It's weird to review a place I haven't visited in person. But Space Bar took some of their staff to the 2026 World Science Fiction Convention in Anaheim, and hosted a party in the convention hotel (on August 28). The staff they had at the convention were all super-cool people. They served great drinks. I haven't seen their drink menu, so I just said a few words about what I like, and they mixed up good stuff -- at reduced alcohol per my request. Perfect! Best of all, they had the acclaimed science fiction and fantasy author Mary Robinette Kowal as their special guest. (But she lives in North Carolina, so don't expect her as a regular in the Pittsburgh location.) Space Bar is obviously LGBT+ friendly, but it's an everyone bar. OK, maybe not everyone: it will be more fun if you're interested in science fiction and fantasy, and don't upset the vibe. I'll be sure to visit the in-person location next time I'm in Pittsburgh. read more

Loved this bar--the space-themed atmosphere, great energy, and kind staff. Funny enough, while we were getting coffee earlier that morning, one of the bartenders invited us to stop by later, not knowing it was already on our post-dinner itinerary. The cocktails were creative, playful, and impressively strong without sacrificing quality. I had the Seoular Flare, which had a noticeable kick but was still very drinkable. It came with BBQ chips, and when our bartender--the same guy from that morning--noticed how much I loved them, he brought me extra. Such a thoughtful touch. The rest of our drinks were equally inventive and well-crafted. I admittedly had some doubts about whether the creativity would translate into cocktails that actually tasted good, but they completely proved me wrong. We had the nicest time here to take a break from the humidity with picklesburgh. Their cocktails are all specialty and the couple we tried together were tasty. Love the atmosphere, nice staff and seating very comfortable. Would def come back! We had a nice time at Space Bar. The bar is super cool and has a fun atmosphere. The servers were great and stayed in the "outer space" persona. We got the Final Frontier Old Fashioned and the Kiwi Nova. Both were very good and had delicious flavor profiles. The main reason I gave it 4-stars was I think it was a one and done for us. Though the place was nice and the drinks were good, we weren't feeling the need to go back again. We did the gimmick and felt like we were good to go. read more

We I finally made it here after trying to go for a while and just letting time get away from us. We made reservations for two and went on a Friday night. When we walked in, the host greeted us right away, asked for our name, and seated us pretty quickly. There were actually a good amount of open seats, so I am not sure reservations were completely necessary, but it was still nice to have one. I honestly expected the inside to feel more extravagant and space themed, almost like an outer space vibe with more visual elements and atmosphere. I was hoping for something more immersive and futuristic. It was still cool overall, just not quite as visually dramatic as I imagined. We ordered an espresso martini and the Kiwi Nova. I really enjoyed my drink, especially after talking with the host who explained that they use scientific processes for their cocktails along with fresh purées and fresh ingredients. That is something I really appreciate because I am not a fan of drinks made with a lot of simple syrup or fake additives. He loved his espresso martini and said it was one of the best he has had. My drink was definitely on the sweeter side and I feel like too much of it might lead to a hangover, but it was still really good. Our server was attentive at first, but later on we ended up waiting a while to order another round. After sitting for a bit, we decided to order through the hostess instead and she got us taken care of right away. Overall, it was a cool experience mainly for the drinks. The cocktails were definitely the highlight. Service was okay, and I am not sure if we will return, but I am glad we finally got to check it out. read more

This place was cool, but it was way smaller and more tame than I expected. with how much it's hyped up I was expecting more. The drinks were good and they were cool, but I didn't think the flavor profile for the one I had really matched the super detailed description. I had the rainbow road, and it definitely just gave chocolate no other flavors pulled through. (And Im not an Emile Im a Remy, I taste everything). I really loved that they put a lot of thought into crafting the cocktails, but i felt very let down by the one I got. We also got sat in a really awkward spot of the bar, which made it hard to really enjoy the experience (we got sat at tiny 3 seat near the door) Other than that the service was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. I just...if Im in the mood to try something cool and crazy, I want it to be hype, not super chill, low music, tiny space, i would have went on a weekday instead. I am not what you would call a bar person. I haven't really been into the bar scene since just after I turned 21, which was over 20 years ago. However, I have been to this spot several times now since discovering them at a recent mocktail event. There I learned that they not only have a whole bunch of fun, space themed cocktails with special effects like dry ice, they have a dedicated nonalcoholic menu as well with a bunch of NA options. I stopped drinking alcohol earlier this year due to a brain injury and the inclusivity of this brings me so much joy. The space is a really cool lounge vibe. Groups of people from across the age spectrum seem to come here. There are lounge tables that can seat several people, high tops that seat two and a bar. The staff, from host to servers to the owner who is hands-on and frequently stop by to chat, are all so incredibly nice and welcoming. I have yet to have a drink that disappointed me. From the NA menu, the Tartooine Sour is the star but you can't go wrong. read more

I was looking for a unique bar and I found it! This place was super fun. It was pretty empty but it was a Wednesday so that's to be expected. They had a lot of interesting drinks. I got the 'Kiwi Nova' and my husband got the 'Darth Vapor'. It smoked and it was really cool. He really enjoyed that drink and I really enjoyed mine. It wouldn't be winter without a trip to my favorite out of this world bar. This year's seasonal pop-up theme "Snowglobe" changed the bar into a winter wonderland. The bartenders are masterfully skilled in the art of gastronomy. My wife and I tried their two seasonal drinks, the Spiced Pearseus and Nebula Noir. Highly recommend both!!! Nebula provided earthiness with the smooth finish of the Angel's Envy (a terrific bourbon in itself). The Pearseus had a wonderful natural pear flavor with the bright citrus complemented by the sweet orange, black tea and vanilla foam topper. I may miss their amazing New Years celebration, but every time I'm there, Space Bar always transports me in time and space. read more

Space Bar is a spaced-themed molecular-mixology bar that serves a rotating selection of alcoholic beverages (e.g., cocktails, beers, wines, ciders, and liquors), non-alcoholic beverages (e.g., cocktails, beers, and sodas), and some foods (e.g., snack mix, chips and salsa, and cheeses). Please see my attached photos for the menu in February 2025. My husband and I visited this bar one time. We had no reservation, but you can make one. The owner met us at the front door, seated us at a comfortable table, and made friendly conversation when she later checked in with us. The space-themed interior design created an "out of this world" atmosphere. We ordered two drinks through our phone, and minutes later our server brought the drinks to us. Later she brought our bill to us for payment. The Skywatcher drink cost $15, and it consisted of Haku vodka, Giffard strawberry, yogurt soju, hibiscus cordial, lime, tea, and strawberry popping boba. It came with one piece of Hi-Chew candy. I enjoyed the fruity flavors. The Starship cost $16, and it contained gin, lime, pomelo, grapefruit, lemon, orange, hibiscus, dandelion root, gentian root, lemongrass, rosemary, cardamon, allspice, clove, and cinchona bark. This place makes fantastic and inventive cocktails. We were in Pittsburgh as part of our road trip to visit a bunch of baseball parks and stop by this place before the game. They make a version of the pan galactic gargle blaster for two. Very good. We stopped by after the game and had an espresso martini, and my wife had the Negroni. Our bartender Connor was very engaging and super knowledgeable. The scene here is that you've entered a spaceship on a cruise. All of the cocktail tables have pictures of astronomical phenomena on them, think nebula and black holes. I spoke with the owner and she said pretty much everything in the place was handmade by her and her friends. I don't know if this is true for all the cocktails but both cocktails that we had with foam used a vegan filling agent. I certainly couldn't tell the difference. So definitely vegan friendly. No food to speak of just bar snacks. We have another night in Pittsburgh and we might stop by again. Highly recommended read more

Funky little stop for drinks. The titles are cute puns and the bartender greeted us asking to see "Human Identification" cute. He also volunteered to make drinks to accommodate any variations we were interested in. Impressed with the effect of the dry ice. A little more pricey for cocktails but something different for sure. My BFF and I spent a long weekend in Pittsburgh while coming to town for a concert. Space Bar was a short walk from our hotel and it was such a delight! The cocktails are all very interactive (whether it's glassware, dry ice, changeable lights, smoke, etc) and oh-so tasty! We had 2 rounds here before walking to a nearby spot for dinner. For my first drink I ordered the Li Shen's Bazaar Pho and it came out like a little miso soup which was so fun. It tasted slightly savory, but was nice and cold and had a basil/cilantro jelly snack that was incredibly refreshing. My friend ordered the Radio Galaxy as her first beverage- it was served in such a cool glass and had a very delicious whipped cream topping. For our second round I decided to stick with gin and got the Tart-ooine Sour that came with a changeable light underneath the glass (the neon, slime green was my favorite out of the colors, so I kept it that way) and it was so good I had to stop myself from drinking it too fast. My friend got The Fifth Ele-mint as her second drink and the cucumber and mint made it so invigorating. It was a little spectacle to behold with the dry ice bubbling out underneath the glass. We sat at the bar while we were there and both bartenders working were friendly, kind, and not pushy about ordering. They asked if we had ever been in before and explained the menu/the preparation behind the drinks to us before ordering. It is a really cool spot in downtown Pittsburgh that has a lot of other great spots within walking distance, so you can pop in for one or 2 drinks along the way to or from somewhere else. The Space Bar is great in concept, but in reality it's a concept that lacks complete execution. As soon as you enter the door you are transported into space and greeted by a creative list of themed drinks. You are also hit with the first opportunity for improvement, gravity. We all know there is no gravity in space, but there is gravity in Space Bar. Bummer! You then quickly realize that Space Bar has oxygen, yet space does not. Get on it! Obvious opportunity for add on sales! Space Bar has a great music selection. Unfortunately, space is an almost perfect vacuum of sound. So to really capture space, the owners should really make the location soundproof. Drinks in glasses? How about Capri Sun like packages like astronauts use? The owners should have waiters and waitresses dress as space robots, much like Lost in Space. I know cost can be an option, but a cardboard box, some aluminum foil and some Christmas lights can go a long way. So fresh and crisp, great summer cocktail for sure. The Kaiju Negroni was my second drink. Amazing coconut flavor and unlike anything I've had before. My final drink was the Fifth Ele-mint. Cucumber and mint, sign me up. Not only are the drinks intriguing and beautiful, the staff is ready to talk about them and why they use certain techniques to achieve certain results. They have a great bar team. Passion, attention to detail, and friendliness/welcoming vibe go a long way and is often overlooked because it's not measurable by numbers. Fun! Their cocktails were so far above my expectations. They make most things in house like syrups, infused vodka and tequila, and purées. Everything tasted very fresh and drinks were well balanced. Hand crafted drinks run upwards of $15 but in my opinion, are with it. Service from Eva was top notch. I was a little worried from the concept of a space-themed bar that this place was going to be a bit too kitschy, or that they would serve overly sweet cocktails, but they have surprisingly good and unique cocktails. It's located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh right by Market Square. When you walk in, you immediately feel "transported" into space and the hostess welcomes you in. The ambiance and decor certainly fits into the theme, lights that look like moons, etc. We sat at the bar and took a look at the menu, noticing that their cocktails were helpfully organized into different categories. I started with the Tart-ooine Sour. It comes in a glass that comes lit up with a green light. It was easy to drink and smooth, but it honestly didn't blow my mind. My boyfriend's cocktail was The Fifth Ele-mint which had quite the presentation since it's served over dry ice. We both felt it had more of a cucumber flavor than a mint flavor as the name implies. We were about to finish up, but since the menu looked so interesting, we decided to order one more drink. We got the Kali Chile cocktail, one that stood out to me from the start - ingredients like green chile vodka, kalamansi, banana, orange, coconut milk. It also had a fun presentation and was served in an astronaut glass. I really loved this drink! I thought the flavor was very unique since it had a hint of spice but was also fruity, and it overall tasted delicious. Next time, I'm curious to try more of their experimental cocktails like Lil Shen's Bazaar Pho, something that has the flavor profile of pho... intriguing! I've been to Space Bar a handful of times. Overall, I can count on the drinks being innovative and fun. Pittsburgh is really lacking true craft cocktail lounges in my opinion and I feel that Space has earned a spot on the craft list in PGH. The staff has always been willing to explain any ingredient I've asked about. My last visit I ordered the Yoda's Tea and I was blown away by the flavors, complexity, and presentation. Sometimes the drinks here while they are delicious, lack booze for the price. That was not the case with this experimental cocktail. It truly was a one of a kind experience! read more
