I had a pretty full morning in Pittsburgh's North Side neighborhood because that's where all the interesting modern art museums stand within reasonable proximity of each other. That's good because it was colder than a witch's hoo-ha outside. After spending a lot of time al fresco at Randyland, I think I was breathing icicles by the time I saw this corner cafe, one of a local chain named for what Pittsburgh residents call themselves. It was a welcome sight because I needed something to warm myself before my final walk to the parking garage. Housed in a vintage brick building, it was a cavernous space with tall ceilings and fortunately open tables. I ordered the $4.50 Large 20-oz Cafe au Lait because I needed the extra fuel to get me through the frosty weather (Photo 9). They have Yinz merch for sale and the last of their baked goods. Oh well, I didn't need the extra calories anyway. If you want to know about quality, all I have to say is that a Starbucks opened across the street. I was worried. Starbucks is out of business in fairly short order and its store is available to lease. Yinz did good keeping Yinz Coffee in business. read more

I got the pumpkin pie latte 20oz ($7) and it was made with 4 shots of espresso and pumpkin flavors. The drink was very delightful and had a good pumpkin flavor to it. The barista was very friendly and I absolutely love the Pittsburgh YINZ decor with all the slang. Definitely would come back again! Another Pitt staple. These were all over town and I wanted to compare it to a typical breakfast joint like Dunkin or Starbucks. Honestly, it was quick and delicious breakfast food. Everything tasted fresh. The egg white, cheese and pesto sandwich was soft. There could've been a little more pesto but overall, it was a decent sandwich. I split the danish with my boyfriend and it needed a little more filling. The pastry dough was flaky and had enough icing. Oatmeal Latte hit the spot. It tasted like fall! It warmed me up as it was slightly brisk this morning. The employees were friendly and worked fast. Items are reasonably priced. There's a lot of seating inside to enjoy your meal or work on a laptop. Worth a try if you're in Pittsburgh looking for breakfast. read more

I am a loyal customer at the Yinz coffee shop at Federal St and North Ave on the Northside Pittsburgh. I frequent there several times a week. My last visit was very disturbing. As a 83 y/o senior, I have bladder problems that require immediate use of the men's room. As there were several people ahead of me I asked for the key to the restroom before ordering. I was denied and told to wait my turn. When I pleaded with the employee that it was urgent, I was still denied use of the men's room. As a result, I had to drive home (nearby) to get relief. The 2 girls have seen me there many times but treated me like a stranger. Their tone was somewhat disrespectul and demeaning. I did complain to the owner Ken Zeff via email but got no reply. Guess he's not concerned about how his employees treat seniors. read more

This review comes after two back to back morning visits. First the first visit I went to get ground coffee. I did not see it on shelf and when I ask barista she said she could grind more. After I paid she then claimed that now she couldn't grind anything. Not too upset but the very next day I come back and the store wasn't even open 25 minutes after it was supposed to be open. With Starbucks closing the lack of competition has made this place that used to be my favorite is making me want to get coffee elsewhere. Stopped in to Yinz Coffee for the first time while walking nearby. We got a chai latte and a 724 frozen drink. The chai was one of the better ones I've had, not bitter and just the right amount of sweet. The 724 was delicious! Not overly coffee-flavored or too sweet. Really decent coffee and amazing baristas. I was here a few times while working in the area and they remembered me pretty quickly. It's also really fun to see so much overt Pittsburgher signage. It's definitely good to stop by if you're in the area, but the actual drinks are definitely geared towards more suburban/rural audiences (think Dutch Bros and friends), with pretty sweet syrupy drinks being on prominent display. Their basic cold brew or espressos are sufficient but nothing special. At least they have non-sugary drinks! Sometimes it's a struggle to even find that in middle America. (No hate I just really dislike sugary things since I was a kid, it makes my throat hurt). read more

Just the right amount of peanut butter and chocolate in the you could taste it and still taste the beanie flavor complimenting it. Gal behind the counter was very nice, helpful and oddly chipper for it being 7AM. Layout of the place is very open, bright, and clean. Stopped in on Sunday afternoon and there was no line and only a few people seated inside the cafe. I ordered a 20oz tropical green tea, iced, and a burnt sugar ginger cookie. The tea was unsweetened and super refreshing. The cookie was soft, with a chew, and had visible pieces of ginger. It was amazing. The prices were very fair and the service was very friendly. The space is bright with high ceilings and exposed brick. It would be a nice place to work remotely. read more

We stopped in Yinz briefly and had a great time! We were on our way out of Pittsburgh from the Taylor Swift concert and needed a little pick-me-up for the drive home. I understand Yinz is a localized chain with a few locations around Pittsburgh. I immediately liked the atmosphere inside, which was buzzing with people sitting and working. I really appreciate a coffee shop that encourages you to sit and stay a while. The staff was also really nice and asked us tons of questions about our visit to Pittsburgh, which was very sweet. This Swiftie enjoyed their menu of Taylor Swift themed drinks. I had the Gold Rush Chai, their special chai latte with banana syrup. It was definitely on the sweeter side but I imagine I could have asked them to make it less sweet. I also stole a bite of my partner's bagel and thought it did the trick in a pinch. The barista was very pleasant and answered my questions. This is the second time I have stopped in for a cappuccino and was impressed both times. The interior is comfortable. I dislike "plastic" interiors but the interior here is warm and welcoming. I needed a pick me up after a bad day at work and going to after surgery physical therapy. The associate who made my cappuccino was very friendly and made a great cappuccino. As I have said a million times, a friendly associate is important to my overall experience at any establishment. . I wish I had taken a pic of a counter full of delicious looking edibles: cookies, cakes, many etc. The location is great for anyone going to the hospital, clinic or just going to the refurbished park across the street . First time at the Yinz! It was awesome. It's a great place to meet up for meetings. I had the ice mocha latte which was perfect for the hot weather and not too sweet as some others make them. I stopped by here this past Sunday with my wife for our morning coffee. We decided to head to Yinz coffee as we were looking for a new coffee place to try and I had noticed it while running by a couple of weeks back. It's located right on the corner Federal Street and E North Ave and is easy to get to. The inside of this place is spacious with a ton of seating and then a coffee bar, cooler with drinks and some shelves of merchandise. Then on the coffee bar, they also have a number of different pastries underneath some cloches. On the day that I was there, two people were working and so as soon as I ordered the large oatmilk latte for myself and then a small holiday special latte, peppermint bark and raspberry, for my wife, one of the workers was making them. I then proceeded to check out the pastries and ultimately ended up with a racy raspberry biscotti and a cranberry orange scone to split with my wife. After this it was only a minute or two before the coffees were ready and i was headed out to the car. Once I got inside I was able to try my latte and enjoyed the flavor of the coffee and the very pleasant oat flavor. My wife also enjoyed her holiday latte here. Once we had tried our coffees, we dug into the pastries starting with the scone. It ended up being quite good as it wasn't as dry as most scones and had a nice cranberry flavor with just a hint of orange. Once we had finished off that we split the biscotti. It was definitely on the harder side, even for a biscotti, but it had a nice raspberry flavor which made it worthwhile to eat. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I enjoyed both our coffees and our pastries and I really enjoyed the Pittsburgh theme, especially their sign with all of the Pittsburghese. read more

Super chill, fantastic place to hang out with friends. I've stopped in for a drink and to do some work a few times now, and I'll definitely be coming back. There are plenty of pastries and a variety of drinks to choose from. You can add different sauces and flavors to your drinks too! One of the baristas, Sara, is definitely what gives this place its five stars in my mind. Last time I went, she was working alone and flying about the cooking area getting everyone's orders ready. She made sure the customers knew she would get to them as soon as possible, and she followed through super well for someone working all by herself. When I came today, she didn't have to rush as quickly, but she was still very attentive of each of us as customers and worked to keep the place clean when there wasn't anyone in line. I was pretty excited to check this place out since it was pretty close to where I was staying at. It was the perfect day to walk outside for coffee during the snow. First impression: nice atmosphere. It's quiet and comfortable enough to do some work in here. I would talk about how I felt invisible front of the counter, but really you're here for the coffee. Ordered a hot matcha latte and a hot chocolate (not pictured). Both were so watery it was so hard to even drink the entire cup. No way I spent $5 on each cup just to drink like it's flavored water. I mean how do you mess up a hot chocolate from all of the other things? Confused how this place is a 5 star.
