get to taste everything before you buy, and the taste is substantial, and so is the pour. There is a wide selection of Italian wine and will receive a lot of help in deciding, based on your personal preference. I noticed several customers following the BYOF policy, and accepted food delivered from a nearby restaurant. The space is inviting, and the bar itself is custom built. I was meaning to visit this place for a while, but on a random Saturday walk I decided to pop in. (I've been here more than a few times since then) When I first ventured in, I was greeted by an employee who I can only describe as awesome. I've been getting more into wine during the pandemic, and was about to speak to folks about my background, the wines in the store, get suggestions. Just a one stop shop for everything you need. Many of the wines in the shop are sold by companies who have been in the business for a while (some as old as 400 years). I've had about 5 of the wines, and have not been disappointed yet. Love this spot! There is trivia every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month. It does get pretty crowded tho so reservations in advanced at required. We made a reservation the week before and we were a party of 9. They sell wines by the glass, half glass, and bottle here. You can try as many as you'd like before you get glasses or bottles. All the wine here is Italian which is cool. There's a bar for seating as well as tables. They always give you pistachios here for a snack. You can also bring in food from outside as well which is really nice. I love that this place is family owned, the owners are always so nice and welcoming. On regular nights, it's definitely less crowded and has much more of a chill vibe. You can also bring your dog I think. read more

I love this wine shop/wine bar! They carry amazing Italian wines from several different regions of Italy! It is a small space inside, but if you walk through the shelves of wine, there are tables, chairs and a small bar. Wine is served by the glass or the bottle, and the owners are more than willing to let you taste the wines first. You can take your own snacks too which is cool since there are so many food options nearby! The owners, Lauren, and Sam are so knowledgeable and fun to talk to. They make you feel like you are family there. The wines by the glass are reasonably priced, especially for wines that you can't buy anywhere else. The Tazzelenghe (sp?), Taurasi from Danimi and the In & Out from Collefrisio were my favorites! The Taurasi is 100% Aglianico grapes, but the owner Jim explained how they let the grapes dry out in Italy and then crush them. It makes it a super bold and dry wine. I think he told me this wine also comes from volcanic soil. It was fun to learn about and even more fun to taste. ;) If you describe what type of wine you are looking for, they will help you find just the right one! Next time I would like to try a few wines or the rose! They also have free wifi if you want to work on a laptop at one of their tables. It is a comfortable spot and was not loud at all when I went on a weekday. I love that this wine bar is open every day of the week since so many places are closed on Mondays in Pittsburgh. Get there. Now! Walked by tonight and saw Spill was finally open! People are there and enjoying some wine. I'm meeting Hubs for dinner down the street, but I make sure to tell him the fabulous news (and make sure we only have a drink each at dinner). It's after 8:30 and we stop in. The crowd has dispersed, but they were still opened. We learn the unique operations and how they have wine direct from Italian vineyards, so nothing you find in state stores. Jim and Robin, the partners and operators tonight, offered tastings for us to try. It was a great vibe and they are in tune to people's preferences. We're dry red people and the Rosso was perfecto. It's a very chill, neighborhood vibe. We met more people as we're tasting and loved the company and conversation. We walked out at 10:30 PM after a few tastes/glasses and a bottle in hand. They're still figuring out the hours, but was assured they'll be prepared for Little Italy Days! Definitely stop by! It's a gem. For Bloomfielders, the access to wine has much improved! read more

I hate that it took me so long to give SPiLL a try, and despite the recent circumstances, I'm glad I did. Since the liquor stores are closed and only doing limited phone and online offerings I knew it was time to seek out local spots. Walked into SPiLL last week, masks and all, and were greeted by the owners who were so knowledgeable and helpful. The gentleman talked me through all of the different options and made some recommendations based upon my taste. SPiLL has wines from three different vineyards in Italy, all of which are too small to be in state stores - which is even better in my opinion! It took me back to my travels in the Tuscany region of Italy. So far, I've tried 3/4 wines and all have been great. The Collefrissio pinot grigio was my favorite so far. Expect the prices to be slightly higher than the state stores, but well worth it in my eyes. If you buy 6 wine bottles, you'll get a slight discount - 5% if I remember correctly. Can't wait to go back for a proper wine tasting. read more

Finally checked out this wine bar in Bloomfield and it was all I wanted it to be and more! When I walked in, I was greeted by two lovely employees who I later learned to be mother and son. They immediately asked my name and never forgot it the rest of the night, which reminded me how much I love those small things. They explained the concept of SPiLL, in which they serve wine from three different wineries in Italy who do not provide wine to the PA state stores. They were very knowledgeable about their menu and were able to make a great suggestions based on the types of wines I typically enjoy. I love that they will let you taste anything for free. I tried several reds and it was clear they wanted me to be confident in the one I chose. You can purchase by the glass and/or buy bottles to go! The best part was it's BYOF - bring your own food! Whether it be homemade charcuterie board, a pizza you picked up on the way, or just some snacks from your bag, you can enjoy them with your wine! We opted for their recommendation of Thai food right down the street and it was perfect! They have tons of menus of restaurants in the area to make suggestions and even allow you to Grubhub food to the wine bar! A small shop with great personality - it's unfortunate that I was unable to experience the entirety of what this place has to offer. Regardless, the receptionist was knowledgeable, passionate, and took the time to explain all the different kinds of wines available, which was a bit overwhelming. They carry wines from 3 different regions: French grapes from the Alps, grapes from the ashen soil of Sicily, and lastly Montepulciano grapes North of Florence. Of course, he explained the kind of nose and notes you'd get from these grapes. Montepulciano seem to have a bit more tannin whereas the grapes from Sicily may have more of an earthy/ashen palate. We were told that during normal times that they have a "bring your own food " (BYOF) and generous wine tasting to guarantee that you select the right wine for you. I got almost zero pretentious vibes from this guy (huge plus!). It's great that he seems genuinely interested in wine and what matches your preferences. I hope to come back and try out this BYOF once they offer this service. read more

My friend and I decided to try something different on a random night. We popped by at about 6 or 7pm on a weeknight and were told to sit wherever we would like. Our server (is it a server?) came over and explained the menu. Since the wines are from italy, we truly had no idea what we were ordering. He was incredibly knowledgeable and allowed us to sample as many different kinds until we found a glass that we liked- I actually ended up buying a bottle because we were able to explore so many different ones! The sample pours are fairly decent, which is a bonus too It is an intimate setting. They do not have their own kitchen, but they provided pistachios to snack on and allow you to BYO-food as well. The man has done the work traveling through Europe / Italy to select the best wines, and he's got a fantastic palate. This place allows you to bring whatever foods you'd like to pair their wine with!! It was a nice quiet spot for a date or they seem like they'd be able to accommodate large groups. They first asked what kind of wines I enjoyed and suggested some tasting suggestions from there. Based on my comments from the wine sample, they suggested another wine to try. The wines come from 3-4 different wineries in Italy and are almost all dry. I tried all reds and after 3 samples, I settled on a glass. Glasses range from $9-$15 and the pours are pretty heavy. The owner listens to your tastes and preferences and will guide you to something she thinks you will enjoy, working with you to find something that you'll love. They typically (and very generously) bring samples (which by themselves are substantial pours) of the suggestions they make in order to ensure you find a wine suitable to your palate. They source their wines from a vineyard in Italy (I unfortunately cannot remember the name!) They also offer complimentary pistachios, and allow guests to bring in outside food. I'll be honest, I don't know much about wine and can't attest to the finer points of wine culture and consumption, but I've enjoyed every single glass I've had here and am charmed by the unpretentious, next-door-neighbor vibe of this place. I've been here a few times now, and it's one of my favorite bars in the city, all due to the awesome owner. 5/5, I'll be coming back here as long as I live in Pittsburgh. read more

I have tried a variety of the wines they carry, and feel like you can't go wrong with the selection they have. It's BYOF (bring your own food!) so you can order off of DoorDash or walk down the block to grab a slice from Angelo's to pair with your wine. My friends and I have ordered pizza as well as brought in Thai before. If you don't want food but want to munch on something while you're sipping, they have pistachios out for the taking! I just moved to Bloomfield Lofts and decided to visit Spill on my first full day in my new neighborhood. Jim, one of the owners, was incredibly kind to spend nearly 90 minutes with me, telling me about the wines in the shop and doing a tasting for me. I'm basically a red wine gal and, with lots of practice over the years, have come to know a bit about Italian reds. But I wanted to know more about Italian whites. And so that's where we started. I was heading over to West Penn hospital to help celebrate my friends newborn. All the florists were closed for the evening so I didn't want to come empty handed. Saw Spill across the street so figured a bottle of wine would make for a nice gift. Had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised when I walked in and met Jim and Robin. I was able to sample several wines and pick just the right one for my friends. This is a social experience, not a transactional store. They are knowledgeable and passionate about the wineries they work with and make the tasting and purchasing of wine memorable. It was so pleasant that after I met my friends at the hospital I brought them back to Spill to share the experience. We ended up sharing laughs and stories with the owners and a great evening.
