For some reason, I had a feeling that something was amiss regarding this dining experience. I made the reservation on RESY and we were set. We got to the restaurant, approached the podium, I expressed the reservation and was told that they did not have one for me. We were asked to sit in the penalty box until they were able to find a table. We were fortunate and were seated. Our server was great. Very personable, helpful with the menu, made recommendations, etc. We ordered cocktails, which were very good. We then placed our order for dinner. My spouse had the beans and greens which were found to be quite good. I had the house salad which was also very good. For an entree, Bo ordered CACIO E PEPE and I ordered, BUCATINI all'AMATRICIANA. This is where we started to descend into food limbo. The cacio e pepe was flavorless with as little pepper as possible. So few, in fact that you could accurately count them. The pasta was overcooked and mushy. My entree was another disappointment. In the description, it states: "Bucatini Pasta, Guanciale, San Marzano Tomatoes, Pecorino Romano" Now, can any of you, off the top of your heads, tell me what Guanciale is? Guanciale just happens to be, an Italian cured meat made from pork jowl or cheek. Its name comes from guancia, the Italian word for cheek. It is rubbed with salt, black pepper, and spices, then aged for several weeks, creating a rich meat with a high fat content that is prized for flavoring classic pasta sauces. In my entree they were small cubes, meat-like, and one side of each cube was burnt to a crips, solid black and real crunchy. It gave the whole dish a burnt taste. Not the best. For dessert, Bo ordered the Banana Sundae Cheesecake. I bet you thought it tasted like bananas. Nope. It tasted like cheesecake. I passed on dessert. My choice was determined by the quality of my entry. Atmosphere. There are some restaurants, these days, where you have to raise your voice to talk to one another. Here we had to literally scream but still not be able to hear one another. It's all too common now to forego a suspended tile ceiling and carpet on the floor, which absorbs the sound. This was absolutely the loudest dining establishment I was ever in. Looking around, it seemed that most people have bought into the notion that this is as good as it gets when it comes to dining ambiance. Look, I'm old school and this just didn't cut it for us. People really hyped this place up, so I was excited to finally try it. The atmosphere is really cute, and I'm glad I made a reservation because it got super busy, even on a Thursday. Our waitress, Emily, was wonderful and so kind. The bread was good, but I wish it had been served hot. I also wasn't a huge fan of it sitting directly in the olive oil and vinegar like that. The gnocchi was one of the best I've ever had. The texture was incredible. I also got the short rib pasta, which was just okay. The meat was very tender, but the overall flavors didn't really stand out to me. The portions are definitely huge, though! I had been looking forward to this dinner for a while. The place is so cute and the menu has some delicious looking dishes. The bread with whipped ricotta was the star of the meal. Fresh, hot and satisfying. The cocktails were average and my Hugo spritz was unimpressive. No fresh mint. Where are things really took a turn was on the steak Florentine. Not only did it take an exceptionally long time to reach our table, but it was completely overcooked. Very disappointing for the first time at this restaurant. The server noted he could replace it, but it would take a long time so he offered to comp us dessert which was appreciated. On a positive note, the Genovese alla Paccheri was tasty. If I were to try the restaurant again, I would probably get that dish. We took dessert to go. The tiramisu was solid. We also got a blackberry tart, which was probably the best thing and the Italian rainbow cookie, which was dry. As far as the interior of the restaurant, it is a really cute vibe. It was a hot and humid evening and all of the windows were open so the restaurant got quite hot so it was a bit uncomfortable. Parking was a challenge, but that's to be expected at the strip. My first restaurant since moving to Pittsburgh! We went on a Friday night and the restaurant was packed. We waited about an hour for our food which was kind of frustrating but they were absolutely slammed. Our server even brought us a second plate of bread and oil to make up for it (which we appreciated)! The food was worth the wait! Loved heirloom pasta and gnocchi w/ meatballs were delicious as well!! We also got tiramisu for dessert (not pictured) yeah, no. The mascarpone was dense and I believe they used cake instead of the ladyfingers. Portions are very generous, so two people could easily share one sandwich, one pasta dish (but we happily ordered a couple so that we could try different things). My wife and I were seated on the second level, which I felt like removed us from the energetic and vibing atmosphere on the first level. But honestly, we didn't come for the atmosphere, we came for the food. The bread and oil was fresh. The gnocchis are huge giant pillows, but still go down light. The scampi was super flavorful. Friday dinner here while in town for the weekend. I had originally made a reservation for 10 just in case the baseball game ran over, but received a call that earlier times had opened up. We moved the reservation to 9 and came there shortly before. To start, we ordered the bread and whipped ricotta, as well as the brussel sprouts. The bread was massive and the whipped ricotta was a nice touch. The brussel sprouts were also good - served with a sweet glaze and thick cubed pork belly. For my entree I ordered the gnocchi and meatballs which was incredibly large. The gnocchi were the size of rectangular pillowed donut holes. They almost were the same size as the meatballs. The sauce was also nicely seasoned and had a good flavor. I also added a half size of the cacio e Pepe. Easily one of the top 5 places I have had this dish. The sauce was perfectly flavored with pepper, plenty of sauce so it didn't stick to the pasta and become just a clumped mess - and the right size. For dessert I ordered the berry brown butter pastry. This was a perfect size and packed great flavor. Multi-leveled but still bright while being rich. I liked this place - can be loud, but they also have outdoor seating. My only wish would be that you could order pizza from Davide which is attached to the back of this location. read more

Located near The Strip and only a half block from the bus stop. Lovely two story with dining areas on both levels. Beautifully decorated to look like you are eating in Italy. Friendly servers. Nice wine selection with very decent prices. They give you fresh bread and a small plate of olive oil with balsamic drizzle to dip the bread. That was delicious. Would have been five stars except my Stuffed Shells were served slightly warm ish. But they tasted good. Would have been fabulous if it was served hot and fresh. This place is so cool looking and much bigger than I realized from the outside. We showed up early Saturday evening and they seated the four of us upstairs. It was so nice. Theres even a cute little balcony overlooking the downstairs and Im a sucker for theming. Our server was very helpful creating a vegan dish for my husband but alas the creamy mushroom sauce won him over. I tasted it. It was amazing! The kids menus came with crayons and a very nice create your own pasta for kids with seasonal veggies. The kids cookies looked huge and delicious too as an add on. The free bread service was nice but I think we saw the paid upgrade version and it looked amazing. So if we ever go with a bigger party we will definitely be doing that. It is a bit pricey so dinner there is definitely a nice treat and not a weekly thing for us My only note is that I wish there was a salad with the entree. read more

This spot is in the Strip District, so parking can be tricky and hard to find. But we got lucky and found parking about a block away. Unfortunately, we did not have the best experience with our meal at DiAnoia's. Our waiter was very kind and attentive, although he did get sidetracked at times because of how busy the restaurant was. We could tell he was doing his best, so we have no complaints about him personally. The atmosphere is nice and definitely gives you that cozy Italian feel. Unfortunately, the food was a completely different story. I'm Italian, so I grew up around homemade Italian food and am very accustomed to having a really good red sauce. My relatives make an incredible red sauce, and I make my own as well, incorporating the Italian traditions and recipes that have been passed down through our family. Because DiAnoia's is family-owned and has such a strong Italian identity, I honestly expected their food, especially their red sauce, to have that same kind of homemade, flavorful quality. Unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. We ordered the $14 bread with olive oil, which was fine but didn't have much flavor. What also bothered me was that we noticed the table next to us was given complimentary bread and dipping oil, yet this was never offered to us. Since we had already ordered the $14 bread, it honestly felt like once they saw we were paying for bread, we didn't "deserve" the additional complimentary bread that other tables were receiving. I understand that we had already ordered bread, but it was still an odd experience to watch another table receive something complimentary that wasn't even mentioned or offered to us. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, which was especially disappointing because I had previously tried them at an Italian festival and absolutely loved them. That experience was actually what made me want to come to the restaurant and order them again. This time, the spaghetti was bland to the point of being almost inedible. The sauce tasted essentially like plain tomato soup with virtually no seasoning, herbs, garlic, or depth of flavor. It was so bland that I actually had to ask our waiter for herbs and salt just to try to make the dish taste like something. My husband's dish was no better. The beef itself was cooked well, but the pasta and sauce were again completely lacking in flavor. And that was probably the biggest disappointment for me. I'm not expecting every restaurant to make sauce exactly the way my family does, but I do expect a restaurant centered around Italian food to serve a sauce with some actual flavor and character. This sauce simply did not have it. For a restaurant with the reputation and price point that DiAnoia's has, I honestly expected much more. Italian food should be flavorful, and unfortunately, there was very little flavor in either of our meals. We spent nearly $70 for two entrées and bread, and I genuinely don't feel like we got $70 worth of food. At that price, I shouldn't have to ask for salt and herbs to make my dinner taste good. The service and atmosphere were pleasant, but at the end of the day, we go to a restaurant for the food, and unfortunately, the food was the part that missed the mark completely. I really wanted to love this place based on my previous experience with their meatballs, but after this dinner, I don't think we'd return. read more

One of my favorite seasonal dishes in Pittsburgh is the gnocchi pumpkin bowl at DiAnoia's so much so that I made a reservation specifically for this dish well over a month in advance. The reservation was for 6 people at 3pm on Sunday afternoon. When I got there and gave them my name there was some confusion and they couldn't find my reservation for a minute but then they sorted it out. The inside isn't super big and has a dining room area and a bar. There is an upstairs event space I haven't been in yet. There's just something about the pumpkin cream and pillowy gnocchi with fragrant basil that's perfect for fall. We scored the last table here at 6 o'clock on a week night after an early show at the Pittsburgh Winery. Many different menu items and drinks sound good, but we ended on the winter vegetable carpaccio (pretty to look at and tastes good), gnocchi and meatballs (both are huge), and white beans and hot sausage (salty). The focaccia in oil was yummy. I liked my Elisir di Mora cocktail, but hubby said his vanilla grapefruit Italian soda was better before all the ice in it melted. Staff are nice. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my first visit to DiAnoia's. It absolutely lives up to the hype. A member of our party found that they had mixed up the dates on the reservation, but DiAnoia's was able to accommodate us day-of, even though it was a Saturday night. Their staff were so friendly and understanding. We started off with a round of cocktails and the meat and cheese tray. The aged gouda was fantastic, but others also remarked on the peppercorn Asiago. The meats were also delightful. Bread with oil and balsamic vinegar was also brought out around the same time, and we couldn't get enough of it. We each ordered a different pasta dish, and they were all so good that we almost didn't share with each other. I went with the bread bowl with gnocchi, and it was phenomenal. The sauce is like an even better, even cheesier vodka sauce. You will absolutely have leftovers because the portions are huge. The pork pasta dish was also delicious, but I truly could not get enough of the gnocchi. We finished our visit with an Amari flight and an order of some of the more popular dessert options like the tiramisu and zeppole. The citrus flavor in the zeppole was delightful and not overpowering, and the tiramisu was not overly sugary. We also ordered the chocolate pine nut cake, which was a wonderful blend of textures and flavors while not being too rich. While the space is somewhat small and loud, you will be so immersed in the delicious food and drinks. If you're in the strip (or honestly, even if you're not), grab a res at DiAnoia's! read more

This place feels like Alla Famiglia's younger sister with an Italian beach club vibe. The patio is absolutely adorable and was one of my favorite parts of the experience! We stopped by while walking around the Strip District looking for a quick lunch. During lunch service, you order at the kiosk, find a seat, and clean up after yourself, which makes for a casual and easy experience. Food: The tomato sauce here is probably some of the best red sauce I've had in a long time. We ordered the Caprese Panzanella, meatballs, crispy potatoes, and spaghetti with red sauce. Everything was delicious, but the salad completely stole the show for me. It was packed with fresh ingredients, bright flavors, and so many different textures that worked perfectly together. Every dish tasted fresh, simple, and executed well. Service: For lunch, you're mostly taking care of yourself, but the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming whenever we interacted with them.
