I was in Pittsburgh for a few days to watch the Kings/Pens hockey game. This was a poppin breakfast spot. There was a wait for a table, but we got right in at the counter. I had the I Am...Kaazam! I added avocado and it would outstanding. I should have added one more slice of toast to balance it out. My hockey pal/drinking buddy had the Lox'd & Loaded. He said it was the best lox he's had. They said they make it in house. If you like hot sauce, ask for their pineapple version. It is almost clear, like it was distilled. It was a fabulous addition. For drinks, we had water. I had a mimosa and my pal had a bloody Mary. Drinking buddy even added the pineapple hot sauce to his drink. It was a great way to start the day before watching the Kings beat the Penguins.
Coffee: STRONG Service: Friendly! Ambiance: Easy-breezy Food: Tasty and plentiful Terrific breakfast spot. Bright and cheerful, laid-back vibe. Great selection of coffees (cortado, cappuccino, latte, etc.) and STRONG drip. All our breakfasts-Flyin' Hawaiian toast, I Am Kazaam (similar to a shakshuka), and straight-up old-school eggs and home fries--were delicious and ample. Sela, our server, was Johnny-on-the-spot with coffees and was a delight. After a late night of music downtown, this was just what the doctor ordered.
The interior was very metallic and millennial. I liked the big windows and we sat near them. Staff was lovely and helped us with our order. The drip coffee was a star. The goat omelette was really good but dry, it kind of was crumbling. Taste was great though. The hen's hash was weird-why did they put in brussel sprouts? And both yellow and sweet potatoes? It did not go together at all, but I think if they tweak it overall will be a star.
Went to Speckled Egg without reservation on a Sunday morning! I saw that they switched reservation systems and are now on Tock!?? I saw Tock was showing open tables and so I thought I'd hit Speckled Egg and REI next door, and sure enough, they seated me immediately as their counter spaces were mostly empty. This South Side Works location has a clean, crisp, bright ambiance vs the other location that has a very different feel because of its old fancy building vibes. The counter seats I am afraid are a real pain in the butt... some of the most uncomfortable ones I've found anywhere and they're too high for people who aren't tall. I'd suggest regular tables... Saw no wifi of their own. I had the Hen's Hash, which was great and came with a generous helping of well cooked delicious potatoes. I've previously had their version of the shakshuka (I am Kazaam), which is also nice. I appreciate it when restaurants have decent hot sauces. They had tabasco, which is a pretty low bar but they had this in-house fancy drizzle, which was great... but it wasn't hot at all. Friendly attentive server at the bar there. No issues!
I went out to breakfast with my wife. We decided on The Speckled Egg. I have to say The speckled Egg is one of the best breakfast spots I have been to in Pittsburgh. The staff were fantastic and super friendly. The waitress was super friendly and nice and did an amazing job. I had 2 eggs over easy and toast, bacon and home fries. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. I would 100% recommend this place and it is definitely a must goto breakfast spot. I will definitely be going back for more.
We were in Pittsburgh for a few hours and asked around for brunch recommendations. The Speckled Egg came up multiple times and it did not disappoint! It was easy to park and we were seated promptly. The restaurant is spacious and decorated with egg-themed pieces. You could tell from how the kitchen operated that they cared a lot about quality and freshness. We got a breakfast sando, aloha pudding, and a breakfast plate with eggs, sausage, and toast. The pudding was incredible and made me question why I don't try to make chia seed pudding more often! Really delicious toppings of chopped nuts, fresh fruit, toasted oats. The sausage was the best sausage I've ever had for brunch. I also tried one of their fresh squeezed juices and also felt that was high quality. Definitely try this place out!

I heard great things about their cocktails, but was disappointed in the pumpkin spice espresso martini, something was off and tasted a bit sour. Other than that, everything was excellent and my grilled cheese was to die for! I have always had a great meal here.
The BEST!! This is my favorite brunch spot in Pittsburgh. It never disappoints. Everything is always delicious, the cocktails are beautiful, and the service is so friendly. My favorite order is either the breakfast sandwich or the pattys melt. I think the Patty's melt is literally the best thing they make. Seriously everyone needs to try!!!

I did have a bit of a wait before being seated, but that's expected for a Saturday in Pittsburgh (especially one with nice weather!). :) The food was INCREDIBLE and beautiful platted! The atmosphere is cheery and bustling with people! I highly recommend The Speckled Egg South Side location! It's much bigger than the downtown location, and I love that it's connected to a coffee shop! Parking is VERY easy too (at least two parking lots nearby, and street parking)!

The hens hash was v good n flavorful w mushrooms, Brussels sprout n sweet potato. Tuna melt tasted good n the portions were way generous. And so was the patty melt. Thank you for a great brunch. My go to place next time I'm in south side flats.
I enjoy this spot a lot. It's always a great experience and the food is so good. Lots of indoor seating and there is also outdoor seating available. The server was good.

Quiche for a Cause - 5 stars - My husband ate this quiche. It contained ham and potatoes. On the side was a salad, and my husband said that he really liked the in-house vinaigrette dressing. Please note that the ingredients are seasonal. Brown-Butter French Toast - 4.5 stars - Slices of French toast were topped with very sweet strawberry-cardamom jam, powdered sugar, maple syrup, and butter. Millennial Toast with Crab - 5 stars - This toast was topped with avocado and a generous amount of crab meat.

We stopped by the south side marina and this gem is a short walk from there. I loved my avo toast!!! Yum, the spices were perfect My husband enjoyed his chicken salad sandwich as well. My daughter LOVES the chia seed pudding!! read more

This location is very convenient for us and we often go here when we have guests. They serve a solid and simple breakfast and can accommodate most diets. To drink, I had an iced chai and my husband a Bloody Mary. My husband liked the number of pickled veggies that came with his drink. I had the breakfast sandwich on gluten free bread. I also added chicken sausage in it because it doesn't come with meat. I also got a side of potatoes to make it more like a meal. My husband had the French toast, simple but good according to him. Our waiter was nice and chatted with us. The place is always packed around brunch time on the weekend so I would recommend to reserve a table. read more
This place is so delish! We made a reservation for brunch and it was easy to get on the list pretty quickly. It started to get busy once we got there too! It is a bit tiny on the inside but they do have lots of seating. They have a coffee shop right on the other side of the restaurant and the iced lattes are delicious. Now about the food, so tasty! I got the croque madam and it was the perfect brunch dish. I added their homemade pineapple hot sauce on top. Yum!!! read more

Good breakfast the other morning - popped in during the handmade market. We easily got seats at the pretty bar. The service there was great - very attentive. My husband got the Rachel Ray - not sure why the name, but it's basically a Reuben w/ Turkey. He got it on marble rye. He wasn't super impressed, but it was tasty. I got the breakfast sando--- the 2 "broke yolks" weren't broke, but I like em runny. I added avocado. That was a nice addition, otherwise the sammie's a little low on flavor. Overall, though, it was breakfast. The vibe is a nice hipster chic. We didn't get coffee - but it seemed popular. We'll be back. read more

This is such a cute brunch spot with lots of items on the menu, so if you like a variety then this is the place to go!! They also have a bar area with lots of alcoholic bevs as well. Their lox and loaded bagel was one of the best lox bagels I've had! It's def ez to make at home but I wanted to treat myself with a fancier version of it and this spot rlly hit it well. My friend got their grilled chicken biscuit and the chicken was super tender and crunchy. We came during a busy Sunday, but we got seated within 10 minutes and our server was super attentive and making sure we were satisfied with our food and service! read more
I love everything about the speckled egg! It's always busy so make sure to get a reservation but it is so worth it! The food is delicious and so fresh! My hens hash had so much fresh dill it was absolutely delicious. The aloha chia pudding was delicious with all this fresh fruit on top. Their coffee area is also adorable and the coffee is very good! read more

Listen -- I've eaten a lot of brunch in my life. I've seen some things. But nothing could've prepared me for the religious experience that happened inside my mouth at The Speckled Egg. I ordered the Patty's Melt, and let me tell you: this sandwich slaps. It's filthy in all the right ways -- greasy, cheesy, eggy goodness stacked between two pieces of thick, buttery toast that could probably ruin a marriage if served at the wrong time. I took one bite and blacked out. Woke up halfway through the sandwich with juice running down my hand and no regrets. That pickle? Crunchier than my last breakup and twice as satisfying. My girlfriend got the Lox'd & Loaded, and I swear to God, that dish was flirting with me across the table. Creamy whipped cheese, silky smoked salmon, fresh cucumber, and arugula piled on toast like it's about to pose for a boudoir shoot. Every bite was light, sexy, and somehow made me want to text my ex, "Don't worry, I'm doing better now." The place itself? Clean, modern, and chill -- like a Scandinavian brunch sauna where everyone smells like fresh espresso and looks well-rested. Staff was friendly, fast, and didn't judge me for making deeply inappropriate noises while eating. read more

I love the matcha here but the breakfast was pretty average. Unfortunately, I was served with burnt toasts. It wasn't pleasant to eat with the eggs and sausage. Service was great and the ambiance was nice. read more

I visited this place while in town because of the reviews I had seen, and wow! While the wait was about 1 hour, it was well worth it. So much so we went back a second day. I had the chorizo omelette and it was perfect. I also tried a side of my husband's pancakes, and those were the best pancakes I've had in my life! No lie! I highly recommend trying this quaint restaurant out. It's located inside of a historic building with accents of gold. Ask the waiter/waitress about the building's history. It's a whole thing! I will be returning if ever back in town! read more

Reviewed December 6, 2025 (visited this morning) I've been to The Speckled Egg multiple times over the past year and have always left impressed. I regularly recommend it to my 10k+ followers on my Pittsburgh food account because the smashed-potato benedict and lemon-ricotta pancakes are legitimately some of the best brunch dishes in the city. Today, however, the experience at the host stand was frustrating enough that I have to speak up. We arrived at 11:10 for our 11:15 reservation--five minutes early. We checked in and were immediately told, "We're still waiting on some 11:00 parties," and asked to step aside. Over the next ten minutes I watched: * Several parties who arrived after us (clearly late for their 11:00 reservations) get walked straight to tables. * Another couple with the exact same 11:15 reservation time walk in at 11:16 and get seated instantly while we continued standing there. We were finally seated at 11:20. No apology, no explanation--just a ten-minute wait while later arrivals were prioritized. Here's the thing: almost every popular brunch spot in Pittsburgh now requires a credit card on file and charges $25-$100 per person for late arrivals or no-shows. The Speckled Egg does not, which is totally their prerogative, but if you're going to run without that policy, the very least you can do is treat everyone fairly and seat people in the order they check in (especially when someone shows up early and others are late). A quick "Hey, we're running a few minutes behind, thanks for being early--we'll get you in as soon as we can" would have completely diffused the situation. Instead it felt dismissive and inconsistent. I hope management considers either implementing a credit-card-hold policy (like the rest of the city) or at the very least training the host team on basic fairness and communication. The Speckled Egg is too good to let ten awkward minutes at the door overshadow an otherwise excellent hospitality. read more
Decided to have brunch here a few days ago. Saw another person ordered their Hen's Hash and I knew I wanted one. Didn't realized how generous the portion was! Our server was friendly and this place gets packed especially on a beautiful day. They also do offer outside seating and is pet friendly too. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying other items on their menu. read more
Overly expensive hipster food. My husband's wanted to try this place for awhile but just looking at the menu, I already knew what we were getting into. Weird combinations of foods. Poppy seed pancakes, corn in breakfast potatoes, goat cheese, agave, ect. Everything is extra. $15 for a sandwich with no side. $7 for orange juice. $10-15 for toast. Everything was just ok. Nothing special. I don't need a garden of herbs on my eggs. Would rather go to a local mom and pop restaurant It's a one and done for us read more

This location is much bigger than the downtown location. You can dine in for breakfast or get a coffee and pastry to go. I got the avocado toast with bacon. It hit the spot, but I wish I would've got something else. It's not really a full meal, more of a starter. The staff were kind and attentive. read more

The Speckled Egg is hands down the best gluten-free-friendly breakfast spot in Pittsburgh! I had such a great experience here and felt completely safe dining as someone with celiac. My server immediately flagged my meal as celiac, which gave me so much confidence in their process. They offer wild rise bakery toast and safe potatoes--something that's surprisingly hard to find, so I was thrilled! It's not easy to find truly celiac-safe breakfast places, but The Speckled Egg delivers on both safety and flavor. I can't wait to come back! Celiac note: I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2023 and have been on the hunt for safe and delicious gluten-free spots around Pittsburgh ever since. Everyone with celiac has different comfort levels when eating out, so I always recommend doing your own research and choosing what feels right for you. read more
I attended a pop-up dinner here and it was fantastic. The servers were all attentive, and the courses were well paced. The menu was a winter themed Cassoulet which was delicious. There was no corkage fee, which is refreshing. read more
I love this location of TSE! If you have to wait for a table, you can grab a coffee at Commonplace Coffee and wait. Definitely would recommend making a reservation on the weekends but during the week, you're probably safe. I recently enjoyed the buttermilk pancakes, fried chicken biscuit, and Lox'd & Loaded. The pancakes are always delish but this was the first time I has the chicken biscuit and toast. Omg that biscuit is to die for! The chicken was cooked perfectly and the pimento cheese was a great addition. I'll definitely be adding this to the rotation of favorites! read more
All I can say is YUM!! I absolutely love the Speckled Egg downtown and was excited to give the new(ish) Southside location a try. The bartender Zach, who was sadly working his last shift, was so wonderful. The Lox'd & Loaded was phenomenal, and they make the Lox in house! My mom had the Millennial (avocado toast) with Lox and said it was amazing as well. We also enjoyed a side of potatoes that were just delicious. There are plenty of drink options available from classic mimosas and bloody Mary's to craft cocktails and beers to juices from Pittsburgh Juice Company. Our quoted wait time of 45 minutes ended up being closer to 20, but it gave us time to enjoy a coffee and pastry right next door at Commonplace Coffee. read more

This place was pretty amazing. I tried their eggs benedict and can still remember how wonderful it was. I also had a caramel latte which they got from the connected and next door coffee place. I stopped here on a Saturday morning around 9:30. We had reservations, but there were plenty of open tables, so it turned out not to be needed in our case. There was an elevated counter seating area that overlooked the restaurant and had a view of the kitchen, which is something that I always appreciate at restaurants. We requested to sit at the counter and move from where they originally seated us, which was happily accommodated. We ordered the hen's hash, sweater weather (toast with ricotta and apples), and the pumpkin pancakes to share. The hen's hash was delicious with the poached eggs and biscuit. The Brussels sprouts paired surprisingly well with the meal and made me feel a little healthier after chowing through the pumpkin pancakes! They did a very nice job on the decor inside. Large glass windows allow tons of natural light into the space. So much light, that depending on where you are seated and when you go, it may actually be a bit of a nuisance with sun in your eyes or on your back. Our server was friendly and attentive, making us feel welcomed and valued. The food was brought out quickly, about 10 minutes after ordering, and was fresh. I am happy to have finally tried this place after hearing good things about their other location. This one is more convenient for where we live, so I may be back again soon! Be aware, they do not seem to have many seating options for large parties, so I would definitely call ahead if you are looking to come with a group. read more
Lovely brunch spot in Southside Works! We easily made a reservation online for two people for the same day. After walking through the shared entrance with Commonplace Coffee, there was a quick pause since we weren't sure how to be seated. But once we turned to the left, we were met by the hostess and guided to a table by the window. There was a variety of seating, including small tables, larger booths, a high-counter top, and the bar. We requested to be moved to the high-counter top, which was accommodated. The space is open and bright, especially with natural light pouring in on a sunny day. They have a wide variety of brunch specials to choose from, including breakfast classics, sandwiches, toast, soup & salad, and a la carte items. I ordered the "Sweater Weather," which had house ricotta, cinnamon roasted apples, whey caramel and toasted almonds on a slice of sourdough. For a drink, I went with a refreshing "Berry Watermelon" cold pressed juice supplied by Pittsburgh Juice Co. read more

Amazing breakfast and brunch spot! Two locations- downtown and South Side. I checked out the South Side location, connected to Commonplace Coffee, street and garage parking available. The space is so pretty, delicate and bright- super cute! Great service, sat at the bar and the bartender/server was so friendly' They offer a super good brunch menu, everything from classics to specialty breakfast items, something for everyone. Tried the T.S.E. Breakfast Sando! Probably one of the best breakfast sandwiches in the city!!! Onion & poppy seed bun toasted to perfection with two broke yolks, T.S.E. Sauce, American cheese, Boston lettuce, then I added some of their homemade Pineapple Hot Sauce- which was insane! It was subtle, sweet with a hint of spice! Absolutely obsessed! read more

There were no complaints when it came to the food, either! Our table had the French toast, the millennial (an elevated avocado toast), lox'd and loaded, and eggs Benedict. Everything was prepared quickly and served hot and fresh. I also recommend the grapefruit which has a crème brûlée-like taste to it! The space is very bright and open, with plenty of tables as well as seating at the counters, and our service was great! My husband and our friends really enjoyed it. I had been wanting to try it and am so glad we did. The waiter was very nice and super attentive. That doesn't happen too much anymore since everyone is spread so thin. My friend had an issue with her goat cheese omelette and he immediately took care of it. The manager also came by to apologize and assured her it would not only be replaced but removed from the bill. Great service! The runners who brought the drinks and food were great too. My friends liked their blood Mary's and Irish Coffee. My husband enjoyed his cappuccino. We all enjoyed the pumpkin pancake appetizer. It was so good. My husband had the poppyseed pancakes and wasn't a huge fan. He said they were very dense and a bit dry. He had to put syrup on them and he never does. He liked the pumpkin pancake much better. I absolutely loved my friend chicken biscuit with honey. It was unbelievably tender and flavorful. We also loved the side of home fries. Once my friend's goat cheese omelette was fixed, she really enjoyed it. They also split the ala Kazam Shaksuka and enjoyed that too. I'd love to come back again and try the brown butter French toast. When my friends tried the one downtown they tried it and said it was delicious. It was a really nice space with lots of room. Go check them out.
