There are some places you try once and move on from...and then there are the ones you keep thinking about years later. I first fell in love with @cucinavitalepgh back when they were in the South Side, so seeing them open this new space honestly made me so happy. The new location is beautiful, has SO much more room, and still somehow keeps that same feeling that made people love the original in the first place. Also can we talk about the fact every single dish came out literally steaming hot? Not lukewarm 10 minutes in the window hot...actual fresh out of the pan, too impatient to wait before taking a bite hot. I notice little things like that and it makes such a difference. You can tell there's care behind it. One of those spots that reminds you why classic Italian food will always hit. read more

I've heard fantastic reviews of this spot from friends so when they were on the vegan restaurant week list, I was excited to give them a try. Kudos to the chef for trying something different with these specialty vegan dishes! The restaurant is tucked away in Foster Plaza among office buildings and I would have never expected to find it there. They have good signage as you wind up the plaza so you know you're on the right track. The restaurant itself is very attractive, Clean, upscale look with white fairy lights. This is a white tablecloth place and would be appropriate for a special occasion as well as a nice any occasion meal. I ordered the full vegan restaurant week special which included a vegan meatball appetizer, pappardelle Bolognese made with red lentils and their freshly made pasta, and dessert which was two black bean brownies with frosting. The marinara on the meatballs was delicious and I would order the marinara here on anything. The meatballs were the size of tennis balls or larger. Great texture and I was only able to eat one if I wanted to eat the rest of my meal. The pasta dish was enormous and I could only eat half of that as well. I was really impressed with the texture and flavors of the lentil Bolognese. They also brought a cup of vegan vegetable soup which wasn't mentioned on the vegan week menu but was absolutely delicious. The brownies probably surprised me most. I couldn't believe these were made from black beans. I took home one of the two and with everything else I had packed up, had an entire repeat of the meal the next day. Very big portions especially if you get a Pasta. My mom ordered cheese ravioli with regular Bolognese sauce and the ravioli was delicious, although not enough for a full second meal like the regular pastas. I also want to mention that they had a couple of mocktails on their menu and I appreciated them being inclusive. I ordered a mocktail mule with ginger beer and raspberry purée which exceeded my expectations. The raspberry purée was really good. You will pay $30-$35 or so for a nice meal here, more if you start getting into some of the meat entrees. I thought that was a fair price for the quality. I will definitely be back. read more

We sat at the bar without reservations to watch the derby. Very pleasant atmosphere and great service from our bartender. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures but the food was delicious. We ordered the zucchini and a Cesar salad anchovies on the side to start with. We asked for the zucchini well done and it was! Lightly fried and dusted with parsley. Salad was shared and enough for both of us. Loved the dressing. Lastly, we enjoyed the ravioli with bolognese sauce. I'm used to my mom's homemade version but this was a very close second! Had great appetizers of which included greens & beans (they forgot to add sausage), meatballs, and zucchini I ordered the Fruiti Di Mare, wasn't happy with it and wouldn't order again. The white clam sauce tasted more like Alfredo sauce from a jar. Also, no more BYOB! read more

First time here and it was so good , right from the beginning our shrimp and calamari app was awesome, we couldn't stop saying how good it was while we were eating it and the filet melted in our mouths with a great Demi glaze ! So I have eaten there in the past it was march of 2025 to be exact. I was so looking forward to a good meal. My friend and I sat for dinner and it definitely declined since I was last there. She ordered a seafood plate described as mussels, shrimp and scallops it came with no mussels when asked they said it doesn't come with mussels I said look at the menu and sure enough menu says mussels. Then my steak tasted like well honestly it was char broiled but I swear I tasted lighter fluid with every bite. The cheesecake was supposed to be lemon mascarpone but I tasted No lemon at all. Went to the new location for the first time The decor was contemporary and pleasant to be in. The food was delicious and service was very attentive. I ordered the spots and the other people in my party ordered more traditional Italian food. We all agreed the meals were great and would definitely come back. We followed a favorite server, Jeff, to the newly opened Cucina Vitale, from the recently closed Cioppino . The new restaurant is an attractively remodeled Greentree location. The menu is traditional Italian, with multiple appetizers, salads, meat and fish entrees, and pasta and risotto options. There is a wine list that is extremely sparse. We brought our own wine and ordered pappardelle with bolognese sauce. The sauce was good but the pasta was severely overcooked. The pasta came with a tasty salad with a choice of cheese. There's a fee bread service, with a very generous quantity of bread. I bread itself was quite disappointing, but the two dipping sauces were excellent. An extremely unusual feature of the menu is the unavailability of pasta as a side dish (except with chicken/veal Parmesan), instead matching all entrees with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Customers obviously request a side of pasta, since there's an all-caps warning on the menu to not ask for pasta. It's a menu staple in fine-dining Italian restaurants - Rico's, Tambellini, and Allá Famillia offer multiple pasta dishes as sides, and they do not serve mashed potatoes at all. So, if you want a pasta side, DON'T ASK, go somewhere else. read more

I just wish I could give this place four or five stars. I ordered the ravioli, it was 26.00. I really just laughed when the girl sat my plate down & I seen 5 very small raviolis on my plate. Look I know the price & I am ok to pay that but I couldn't believe the portion size. The bread is really horrible for a fine dining restaurant. It reminded me of the Italian bread I can buy at shop n save. Drink prices were pretty good, no complaints there. Zucchini was wonderful & tasty. read more

Amazing Italian Restaurant.  Recently relocated to Greentree, their new space is adorable and huge! They have a banquet space, a bar and a full dining room. They are BYOB but also have a bar! Perfect spot for a date night, catching up with some friends or celebrating a special occasion.  Large food portions, so be sure to arrive hungry.  Went with two friends for a girls' night dinner and it was the perfect evening- wine & delicious food. Tried so many things- and everything was amazing! For appetizers- we had the mozzarella pomodoro which is house made mozzarella with a fresh pomodoro tomato sauce, the crab cake which is jumbo lump crabmeat, red pepper, fresh herbs and a roasted corn aioli, finally tried their stuffed banana peppers which were banana peppers stuffed with Ricci hot sausage, marinara sauce and mozzarella. WOW WOW WOW! For dinner we had- chicken Marsala which is chargrilled chicken with mushrooms, Marsala wine & Demi, it comes with the seasonal veggie and potatoes. We also had the wild mushroom risotto which was Arborio, cremini, shiitake, black truffle, pecorino and truffle oil. And finally the ravioli of the day which was a chargrilled chicken with ravioli with spinach and black truffle. Each entree comes with a soup or salad! From the beginning...bread was lousy and did not pair well with dipping oil and red pepper hummus. Zucchini was bland and overcooked. My husband's pappardelle were cooked to mushrooms and had enough sauce to serve 3 people...not good. My linguine and peppers were very al dente...questionably homemade! The veal was fair. We were looking forward to dessert but by then were toooooo disappointed in the whole experience! The server was pleasant but it took almost two hours for a 2 course meal. We used a gift card...which of course should be treated as cash and were still charged a c/c total...just a few dollars more..but even still. We were so excited to try cucina Vitale since it's 2 minutes away from home...but we'll have to drive a little further to someplace better. read more

Bartender was great as always. Food is another story. My mom loves the crab cakes, zucchini and your seafood bisque. Your sausages dishes have been a miss for me. Today a sausage and peppers. I'm looking for some nice sausage links and peppers served over polenta or something. I got a bull of? What the hell was that? I don't know what to call it. The 1st time it was the stuffed hot peppers. One pepper with a stuffing the other with a sausage link stuffed in it. I enjoy the link one better. This lunch that I took my 84 year old mom cost me $71.00 I'm really hard for me to think that I'll be back again. read more

Very nice, fancy Italian restaurant in Greentree! Everything was fantastic. The ambiance, the server and staff, and the food! Yes, it's a little pricey, but the food is excellent and the menu offers a nice variety of Italian dinners. We tried a house made ravioli dish, a chicken dish, and a veal dish. We were in town for a baseball game, and were looking for a restaurant close to the Doubletree hotel. We arrived without reservations, but the hostesses were so kind and friendly and found a table for us during a busy dinner period. Our waiter Matthew was so helpful and provided outstanding service. We met the owner who made rounds throughout the restaurant. Great selection of wine and beer. Our entrees were delicious. We ordered the pappardelle with bolognese sauce, eggplant parm, and chicken parm. All cooked to perfection. Our desserts were tasty too. We would definitely return. read more

Ate at Cucina Vitale tonight and GOT GLUTENED! If you have ANY FOOD ALLERGIES, BEWARE. We had a party of 4, one gluten intolerant, one celiac with a dairy allergy and two no dietary restrictions. With each course, the runner was thoroughly confused as to which items were gluten-free and which ones were not. When we questioned whether we got the appropriate meals, she became very angry and snotty. She tried to tell us that the risotto was dairy free because they did not put cheese in it. She proceeded to take the plate away and within two minutes, our waitress returned with a plate with the veal and vegetable only. Again, we questioned if it was gluten free and the quickness of it being remade and were told that it just came out of the pan. Upon inspection, we realized that it had been dredged in flour. We asked our server to have the manager come over as we were not comfortable eating the food that so obviously had gluten in it. As three of the four of us ate, we waited quite a while for the manager to come over. He listened to what we had to say and had the dish remade, supposedly gluten-free and dairy free. Without a doubt there was gluten in the food. Took just a few hours and severe pain to confirm it They comped our entire meal, but no amount of money is worth days of agonizing pain and feeling like you just swallowed glass. This restaurant has gotten many good reviews for the gluten-free, but if you are celiac, be extremely cautious. They take no care in marking or identifying the gluten-free items for the runner and it doesn't seem that the kitchen takes gluten allergies seriously. read more

My husband and I dined here for our 45th anniversary and the experience was a delight. All of our food, our appetizer, our main courses to our dessert were all excellent. Our server was so attentive, funny, he was just plain charming. Since we arrived at an odd time, very late lunch and very early dinner, they gave us their lunch, early bird and dinner menus to pick from. The dining room was meticulous and the tables are spaced far enough apart to have privacy when dining. I've already told my husband that that's where I want to go for my birthday dinner. read more

The food continues to be great. The service was more formal but is good for a large scale restaurant. I miss the old location and its spirit. It feels upscale and very much like a good suburban restaurant. I miss the funky, urban vibe of the old location. It always felt so personal and warming. I understand the business reasons for the big move, but it makes having the great food a little less fun. The sauces are delicious. My favorite appetizer the shrimp and calamari is always memorable and I crave it. I always intend to get something else but I can't resist. The pastas are top quality and my pappardelle with bolognese was delicious. Two places of disappointment were the wine prices or the corkage fee, both are steep, and the bread. The bread which I always enjoyed previosly was just not enjoyable. It was dry, maybe stale, and receiving a basket of a few thin dry small half slices, including an end that should have been given to the birds was not a good start to our meal. read more

Cucina Vitale was absolutely incredible for our rehearsal dinner! The staff were so attentive to us and we had 25-30 people!! The food was absolutely incredible! They were able to accommodate allergies seamlessly (we had 2 gluten-free guests). They had several choices of decorations and lights to pick from today incorporate our wedding day colors and we were even able to play a PowerPoint presentation of pictures! It was an amazing night!! I had heard good things about this place but wasn't very impressed, overall. It wasn't extremely busy, thank goodness, because we had a table of 7 ladies and the service seemed somewhat slow already. The 'fresh' bread they brought out was literally crunchy and hard. I think two pieces in the whole basket (one for the table of 7) were soft. The oil and hummus were never replenished for the bread either. That was definitely a bad start to the meal. The ambiance was just so so. Nothing great but nothing horrible. Everyone seemed to like their meals and some had dessert as well. Very strange thing: they don't allow a pasta substitute with their veal and chicken dishes. That is my preference for Marsala and Piccata so I just didn't go for those. My meal was good but definitely over sauced with the spinach/sundried tomatoes and olive oil. Those ingredients seemed to be a 'staple' in many dishes including the sea bass special. The linguine was good - could tell it was homemade. For a pasta dish, one drink and one glass of wine (& some hard bread) my total was $60! I do not think it was worth it for sure. After tip, for ONR person we are talking nearly $75! Ordered drinks and the zucchini appetizer which was nice and light but then it took an hour to get salads. Entrees came with glutinous mashed potatoes and large chunks of undercooked carrots. Where do I start??? From the handsome built gentleman that was the doorman ( awesome suit) to the sweet girls that sat me down at my table. Immediately made me feel comfortable. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE was so nice! There's a reason this place gets the business and respect that they do. They care! You can taste it in the food, the presentation, the quality! I didn't get all the pictures I was living in the moment but, I also got the meatball & hot sausage stuffed peppers!!! Those meatballs as soon as you cut them in half they literally melt in your mouth. I'm guessing from the veal being soaked in the milk make them so moist! Definitely a 10/10 the hot stuffed peppers were amazing every bite was perfect amount of sausage with peppers loved them! For my entree I got Veal Parmesan and black truffle mushroom risotto the veal was so tender It was so so good but that mushroom risotto blew me away the flavors were indescribable! For dessert a pecan ball with fresh homemade gelato and of course tiramisu both unbelievable!!! I highly recommend Cucina Vitale Make sure you call ahead of time for reservations I promise you it is more than worth it!!! One of my favorite restaurants was Cucina Vitale on the South Side. The small restaurant there had good food and a nice staff. Within the past year, I relocated to SC, and hadn't been back to Pittsburgh in about a year. This past weekend I came back to visit and was excited to hear that Cucina Vitale opened in a new and larger location in Greentree. I made reservations for Saturday night. To say I was extremely disappointed in the food and the way I was treated is an understatement. The dish I always ordered at the South Side location was completely different at the Greentree location. That's understandable as I'm sure many things have changed with their relocation to Greentree. Since I wasn't happy with what I ordered, I asked the waiter to box it up for me so my husband could eat it at some point. I told the waiter that I would pay for that order, but would like to order and pay for something different. I ordered a pasta dish with crab. When it came out, I didn't see any crab in it with the exception of two small shredded pieces. I asked my husband if he saw any crab in it. I pushed the pasta around on my plate and neither of us could see any crab meat. I brought the waiter over and he said he would take it back to the chef to add more to it. He came back rather embarrassed and said the chef got a spoon and put it in my pasta and spread out the noodles. He pointed out to our waiter the places where he saw crab meat. He basically sent it back as it was after he had spooned through my food. I've never had that happen at any restaurant anywhere. The waiter, who was excellent, said he would see what he could do to get us one piece of cake since we weren't having a very good experience. He came back and said he was told by the owner that they don't give away anything for free. Sadly, a place that was one of our favorites, and one that we recommended to countless numbers of people, has changed considerably with the relocation to Greentree. The food value was far below expectations, but the arrogance of the chef and owner was something we haven't encountered before. read more

Moved to new location ; rather unusual in a big office complex off the beaten path but beautifully designed and larger space is quite nice. Great menu nut no sides of pasta which is very unusual for an Italian restaurant . The pasta side only came with veal or chicken parm. The mashed potatoes need to go; they had no taste and ruined the meal. The side of vegetables had some Brussels sprouts and something else not sure what but they were overcooked and mushy. Te chicken Milanese was delicious and had lump crabmeat, grapes and almonds ; nice chance for a plain chicken dish. Others is the party had veal parm and pasta and we're pleased with the choice. My husband had veal Marsala which was very tasty and had lots of mushrooms but again the mashed potatoes ruined the meal. Prices were less than $100 for two and that included beer and wine. I defy would go back but chose something different. Maybe they will change their menu since reading some of the reviews. If you want pasta side go to Bellaserios, Tambelinis or RICOS. read more
