I apologize for not taking pictures. The food smelled so good, I had to dive right in. Speaking of dive, yes if looks like a dive but don't shy away from the exterior or you will miss out on a fantastic breakfast! Pancakes, I had regular, my husband blueberry. He kept screaming, these are blueberry pancakes. See how the blueberries are cooked into the pancakes . He's annoyed whenever blueberries (or any fruit/chip/nut) is not mixed into the batter. The pancakes were thick yet fluffy. The bacon, order it anyway you like, I absolutely loved that. I do not like CRISPY bacon. Make sure to get the home fries. Let me tell you, people rarely give you yellow/orange peppers. It's always green, BORING! Don's peppers were yellow and orange, it adds another flavor profile. They are cash only. You can call ahead. But if you can, dine in! for everything, especially the decor.

Don's Diner is definitely one of Pittsburgh's most hidden gems. Too me at least it was in the middle of no where. The service was fast and staff super friendly. I had eggs and bacon on a english muffin with home fries. It was totally delicious, And definitely the best diner anywhere around. My wife has gone here and brought food out for us several times, But this was the first time I was there. I was super impressed with the service and the high quality of the food. I would say it is worth the trip from anywhere you are, As the food is that good. I will definitely be a regular here as you won't be able to keep me away. By far the best diner anywhere around hands down.

Dons diner I feel the need to update my review because just when I thought it couldn't any better it's beyond 5 stars it's a million stars This little diner is worth a trip from anywhere yup I mean it ANYWHERE as in anyplace on the planet ... So I moved to Pittsburgh almost 2 years ago best decision Pittsburgh truly is a great city ...ok anyway Back to Don's hands down best breakfast or lunch Best pancakes blueberry is my favorite Best grilled cheese Best hash browns Yum homemade soups my favorite is tomato basil or pickle don't ask questions if it's on the menu just get it Eggs bacon omelettes homefries fries Sammie's as in the best egg Sammie's Don does all the cooking right there on the grill in front of you Marcie and Angel do everything else There are 5 booths and counter seating for 8 It's a cash only prices so reasonable you will think it's 1985 fear not that 10 bucks in your pocket will get you a full fresh home cooked meal served by the sweetest gals. I don't know how they do it their coffee is the best too This isn't my first yelp review but it might be the last I have no need to ever eat anyplace else Go find Don's it's under the bridge

When you drive to this place and you see it from the outside, you may not want to get out of your car. However, do yourself a favor and go inside. It's a really a nice breakfast place. The food is is very good - especially their thick bacon. Don't pass on the thick base bacon. The prices are good and the people are very friendly it's just an overall great experience. Definitely worth a visit when you are in Pittsburgh

This little diner is located between 3 bridges one of which is a railroad bridge. Use GPS when getting here since Chateau St is closed partially due to construction. There is side parking near the diner. The place is very small. There was no one at the counter but I managed to snag one of the last remaining booths. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I decided to opt for breakfast. I went with a 3 egg omelet and had my choice of cheese. Prices are extremely reasonable but most everything I was told is ala carte. This includes lunch sandwiches. She said that if I want 2 eggs then I would save $.75. I ordered a side of rye toast for $.50 to go with it. They served a very good coffee while I watched them prepare my omelette. I got it in about less than 10 minutes and liked the fact that they put vegetables on top of the omelette as well as inside. It was indeed very good. The waitress came around continually to make sure my coffee was always full. After I finished I was waiting around for my check. I finally had to ask an employee for it. It was then that I learned you pay directly at the register. I knew this place was cash only but I thought it would be a little confusing for me to figure out a tip if I don't know what my total bill is. BTW coffee is only $1.00 and has unlimited refills. Hot tea is also available. They serve juices as well but no free refills on that. So I went to the register and was thrilled to learn my check was just under $7.00! Not bad for a 3 egg omelet and rye toast. I found coming mid morning gave me the opportunity to choose between breakfast and lunch. Again as I noted, everything is ala carte so if you want a lunch sandwich be prepared to pay extra for any sides. Nice little diner at affordable prices. Take out service is available since I saw the lady at the register had a bag for another customer.

Hot sausage, egg, and cheese on Italian toast with home fries

First of all, sit at the bar and watch the master work. How did I know it was Don? Well, the waitress yelled, "Hey Don! Are you going to come out and cook for these people or what?!" As she started to toast the bread and threw my home fries and my husband's hash browns on the flat top. Second of all, order the coffee. No, there isn't anything special about it, but it is full bodied and just plain good. On to the food... I ordered the hot sausage/egg/cheese on Italian toast with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. The toast was perfectly thick and crunchy, the sausage was hot and tasty, the eggs were fluffy, and most importantly the cheese was gooey and melty (I despise when I order a breakfast sandwich and the cheese isn't melted, come on man!). The home fries were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. My husband ordered two eggs over easy, sausage links, hash browns, and rye toast. I can't speak for anything he had except the hash browns which were awesome. Crispy and crunchy almost like a French fry on the outside and soft in the middle. After sitting by the flat top, I've already eyed up what I'll be ordering on my next few stops: a blueberry pancake, the thick cut bacon, hash browns of my own, eggs over easy, a cheese burger, and the whole left side of the menu. 5 stars? Yes, because it's the best diner I've encountered in Pittsburgh to date. Yes, because it is clean (even the condiment caps were cleaned!). Yes, because the service was friendly. Yes, because I didn't smell like I was just sitting in a diner for 45 minutes. Yes, because our tab was $14. And yes, because the food is delicious! Don's, the best kept secret in Pittsburgh, FTW!

This was my first visit to Pittsburgh and we wanted to find a great breakfast spot before we started our mission work for the day. We searched yelp and read lots of reviews and ended up with a decision to head to Don's and it was the best decision. We laughed at the breakfast sandwich special called "Wet Judy," but it was no joke. I got the version with thick cut bacon and it was heavenly. The ladies serving us were awesome. They checked on us often and even told us the story of the "Wet Judy." I'll be back in the morning!!!

Somewhat off of the beaten path, don's diner is a stand alone restaurant with not the greatest curb appeal but the food was AMAZING. It's very quaint with only 5ish booths and some bar seating. They seemed to get a lot of take out orders while we were there but service was still great. Definitely do not recommend going if you are in any kind of rush because all food is made by Don, but that's what makes it so great. True diner feel as you can watch your food get cooked right behind the counter. I had the hot sausage sandwich on Texas toast and it has definitely earned a spot in my top 3! Will definitely be going back!!

It was a typical retro-vintage stop inside, and I was forewarned by the veteran waitress they were open only for the next half-hour. I reassured her I was not planning to stay long. It must've been the end of a long shift for her because she was grumbling to the busboy about the other waitress who decided to leave early. This other woman, clearly the 'Kiss Mah Grits' type, alienated me by calling me Mr. Miyagi and cackling about it to the rest of the staff. I thought I might be expected to recite lines from "The Karate Kid". Instead I ordered the $11.25 Grilled Meatloaf Melt, which came with quite a slice covered in fried onions and melted Swiss cheese barely held together by the toasted rye bread. It was on the greasy side, and the fries were dried out (Photo 10). What would Mr. Miyagi say? I heard about this place thanks to AI and my research into the most quintessential Pittsburgh eats…read more Kelly O's was listed as a place that served the "pittsburgh salad" which seems to be a run of the mill house salad with fries and mounds of shredded cheese on top. Because most things are better with fries and cheddar cheese on top, logic indicates salad would be one of them. Fortunately, it is located in the vicinity of the strip district which one visiting Pittsburgh would likely visit at one point or another so the few block walk isn't a big ask. There is also parking! It's on the smaller side but we were able to grab a table about an hour before closing during the week. This does look like a place locals go but that is not something I can verify. I will say that it was on DDD which does provide some street cred as far as I am concerned. I already knew I was getting the salad. They have haluski as well which was also on my list of local foods to try so we were able to kill two birds with one stone. The salad was gigantic. It was probably about the size if not slightly smaller than the fucking massive serving bowl of salad my Mom used to put on the dinner table. The fries were delicious, loved the mound of shredded cheese, olives, cucumbers, all that good stuff was fresh and crisp. The greens were spring mix which I am not particularly fond of. It gets too wilty and it grosses me out so it definitely diminished my ability to enjoy the dish. I ate mostly the fries, some olives, and cucumbers. GF ate the haluski because it has some pork in it. She noted that it was 99% cabbage and almost no noodles which was a disappointment. Service was really good, shit came out quick and our server literally gave me a to go iced tea as we were getting the check it was fucking adorable.
