BLUF: fast, tasty, cozy. Four of us went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We were afraid it would be pretty crowded because we got there at about 9:35. Luckily there were only a few people ahead of us and this place doesn't really good job of keeping people on a steady flow in and out. They do require that you have all of your party ready to sit before they'll sit you down. We waited perhaps 5 minutes to get a table for four. Among us we ordered the eggs benedict, biscuits and gravy, and their classic breakfast sandwich. Across the board it was all very tasty. The biscuits and gravy I think use a sweet or sausage that I'm used to, but it was still very good. One of the best things about the eggs benedict is that it didn't taste just like the sauce, which is common. Instead you got the full medley of flavors from the egg and all the fixings. We also got their classic Italian bread french toast which is so buttery by itself you really almost don't need syrup. Served by very friendly but very efficient waitresses. The only downside, which this restaurant can't really control, is that parking is a pain and is expensive. But that's just a nature of the way the Strip District has grown. We didn't have any other sandwiches but they look like they would be delicious and this would be a good place for a brunch or lunch as well. read more

I heard about this place thanks to AI and my research into the most quintessential Pittsburgh eats. Kelly O's was listed as a place that served the "pittsburgh salad" which seems to be a run of the mill house salad with fries and mounds of shredded cheese on top. Because most things are better with fries and cheddar cheese on top, logic indicates salad would be one of them. Fortunately, it is located in the vicinity of the strip district which one visiting Pittsburgh would likely visit at one point or another so the few block walk isn't a big ask. There is also parking! It's on the smaller side but we were able to grab a table about an hour before closing during the week. This does look like a place locals go but that is not something I can verify. I will say that it was on DDD which does provide some street cred as far as I am concerned. I already knew I was getting the salad. They have haluski as well which was also on my list of local foods to try so we were able to kill two birds with one stone. The salad was gigantic. It was probably about the size if not slightly smaller than the fucking massive serving bowl of salad my Mom used to put on the dinner table. The fries were delicious, loved the mound of shredded cheese, olives, cucumbers, all that good stuff was fresh and crisp. The greens were spring mix which I am not particularly fond of. It gets too wilty and it grosses me out so it definitely diminished my ability to enjoy the dish. I ate mostly the fries, some olives, and cucumbers. GF ate the haluski because it has some pork in it. She noted that it was 99% cabbage and almost no noodles which was a disappointment. We lucked out with a booth. There's a good variety of traditional diner style food options. It's very Pittsburgh - themed! While visiting the city for college tours, we were looking for breakfast places with ample parking on premise and found this place by happenstance. This place was busy serving breakfast on Saturday and we immediately knew this was the place where we could get in and out quickly. The waitresses were hustling and kitchen was fast. It's a small place with quirky diner ambiance. The orange juice is squeezed freshly and the best I've ever had. I would buy a gallon to go if it was available. Just try it. My husband and teenage son got the power play breakfast. To say the omelette was huge is an understatement. My teenager couldn't even eat the whole thing. My boyfriend loves trying places that are on the food network. We came across this place for a Sunday morning (there are three locations). We had to wait in a line that went out the door at ten am ish. That popular! The wait wasn't bad - the place is hopping! Very diner-style and cozy, with your vintage styled tables and colorful plates. There is an outdoor patio to sit at. The quintessential neighborhood old-school diner experience. It was popping on a Monday at 10 am, so I can't imagine what the weekends would be like. In true Pittsburgh style, the waitresses are very efficient and will call you "hon" (even if you are much older than them). Kelly O's claim to fame is an appearance on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. The Philly cheesesteak omelette was jam packed with gooey cheese, perfectly cooked steak and crisp veggies. The home fries needed salt, but were nicely crispy. This is somewhat difficult to write since I do like Kelly-O's. However, I would certainly not want anyone else to go through this but it all depends on your server. Two of us got there at 8:30AM. The place was pretty full with what I guessed were pre-work diners. Closer to nine, the place was almost empty. It was just us, the booth next to us and a booth on the other side of the room. At around 9:30AM, our server came to the booth and told us that we had to leave. What do you say to that. No one came to the booth next to us and they were there before we got there. WE were told that we were in one of her three booths and that we need to leave now. I turned around, and as I mentioned earlier, the place was 85-90% empty. We still left a tip but to this day, I will not set foot in the place. I will occasionally travel out to the North Hills and patronize that location. Food, atmosphere, SOME of the staff are great but if you sit in grandma's booth your time is short! read more

Kelly O's is my favorite diner and a Pittsburgh classic that's been featured on Guy Fierari's "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives". There's probably going to be a bit of a wait if you go on the weekend, but the line moves fast and it's always worth it. The servers are friendly and efficient, always making sure your coffee cup doesn't run dry or that you have all the condiments you need. Menu-wise, you can't go wrong and they have a good variety of dishes that makes it hard to narrow down your choice! Not to mention, they always have amazing specials too, so make sure you look at what they're featuring that day before making your final decision. No matter what you choose though, I always recommend starting off with their cinnamon roll. It's one of the best I've had, and it's unique in that it's flattened out (like it's been grilled or put on a waffle iron), making it extra moist and delicious. I'm not usually a big "sweets for breakfast" person but my husband and I demolished that cinnamon roll within a matter of minutes. I love breakfast and this menu item had me as soon as I saw roasted red peppers! From the menu: 2 boasted eggs over hot sausage, roasted red peppers, onions, and provolone on an English muffin. You can order toast and shredded potatoes which I recommend. They blend well with the dish. The dish was incredible!!! What a fantastic menu item!!! I can never say enough great things about this diner! The service is incredible - with a line for 4 or 5 groups ahead of us they were able to seat us within 10 minutes and had our food out to us in less than 15 minutes with coffee refills sooner than we could ask! Even with a packed house the service was thoughtful and timely - I saw a busser even get under the table to grab dropped straw wrappers and scraps!!! The food is great every time - I've been bringing my out of town friends here and it never disappoints. I had the philly steak on the original breakfast sandwich and it's as good as it sounds. The servers mesh well and give the diner a community vibe as they work like cogs in a machine. Stopped here on a Sunday morning for some food - we drove past it the night before and decided to venture out for breakfast rather than our usual hotel freebie. They have their own parking lot - which we took advantage of and got lucky with a spot. There was a party waiting in front of us, despite several tables clearing out and the place being busy. We opted to sit at the bar as there were two open stools. Ordered coffee and a water. They were very busy - but I will say the weakest part of the experience was their coffee. It was quite possibly the worst coffee I've had. Tasted like hot water - no flavor at all. And I'm not even a coffee snob - my normal coffee is with dollar store creamer. Anyway - ordered the custom omelette with sausage and cheese, as well as the hashbrowns. This was very good - good amount of ingredients and plenty of eggs to it. We also shared a world famous grilled cinnamon bun which - if it isn't world famous, it is in my book. Wow. So simple but so good. Waitresses each attended Toni's with being at the bar - very friendly and attentive. Sound was pretty standard for a busy breakfast spot. Kelly O's over Pamelas. I have not been able to find a good diner and finally came across Kelly O's. Pancakes are perfectly fluffy and eggs are perfect. Coffee is good and prices are perfect. The waitresses are nice and friendly and I hope to be a regular for them! Food came out super fast (which was good because I was starving). The inside was clean and bright.
