On our trip to Pittsburgh, we went to the strip district around midday on a Monday so it wasn't too crowded. The strip district is not what it sounds like but is a street full of tourists shops, eateries, bars and grocery stores. We hadn't even eaten breakfast and around 1:00 I was hungry. Wandering around we found this quaint little restaurant called Caffe Mona. It has indoor and outdoor seating and reminded us of our trip to Italy. Right off, we were given a glass bottle of water which also reminded us of Italy. The poster menu outside already told us the prices here were very reasonable. I like eggs Benedict so that's what I ordered while my girlfriend ordered breakfast burritos. I didn't realize until later that this was a breakfast/brunch spot as it was already 1:00. Anyway, I have to say that these were the best eggs Benedict I have ever eaten anywhere! I wish I had taken a picture of my plate before I dug in but I don't think I have ever seen such nicely cooked eggs and they were delicious! The hollandaise sauce and seasoning was perfect and needed no additional salt or pepper. To add to the great flavors were their home fries which were small 1/2 inch cut potatoes perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the seasoning was unbelievable! We were guessing a little bit of paprika on the light salt. My girlfriend kept raving about the fries but she also enjoyed her breakfast burrito though she could only finish one of the two that came with the meal. I was stuffed too and ate all my fries just because they were so good. Our two meals and a coffee came up to $36. There was some nice vocal jazz music playing in the background and the waiter who just happened to be from Italy was super. I'm sure it didn't hurt that as I wrote earlier that it was a Monday and not crowded at all but the whole ambiance was delightful. If, or when we ever come back to Pittsburgh from Hawaii (go Steelers!), I will want to have breakfast here again! read more

This place had seating area and the place to order is at the back. Cute decor. Little hectic when ordering and not sitting as no place to stand while waiting without getting in the way. It's well decorated small cozy restaurant. The breakfast was great. The crepe, pancakes and breakfast sandwiches were all delicious.

I was honestly so disappointed with my experience here, but the food was good. Firstly, when my group asked the waiter how long it would take to get a table, he said about 10 minutes. We waited over 30 minutes, which is mildly annoying but also you can't predict how long people will stay at tables so it wasn't really a big deal. The waiter was kind and apologized for our wait and offered a free dessert. After we put our orders in, we all sat around chit chatting until I noticed that quite a bit of time had passed since we put our order in. We flagged our waiter down and asked when the food would be out and he briefly said yes before continuing to tend to another table. While we continued waiting, a different waiter put the check down on our table. We told him we hadn't received our food yet so he took the check and left. By now, over an hour had passed so I flagged our waiter down and asked him to check with the kitchen when our order would be finished. He came back and said there was no ticket out in for our orders and apologized saying the food would be put in about 6-7 minutes. He was right. The food came out quickly and the free dessert we were offered in the beginning was a single Nutella crepe to be split amongst 5 people. The food itself was good, but the overall experience was unenjoyable especially since my group was in a time crunch to attend an event that afternoon and we didn't expect to be here for over 2 hours. read more

Went here for brunch with some friends on a Saturday and were able to get seated right away! We all enjoyed our food & it was reasonably priced for the quality provided! I got the arugula chicken sandwich and it was fantastic - it had goat cheese on it and all the flavors together were fantastic. Additionally, their fries are remarkably similar to McDonald's fries -- SO GOOD! Will definitely be coming back 10/10 read more

Yes!! Best breakfast spot on the strip district! The owners are so kind. They remember you and really care about a good experience. It's lots of food, might even have some to take home. absolutely love this place. Got the chevre omelette and a mushroom crepe. Literally the best omelette I've ever had in my life that goat cheese and everything was so fresh and fluffy. Service here does kind of suck but the food is amazing and the vibe inside is cute so it's worth it. read more

Lordy, they need air conditioning! However, the food was delicious. The smell of Turkish coffee was permeating. The cafe has beautiful colors and tile. The umbrellas hanging from the ceiling were nice. The host sat us at 2:30p.m. Our server's first words were that they closed in thirty minutes so we needed to make quick selection. I didn't like that tone or expression. You either open until 3p.m. or you are not open until 3p.m. We felt pressured to hurry. My daughter's eggs came out wrong and had to be sent back. Her sprite didn't arrive until she asked for it a second time. Our server did bring out a fruit plate for us because of the egg mistake. Water is placed on the table but it is warm with no ice. The ambiance was terrific. The bathrooms were clean. We are going to go back again. I hope the people experience is a little better. read more

Do we need one more breakfast place in the Strip? Definitely yes, if they can dish out delicious crepes, omelettes and sandwiches like Cafe Mona. I'm a fan of the Bloomfield location, so I was delighted to find the same great food and wonderful service. This is a great place to go for conversation and good food. An excellent spot for some food...made me glad there were lines at Pamela's and DeLuca's. Seated quickly - no wait on a Saturday morning! Nice place inside. Had a delicious latte. I ordered a breakfast crepe with banana, Nutella and whipped creme...it was quite yummy, but not served warm...which is okay. My son had a chipotle chicken sandwich with avocado, and he enjoy that along with the salad side. (we were amused that the nacho chips that came with it were Doritos). It was great to see David again who's review inspired me to check out this place for lunch while I was attending another Yelp event. The cafe is small but has eclectic display of various artwork and license plates all around. I even found a painting of Minnie Mouse in the ladies room. You can dine either inside or outside. You can also order online for pickup. The place is not air conditioned but with the front wide open could cope with the hot conditions. I was more in the mood for lunch and decided to try out their hamburger with trimmings and a side of french fries. Service is a bit on the slow side which I would imagine may have to do with limited staff. Nevertheless when I did see them everyone made sure my needs were taken care of. I finally got my burger and fries and I really liked the bun it came on. Was more like a pretzel style bun but otherwise very good and the fries were just right-not greasy. I was only a tiny bit disappointed in my ice tea because it looked and tasted like it was watered down. Prices here are very reasonable for lunch and their crepes look like something I definitely want to order should I find my way back to this area again. Located next to DeLuca's diner in the Strip district parking can be problematic but there are pay lots available. Publc transportation is also available. read more

My friend came in feeling stressed and down after a hard week, and our server not only noticed but truly went out of his way to make her day better. After being seated, waited 20 minutes before being acknowledged. Asked for a menu and coffee which was another 20 minutes. Coffee took another 10 minutes to be served and was filled with grinds. Another 20+ minutes passed and informed the owner/manager we were still waiting for our food. It arrived cold. There was no apology or "thank you for your patience". The place was not very crowded. If there was an option for 0 stars. Horrible attitude by management. Terrible experience here this morning. Our order was brought out and given to the table next to us by mistake. These people had just sat down. No big deal. The server made a mistake. The issue was with how it was handled by the staff. We were told our order would be put first in line But we proceeded to sit there for at least 20 minutes watching everybody else in the restaurant who was seated after us have their food. We finally asked what was going on. They kept saying 1 more minute. The food finally made an appearance but by then we were so frustrated and asked them to box it.
