Friday dinner here while in town for the weekend. I had originally made a reservation for 10 just in case the baseball game ran over, but received a call that earlier times had opened up. We moved the reservation to 9 and came there shortly before. To start, we ordered the bread and whipped ricotta, as well as the brussel sprouts. The bread was massive and the whipped ricotta was a nice touch. The brussel sprouts were also good - served with a sweet glaze and thick cubed pork belly. For my entree I ordered the gnocchi and meatballs which was incredibly large. The gnocchi were the size of rectangular pillowed donut holes. They almost were the same size as the meatballs. The sauce was also nicely seasoned and had a good flavor. I also added a half size of the cacio e Pepe. Easily one of the top 5 places I have had this dish. The sauce was perfectly flavored with pepper, plenty of sauce so it didn't stick to the pasta and become just a clumped mess - and the right size. For dessert I ordered the berry brown butter pastry. This was a perfect size and packed great flavor. Multi-leveled but still bright while being rich. I liked this place - can be loud, but they also have outdoor seating. My only wish would be that you could order pizza from Davide which is attached to the back of this location.

Located near The Strip and only a half block from the bus stop. Lovely two story with dining areas on both levels. Beautifully decorated to look like you are eating in Italy. Friendly servers. Nice wine selection with very decent prices. They give you fresh bread and a small plate of olive oil with balsamic drizzle to dip the bread. That was delicious. Would have been five stars except my Stuffed Shells were served slightly warm ish. But they tasted good. Would have been fabulous if it was served hot and fresh. Their homemade meatballs are good but a little too dense. We ordered a glass of Super Tuscan and a glass of Cab Sav. The Cab Sav was delicious. Ended the meal with tiramisu for my birthday. I enjoyed every bite. We hear this place has good lunch. We will be back to try that menu. * 8 photos

We came as a group of ten to celebrate Mother's Day for my wife, Mother-in-law, and Sister-in-law. There is both a downstairs and an upstairs as seating areas. The place has a clean Italian look. We started out with bread and oil, greens and beans, asparagus. For meals we all ordered some type of pasta. You can't miss on any of the pasta dishes. I along with others, had gnocchi. Others had spaghetti, shrimp scampi, and lasagna. The service was really good. Mila and her team did a great job taking care of us.

Absolutely stellar experience and time at DiAnoia's Eatery. Wonderful service, delicious food and drinks, every single course, and just an overall great environment. The cocktails were expertly crafted, the food was delicious, and the desserts were wonderful too. There are so many dishes I'd like to try. I'll be back.

We scored the last table here at 6 o'clock on a week night after an early show at the Pittsburgh Winery. Many different menu items and drinks sound good, but we ended on the winter vegetable carpaccio (pretty to look at and tastes good), gnocchi and meatballs (both are huge), and white beans and hot sausage (salty). The focaccia in oil was yummy. I liked my Elisir di Mora cocktail, but hubby said his vanilla grapefruit Italian soda was better before all the ice in it melted. Staff are nice. It's loud inside, but when it's nice there are tables outside. $100 including tip for two people. We didn't get dessert and had leftovers.

This place is so cool looking and much bigger than I realized from the outside. We showed up early Saturday evening and they seated the four of us upstairs. It was so nice. Theres even a cute little balcony overlooking the downstairs and Im a sucker for theming. Our server was very helpful creating a vegan dish for my husband but alas the creamy mushroom sauce won him over. I tasted it. It was amazing! The kids menus came with crayons and a very nice create your own pasta for kids with seasonal veggies. The kids cookies looked huge and delicious too as an add on. The free bread service was nice but I think we saw the paid upgrade version and it looked amazing. So if we ever go with a bigger party we will definitely be doing that. It is a bit pricey so dinner there is definitely a nice treat and not a weekly thing for us My only note is that I wish there was a salad with the entree.

Always incredible. The Bianca Ragu was so good, it was like comfort food. My mom had the gnocchi and loved it. There was a small error with our entrees, but our server was wonderful and quickly corrected it. It can be hard to get a reservation at a normal dinner time, but it's so worth it!

The sandwiches were amazing. We ordered the Italiano and the Prosciutto, and both were heavily loaded with meats. The flavors were incredible. We were mostly quiet while eating because it was that good. I also loved their decaf iced latte. As for service, the cashier and food runners were friendly and brought our meals directly to the table. There are plenty of indoor tables, and the noise level is comfortable. This spot is in the Strip District, so parking can be tricky and hard to find. But we got lucky and found parking about a block away. The key is to come early, around the time when most people are still getting up.

I came for lunch this past Saturday and wanted to update my review as the ordering process was different since my last review. For lunch, you order your food at the counter. You are provided a number and take a seat wherever you'd like. Shortly after I received my drink (prosecco) and food. I ordered the eggplant parm sandwich. It was so good and wasn't heavy like most eggplant parm sandwiches are. I ate every last bite! The restaurant was moderately busy but we didn't have a problem finding a seat or getting our food in a timely manner. I will definitely be back!

My fiancé and I had had a date night at DiAnoias recently, it was our first time there! We went on a Thursday night. I made the reservation a month ahead of time, and the only time slots available were after 8 pm. I knew it was popular but I wasn't expecting that! We don't usually eat that late, but it was well worth it. The service was great, and everything came out fast and it was all super fresh! What we got: Gnocchi Pumpkin Bowl - I had been wanting to try this for years, and it was everything I'd dreamed it would be! It was rich and creamy, the pumpkin flavor in the sauce wasn't overpowering, and it was so cheesy! Simply incredible! Gnocchi & Meatballs - my fiancé's dish. Gnocchi is his fav pasta and he loved this! We loved how big the gnocchi is here. -Also I got 1 meatball on the side of my dish bc it sounded so good and it was amazing! Roasted cauliflower with pesto - the only way I want to eat cauliflower from now on! This was perfect (we were also in desperate need of some veggies lol) complimentary bread - fresh and tasty! We could've had 3 plates of that alone Rose Spritz - light and refreshing, just what I needed It was such a satisfying meal and the leftovers were just as good the next day. I can't wait to try more of the menu!

One of my favorite seasonal dishes in Pittsburgh is the gnocchi pumpkin bowl at DiAnoia's so much so that I made a reservation specifically for this dish well over a month in advance. The reservation was for 6 people at 3pm on Sunday afternoon. When I got there and gave them my name there was some confusion and they couldn't find my reservation for a minute but then they sorted it out. The inside isn't super big and has a dining room area and a bar. There is an upstairs event space I haven't been in yet. There's just something about the pumpkin cream and pillowy gnocchi with fragrant basil that's perfect for fall. Of course I sampled all of my friend's other dishes as well and they were all superb, especially the porchetta and the tiramisu!

Absolutely soooooo worth the hype! I came to try the autumn special- the homemade gnocchi in a whole roasted pumpkin. It not only looks amazing but is soooooo tasty! Pumpkin and gnocchi and cheese and all. I ordered a side meatball bc it's their signature and I'm glad I did. It came with a side of red sauce and I can see why they're so popular. Very friendly staff! Don't forget to visit the bakery case- the Taylor Swift chai cookies were delish!

The food was clearly made with a lot of passion. The diverse pasta choices were so fun to share. Did not care for the branzino. The atmosphere is very happy and lively. The basta that comes in a bowl made of bread is fantastic!

It is a very cozy Italian restaurant that's serving homemade Italian food like your Nonna would make for you. We showed up on a Tuesday night and it was packed. It was around six or 6:30 in the evening and when we first got there, we were told it would be about a 20 minute wait before a two top was available. But the host came back and asked if we didn't mind sitting by the kitchen they could see us right away. We chose to sit by the kitchen, which honestly was probably the best option because it was actually a little bit quieter because there was a very large party that was celebrating a birthday and they had live music going on so it was hard to hear when you were in the main dining space but back by the kitchen it's a little bit quieter and we could actually hear ourselves talk. My husband got the penne with meatballs and the penny was nicely cooked with a beautiful tomato Bass sauce and the meatballs or some of the best Italian meatball he's ever had. His only complaint was that there were only two in the order and he wished there would've been three. I got the spinach and ricotta, stuffed ravioli, and by far one of the best raviolis I've ever had. The ravioli are large so there's only about five in a dish but they're packed fully and the flavoring and seasoning is absolutely spectacular. It's got a beautiful sauce like accompanies it and the chew you can definitely tell it is handmade pasta/ravioli. Our server, Emma was absolutely spectacular and was so kind. We truly enjoyed our experience here and would highly recommend anybody to check it out if you're in the area. But we also do recommend make your reservations ahead of time. This place gets packed quickly.

The waitresses are friendly and have great recommendations. I got to try their linguine rustica (essentially the clam pasta dish), a cappuccino, some cherry soda, and soup of the day, as well as complimentary bread. They got that bread out very quickly! Very soft, and served with quite high quality olive oil. The bottle has both olive oil and balsamic! The soup of the day was quite good as well. It was some sort of beef broth, I think may a beef and bean soup. Chickpeas in there as well. Next time, I might try the salad. The salad they have as a side is so good, an amazing portion and seems so fresh and tasty. The mains were excellent. Very good pasta with clam sauce. Lots of clam meat and a flavorful oil based sauce. My friend had some red penne with chicken and enjoyed that as well. Great portions, pretty fair prices. Finally, great drinks as well. Very memorable cherry cola that I believe the company is owned by the owner's son. Real cane sugar, very good. The cappuccino was great as well. Definitely come here!

The peppers were perfectly cooked to keep their beauty and texture and they were spicy too! We also requested a large order of their table bread and asked for a side of EVOO with it. I sprinkled grated pecorino and freshly ground red chili flakes into the EVOO to make an incredible dipping sauce which worked perfectly with that bread! For my entrée I enjoyed their amazing Spinach Tagliatelle which came perfectly presented and tasted amazing! The spinach was perfectly cooked to the proper texture and the sauce was so good I didn't mind it having eggplant in it (which I hate). Save room for dessert, their panna cotta was great! Seated via OpenTable Reservations…read more Food & Drink: - Mixed Drink(s): 5 / 5 Sip of Sunshine Old Fashioned - My server recommended it and I couldn't understand why he called it SOS until I had it. Spoiler: it's not the name. Clean, clear, smells like any other bourbon until that first sip reveals just how perfectly blended it is. The kind of drink you savor while watching the sun set on the horizon. Crème Brûlée Espresso Martini - As my heart rate settled from the first drink I needed something to kick it back up. One sip and I could've read the dictionary cover to cover without blinking. Close your eyes and the aroma takes you straight to that first cup of coffee fresh out of the pot. Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake Martini - Beautiful presentation but flatter in flavor than the previous two. However for a final cocktail that was exactly the point -- the perfect calm down after a rich and spicy meal. - Food: 4.25 / 5 Bread, Oil & Dip: A great palate cleanser that quickly taught me the chef loves his spices. The dip was described as "Italian Hummus" and if this is the standard I completely understand the hype. Appetizer - Ceviche Peruviano: Think of that forgotten appetizer thrown together last minute for a dinner party, a hodgepodge of raw fish and vegetables. But every bite delivers an explosion of complementary flavors, and that sneaky hint of spice hiding in the raw fish bites will wake you up immediately. Pre-pasta - Tuscan Kale Salad: Needed something to cleanse my palate after the spicy ceviche and frankly I am tired of Caesar salad. Not a kale fan normally because it tastes like dirt, but the lemon vinaigrette adds just enough flavor to make that dirt genuinely enjoyable. Pasta - Cacio E Pepe: Easily the highlight. My buddy describes it perfectly as fancy fettuccine. I have never liked fettuccine until now. My server, who prepared it himself, recommended adding house chili oil for a slight kick. I went one click past recommended and even then it was still divine. I would order it again without hesitation. Entrée - Veal Chop, Lobster Tail & Vegetables (Chef's preference): After riding Cloud 9 all evening I felt like Icarus flying too close to the sun. One word: bland. The veal was overcooked with all the flavor locked into the fat, and the lobster tail tasted like a convenience store impulse buy. The best use of those bones would be soup stock. I had no desire to finish it. Dessert - Tuxedo Crème Brûlée: As much as I wanted the house raspberry tiramisu I left the choice to my server after some back and forth. He recommended this for its balance of sweetness and berry bitterness and he was right. The perfect final note to tap out on. Service: 10 / 5 Even now, I still don't think I tipped my server enough. Dining alone, he made the evening feel like I had a companion at the table. Great conversation, personalized attention, and a level of service that few will ever experience. It was a pleasure to talk to someone who knows and appreciates food as much as I do. If you want an exceptional dining experience, request AJ as your server. I promise you won't be disappointed. Vibe: 5 / 5 Presentation, presentation, presentation. That is the theme every dish and the environment itself conveys the moment you walk through the doors at Alla Famiglia. This is a place for those who want to feel bourgeois for the night. Overall 4.25 / 5: My goal in life is to become a regular somewhere. There is something special about finding a place you love so much that every visit still feels like a new experience. Alla Famiglia is exactly that type of place. During my visit I was introduced to new items and dishes not listed on the menu, which only adds to that sense of discovery. It may be a while before I return since this place isn't cheap and my restaurant bucket list is long, but I will be back. Hopefully AJ is still there when I do, because that is exactly the kind of server you want in your corner as a regular. Recommend? Absolutely

Big Jim's is a Pittsburgh institution. It's been 20 years or so since my last visit to Big Jim's…read more My family was headed towards town around dinner time and decided to take advantage of the opportunity and stop by. We arrived around 4:30 on a Friday. We were able to get a parking spot around the back. We were quickly seated and beat the dinner rush by a few minutes. First off, our waitress couldn't have been sweeter. Super friendly and attentive. Very kind, especially to my youngest son. My wife had a small fish sandwich, my oldest son had the baked ziti, my youngest son had chicken parm, and I had gnocchi with meat sauce. Portions were large and tasty. Three of us had cups of wedding soup. Everyone was stuffed and enjoyed their meal. I would highly recommend and will not have a 20 year gap in visits to Big Jim's (in the run).

A friend told us how good Big Jim's was and we are so glad we decided to go try it…read more We were warmly greeted when we entered. The waitress was also very nice and accommodating the entire time. A man was also very helpful and brought us things we may need. I really enjoyed the super meaty and delicious meatballs on my meatball hoagie. The Marinara was really good. My husband's Italian and absolutely loved the veal cutlet sandwich. It was huge, crunchy and tasty. It made him nostalgic for the veal cutlets his grandmother used to make. The Fresh-cut Fries were good but weren't seasoned well enough. I also wish they were crunchier. We saw a man order the Stromboli and it was ginormous but looked delicious. He was a big guy and only ate about 25% of it. Got my mom a corned beef sandwich and she said it one of the best she had ever had. We're Irish and she loves them. There are lots of great things on the menu and will be back to try other things.
