Enjoyed our dinner at this new Italian spot the Southside. Love the couple that runs this place. Husband does the cooking and wife runs the dining room. We started with the Parmesan Beignets which were very tasty. My ravioli dish was very good but small with only 3 raviolis. Presentation was gorgeous. My husband had the lamb bolognese and enjoyed it as well. I was disappointed at the rather high corkage fee at $7 per person. We will be back! read more

I came here for dinner on their opening night and the food was spectacular!! Everything was so flavorful and plated so beautifully. We got the parmesan beignets for appetizer and they were delicious. I would definitely recommend them. For my main course, I got the ravioli and it was absolutely incredible. My sister got the chicken parm and she said it was amazing. My fiancé got the Cacio e Pepe and he loved it as well!! It is BYOB which I really enjoy so I can bring wines from my wine clubs! The service was great and the ambiance is very cute. Newly opened on East Carson Street, Capozoli's Trattoria is the cutest Italian restaurant to hit the South Side! Located in the former Cucina Vitale space, this fresh chapter is co-owned by the sweetest husband-and-wife duo--fittingly named after their family name, Capozoli. The space is cozy and intimate, so a reservation is definitely recommended. Bonus: it's BYOB! Their menu may be small, but that just makes the decision easier (even though I don't think you could go wrong with anything here!). You're welcomed with warm bread and oil--a lovely start. We ordered the bruschetta: crispy focaccia topped with whipped ricotta, garlic, oven-roasted tomatoes, balsamic reduction, and fresh basil. A true masterpiece. For mains, the Pasta Primavera was bursting with flavor--spring pea emulsion, bucatini, asparagus tips, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, and basil. I added the chicken and WOW--hand-breaded, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. I'm already planning my return just for that chicken. We also tried the show-stopping 40-layer lasagna, featuring ricotta béchamel, San Marzano sauce, and Parmigiano. Absolutely delicious and beautifully plated. We really wanted to love Capozoli's but left very disappointed. To start we had the Caesar and bruschetta. The Caesar dressing tasted a little off and the salad itself was small and probably not worth $12. The bruschetta was overly sweet and the texture of the tomatoes was mushy. For a main, I had the ravioli which were pretty much tasteless. They needed, at the very least, way more salt. Overall, pretty confused by the number of positive reviews and really bummed about the quality of the food given the price point. Capozoli's is truly a hidden gem. It's a tiny, intimate Italian restaurant with fewer than 10 tables, and you can watch the chef cook your meal the entire time. The husband-and-wife team who run it make the experience feel personal, and the service is absolutely perfect. They start you off with fresh bread and oil that's so delicious, and the Parmesan beignets might honestly be the best thing I've ever eaten--no exaggeration. It's BYOB, which just makes the cozy vibe even better. For mains, we had the fettuccine ai funghi, which was creamy with the perfect mushroom flavor, and the chicken Marsala, which seriously impressed us. We finished with cannolis that tasted incredibly fresh. The whole atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, with soft background music and no loud noise thanks to the small space. We have been to Capozoli's numerous times since they opened. It is a small (for now as they are only seating one floor) Italian restaurant in an uncrowded part of south side (parking is easy). Besides the chef & his wife (front of the house) there is only 1 employee - a dishwasher. The front of the house is perfectly run by this one young woman - how I don't know! The quality of the food is stellar coming from one young chef who prepares every meal. It is plated beautifully & every dish is well thought out and delicious. Friday we started with the crab stuffed squash blossoms that were fabulous. We then followed that with a seasonal pea and bean salad that was springlike and fresh. For dinner I chose the beef cheek, which was melt in your mouth fabulous and my husband had the chicken piccata served with a perfectly prepared risotto. There are always excellent, seasonal salads and well-thought-out appetizers, including features of the day. There are pasta dishes and featured entrees that are James beard nominee worthy. While they are BYO for now they do have some wine tastings events that then allow them to sell some wines on occasion. They also do tasting events ie: feast of seven fishes, etc. that sound fantastic although we have not attended yet. This is a place you must go & take your friends. I enjoyed a night out with friends at Capozoli's during their first week open. The dining room is small and intimate, allowing you to peak into the kitchen to watch the chef prepare your meal. Our table split many of the appetizers and were pleased with the flavors, presentation and size of all of them. Highly recommend the Parmesan Beignets! My main meal selection was the Veal Milanese and it will be hard for me to pick a different dish next time because it was so good! The veal had the crispiest breading and the lemon arugula on top added a really nice freshness and crunch! Capozoli's is BYOB which is amazing so you can enjoy your favorite wines with their signature dishes. Connor and Irina (owners) really made us feel welcome and we enjoyed a conversation with them at the end of our meal. 10/10 would recommend and will be returning soon! read more
