Old school, no frills diner serving up standard breakfast fare. I liked my Greek omelet (made with gyro, feta, tomatoes). One lady when I walked in said she'd seat me, but she was carrying a bunch of stuff, went off and didn't return (another nice lady behind the counter did help). Prices and the wait time were very reasonable. I'd do breakfast here again based on this visit. read more

What a joy it is to find a regular "old school" diner! Located inside an office building on the second floor (enter from the alley), you step into the past once in the door. The long curved 50's style counter, the booths, it's all here. And, let me say, everything was clean and well maintained. Our waitress (I use that term as it too is 'old school') was fantastic. Went here for breakfast. We ordered the French toast, sausage links, eggs, and coffee. There wasn't anything outstanding about the breakfast menu, pretty much just the standard breakfast staples, however everything is fairly priced and exactly what you would expect. I thought the counter seating was fun and unique, although with such a large counter there are few booths and you may find the counter to be your only option. read more

The food was good, the female staff were all pleasant, but the thin, older gentleman making the food kept coughing on to the food and around the kitchen. I'm honestly surprised this place has such high reviews. I went there for the first time to get a to-go lunch and I'd never go back. I got one of their daily specials which was a chicken quesadilla with rice and I also grabbed a bag of chips. Total was $17. I could barely eat the quesadilla because it was floppy/soggy and falling apart. There was almost no cheese which would've maybe helped keep the ingredients actually stay inside the quesadilla. The rice was so bland I couldn't even finish the bite. The chips were the best part. All obviously overpriced at $17 for a bag of chips, a side of unseasoned rice, and barely a quesadilla. The staff was also yelling at each other the whole time I was waiting. I wouldn't even go back based on that with how stressed it made me just watching. Not worth the price for meh food and mad staff. read more

Great little diner in downtown Pittsburgh--very friendly staff and the food is good. They also offer catering services. We have utilized the catering for regional corporate events, on several occasions, and they do not disappoint. The food is outstanding--VERY top notch. I've included some photos of the catered food--I wish I had more, as they have also catered a regional breakfast and a regional 'Taco Tuesday' that were excellent! Stopped by for lunch after visits with Senators Toomey and Casey staffers. First time eating here and I'm always in the Grant Building! Grabbed a cheeseburger for lunch and it was pretty good. I couldn't finish it so I'll have the other half for a later meal. Really big and flavorful burger. Everything on the menu looked so good I'll have to come back to work my way through it. Tucked away in the corner of 301 Grant St is Nicky's. This place is not accessible from the outside. You actually have to enter the office complex and head towards your right by passing the security and elevators. The place is small, clean, and has fast friendly service. You can sit around a counter or at booths or tables. Prices are extremely reasonable and breakfast is served all day. I was meeting a friend for lunch. Her favorite dish is the grilled cheese with tomato soup. I decided to go with grilled chicken salad with roll. You can pretty much get away with a meal for under $10.00 since it it a diner. I was amazed at the size of my salad and believe me it was indeed difficult to finish. However, since it was light I was able to do it and the chicken tasted fresh along with the greens. My girlfriend loved her sandwich and soup. Nicky's is only open during the workweek so parking can be pricey unless you use public transportation. I did look over the breakfast portion which is served all day. They use jumbo eggs when making any of those dishes. Next time I will have to inquire about egg substitutes. Located in the downtown offices of our US Senators across from Oxford Plaza, Nicky's makes a great place to go if you are dining on a budget. read more

Not really affordable anymore for your average downtown worker. $13 for an egg salad sandwich?! They have lost their minds. Prices have nearly doubled, I'm sticking to the few places that didn't use ~inflation~ as an excuse to screw people out of affordable lunches. read more

best French toast in town and the service is unbeatable

Highly recommend not going. Ordered the breakfast wrap with bacon, it had a single egg, one slice of bacon, on a 6 inch wrap, for five dollars plus two dollars for the cup of coffee. The tomato they sliced and placed on the plate next to it was larger than the wrap itself... no hash brown or home fry. read more

I work in the Grant Building and I have dined in and out from Nicky's. I can positively say that after my experience yesterday, I will never go there to eat again. Not kidding... I witnessed our server take a napkin, dip it into the pitcher of water and wipe her neck. She dipped it back into the pitcher about 3x more, wiping her neck off to cool down. I was APPALLED. I made sure to watch that water pitcher. I couldn't believe she did that, let alone not dump it out. She took an ice tea pitcher to her other table, filled his glass... THEN TOOK THAT WATER PITCHER AND RE-FILLED THE OTHER GUESTS DRINK!!! That particular man was sitting with his back towards that incident, so he had no clue. I don't think anyone else did either. I had the decency to tell the man to please ask for another glass of water. Finally, when we left, we told him exactly what happened and he was disgusted and asked for a manager. read more

Only diner downtown. Love love this place. You can get a great full breakfast for about 8 bucks! The pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee, cheese, everything is so great! The staff has been there for years, and are so nice and willing to take care of you. They will accommodate you. I've been here for both lunch and breakfast. You have to try their pancakes and for lunch get a burger. You won't be sorry. The burgers are plump and juicy. And so filling. The menu is pretty large so there's a ton to choose from. I've worked in the Grant Building for a decade now and have eaten at Nicky's many, many times. They offer an overpriced meal and generally sub-par service. (I think I've seen 2 of their waitresses actually do a good job - the rest are a bunch of hens who do as much as they can to look busy without actually working). After moseying down today for a late lunch, I decided on 2 bags of chips and asked for a glass of ice....my total, for 2 INDIVIDUAL SIZED bags of chips and a cup of ice cubes was $4.78! RIDICULOUS! Come to find out that, in addition to the $2 price tag on each bag of chips, they're also charging me for ICE! I was in there daily - and now, because of the ridiculous charge FOR ICE and the exceptionally overpriced single-serve chip bags, I will never go back!! read more
